Missing a flight has got to be one of the worst things to happen but unfortunately, it is usually your own fault…

Misreading your flight times

This is an easy mistake to make – not everyone knows how to read a 24 hour clock…

Traffic delays

You should always factor traffic into your journey to the airport.

Forgetting your passport

Well, now this is just being careless.

Staying too long in the bar after security

The first thing you do after going through security is to hit the bar, sure what else would be doing. Unfortunately, some people can get a little too comfy and end up missing their flight.

Forgetting to factor in security

Seriously you should know by now that security takes a long time, especially when certain travellers insist on not putting their cosmetics into plastic bags- seriously people.

Sleeping in

What do airlines expect, the cheap flights are always at a ridiculous hour.

The luxurious Mihir Garh in Rajasthan, India has been named the world’s most extraordinary hotel by Lonely Planet.

The castle is located on a sand mound at the edge of a desert and would set you back £320 for a one night’s stay. However, it didn’t just win on its extravagance as spokesperson for Lonely Planet, James Kay explains.

He says: “Few hotels are created without compromise; Mihir Garh is a rare example. This is not just a unique place to stay; it’s a shrine to the artistic and architectural traditions of Rajasthan in general and Jodhpur in particular.”

Coming in second was The Planet Baobab in Botswana’s Kalahari desert where guests sleep in colourful thatched huts and watch lions on the horizon.

The Torre Prendiparte B&B in Bologna came in a respectable third and the 900-year-old tower, which is the second tallest building in the city, comes complete with a rooftop terrace and “breathtaking” views of the Italian city.

Now all we need to do is pack a bag and decide which one to go for – decisions, decisions.

There are some pretty awesome theme parks around the world that don’t involve a Mickey Mouse or a fairy princess.

Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World sounds just as cool as it is. Not only is it the largest indoor theme park with over 20 Ferrari-themed rides and attractions, it is also home to the world’s fastest roller coaster which can hit speeds of 240km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Eek!

Legoland, Denmark

Did you know there are six Legoland theme parks around the world? There are two in the US, one in the UK, one in Malaysia, one in Germany and of course one in Denmark . However, the one in Billund is a little bit special as it is located in the very same town where Lego started. You don’t even need to bring a child to witness the wonder of famous buildings recreated in the miniature bricks.

Window of the World, China

If you fancy seeing the Eiffel Tower one-third of its size then Window of the World theme park in China is just for you. The park replicates iconic sights such as Niagara Falls and the Pyramids of Giza  in 1:1, 1:5 or 1:15 scale.

Now the hardest decision will be deciding where to go.

If you fancy visiting a hotel with a bit of a difference, you should definitely put Singapore’s Park Royal hotel on your to-do list.

The hotel, which was designed by WOHA architects, features not one but six sky gardens that will leave you in awe of the designers.

The green areas wrap around the hotel’s glassy exterior and guests are even treated to tropical gardens right outside their windows.

The gardens not only feature 15,000 square metres of reflecting pools, waterfalls, planters, outdoor hallways poolside bird cages and greenery, but it is also pretty good at energy and water conservation.

It was designed as a sustainable project and even has a zero-energy sky garden; not surprisingly, it has won more than 12 awards for its design and sustainability.

Unfortunately, the hotel which cost $350million to build  doesn’t come cheap and rooms start from about €230.

Spike Aerospace, Inc. have plans to create the world’s “first supersonic business jet” that will not only cut flying time by half but will be the first windowless business jet.

Instead of windows, the interior of the Spike S-512 will be covered by display screens embedded into the walls. Cameras surrounding the aircraft will construct “breathtaking panoramic views” that will be displayed inside the jet.

According to the company it is not all about looks and there is an actual reason for removing the windows.

They said: “It has long been known that the windows cause significant challenges in designing and constructing an aircraft fuselage. They require addition structural support, add to the parts count and add weight to the aircraft. But until recently, it has not been possible to do without them.”

The firm also claims that it will cut flights down by half so that “it will save passengers time so they can explore more of the world”.

Unfortunately, with style comes a hefty price tag and the supersonic jet will set you back $60 million. However, on the brighter side, it is not due for release until December 2018 so you have some time to save.

There are many reasons that people chicken out of travelling; however, no matter how much of cliché this sounds like, travelling will really open up to new experiences and new people

The excuse: It’s too dangerous
We admit it, some places are safer than others but just choose your destinations with caution and you’ll be fine. There is a whole world out there to be enjoyed – feel the fear and do it anyway.

The excuse: I’m broke
This is a legitimate excuse we know but there are so many other ways around it! Volunteer or work as an English teacher – not only will you be giving back but it will look good on your CV.

The excuse: Too many responsibilities
You will always find something more important that you need to do but just go with it – as the kids would say, “YOLO”.

The excuse: I’ll be homesick
Leaving your family and friend behind for the big bad world can be pretty daunting but it will be so worth it. And it’s not like you can never see them again!
