Valentine’s Day

Is it just us, or does it feel like Valentine's Day crept up on us out of nowhere this year?

January felt like the month that would never end and now all of a sudden we're in the middle of February with not a second thought given to how we're going to spend the most romantic day of the year.

Sure, shops have been full of heart shaped chocolates and cheesy cards for weeks now, but in the typical 'ah sure, it'll be grand' fashion, we've failed to put any solid plans in place.

But never fear, we've put together a list of cute date ideas that require little to no preparation. Your partner will feel extra special without ever having to know that you almost forgot – you're welcome!

1. Take a stroll around Pheonix park

Or any park for that matter.

After spending most of winter cuddled up indoors, it's about time we make the most of that tiny wee stretch in the evening.

Sure, it's going to be absolutely baltic out, but at least you can bond over your shared hatred of the Irish winter.

2. At home spa day

Let's set the scene.

A steamy hot bubble bath, scented candles and as much chocolate and vino as your heart desires.

Take turns giving massages or apply face masks and settle in for a night of pure relaxation.

3. Game night

Dial up the cheese factor with a personalised game of Scrabble.

The rules are simple – the only words that count are the ones that fit into your chosen theme e.g. words that have meaning to your relationship/ dirty words/  made-up words – you get the picture.

4. Romantic breakfast before work

Given that Valentines' Day falls on a Wednesday this year, it's likely that most people will hold off celebrations until the weekend rolls around.

However, if you do want to mark the occasion in some shape or form, why not get up early and treat your partner to a gourmet breakfast.

Cook at home, or head to your favourite café – there's nothing like a little romance to put a pep in your step before work.

5. Hit up your local arcade

You'd be surprised what effect a healthy dose of competition could have on your love life.

Challenge your partner to an intense game of air hockey or make a show of yourself  on the dance machine – you might not be crowned the new 'Pinball Wizard' but you'll have a gas time trying.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, our minds have wandered to the recesses of our underwear drawer with destain for the over-washed wisps of plain cotton which lie within.

It's definitely more full coverage and comfy than Victorias Secret-esque, but that's all about to change.

Thanks to Lidl, you can now shop for a sexy lingerie look while your grabbing the weekly shop.

Kimono €7.99, Bra €7.99, Briefs €5.99

Amidst the affordable avocados, stacks of eggs and the beloved crisps aisle will soon live a seriously seductive range of lacy lingerie – but not for long with these prices.

The Esmara lingerie collection is monochrome, suiting everyone's taste.

The gorgeous Glenda Gilson is the face (and abs) of the line, and while frankly the seasoned presenter would look good wearing a plastic bag, the stunning selection of lace delicates and silk kimonos are oh so flattering.

Ladies kimono €7.99 each

Whether you're entertaining company for the night or lounging in PJs with the girls this coming Valentines Day, a robe is an essential.

Lidl is launching a selection of three silk kimonos, in classic black, racy red and an eclectic geometric print.

Would it be rude to purchase one for every mood?

Lace body €8.99

As Glenda demonstrates to great effect, a lace bodysuit is an unusual and flirty way to showcase your figure with a retro feel.

The slightly high cut of Lidl's monochrome bodysuits is extremely forgiving, and we can picture them teamed with jeans and barely there heels for the perfect Valentine's date night outfit – or a night on the tiles.

If you're feeling like a more traditional piece, a negligee is the way to go.

Lace bodies €8.99 each, Lace negligee €8.99

This black lace slip with a bow tie detail could be paired with any kind of briefs, and is exactly what we can picture the likes of SATC's Samantha reclining in with a glass of wine.

Whether you're treating yourself or planning on treating your partner, a classic bra and underwear set is a crowd pleaser (if you're into that).

Bra €7.99 each, Briefs €5.99 each

Lidl is stocking a selection of black and white lacy bras and knickers to mix and match. The sizes include 34B, 36B, 36C, 38B and 38C.

The collection lands in stores tomorrow so if there was a day of the week to do the weekly shop, it would be February 1.

Attention singletons!

The quest to find the perfect parter can sometimes feel like a never ending cycle of bad date and even worse breakups.

Whether it's a woeful first meeting, a stage five clinger, or the love of your life who wants absolutely nothing to do with you, the Irish dating scene doesn't exactly have the best reputation.

However, that could all be about change because the modern day Cupids over at The Late Late Show want to round up the best of the country's single lads and ladies for a very special Valentine's Day episode.

Interested candidates must be over 18, single, and up for a bit of craic.

If this sounds like you, simply fill out the online application here.

The show is set to air on Friday, February 9, and if it's anything like last year's innuendo-filled extravaganza, we're in for a treat.

Remember this classic piece of quality Irish television?

So, Professor Green trolled Instagram yesterday, and it looks like some of his fans and followers are struggling to see the logic behind this one.

In what appears to be a dig at the speculation which surrounds his burgeoning relationship with model Fae Williams, the British rapper decided to share a series of shots which suggested he had popped that all-important question.

Except he didn't, and apparently the joke is on us.

So, it all kicked off last night when good ol' Green shared a snap of some serious bling accompanied by the post: "Happy Valentine's Fae Williams."

Unsurprisingly, that was enough to set Insta off, but it didn't end there as the singer then shared a snap of Fae sporting the ring on her engagement finger.

Happy valentines @faewilliams as designed by @tessametcalfe

A post shared by Stephen Manderson (@professorgreen) on

With what appeared to be a reference to his former marriage to Millie Mackinstosh, he wrote: "Fingers crossed this time ay."

The post was flooded with congratulations from fans who had assumed the star had proposed to his new girlfriend.

"Congratulations to you both! She is a lucky lady! Wishing you all the luck in the world! You deserve it," wrote one.

Over the course of the next three hours, it seems Instagram was all over the news when Professor Green suddenly decided to swoop in and set the record straight.

Sharing a snap of himself rocking the ring on his baby finger, the rapper wrote: "Engaged to myself. Wait a minute, wrong finger."

And Instagram was left feeling a little shortchanged.

Engaged to myself. Wait a minute, wrong finger.

"You're being embarrassing now are you 5 or are you engaged?" wrote one follower while another added: "Respect has now dropped."

Thankfully for the Just Be Good to Green singer, some of his fans were on hand to help explain the apparent point of his posts.

"Can people not clearly see that @professorgreen has done this to get everyone talking about him and to make the press look like tossers?" remarked one.

Well, it definitely worked.

We have so much love for these two anyway, but they really sealed that deal on being the best couple ever today.

The Obamas have always been quite open about their love for each other, but they furthered that today with beautifully sappy Valentine's Day messages.

Both sharing photos on Twitter, Barack was the first one to gush about his spouse, writing: "Happy Valentine's Day, @michelleobama! Almost 28 years with you, but it always feels new."

AWWW.

Michele was next, posting a picture of their feet in the sand and captioning it: "Happy Valentine's day to the love of my life and favourite island mate, @BarackObama."

It's going to be hard to beat these two in the love department.

Binky Felstead announced last month that she's expecting a baby with her on/off lover JP Paterson.

But, it looks like the MIC couple are very much together now after posting this cute Valentine's Day snap.

Taking to the social media network, Binky shared a photo of them both in bed together with the caption: "Happy Valentine's Day to this gorgeous baby daddy to be. Count myself very lucky to have you in my life."

Speaking to OK! last month after announcing her pregnancy, Binky said that the reality TV couple have been getting on well since they found out they're having a baby.

"We're getting on better than ever, so this news has actually been a real blessing.

Remember the last time you hoofed into a tray of fast food, and then felt that oh-so-familiar twinge to get down and dirty with your other half?

Yeah, us neither, but that hasn't stopped Burger King getting in on some Valentine's Day action by providing its customers with 'an adult toy' with every 'adult meal' purchase.

No, seriously.

After 6pm today, Burger King connoisseurs in Israel can tuck into two Whoppers, two orders of fries, and two beers before making use of an adult toy provided by the global corporation.

If that's not romance, we don't know what is.

Oh, but if you think those lucky divils over in Israel will be making use of gadgets seen only in Fifty Shades of Grey, think again.

It looks like the 'adult toy' in question comes in the form of an eye-mask, a feather duster or a head-massager.

Disappointed? Yeah, us too.
