The Darkness Into Light walks took place across the country, and the globe, this morning.

In excess of 150,000 people were expected to take part at over 150 venues all over the world.

Since the first event took place in the Phoenix Park in Dublin in 2009, the walks have become a global symbol of people standing in solidarity for suicide prevention.

The 5km walk begins before first light and ends as the sun rises, in a powerful symbolic demonstration that helps to tackle the stigma associated with suicidal feelings and depression, and aims to deliver the message that there is always hope and help for those who feel suicidal.

'So many families have been touched by suicide,' said Senator Joan Freeman, speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland.

'It is not just about thousands of people walking, it is about coming together as a country, and all talking about the same topic.'

Irish participants have been sharing the scenes from Pieta House's initiative all morning, which kicked off at around 4am this morning.

Organisers expect to raise a total of €3 million from the event, which will go towards supporting keeping Pieta House's life-saving counselling services free.

The weather has been completely gorgeous lately, and the bright conditions are expected to remain for most of the weekend.

However, according to Met Eireann, the sunny weather will be accompanied by patches of rain across the country today.

There will be a 'mixture across the country today between sunny, blue skies and cloudy conditions with patchy drizzle.'

'Highest temperatures 13 to 17 degrees in fresh easterly winds, easing later.'

Moving into Sunday however, temperatures are set to soar, reaching 20 degrees in some parts.

'A dry, fine day with sunny spells in all areas and clear, sunny skies for some.'

'Highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees in light breezes.'

So we'll need both sunscreen and an umbrella this weekend.

To celebrate the launch of the Power. Full. Smoothies summer campaign Naked Juice are hosting POWER. FULL zones at Wellfest and Body & Soul festival this summer and they’ll be bringing the latest fitness crazes POUND fitness and SURF SET with them.

Former Cork camogie captain and all round fitness fanatic, Anna Geary will be on board to show case these energetic and fun workouts to crowds across the country as well as giving talks on the topic of ‘Progress Not Perfection’.

We spoke to Anna about the campaign, and how she manages to keep and healthy while maintaining her busy schedule.

Anna uses sport as a way to stay in control of her life, but knows believes that everyone needs to find a routine that suits them.

Her advice to anyone looking to find motivation? Write down your goal.

‘’Put it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Having a visual queue will make you accountable for your actions.’’

Anna reckons that sharing your goal with a close friend or family member is vital to staying on the right track – and if you can manage to recruit them as a workout buddy, even better.

Your goals should be small and achievable at first. Remember ‘’you’re the only person you’re competing with’’ so don’t get bogged down with what everyone else is doing. As long as you’re making progress, you’re golden.

‘’Negative talk is the easiest way to fall off the wagon.’’

It’s important to stay positive when you’re trying to improve your fitness levels, and that’s much easier to do when you’re not focusing on other people’s achievements.

Anna explained, ‘’Everyone’s perfect is different.’’

‘’It’s not what you’re doing, it’s why you’re doing it… Success should never be the goal – it’s a byproduct.’’

She also recommends creating a routine that fits around your lifestyle. So, ‘’if you’re not a morning person, don’t work out in the morning’’ – simple!

You’re much more likely to stick to something if you enjoy it, and let’s face it, it takes a very special type of human to actually enjoy working out in the morning.

Anna will be at WellFest in Dublin this weekend and Body & Soul this June where she will be speaking about the topic of  ‘Progress Not Perfection’.

Let’s face it, politics can be confusing at the best of times, but it doesn’t Enda Kenny can’t actually remember what he did or didn’t say.

Questions have been raised over whether or not the Taoiseach raised the issue of women’s rights during a trade mission to Saudi Arabia in 2014 after he made some conflicting comments on the issue.

Speaking in Toronto on Friday he said he had raised the issue of human rights ‘’which obviously includes women's rights", with the Saudi Authorities.

‘’Minister for Foreign Affairs Minister Flanagan has raised specifically the issue of women’s rights and that will continue to be Ireland’s position,” he added.

However, the statement conflicted with what Enda said in the Dáil at the time of the mission.

On April 1, 2014, the Taoiseach said “The issue of women’s rights was not specifically discussed,” when quizzed by Micheal Martin.

Enda replied to the confusion by saying that while the issue of human rights was discussed in Saudi Arbaia, it did not include a specific emphasis on women’s rights.

Aaron Harvey, a mental health campaigner from Orlando, Florida, struggled with OCD for most of his adult life.

For 20 years, he was consumed by negative and often violent thoughts as a result of the disorder, but now, he has finally decided to speak up and break the stigma around OCD.

“I finally sought treatment when I started challenging my harm OCD thoughts,” he told The Independent.

“I remember having an image flash into my mind where I was standing in front of a mirror in a dark room holding a butcher knife to my neck.’’

He continued, ‘’In that moment, I realised it was a memory, not an unwanted thought. The night before I must have self-medicated so heavily I didn't remember. I was terrified.”

The 36-year-old is speaking out about his experiences with that hope that he can encourage others with the condition to seek help.

See, many people assume that OCD sufferers are just paranoid about the cleanliness of their surroundings or become irritated when things don’t go according to schedule, but the reality of the condition is much darker for some.

It took Aaron Harvey over two decades to take control of his condition, but now he has set up the non-profit mental health organisation IntrusiveThoughts.org.

Through this, he established the Intrusive Thoughts Project, an initiative which invites people diagnosed with OCD to share their stories YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

On average, it takes people seven years to seek professional help for OCD and according to Aaron this is largely due to the disturbing and emotional nature of the condition.

“Violence. Sex. Murder. Pedophilia. Blasphemy. It's all so taboo that you spend your entire life trying to prove to yourself you're not capable of acting on the images in your head."

Although he has sought help, Aaron admits that his OCD can still flare up every now and again.

‘’It disrupts all the beautiful moments in my life, and all the mundane ones too."

His ultimate goal is to break the stigma around the disorder and in turn, offer help to people who think they have no one to talk to.

So, we’ve all heard the phrase ‘size doesn’t matter’, but as it turns out, that may not always be the case.

Or at least not when it comes to your shoe size anyway.

According to a new study, the pain we suffer from wearing our high heels all night may actually be something to do with the fact almost half of us are wearing the wrong shoe size.

Research conducted by the College of Podiatry found that nearly half of all the women that were surveyed admitted to buying shoes that didn’t fit properly.

It’s thought that it probably has something to do with the rise in popularity of online shopping, which doesn't allow for trying things on first.

It’s also worth noting that our feet don’t necessarily stay the same size forever.

Even in adulthood they can change in shape and size, so chances are you've got a pair of shoes that don't fit anymore.

We're not convinced that this is the only reason our feet hurt in high heels, but we'll try anything to ease the suffering.

Following the release of his second single Slow Hands, our very own Niall Horan dropped by the BBC Radio 1 studio this morning.

During the interview, Nick Grimshaw arranged for the former One Direction star to have a chat with a professional Niall Horan impersonator, and of course the result was hilarious.

Under the guise of a pretty convincing English accent, Niall asked the impersonator to perform at his friends 30th birthday party.

The former One direction star then began quizzing the poor chap about his favourite band member and asked for his honest opinion about Niall.

And of course, Niall couldn’t hire a impersonator without hearing a few bars.

Impersonator Liam reluctantly agreed to sing the chorus of This Town down the phone before Niall finally revealed himself.

Side note. We are absolutely loving Niall's latest single Slow Hands

Kendall Jenner is under fire once again, this time for gracing the cover of Vogue India.

The KUWTK star has been facing criticism for her latest cover, which celebrates the publication's 10 year anniversary.

People have expressed annoyance that a non-Indian woman was chosen to front the special issue of the magazine.

'In a culture where girls are encouraged to use skin-whitening creams and bleach, picking Kendall Jenner for #vogueindia is a step backwards,' said one Twitter user.

'Wasn't the point of #vogueindia to celebrate brown fashion and not slap a white woman on it's cover for an anniversary issue?' said another.

The criticism comes after Kendall faced a wave of online backlash after her Pepsi campaign went viral for all the wrong reasons.

The campaign was accused of capitalising on activism, and was branded insensitive by many.

The morning-after-pill will now be available to medical card holders without a GP visit.

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris, has announced this morning that people with medical cards will have access to emergency contraception directly from their pharmacies, free of charge from July 2017.

'Announcing this morning that access to emergency contraception directly through the pharmacy will be available on the General Medical Services scheme from July,' he said, speaking at the Irish Pharmacy Union this morning.

'All women – regardless of means – should have access to emergency contraception through their pharmacy. This measure will ensure this,' he continued, according to the Journal.

The Irish Pharmacy Union welcomed the development, saying that it 'addresses a longstanding injustice and anomaly for these women who, up to now, had to go to their GP to get a prescription if they wished to get emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) on the medical card.'

'It is time sensitive and that its effectiveness diminishes between the time of unprotected sex and the time of taking it, emphasising both the importance of all women being able to readily access it and thus the value of the convenience and accessibility offered by community pharmacies.'
