While appearing on Today with Sean O'Rourke this morning, Ryanair's Chief Executive, Michael O'Leary, addressed the airline's policy on seating.

During a discussion on the creation of a new runway at Dublin Airport, O'Leary was confronted with a tweet which essentially asked him to justify the €2 charge they place on choosing a seat.

And Michael O'Leary had no issue responding to the criticism.

"There has been some controversy surrounding our seating policy. We have a free seating policy. If you don't want to pay a fare of €2 and you choose a random seat, you get it free of charge," he began.

Outlining the options available to the public, he continued: "If you want to sit beside somebody, you buy a reserved seat, you can do that from €2 and frankly if you're not happy to pay the €2 to sit beside somebody else, stop complaining."

"If you have chosen a random seat, you're getting a random seat, so stop whinging. Pay the €2 like more than 50% or 65 million of our customers do and sit wherever you like," he suggested.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter users have wasted no time responded to O'Leary's justification, with many going as far as to suggest he's stretching the truth.

"On the whole, love the Ryanair marketing and ethos, but in this case, reserved seats are more like €7-€13 not €2 so it's no small issue.," wrote one.

Another added: "2euros? Cost €80 euro return for family of three to Spain to sit together."

Fake fan application is a struggle us Irish gals know all too well.

From streaky legs to orange hands, getting the perfect even glow can seem like an impossible task.

And don't even talk to us about those hard-to-reach areas.

Unless you've got somebody willing to lend a tan-mitt covered hand, you're pretty much forced to walk around looking like Ross Geller that time her forgot how to count to five.

Well, until now.

In a genius new trend sweeping the internet, women are using the humble coat hanger to achieve the perfect, all-over tan.

Simply attach your mitt to one side of the hanger, apply a generous helping of your favourite tanning product, and voila – you've just found the key to the perfectly bronzed back.

Now, we've seen many beauty hacks in our time, but this might just be our favourite yet.

Once hailed as the 'healthy' alternative to sugar laden fizzy drinks, diet substitutes were the drink of choice for the calorie-counters among us.

However, recently it seems that consumers have fallen out of love with the 'sweet' stuff after a number of studies found links between artificial sweeteners and higher risks of dementia and stroke.

And now, new research has suggested that diet fizzy drinks may contribute to weight gain.

In 2014, both American Diabetes Association and The American Heart Association gave their stamp of approval to artificial sweeteners, but not everyone was convinced.

Following the statements, a group of international researchers set out to determine whether or not low-calorie sugar substitutes really lived up to the hype.

Meghan Azad, a researcher at the University of Manitoba, and others reviewed dozens of studies about the long-term health effects of sugar substitutes and identified a very interesting common thread.

The study found that not only did artificial sweeteners have an adverse effect on weight management, but people who drank them often had an increased body mass index and risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Meghan explained:

“I think originally it was calories were the problem, and we've made something that was zero calories, so we're good. But we're learning that it's not just about the calories.”

What's more, even if fizzy drinks aren't your thing, there's a chance you may be inadvertently consuming artificial sweeteners in products such as yoghurt and granola.

“We need more evidence from better quality studies to know for sure the cause and effect, but there does seem to be at least a question about the daily consumption of these drinks,” she said.

It should be noted that until such studies are conducted, researchers suggest taking these results with a pinch of salt.

However, after concluding that “nonnutritive sweeteners (are) significantly associated with modest long-term increases,” it might be worth keeping on eye on your consumption in the meantime.

With the sheer number of talent shows which have found their way onto the small screen in the last decade, it's fair to say most of us have become pretty jaded by the whole thing.

And then someone will come along who makes the judges, the studio audience and the viewers at home really sit up and take notice.

And this year that person is nine-year-old Angelica Hale who is currently competing on this season of America's Got Talent.

In an episode which aired in the States last, Angelica took on Alicia Keyes' Girl On Fire, and absolutely owned it.

After watching Angelica earn the Golden Buzzer, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the pint-sized star's undeniable talent.

And we couldn't agree more.

Emma Watson has taken to social media to appeal to the public for help in locating three silver rings which she lost during a recent trip to a London spa.

The Harry Potter actress shared shots of the rings and explained that they are of enormous sentimental value.

"Reward for information leading to the return of rings lost Sunday 16th July at Mandarin Oriental Spa, London," she began the Facebook post which has been liked more than 38,000 times in mere hours.

"On Sunday afternoon I went for a treatment at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Spa in Hyde Park, London. Before my appointment I removed 3 silver rings from my fingers and put them in the safe inside the locker. When I left, I forgot to take my rings from the safe."

"When I got home I realised the rings were not on my hands and I called the spa, but at this time the spa was closed. Security checked the safe and said there was nothing in it but that the spa would be open again in the morning and they could speak to them then and see if they had them or if anyone had handed them in."

27-year-old Emma opened up about the story behind one of the rings in an effort to highlight their personal importance.

"As of now they are missing. Were these just any rings I could accept this, but one of the them was a gift from my Mum. She bought it the day after I was born and wore it for 18 years, never taking it off, and then gave it to me for my 18th birthday. I wear this ring everyday, it is my most meaningful and special possession."

Urging her fans and followers to spread the word, the much-loved actress insisted that she would be happy to move on and forget the incident if it meant the jewellery could be safely returned to her.

"If anyone was at the Mandarin Oriental Spa on Sunday from 3pm onwards and saw the rings or accidentally picked them up or knows anything about them, I cannot express how much it would mean if they came back to me – no questions asked. If you have seen them or have any information please email: findthering@outlook.com."

Fans and followers of the British actress have responded in their droves, with many recalling Emma speaking about her rings in the past.

"I remember you talking about this ring in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting Beauty and the Beast, you said that this ring inspired the pinky ring you wore in the film. I sincerely hope the rings are returned to you safe and sound," they wrote.

We're with them.

If you grew up among siblings who seemed intent on making your life a living hell, you'll know all too well the array of tricks they used to drive you up the effing wall.

From subtle digs to all-out war, most of us spent our childhoods looking over our shoulder, primed for the next attack.

And while the vast majority of us can laugh at their exploits now (and admit we were equally as guilty), at the time the anguish was oh-so-real.

And here are just 9 things they could do like no one else…

1. Hide the remote

We'll be honest, we spent more time as children wrestling our siblings on the sitting room floor for possession of the remote than actually watching TV.

And while carpet burns and gouged skin was hardly a walk in the park, realising your sibling had hidden the remote was a whole different level of torture.

"I'll set the house on fire if you don't tell me where it is."

2. Read your diary

The really devious wouldn't come right out and say they had gotten 12 weeks deep in your diary, but would instead drop hints that have you questioning their moral compass.

Instead of admitting they know the ins and outs of your 'private life', they would allude to random secrets during family meals in order to watch you squirm. And the worst part? You couldn't accuse them of reading your diary, because you'd end up ratting yourself out.

"So, I didn't get any detention this week. What about you?"

3. Repeat everything you said

If they tried it these days, we'd simply stick our headphones in our ears, question their sanity and immerse ourselves in Netflix, but as a child it was a lot harder to handle.

All they had to do was raise their voice slightly, adopt a super annoying tone, and repeat every sentence you said in order to reduce you to a red-faced, shrieking mess.

"Maaaaaaaam, tell him to stop imitating me!"

4. Make your friends laugh at you

This generally only worked if your sibling was older than you and your friends were out to impress, and hell did it hurt.

With just a little encouragement, your mates could be convinced to join in sibling-inspired name-calling or indulge in some mocking, and never did the betrayal run so deep.

"Did you know she still wets the bed at night?"

5. Scare the bejaysus out of you

At some point or another, it's likely you shared a bedroom with your sibling which meant that there were approximately eight unsupervised hours where they could terrify you to their heart's content.

From insisting they could see someone beneath your bed to planting seeds that there was someone lurking in the wardrobe, they knew how to make the most out of your discomfort.

"Now don't freak out, but I know that wardrobe door was closed when we turned off the lights…"

6. Force you into misbehaving

OK, it's not like we weren't able to do this one by ourselves, but there were occasions when we'd have opted for a quiet life and our siblings forced us into doing something which invariably ended in the outbreak of World War 3 in our family home.

Whether it was skipping mass with a sibling and getting caught or lamping a ball over a neighbour's wall 'for the craic', siblings got some kick out of seeing you take the fall.

"Look, there were two of us in it and you're as much to blame as I am."

7. Censor films and TV programmes… for the craic

Sometimes your siblings took on the role of surrogate parents and prevented you from watching things they didn't deem suitable which, in a way, was fair enough.

And then there were the times they simply decided you weren't watching something for no other reason than they said so.

"I know it's only The Simpsons, but you'll probably have nightmares."

8. Tell on you

Ratting you out to your parents was the ultimate betrayal… especially considering the fact you kept schtum about their most recent indiscretion.

Hearing your sins laid bare in front of your parents by a smug sibling totally justified the biggest revenge plot of all time.

"Keep talking, You'll get yours, you sly pig."

9. Excluding you

Your mam may have insisted your older sibling let you tag along with their friends, but the minute you mam was out of sight, you were shoved in a bush so fast your head would spin.

There you were skipping merrily alongside your new pals, and the next you were picking thorns out of your arse and wondering where the hell everyone had gone.

"Helloooo? I don't know how to get home!!"

Calling all Harry Potter fans!

Tickets for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets live concert tour are on sale now.

Earlier this year, thousands of Irish Harry Potter fans descended on Dublin's 3Arena for the orchestral extravaganza that was Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone live in concert.

Following the show's massive success, concert organisers announced that the second in the series – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, would hit venues around the UK and Ireland this December.

The live shows will feature a full live symphony orchestra, who will perform the score, note for note, as the film plays out on a massive 40-foot, high-definition screen.

The audience will be able to relive the magic of the Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, while hearing an unforgettable musical performance, composed by the Oscar wining, John Willliams.

Ollie Rosenblatt, Senbla CEO, said the response to the concerts so far was overwhelming.

''Since we first launched the Harry Potter in Concert Series, the response from both film and music fans has been phenomenal. The shows really are unforgettable and remind us why Harry Potter has touched so many of us. To see these seminal films with a huge orchestra is beyond enthralling.''

''We are delighted to bring the Chamber Of Secrets to audiences around the UK and Ireland and to continue this magical and immersive experience.''

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets live concert comes to Dublin's 3Arena on December 6, 2017.

Tickets are €76.00 and are available here.

The full collection is expected to drop sometime in September, but you can sign up for email updates in the meantime here.

Fancy a bit of glamour this weekend?

Grab the girls and join the Film Fatale crew in paying homage to 1950s for what promises to be Ireland's most glamorous film night.

Film Fatale Vintage Cinema returns to Dublin's Sugar Club, Saturday, July 22, with a screening of the superb All About Eve.

Joseph L Mankiewicz’s Oscar-winning drama has been hailed as one of the greatest films about Hollywood, women, acting, ageing and good old-fashioned rivalry – and now's your chance to see it all played out on the big screen.

In what is arguably one of Bette Davis' finest performances, we see her take on the role of Margo Channing – a hard-edge Broadway star whose personality and experience goes up against the wiles of a younger actress.

This will be the first in a series of classic screenings, so dig out your finest 1950s attire and prepare to immerse yourself in the world of detectives, scarlets, heroes and of course, femme fatales.

Experience all your favourite classic films in a vintage cinema decked with usherettes, original trailers and red carpets.

But that's not all.

Be sure to stick around for the Fabulous Fifties Party, with live performances and Film Fatale’s resident DJs, The Andrews Sisters’ Brothers playing music from the film’s era.

It all kicks off at 8.00pm and tickets (€17.00), are available here.

As the BBC prepare to publish the salaries of its top contributors, Director-General, Tony Hall, has warned that comparing pay “is not straightforward”.

For the first time, the broadcaster will reveal its talent list of 96 of the biggest earners – only one third of which are female.

“Is that where we want to be? No,” Hall told staff in an internal video message that has been distributed ahead of the release.

He stressed “the need to go further and faster on issues of gender and diversity,” but did say that company was “pushing….faster than any other major broadcaster”.

TV stars like Graham Norton, Gary Lineker and Fiona Bruce are all expected to have their salaries published, while leading journalists such as Andrew Marr and John Humphrys also expected to be on the list.

“You will of course draw your own conclusions …  But … comparing people’s pay is not straightforward,” Hall said.

“Very few do precisely the same thing – people working at the same show may have other – or different – commitments.”

Admitting that some salaries come in at over £150,000, Hall said “we need to employ the very best – stars, great presenters, writers, actors, correspondents.”

“We’re in a market that is now even more competitive than ever.  A decade ago it might have been just ITV or Sky or commercial radio.  But now it’s Netflix, Amazon or Apple.”

Hall has promised to have equality between the numbers of men and women appearing on air, and in the amount they are paid, by 2020.
