Yearly Archives: 2017

by

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and in what was a pretty glorious week weather wise, that can only mean one thing – thunderstorms and torrential downpours.

Yep. Just when you thought we might actually get a bit of a summer this year, Met Éireann issue the entire country with a status yellow weather warning.

Heavy showers will spread eastwards across the country today, bringing a risk of thunder and localised flooding, though it will gradually clear through the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Tomorrow will start off dry in the east, however, showers will become widespread by early afternoon. Temperatures will fall slightly with expected highs of 13 to 17 degrees.

It's a similar story heading into the weekend, however Saturday looks set to be the best day, with sunny spells and highs of 16 to 19 degrees.

It was fun while it lasted, guys.

Boyzone are back!

The guys have been busy working on a very special 25th anniversary album, and it looks like they've enlisted the help of some very talented song writers.

During a recent interview, Shane Lynch revealed that Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith had both penned tracks for the boyband, but admitted that nothing was set in stone just yet.

He told The Sun: “We have gathered a number of tracks. We’re not finished yet, we are still harvesting. We have a track from Ed and one from Sam.”

The track that Sam’s written, I absolutely adore. I love the record so I hope it goes on the album.”

He added: “We are also dealing with some of the guys who worked recently with UK artists from Emeli Sande to Professor Green and Labrinth.”

Shane also told the newspaper that the album was due for release some time between September and February, and confirmed the band would embark on a tour next spring.

“It’s all happening. We’re recording pretty much whenever we can get to a studio.

“We are all floating around a bit doing individual projects — some in London, some in LA, Ronan is in and out of Australia.

“Nowadays recording is brilliant because you don’t actually have to be there, you can send files around the world.”

This will be the band's first release since their 20th anniversary album in 2013.

Tributes are being paid this morning, after a teenager, named locally as Damola Adetosoye, drowned in the River Shannon.

A 17-year-old boy was swimming with friends when he got into difficulty when at Habour View marina near the village of Tarmonbarry in Co Roscommon, at around 5.00pm yesterday evening.

It's understood his friends made attempts to save him, however, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí and other emergency services attended the scene with members of Civil Defence, while local divers took part in the search operation.

The teenager, who was a keen GAA and soccer player, was from the Newtownforbes area of Co Longford.

Local man Tom Crosbie, says the community is in shock.

He said: "While we have had drownings over the years, this one, with the young man being so young, it's very very sad."

If there's two things we love in this world it's dogs and weddings (pizza comes in somewhere too, obvs).

Unfortunately for most of us, neither of those things will ever be incorporated into our working lives.

But now, a woman named Veronica Silva had trouble finding a dog sitter when she was getting married, and feared that her beloved pet would end up alone on her big day.

In the end, the bride couldn't find anyone to mind her precious pup… so she came up with a very smart business idea.

Dog sitting at weddings.

Veronica set up her own company Pawfect For You, and we think it's the dreamiest job in the world.

She takes care of everything that the pet needs on the day, from transport, to cleaning, feeding and everything in between.

Speaking the HuffPost, Veronica said: "I was trying to find a pet sitting service that would take care of our dog on our wedding day, but would also bring JakeBear to the church and venue to be in some of our pictures.

“I didn’t want to ask one of our friends, since they were all part of our wedding.

“I love this, being able to go to couples’ special events where they’re already ecstatic and in a wonderful mood. Having their pet there elates them more.”

Dogs and weddings? Does it get any better?

Naming a baby is incredibly tough, something this mum-of-two knows about all too well.

In fact, Sophie Cachia’s daughter has been given three names since her birth… and Sophia is still not happy with her decision.

The Young Mummy blogger recently took to Instagram to share her baby naming woes, describing her experience as “one gigantic clusterf*ck of f*ckups.”

A post shared by Sophie Cachia (@sophiecachia_) on

Talking about her love of Audrey Hepburn, Sophie explains how growing up she was convinced she was going to name her future daughter after her idol.

“I even begged Jaryd (husband) in labour with Bobby to change our Valentina/Florence to Audrey at the last minute if a girl came out,” she wrote.

“Funnily enough, I had a girl and Audrey was never in the equation this time.”

But Betty was.

FACT: my entire life I loved Audrey. I had artwork & posters of her on my walls at home. I was ALWAYS convinced I was going to call my future daughter Audrey. I even begged Jaryd in labour with Bobby to change our Valentina/Florence to Audrey at the last minute if a girl came out. Funnily enough, I had a girl and Audrey was never in the equation this time. Betty was, then that was wrong. Missy lasted 48 hours, and then she ended Florence Margaret but Margaret was only supposed to be the middle name if she was called Betty, and Florence was always supposed to be Florence Gigi after Jaryd's sister. But I totally fucked the whole thing up and now my experience with naming a girl is one gigantic clusterfuck of fuckups. So now LEGALLY she's Florence Margaret but we call her Florence Gigi (ESPECIALLY now since she's her Aunty Gigi's mini-twin!!!) So yeah… basically I suck at naming girls.

However, this name didn’t last very long, and soon Betty became Missy… but just for 48 hours.

“Betty was, then that was wrong. Missy lasted 48 hours, and then she ended Florence Margaret but Margaret was only supposed to be the middle name if she was called Betty, and Florence was always supposed to be Florence Gigi after Jaryd's sister.”

Confused? Us too.

Continuing, the mum wrote: “But I totally f*cked the whole thing up and now my experience with naming a girl is one gigantic clusterf*ck of f*ckups.

“So now LEGALLY she's Florence Margaret but we call her Florence Gigi (ESPECIALLY now since she's her Aunty Gigi's mini-twin!!!) So yeah… basically I suck at naming girls.”

OK, all we're hoping is that we can make our minds up when the time comes!

A lot of people feel to need to get their other half's name tattooed on them as a sign of love.

And of course, it's an insanely sweet gesture that will last a lifetime… but that's the problem, it lasts a lifetime.

Paris Hilton's boyfriend, Chris Zylka, recently surprised Paris with a tattoo of her name on his arm, drawn in Disney letters.

The pair have been together since Feburary, after Paris confirmed on a US chat show that he was her "soulmate."

Paris shared the tattoo on her Instagram page, both with a close-up image and a video.

She captioned the snaps, "Such a lucky girl! My love surprised me and got my name tattooed in Disney font (sic).

"And said because I'm his most magical place on earth and he finally found his fairytale princess."

She added the hashtags, "BoyfriendGoals and #ParisForever."

What do you think of Chris' tattoo?

It's safe to say the whole world and their mother is obsessed with Kate Middleton.

From her wardrobe to her kids, we all love seeing what she's up to as well as what she wears on a daily basis.

The mum-of-two touched down in Poland this week, and to no surprise, her adoring fans met her the minute she stepped off the plane.

A number of young Polish students all gathered to see their "idol" visit their country, and even got a few words from Kate herself.

Speaking th the Mirror Online, Polish student Magda Mordaka said: "We are fans of the British monarchy. We have a Facebook group.

"We love [Kate Middleton's] style, and her contact with people. We were waiting for this visit from the beginning. What would she wear? Would she bring her children?

"We were telling her that she is beautiful and perfect," Magda said.

However, Kate had a quick comeback to that comment, and told Magda and her friends, "[That's] not true… it's just good make-up."

What an absolute queen. We don't think we could love K Middy any more than we do now.

Between being a mermaid, drinking lots of wine and travelling to exotic countries, let's just say we all have dreams for the future…

And this little spot in Croatia might just make all of those dreams come true.

The country has just opened it's first-ever underwater winery, and it sounds like the most perfect summer getaway.

A post shared by Valentina Tepedino (@valentr) on

Edivo Vina is located in Drače on the Pelješac Peninsula of Croatia and offers customers the chance to dive below sea level to a special winery which houses aged wines that have been in the ocean for over two years.

While diving down, you will also pass an old sunken boat, which actually stores the wine for the duration that it's under water.

Oh, and as well as that, you'll be able to watch the whole wine-making process from the start.

And it's pretty impressive. The wine is first aged for three months on land, until being packed away into a clay-like jugs, which are called amphorae.

A post shared by alexcotts (@alexcotts) on

The jugs of wine are then stored in the sunken underwater ship, before being brought back up to land two years later.

And the amphorae? Well, they come back up covered in sea shells and coral… so your dream of becoming a mermaid may possible come true (for an Instagram picture, anyway).

OK, this is right up our street. Trip to Croatia anyone?

Many of us are delighted to get a little cash bonus at Christmas, or even a nice staff night out so you can party with all of your work wives.

We're always pretty thankful for when these things are given to us – but an all-expenses-paid holiday? You must be dreaming.

Well, these employees were certainly in a dream when their boss brought them away for a week to Marbella, and even threw in a Michelin-starred meal.

Ian Lucas, the owner of a travel company, Red7, decided to take his 42 members of staff away with him on a luxury holiday.

According to Lad Bible, Ian said: "Some of them have been with the company since it started, so it's only right that these people are at the centre of our celebrations.

"What sets Red7 apart from its competitors is a promise to create once-in-a-lifetime premium experiences – I wanted to bring that element of our ethos to life for my staff during this trip."

Can we have a job, Ian?

Red7 specialises in 'group activity and travel' and is popular over in the UK for stag and hen parties.

Ian seems to celebrate every ten years. This was Red7's twentieth anniversary trip and for it's tenth anniversary, Ian flew his employees over to Benidorm.

"Perhaps for the 30th anniversary of Red7, we'll find ourselves in Las Vegas, having a flutter on red seven," Ian added.

When it comes to celebrity weddings, those A-listers tend to go one of two ways.

Some couples find their way onto the cover of a glossy magazine and others say their 'I do's' without the press or public even realising.

Firmly in the latter camp are Hollywood couple, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell, who chose to keep schtum about their recent ceremony until the deal was officially done.

Nuptials

A post shared by Kate Mara (@katemara) on

Oh, and even after deciding to public with the fact they tied the knot at the weekend, the couple chose not to share too much of the event with their fans and followers.

Uploading the same unfocussed shot to their Twitter and Instagram accounts, the couple, who began dating in 2015, chose to keep it short and sweet in their captions.

"Nuptials," wrote 34-year-old Kate alongside her snap while 31-year-old Jamie simply wrote; "Me & Mrs B."

The posts, which were inundated with support from fans and followers, have amassed thousands of likes in recent hours.

Only last month, Jade Thirlwall was tipped to play Princess Jasmine in the live remake of Aladdin.

Rumours were swirling for a weeks, and to be fair, everyone got pretty excited at the prospect of Jade taking on the role.

However, it was announced this week that Jade didn't get the role, and instead it went to actress Naomi Scott.

We, along with Jade's fans, were pretty disappointed, but it seems like the Little Mix singer is not letting it get her down.

And if her most recent Instagram picture has anything to say about it, she's totally "over it."

We're sure Naomi will play a brilliant Jasmine, but we can't help but love Jade's little dig at Disney.

Bad news for anyone born in 1991 – according to this Chinese magazine, you'll struggle to find love.

The state-owned publication, caused a stir online after making the claim that people born in the year of the sheep are destined for a lifetime of bad luck in the romance department.

See, in Beijing, many of the older population still believe in the old Chinese custom of matching two families based on their personalities, social class and even the Chinese zodiac – all of which were reflected in the answers given in a recent interview by Phoenix Weekly.

The magazine asked a number of parents living in Beijing what it was like to try to set their sons and daughters up with a potential love interest, and concluded that for those born in 1991, “life is not good -no children even if other conditions are appropriate.”

One interviewee even said, "No people whose Chinese Zodiac is a sheep."

The article sparked huge backlash on Weibo, with many users taking offence at the comments made about the year of the sheep.

"My mother is a sheep, my girlfriend is also a sheep… this superstition is nonsense, sheep have the best temperament,” one man said.

So, if your birthday does happen to fall in 1991, all hope is not lost.

In fact, according to Chinese astrologer, Master George Tang, those born in the year of the sheep are “refined, cunning, aesthetic, perceptive, charming, serene and sensitive.”

You got this!
