Many of us remember the iconic nightclub Dandelion from back in the day. Located directly beside St Stephen's Green shopping centre, it was at the forefront of Irish nightlife until it closed a few years ago.

Located where the old club used to be is a new, multifunctional space known as The Well, and we can't rave about it enough. The area is massive, and decked out with slick interiors and stunning art pieces on the walls.

Half of the room is decorated as a bar area with numerous seating options and hanging plants, but at night it turns into a chic bar with DJs banging out disco, funk and hip-hop tunes on the decks.

It's essentially a cafe-bar, restaurant, event space, workspace and coffee shop all rolled into one huge venue. The Well's aesthetic is described as a "premium version of an industrial-style bar". Ooh, yes please.

The Well's interior features furniture made from recycled and refurbished materials, which is in line with the venue's pledge to use sustainable materials and ethically produced decor. Snaps for being woke.

The second half of the space has been taken over by Dublin Pizza Company as a restaurant, and their oven-cooked grub is absolutely legendary.

Michael Ryan, founder of Dublin Pizza Company, has created DPC at The Well to serve an extended version of their award-winning menu, featuring wood-fired pizzas along with salads and starters from lunchtime until late.

The café-bar offers al all-day to late-night location for entrepreneurs, innovators and creative thinkers can relax, meet clients or celebrate with your team. Co-working spaces with hot desks and power hubs are available.

It's an ideal space if you're looking to get some work done with high-quality barista coffee to keep you going, with cocktails as a reward for afterwards.

The Fajazzle, the Realness and the Spritz Please are just some of the cocktail options, and have earned them a shedload of fans already.

Beer lovers can rejoice over the choices, with some of the best of Irish and international craft beers available including the Franciscan Well range (Rebel Red, Chieftain IPA, Shandon Stout and Archway.)

These Hands coffee shop offers top quality takeaway coffee, and a range of healthy options such as Old MacDonnell’s Farm yoghurts, salads and soft cheeses, plus sweet treats for those of us having another cheat day.

The coffee shop is open daily from 7am until 7pm. The café-bar’s carefully curated wine list is also noteworthy, having been selected by James Brookes, formerly of Guilbaud’s and Glovers Alley.

The Well's gorgeous cocktail menu features quirky ingredients from Irish Distillers, Gut Instinct Kombucha, Glitterbugs Edible Glitter and Celtic Whiskey. We're so sold.

From September when the basement opens, the venue can provide an event environment with a late bar and performance space available for corporate hire.

They've hosted a fast fashion workshop at The Well alongside food blogger Fifi Heather, for example. We can't wait to see some of the great things coming to the eclectic space, they're clearly supportive of Irish brands and businesses.

'Live at The Well' will feature independent events during the week and is set to host upcoming and innovative music promotions at the weekends. See you there? Check out their website here for more info.

Boots Ireland have today launched their Night Walks for Night Nurses campaign, encouraging people to join fundraising Night Walks in either Phoenix Park, Dublin (16 August) or  Blackrock Castle (Carpark), Cork (23 August).

Tickets to join the 5km walk cost €15 for an adult, and under 16s go free. Walks start at 7.30pm in Dublin and 7.00 pm in Cork. Each adult ticket comes with a free t-shirt.

Alongside the walks, Honour Tags are on sale in Boots stores nationwide for €2. Customers can purchase a tag in honour of someone who has survived or passed away from cancer. One metre will be walked in honour of that person and the tags are brought to respective walks. The front of the tag allows for the name of the individual with space on the back for a personal message.

Funds raised will go towards the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing service, which provides end of life care for cancer patients in their own home, allowing them to pass away at home surrounded by family and loved ones as well as giving much needed respite for the family caring for them.

The Night Nurse service has run for over 30 years and operates in every county in Ireland. The service has made a huge contribution to cancer support, providing over 7,400 nights of care in 2018 alone, to 1,861 patients. There are 180 Night Nurses in operation around Ireland, providing up to 10 nights of care for cancer patients in their own home, during the last days of their life. The service is provided completely free of charge.

Ambassador Teresa Mannion said: “Having faced cancer myself, I saw the impact it has not only on those with a diagnosis, but on their loved ones also. Patients, and those supporting them, are exhausted both physically and mentally and the Irish Cancer Society’s Night Nurses play such a critical caring role. Night Nurses allow everyone to sleep, assured that they are in the best hands, and it’s wonderful to see Boots step up and host fundraisers such as these.”

Boots MD Bernadette Lavery said: “We were thrilled to see over 600 people attend the walks last year, raising more than €50,000 for this great service. Since partnering with the Irish Cancer Society back in 2012 we have raised over €1.4 million or over 4,000 nights for this much-needed service, and we are incredibly proud of Boots’ ongoing commitment to supporting those living with cancer. We’ve set ourselves a target to raise more than ever before this year, so would love to see more participants at our walks, which are truly inspirational and uplifting events.”

Speaking at the launch of the Night Walks campaign, Averil Power, Chief Executive, Irish Cancer Society, said: “The Night Nursing service allows cancer patients to remain in their own home during their last days. The Night Nurses are there through the night, keeping the patient comfortable, while also supporting family members during a very difficult time. As the service is almost entirely donation-funded, we rely on the support of Boots staff and customers to ensure we can be there for more families in need of this crucial care.”

Are you ever sitting in your favourite Dublin pub or city centre cocktail bar, pondering the fact that nothing can quite live up to The Leaky Cauldron or The Three Broomsticks? Us too.

Fantasy franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings have spawned an array of merchandise and theme parks, and inspired a wealth of alcohol-based pop-ups.

It's been confirmed that the good people of Earth crave powerful potions and brilliant brews rather than your typical pint or mojito. We want MAGICAL elixirs.

Image: The Cauldron

Luckily, The Cauldron have announced the expansion of The Magical Experience into Ireland following their hugely successful pop-ups in London and New York.

Whether you're a muggle, a witch or a wizard; You're going to want to visit The Liquor Rooms in Dublin at 5 Wellington Quay sometime over the next three months. Seriously.

The Cauldron's Magical Experience is a one hour and 45 minute immersive class, where you wield a working magic wand and use molecular mixology to brew drinkable elixirs.

You'll receive a dashing robe to wear, and a magic wand of course. Then you'll be led to an interactive work station where you can learn spell-casting 101 by pouring a drink of beer, a cocktail or a mocktail.

The Cauldron work with Wicklow Wolf, the Irish craft brewery from Bray, to create Wicked Wolf; a limited edition collaboration beer made exclusively for The Cauldron of Dublin. The floral IPA has some magical ingredients- Jasmine, Green Tea, Malted Irish Barley and Wicklow water.

The Magical Experience will then invite you to brew two of their molecular potions that change colour, bubble and even smoke. We're sold. The three-month pop-up in The Liquor Rooms is set to be a sell-out, at just €29,99 per magical being off-peak and €34.99 during peak times.

The experience is almost entirely self-guided, but don't worry about doing a Séamus Finnigan on it and blowing up the place. A potions master is on hand to make sure you don't poison yourself, or anyone else. Alcohol-free, gluten-free and vegan options are all available too. We do adore dietary inclusivity.

It's hard to believe that The Cauldron first began as a Crowdfunding project in 2017. Co-founder Matthew Cortland, a George Mitchell Scholar and former reading teacher, was living in Dublin, simultaneously working at a tech startup, and finishing his master’s degree in Creative Digital Media at DIT.

Cortland later moved to London to set up the business and is bringing the project home.

“This concept has such strong roots in Irish Design and individuals in Dublin– from our illustrator to our wand maker to our key advisors.  We even shot our first video in The Gravediggers in Glasnevin, a location that was a major source of inspiration for the interior design vision for The Cauldron."

Image: The Cauldron

"Without the assistance and contribution from these people, I’m not sure that we would have ever gotten to this point," Cortland added. “I’m incredibly grateful." So are we Matthew, so are we.

Co-founder David Duckworth, a molecular cocktail and experience designer, compares The Cauldron’s concept to Irish folklore.

“Celtic folklore and mythology ties into the fantastical experience we are bringing to Dublin. The idea that magic is real and just inaccessible to ordinary people or that the veil to the other realm is just beyond reach is a concept that resonates with those who love fantasy and mythology.

"Our goal is to use science, the magic of our world, to make that dream real," David quipped.

Image: The Cauldron

If you want your chance to experience The Cauldron while it's in Dublin, head to underground speakeasy on the quays; The Liquor Rooms,

Off-peak seatings are from Monday to Thursday all day, and Friday from 11am-4:45pm. Peak seatings are Friday nights, and weekends.

The experience is over 18s only, and tickets must be booked in advance to attend. A limited food menu is also available on site, if your magical antics make you peckish.

Continuing on from the massive success of Wild Youth’s EP ‘The Last Goodbye, which debuted at #5 in the Irish Albums Charts, the Dublin pop-rock superstars went on to sell-out their first ever headline show in The Olympia Theatre, support The Script in London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall and perform to a packed-out house in London’s OMEARA, run by Mumford & Sons member Ben Lovett.

Music festivals are absolutely infamous for producing mass amount of waste, especially single-use plastic. This Dublin festival hopes to change the sustainability of their event, and we love it.

Beatyard takes place on August 3 and 4 this summer in Dun Laoghaire, with a stellar musical line-up, delicious food stalls, boat parties, pop-up fashion shops as well as games and entertainment.

Not to mention some class afterparties in The Lighthouse and Wigwam, if you have a weekend ticket. The party never stops during this August weekend, and if the sun decides to shine it's set to be stunning.

The acts scheduled to play on Saturday and Sunday include Groove Armada, Jungle, Chvrches, Soulé, Erica Cody, SG Lewis, Fleetmac Wood, Mount Kimbie, Todd Terje, Grandmaster Flash and Icarus.

Boat parties are also taking place on both days for €15 a ticket (if you have a Beatyard pass) and are hosted by Gxrl Cøde, District Magazine, The Midnight Disco and Yachty by Nature.

Eatyard will of course be making an appearance, with Teddy's ice-cream, The Vegan Queen, Lala Putine, Pieman, Hells BBQ, Zero Zero Pizza, Sweet Churro, Big Blue Bus, Handsome Burger, 3FE, Taco Truck, Crepe Box, Maki, Kono Pizza, Doghouse Dogs and Buttercream Dream.

The bar closes at 10pm each day, and gates open at 12pm. Kids under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The tickets are just €59 for one day, of €99 for the whole weekend.

The festival has a new scheme for garnering help to clean-up the litter from the sesh, and it's a decent deal if we do say so ourselves.

If you volunteer and help them sort waste for just one hour, you’ll get a free ticket to the festival that day. It sounds too good to be true, honestly, but we can vouch for the legitimacy.

According to the organisers; “The main issue we have had with waste over the years was not cleaning it up, but organising the waste into the correct containers, and bags, so that nothing gets spoiled, and the waste we put away can be efficiently recycled or wasted in the correct format.”

A post shared by Beatyard (@beatyard) on

All you have to do is fill in your contact info, and then Beatyard will mail you the meeting point and information three weeks before the festival. You'll be put into a team with a specific but simple job for one hour.

What's in it for you? A free Sunday ticket or a ticket for the festival for 2020 if you’re there on Monday. They've also continued their 'Bin It To Win It' campaign, which allows you to score a free pint.

Collect a bin bag from any of the bars, fill it with plastic pint glasses, bring it back to the designated recycling point and BOOM: Free pint. It couldn't be simpler.

As if this wasn't incredible enough, the festival is also running it's eco-brick initiative to reduce non-biodegradable waste. They aim to build a DJ riser out of all the eco-bricks they create and collect.

For each two-litre eco-brick you produce, they'll give you a pint token for the bar. Drop it off at The Bernard Shaw when you get a chance and it's free pint city. Here's instructions on how to make them.

In the last two years, Erica has been a regular on the Irish festival circuit, appearing at Electric Picnic, Castlepalooza and Longitude to crowds of fervent supporters who clamoured to the stage for an audible glimpse of her particular brand of empowering choonage.

Her distinctive sound plays on influences from 90s Hip-Hop icons blended with contemporary lyrics that address love, infatuation and female authority – perfect for the pre-drinks playlist or to employ a sense of self-confidence of all who listen (and inevitably end up singing along – that sh*t's catchy).

In the summer of 2018, Erica played the main stage at Electric Picnic with The Story of Hip Hop, collaborating with The RTE Orchestra, DJ Mo-K, Jess Kavanagh, Jafaris and Mango to a 13,000-capacity stage.

When she's not busy performing, she can be found modelling, acting and collaborating with massive brands like Nike and Samsung (casual). However, she's not one to fall into your typical 'influencer' category.

While she showcases her style and promotes her music on Instagram, she also uses her platforms to draw attention to societal issues like toxic masculinity and to elevate other female artists – promoting inclusively and creativity among her audience.

Our advice? Get your tickets ASAP, so you can gloat to your friends that you got to see Erica Cody just before she became one of Ireland's best-selling Irish singer songwriters. Don't sleep on it.
