In case you missed it today, 12 August is also known as World Elephant day.

Since 2011, this day has been set aside by many around the world to “spread awareness, share knowledge and provide solutions for better care and management of both captive and wild elephants”.

The world Elephant Day website explains that the animals face numerous challenges that include poaching, loss of their habitats, exploitation and abuse.

The Wildlife Conservation Society points out that ivory trafficking and poaching kill 35,000 African elephants every year.

"Ivory and rhino horn, derived from the illegal killing of elephants and rhinos in Africa and Asia, are typically trafficked by transnational organized crime syndicates across the world,” said Christian Samper, president and CEO of the WCS.

Throughout many today people, including celebrities, have taken to social media in efforts to raise awareness about the plight of some of their favourite and most endangered animals.

This guy just wants to say "hey".

They are known to be playful creatures.

Ricky Gervais is a well-known animal activist:

Ian Somerhalder is an avid animal lover and uses his foundation to fight for animals rights, includes those for elephants.

Look at how cute this guy is with his buddies!

And we could never forget this epic elephant pool party:

It’s a girl! Billy Joel and his wife Alexis Roderick have welcome their first child together today.

Alexis gave birth to the couple’s first daughter Della Rose on Wednesday in New York. This is the first child for the pair.

Alexis, 33, is an accomplished equestrian who married Billy, 66, last month at Billy’s Long Island estate.

At their annual Independence Day party last month the two surprised their guests and exchanged wedding vows. The couple enjoyed their nuptials while surrounded by friends and family.

In April the couple announced that Alexis was pregnant, People magazine confirmed the news and that it was to be another girl for the singer.

“Billy Joel and his girlfriend, Alexis Roderick, are expecting their first child this summer. The couple, together since 2009, opted to keep any further details of her pregnancy under wraps until their new addition makes an official debut.”

A rep for Billy said that he is “thrilled to become a dad again,” with the birth of little Della Rose.

Billy is already father to singer-songwriter Alexa Ray, 29, from his previous marriage to Christie Brinkley.

When the pair married in July Christine, 61,  shared a supportive message on social media to congratulate them:

“Congratulations to the glowing bride and groom. And to my daughter Alexa, who has a wonderful friend in Alexis! Wishing the growing family every happiness!”

Congratulations to the happy family on their new baby!

On Tuesday a court in New York ordered that actress Kelly Rutherford, 46, hand over her two children to her ex-husband who is based in Monaco.

Now, one day later, the Gossip Girl star has declared the court ruling as “shocking, illegal, and abusive.”

Kelly and her ex-husband Daniel Giersch have been involved in a legal disoute surrounding the custody of their two children, Hermes, 9, and Helena, 6, for over 4 years. The ruling on Tuesday insisted the pair be returned to Monaco because their U.S summer holiday has now finished.

In a statement released to BuzzFeed News, Kelly has slammed the judge for “violating” the rights of her children and “effectively arresting them.”

A lawyer for Daniel, 41, has said they were “pleased that the American judicial system has prevailed.”

Kelly meanwhile has said:

“The judge did not listen to one word I said and instead demanded that the children immediately be taken from my custody, and handed over to the lawyers for delivery to an airport.”

She believes it was a “cruel” thing to happen to any child.

The custody issues between the two began in 2008 when Daniel, a German citizen faced issues with his visa. In 2012 a judge in California ordered that he and the two children move back to Europe until his visa issues had been resolved.

Kelly has said in her statement that she “will continue to fight for my children, and one day I will land in the courtroom of a decent judge.”

Just in time for the end of summer (sorry, someone had to say it), this new take on the ince-cream cone just blew everyone away.

This is called a puffle cone it will have you craving ice cream treats all day long. Apologies for anyone avoiding sugar-based snacks, but this was too good not to share.

It looks like bubble wrap, but it acts like a wafer cone. The absolute geniuses as Cauldron Ice Cream developed this creation for their menu just three weeks ago, and it has made their Instagram account a tastier place ever since.

Without a doubt this is one to add to your food bucket list. One of the shop’s 26-year old partners told Cosmopolitan the cone is based on an egg waffle.

The egg waffle is a popular street snack from Hong Kong, it is made using an egg-based sweet tasting batter.

Another bonus to these tasty confections is that you get to pair them with some of the best ice cream flavours you can imagine. Cauldron does red velvet cake flavour with actual red velvet cake, no impersonations allowed.

Our Red Velvet is always on point. Say NO to Red Velvet paste!! Real Red Velvet cake in your ice cream or nothing! #creamteam

There is also the fact that puffle is just a fun word to say. The humble 99 may be facing some stuff competition with these delicious frozen treats now in existence.

Puffle cones are the kind of food that Instagram users dream about featuring on their accounts.

The price of fame often means that some of our favourite celebrities face less than pleasant attention from many anonymous sources online.

Grammy winner Sam Smith however, is not letting his bullies get away with their taunts.

The critically acclaimed singer has discussed openly his failed relationships and his struggles with his sexuality. Earlier today he took a screen shot of an anti-Sam Smith Instagram account and shared it with his followers.

The idea being to draw attention to how prevalent homophobia is and how he has learned to not let it bother him.

He tweeted a link to the account, which had the username Gay Sam Smith. The account had posted countless gay slurs and one very offensive poem.

The 23-year old explained:

"This genuinely doesn't offend me, coz I'm way too thick skinned when it comes to this kind of sh**. BUT I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobia is still SO PRESENT in our society!!"

Previously Sam has said he finds it easier to deal with anti-gay slurs than he did with comments on his weight in the past.

He told Australia’s 60 Minutes: “"I think just because I've accepted that, if someone calls me a f—-t, it's like, I am gay and I'm proud to be gay so there's no issues there. If something calls you fat, that's something I want to change."

Many of his fans took to social media to praise him for how he handled the online abuse and casting light on the homophobia many still deal with on a daily basis.

The dreaded laundry day is about to get an awful lot easier for some of us.

ZipJet, a laundry on-demand service, has launched in Dublin as of today. So now there’s a solution for anyone who is either too lazy to do their laundry (looking at your students) or who just hate that particular chore.

The app was previously launched in London and Berlin. They offer a pick-up and delivery service of laundry and dry-cleaning and aim to return your fresh clothes in 24 hours.

The start-up was funded by Rocket Internet, the same people responsible for Groupon. The idea behind the service is pretty simple. Dry cleaning and laundrettes around the city can sign up with ZipJet and you can book your laundry in either using their app or on their website.

Florian Faerber and Lorenzo Franzi, founders of the company claim that they have washed 30,000 shirts in London and Berlin since they initially launched the project.

Silicon Republic reports a spokesperson for ZipJet as saying:

“We’re confident the Dublin market will view ZipJet with the same enthusiasm as our customers in Berlin and London.”

They currently have a staff of five in their Dublin office with four full-time drivers, depending on the success of the project we imaging they may look into expanding.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie the company explained why they chose Dublin to be their next location:

“Dublin is a very tech-friendly city – lots of urban professionals with busy schedules, working until 7, 8, 9 o’clock at night with little or no time to be doing laundry.”

Sound familiar? We feel like this could be a winner.

For Pippa O’Connor, whose mother Louise died unexpectedly last October, one of her favourite memories is going into Dublin city centre from their home in Kildare for a stroll and a look around the shops together.

“Soaking up that atmosphere and surrounding yourself with all the activity that the city brings was always a highlight for me,” she explains from a plush suite at the Westbury hotel off Grafton Street, where she is in conversation with SHEmazing! for the launch of the Dublin Fashion Festival.

“Dublin holds its own versus the likes of New York, London, Milan or Paris,” she adds.

“I’ve travelled to lots of interesting places as a model – I’ve done the whole back-packing around south-east Asia in my early 20s thing – I’ve seen different places and how men and women dress differently in different parts of the world.

"And Dublin is as good as it gets when it comes to fashion.”

It’s high praise indeed from a woman whose styling knowledge and skills are currently in hot demand: her Pippa’s Fashion Factory events regularly attract hundreds of women, all eager to lap up the 30-year-old’s insider knowledge, top tips and expertise.

That and she scooped the Most Stylist title at this year's VIP Style Awards.

Not that such know-how necessarily came easily: Ms O’Connor says she made her fair share of fashion mishaps over the years.

“I’ve been modelling for more than a decade,” she explains, “so there are plenty of dire photographs of me knocking around online.

“In fact, whatever you do, don’t Google ‘Pippa O’Connor 2005’ or you’ll be met with some fairly horrific sights,” she laughs. “I’ve made all the usual errors: too short, too shiny, too much tan, too much makeup, bad hair extensions – the works.”

In fact, and now sporting sexy shoulder-length blonde waves, she reckons extensions are the average young Irish woman’s worst faux pas.

“I don’t mind hair extensions per say for volume or fullness or whatever,” she explains, “but that very OTT look, with mermaid curls down to your bum? No thanks – it’s a very dated look if nothing else."

Otherwise she reckons that finding clothes that fit well, and dressing for your own body shape goes a long way.

“If your bra doesn’t fit – that knocks off the rest of the outfit. So get your boobs measured!"

Ladies!! When you don't wanna wash your hair and it's needs a lift ….try this…

The Dublin Fashion Festival, of which Pippa is the face of for 2015, is now in its sixth year.

Taking place from Monday September 7 until Sunday September 13, it involves more than 200 retailers, restaurants, bars and hotels – all of which are coming together to create one of the city centre’s liveliest events.

Previous famous faces to front the festival include Laura Whitmore, Angela Scanlon and Amanda Byram.

“I remember seeing Laura and Angela getting involved in the Dublin Fashion Festival in previous years and thinking ‘oh I’d love to do that some day,’ so I’m genuinely ecstatic to be on board,” she explains.

“The shops in Dublin are brilliant – I was trying to source a piece recently in London and in the end I found it on my doorstep in Dublin. It was here all along! But that just proves that although it’s a small city – it packs a lot of fashion punch.

“We were launching the Fashion Festival earlier today around the Castle Market area and there is such a wealth of hidden-gem shops there. George’s Street Arcade is brilliant – one of the DFF’s events is a show there which I just can’t wait to see.”

Pippa recently returned from a trip away to California with her husband, TV presenter Brian Ormond, and toddler son Ollie. And she admits to being really taken with the area.

“We were in Calabasas – where all the Kardashians and Jenners live – and wow, is it amazing!” she says. “I would definitely love to live over there at some point, but I’d have to move for the right gig or opportunity.

"I won’t just be booking myself on the next flight without a firm poa.”

And why would she – her Fashion Factory events continue to go from strength to strength, while her hugely popular website, Pippa.ie, attracts hoards of women looking for styling and beauty advice.

This summer, she also released her first product – Pippa’s Palette – a massively successful collection of nude eyeshadows.

She's hopeful though that bigger and better is still to come.

“I have some very specific projects in the pipelines – it’s all within fashion – and I can’t wait to pursue it all. And my attitude is, ‘if you don’t try you don’t know’. If I don’t give these things a go, someone else will."

Indeed, Pippa hints that she’s already turned her hand to designing. “Yes, I sketch out ideas for clothing and accessories – my mind has worked like that for years.

"I’m always thinking of something new, or a new look or a new way of presenting a current trend.

"It’s a passion of mine definitely.”

In the meantime, she’ll be kept busy with the Dublin Fashion Festival – as part of the event she'll also present a live fashion show on Friday September 11 – not to mention absorbing the sights and sounds of her favourite city.

“I feel like Dublin’s come back into it’s own after the recession," Pippa states. "There’s a bit of bounce back now; it’s beginning to feel like its old self again.

“Just hopefully with fewer hair extensions!” she adds with a smile.

She made waves when she was announced as one of the new Victoria's Secret models in April of this year and now Russian beauty Kate Grigorieva has wed her sweetheart Alexander in a romantic ceremony in St. Peterberg, Russia.

The bride wore a dress from Zac Posen's bridal line in David's Bridal shop, and it did not disappoint. The dress was a fitted lace trumpet style and featured a sheer neckline and full length sleeves. The bride teamed her dress with a cathedral length lace veil.

Her honey blonde hair was styled into a romantic low bun with her fringe swept to the side… perfection.

We feel Kate's bridesmaids also have to get a mention too, as they all looked stunning in mixture of purple dresses.

Before the model rose to fame with Victoria's Secret she was previously a contestant on Russia's Next Top Model – where she came second – and also took part in Miss Russia 2012.

We wish all the best for the happy couple!

For anyone who isn't aware of what a Fitbit is, it's a heart-monitoring device you wear around you wrist while you exercise so you can track if you are losing weight and burning calories.

But it turns out, it can be used for more than just hitting the gym. One woman decided to wear it while having sex with her partner so track her heart rate.

This brave soul shared the information about her 8 minute session on Imgur and it has since gone viral with many people saying they are going to try the same thing.

The gadget recorded the peaks and drops of different positions and climax during sex. An average of 109 beats per minute were recorded and that figure is within the range for burning fat.

The woman who posted the graph described herself as a 'fit lady' and said she has a resting heart rate of 60bpm and that her heartrate is slower when she is at the gym than shown in this graph.

The graph has been viewed over 1.7 million times and people have began seriously analysing it in the comments section below.

“Everyone focuses on the time,” noveltysin wrote on Reddit. “I lose track of it. Time stops. I'm happy.”

Cruise ships are getting more and more luxurious as the years roll on. Who hasn’t been tempted to hop aboard a giant floating hotel bound for the Caribbean at least once?

Well, people who suffer from sea sickness are probably not so inclined to book their tickets when pay day arrives. There’s one demographic that cruise ships have shunned up to now.

For some, the less than stable nature of the ocean and all of its wild glory can be just too tricky to stomach for weeks at a time.

However, now a genius have come up with the perfect way to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time at sea, without any of the nausea.

The Sun Cruise Hotel is a cruise shop that will never cause motion sickness. Why? How?

Well, rather than being located in the sea, it actually resides on a massive cliff overlooking the sea instead. Amazing.

Aside from the fact that is staying firmly on dry land, the hotel, is otherwise a precise replica of any other luxury cruise ship. There’s a revolving sky lounge, karaoke, a sea water pool and a volleyball court.

They also play wave sounds and birds’ calls over loudspeakers on the ship so it feels like you are out in the ocean.

So, next time you’re in Korea you know where to find the most unique of cruise experiences.

If there’s one thing we know about crash-diets it is that they generally don’t work. Or else they work for a week and then you’re back to square one.

That is just no good.

There are an awful lot of misconceptions about losing body fat and how best to go about it in a healthy way. If you want to strip away some excess body fat and make sure it stays away for good, then we found some useful tips and easy tricks for you.

Ditch the starchy carbs

Carbs seem to have been at centre of much controversy for years now. While there’s no doubt that carbs are important, it is also good to know what type of carbs you need. Chose whole grains or sweet potatoes and try swapping things like pasta for vegetable based options.

Sleep more

Our new favourite method of ditching the muffin top; naps! Getting the right amount of sleep every night means you won’t be overly fatigued, which can lead to over eating and keep your metabolism unbalanced.

Eat more fibre

Women’s Health have pointed out a study which showed that fibre can increase your fat brunign potential by up to 30 per cent. So start including fruits, veggies and things like bran cereal in your diet.

Stay hydrated

The University of Utah conducted a study which found dehydration can stop you from burning up to 2 per cent less calories than those who stayed hydrated throughout the day. This is because your body needs water to carry out its chemical reactions.

Always eat breakfast

A balanced breakfast will get your metabolism off to a good start so it’s important you eat in the morning, apparently the ideal would be an hour after waking up.

Eat plenty of protein

Especially if you’re working out. Protein is invaluable in helping your muscles repair themselves so you need to ensure you’re getting enough. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says active women should consume 0.5 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.
