Yearly Archives: 2017

We're only a few weeks into 2017 and the year's biggest hair colour trends are already starting to reveal themselves.

The good news is that 2017 will be the year of hair trends that we can all pull off, and it is not what we expected.

2017's hottest hair trend is inspired by Hygge, which describes the distinctly Danish feeling of cosiness and contentment.

What exactly does this mean?

Basically this year is all about warmth and comfort, with soft coppers, rich browns, buttery blondes, and creamy oranges… YAY!

The beauty of this toasty trend is that it is for everyone, and is not a crazy, daring shade like peach or purple.

No rainbow hair here ladies, just a whole lotta hygge.

After a campaign, initiated by the Irish Cancer Society, was met with mixed reaction last month, the chief executive of the organisation has decided to address the criticism.

Referring to the 'I Want to Get Cancer' initiative, John McCormack this week extended his apologies to anyone who was affected by the advertising campaign, but maintained that the purpose of the initiative was to raise even further awareness of the regularity with which people are diagnosed in Ireland.

"Cancer takes far too many lives, and being reminded of its destruction can make people feel vulnerable and raw," he said. "But I would like to get one thing absolutely clear, and that is that this campaign was undertaken to save lives. That was our one and only motivation."

"While the merits of our campaign were being debated in the papers and on the airwaves, 150 people a day were hearing the words, 'You have cancer'. One person every three minutes – that's 40,000 people a year," he added.

Acknowledging the distress the campaign caused among members of the public, Mr McCormack extended his sympathies and acknowledged the impact the nature of the campaign had on many.

"My team and I also deal with some very difficult calls, People reached out to us as they were hurt by our campaign and it reignited a grief that was so very hard to bear," he said.

"This was often a direct consequence of the cancer diagnosis that the person, their friend or their family had received."

"On behalf of the society, I want to acknowledge the hurt that our campaign may have caused people. That was never our intention," he insisted.

"And to anyone that has lost a loved one to cancer, I am truly sorry," he said.

We've all found ourselves justifying a 'sick day' because our bodies need to rest and recuperate, right?

And considering the public's annual desire to hide away from the world on the first Monday in February, it's no real surprise that today has been dubbed National Sickie Day.

We might tell ourselves we'll only spend a couple of hours under the blankets in front of the box before getting to grips with those things that we just don't get a chance to look at when we're in work all week, but unfortunately, it doesn't really work that way.

And here are just ten incidents which remind us why.

Expectation: I will take the day off and become a better person as a result.

Reality: I will eat Honey Loops from the box and wipe my sticky hands on the couch.

Expectation: I will pamper myself and return to work revived and refreshed.

Reality: I will be lucky if I brush my teeth.

Expectation: I will NOT sleep all day and wreck my sleeping pattern.

Reality: I will sleep all day and suffer insomnia all night.

Expectation: I will glance over some work documents from the comfort of my own home thereby putting myself AHEAD of the game.

Reality: I will binge watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians and judge them from my duvet kingdom.

Expectation: I will tell no one I am taking the day off as this is a private endeavour.

Reality: I will message everyone in my contacts and use the word 'suckers' more than once.

Expectation: I will spring clean the house because I am not unwell, but simply taking some down-time.

Reality: I will spill Honey Loops down the side of the couch and refuse to pick them up because I am taking some down-time.

Expectation: I will meditate and collect my thoughts because it's damn hard getting time to do it during the week.

Reality: I will obsess and worry about insignificant things which I don't even THINK about during the week.

Expectation: I will do some online research into local evening classes.

Reality: I will spend two to three hours reading about ostriches on Wikipedia.

Expectation: I will go for a swift walk around the block as fresh air is a daily requirement.

Reality: I will cower beneath the blankets when the doorbells goes.

Expectation: I will not ruin my day by feeling guilty.

Reality: I will ruin every waking moment by feeling guilty.

Ugh, pass us the lip gloss, we're rejoining the human race tomorrow.

If anyone has a serious case of The Fear this morning, it's one particular branch of Domino's Pizza after an employee was snapped in a compromising position in a well-known highstreet supermarket.

So, it all kicked off when the guy, who was wearing a Dominos uniform, was photographed stocking up on potato wedges in a branch of Aldi in the UK.

Taking to social media to call the pizza giant out on the apparent indiscretion, SineadSarah shared the snap before writing: "Thank you @dominos – next time I spend 3.99 on tiny portion of potato wedges, I'll remember there from Asda." (sic)

Twitter users, unsurprisingly, wasted no time getting in on the drama as the tweet racked up more than 17,000 likes in less than 24 hours.

"Free Pizza for life coming her way so she doesn't reveal any more of your secrets!" wrote one (exceptionally gleeful) social media user.

"I feel so betrayed," added another.

Weighing in on the controversy, a spokesperson for the international franchise acknowledged the public's outrage, and hastened to offer an explanation for the move.

"With a big sporting weekend, very occasionally our stores are in an unfortunate position where some products may run out," she said.

"We do not advocate this as a solution and are investigating. We have rigorous food standards where our franchisees buy all food from our approved suppliers to help maintain the high standards customers rightly expect.”

Right, so…

Last Friday morning is not one we'll forget in a hurry here at SHEmazing! HQ.

With sweat forming on our brows and our trembling fingers poised over our keyboards, more than a few of us primed ourselves before attempting to get our hands on tickets to Ed Sheeran's Dublin gig.

And hell, was it a pressurised environment.

So, we have nothing but sympathy for one Ed Sheeran fan who admitted she accidentally spent £1,300 on three tickets to see the man himself after the pressure got too much for her on secondary ticketing website – Viagogo.

21-year-old Charlotte Duckworth has hit out at the site after she was shown a total of £377, and led to believe that that was the cost of all three tickets.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, she said: "I can't afford that and I'm trying everything I can to get my money back. That's nearly three months rent. I've sent several emails to Viagogo but they keep saying there's nothing they can do."

Taking to Twitter, Charlotte highlighted the severity of the situation by explaining she'd likely have to move home and sell her car in order to facilitate the unexpected expenditure.

Unfortunately for Charlotte. not everybody is sympathetic, with one follower writing: "Who adds items to their cart and goes through the checkout process without looking at the price?"

"Nobody forced you on to that website. It is because people buy from these pr*cks that they are in existence," added another.

Viagogo's website states: "It's not possible to cancel or exchange tickets once a purchase has been made as orders are considered final."

A weather forecaster said: “Strong, gusty south to southeast winds on Monday will reach mean speeds of 45km/hr to 65km/hr, with gusts of 90km/hr to 100km/hr in coastal areas.

YIKES!

The freezing weather is expected to arrive from Russia over the next few days, with the cold snap continuing through the weekend.

Met Eireann has forecast 3C to 6C next weekend, but it could feel much colder as a result of the windchill.

A forecaster said: “Friday and next weekend will be very cold as an easterly airflow becomes established over Ireland.

According to emerging reports, thousands of Facebook users have been left vulnerable to hacking following the circulation of a scam email featuring a YouTube video.

In recent weeks, Facebook users have received a message purporting to be from a friend through the site's messaging app.

It has been established that the message asks the recipient whether they feature in particular footage, and includes a YouTube video in the body of the message.

As the video thumbnail features the recipient's profile picture, many social media users have clicked on the link and entered their Facebook password in order to view the video.

The link has directed the user to a variety of different sites including YouTube and Amazon, and allows hackers to record and store the password the user submitted.

Facebook users have been advised against entering their passwords, and have been encouraged to warn friends to change their password if the message appears to have originated with them.
