An earthquake has struck in South America, just off the coast of Chile, causing devastating effects.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit 7.7 magnitude and struck just 140 miles southwest of Puerto Montt today.

This has triggered a tsunami warning from the US Pacific Warning Centre, which could affect areas just over 600 miles of the earthquake's epicentre.

The Chilean Navy has also issued a tsunami alert.

People in the area are also being warned about after shocks they might face in the hours after the quake.

Such a terrible thing to happen on Christmas day.

Since Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth got back together, they've been very quiet on social media, and even struggle to answer general questions about their other half in interviews and on TV.

But it looks like that could soon be changing because this Christmas, they are totally living it up – and most importantly, are posting pictures on social media for all of us to see (score!).

A few days ago, Liam hopped into the Cyrus family picture, but now they're taking NUMEROUS selfies and we just love it so much.

They look SO happy together, and we hope they enjoy every festive season just as much as they enjoyed this one.

Kate, William and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte headed out to Christmas mass today, and the little ones were the picture of cuteness while doing so.

Holding onto their parents hands as they made their way to the church, George donned his usual outfit of shorts and long socks, while Charlotte wore a beautiful navy coat and burgundy tights.

The family all matched together as well, with Kate Middleton donning a gorgeous burgundy coat with a faux fur collar and William wore a navy coat with a burgundy tie.

Many on Twitter pointed out how George must have been freezing in his red shorts, but if you know toddlers, then you know there's no telling them what to wear… especially on Christmas.

The Queen couldn't make it to the Christmas ceremony today, as she is still suffering from a cold, but the rest of her family turned out in eloquent fashion.

We hope Santa brought George and Charlotte everything they wished for, and the Queen recovers quickly from her cold.

For the first time in 28 years, Queen Elizabeth will not be attending the traditional Christmas service in Sandringham.

Since 1988, the Queen and members of the Royal Family have celebrated Christmas at St Mary Magdalene Church, but the monarch’s ill health has left her unable to attend today’s service.

Releasing a statement to the press and public, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Queen, who turned 90 this year, has made the decision to opt out of the service in an effort to recover from a cold.

“The Queen continues to recover from a heavy cold and will stay indoors to assist with her recovery.”

“Her Majesty will participate in the Royal Family Christmas celebrations during the day.”

Various other members of the Royal Family will attend the service as usual.

In a move which has had YouTube in hysterics for days, a beauty vlogger handed the reins to her drunk boyfriend and allowed him to do the voiceover for her latest tutorial.

And we cannot cope.

Casey Holmes was the personification of professionalism as she walked her followers through her routine… with the help of a guy who sounds like us after a bottle (or two) of vino.

Commenting on the footage which has racked up a staggering 768,000 views in mere days, one YouTuber wrote: “DEAD! The most entertaining so far! "We all know what glitter does so let's move on. Make your eyes look FIERCE… yep"

“This is literally the best thing ever in the whole wide world,” added another.

Gardaí have appealed to the public to come forward with any information they may have pertaining to a stabbing incident in the capital last night.

According to emerging reports, a man in his 20s has been hospitalised after being attacked near Belvedere Road on the city’s north side at approximately 11pm.

It is understood the victim managed to make his way along the North Circular Road before emergency services were called in the vicinity of the Big Tree pub.

The individual was taken to the Mater hospital where his injuries are said to be not life-threatening.

The Gardaí Technical Unit is currently examining the scene and Gardaí have yet to make any arrests.

In a move which has hit everyone right in the feels, JK Rowling has shared a heartwarming message to fans and followers around the world today.

Offering words of comfort to anyone struggling over the festive period, the Harry Potter author encouraged her fans to think positively about their future.

In a series of tweets which have been re-tweeted thousands of times since their upload earlier today, J.K drew on her own experience before reminding her fans that bad times do pass.

Explaining that she has received countless greeting from fans, she wrote: “I’ve also heard from people who are going through tough times. These always seem worse at Christmas.”

“At this time of year, we’re bombarded with images of perfect lives, which bear little relation to reality as tinsel does to gold.”

“If you’re lucky enough to be with the people you love, warm and safe, with enough to eat, I’m sure you feel as blessed as I do.”

Continuing her message, she added: ”But if your life is currently full of difficulties, if you aren’t where you want to be, either literally or figuratively, remember that extraordinary transformations are possible. Everything changes. Nothing is forever.”

“Thinking back to my worst Christmas, I found it hard to believe that my unhappiness would pass, I was truly afraid of the future.”

“You never know what the future holds. Astonishing reversals of fortune happen every minute,” she wrote. “So if you’re sad or lonely or bereaved or ill or in any other way suffering this Christmas, I send you love and wish you luck and better times.”

Uploading the card she sent along with the foodie gift, Chrissy wrote: “Thank God Christmas falls on Soul Food Sunday.”

“Enjoy mashed potato iced, corn bread and yam-filled fried chicken topped cake of perfection. Love you guys!”

It is just us or is that cake pretty damn gross?!

A Russian jet carrying 92 passengers has crashed into the Black Sea. However, Russian senior officials believe it was not a terror attack.

The plane disappeared minutes after taking off over the Black Sea, which had departed at 5:40am local time from Adler, Sochi.

According to Sky News, a body has been found in the water.

There was 64 members of the Red Army Choir, who were heading to Syria to give a concert at a Russian air base there.

Nine members of the media were among the people on board.

Eight crew were also on the plane.

Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has died at the age of 68, after suffering from a severe infection.

According to Rick's manager, the musician was admitted to hospital in Spain on Thursday, and died this afternoon.

The guitarist fell ill due to complications with a pre-existing injury in his shoulder.

The family of the late musician released aa statement earlier today, where they said:

"We are truly devastated to have to announce that Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has passed away."

"He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, fellow band members, management, crew and his dedicated legion of fans from throughout the world, gained through 50 years of monumental success with Status Quo."

Rick is survived by his wife Lyndsay, and his four children Tommy, Lily, Rick Junior and Harry.

Another day, another bizarre makeup trend that we cannot help but adore.

The latest trend to hit our hashtags are ombré eyebrows, and they are extremely groovy.

Now of course, some of the ombré brows are not for the faint hearted, with some people using bold colours and bright hues.

HOWEVER, you can opt for a more subtle form of ombré eyebrows, using darker and lighter tones of brown, almost matching your natural brows.

Whatever way you look at it, you cannot deny that these brows are very cool!

Last night, a bunch of lads headed off down Camden street on their 12 pubs of Christmas night out.

A classic scene ensued, where two of the young men pretended to fight, without actually getting in any way violent we might add.

Anyway, after a few karate kicks, some interpretive dance and general flouncing, a spectator in a large black car slows down on the street.

The driver was none other then Conor McGregor, UFC champion and all round nice guy.

Conor starts shouting out the window "you'll do nothin", and needless to say the two lads lose their minds.

There were handshakes, fist pumps, and THANKFULLY a camera on site to capture the entire thing.

The absolute irony here is that one of the guys that were faux-fighting actually run a company called Human Centred Movement, which specialises in enhancing movement and strength.

The lads in HCM uploaded the video a few hours ago, and it has already been viewed over 14,000 times.

Talk about a Christmas miracle.
