Social media went into overdrive yesterday when Niall Horan was spotted carrying a hamper of pink baby items leading countless 1D fans to believe he was stocking up on presents for Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole's impending arrival.

But if Niall's latest Instagram post is anything to go by, it looks like Directioners have jumped the gun on this one.

Taking to social media late last night, Niall shared a snap of himself cradling director Ben Winston's newborn baby daughter… who we now assume is the proud owner of Niall's earlier purchase.

Got to meet little Ruby Winston today .. beautiful little girl . So happy for Ben and Meri . Love you

A photo posted by Niall Horan (@niallhoran) on

In the post which has amassed a staggering 1.2 million likes in just 15 hours, the Mullingar native wrote: "Got to meet little Ruby Winston today .. beautiful little girl. So happy for Ben and Meri. Love you."

Ben, who produced the lads' film This Is Us, has also directed a number of One Direction videos including Story of My Life and Best Song Ever.

Unsurprisingly, Directioners quickly rallied and after realising Niall hadn't dropped a major hint about Cheryl's baby wasted no time gushing over the snap.

"This picture killed me," wrote one while another added: "OMG damn cute and hot. I just love him, my love Niall."

Well, that's cleared that up.

Protein powder is usually associated with hard core bodybuilders and Instagram fitspo pages, but Elle Macpherson wants you to feed it to your kids.

The super model is launching her own range of smoothie powders just for children as part of her Welleco health supplements range.

According to Elle's website: "Protein is vital for brain development, organ function, muscle repair and a healthy immune system making it crucial for growth and development during childhood."

The powder is aimed at children with poor diets who are "fussy eaters" who just want "pasta and cheese."

"They have a diet high in carbs and sugar and not enough foods rich in protein, omega 3 and essential fatty acids, resulting in mood swings and poor concentration," says the site, which claims that the powder will help with kids concentration and improve their general health.

The site also advises that sugary treats could be traded out in favour of the €30 protein shakes.

While many of the supplement's ingredients are simple vegetable powders, vitamins, minerals and fruit based sweeteners, the last ingredient on the list is a pineapple derivative called bromelain.

"Don't give bromelain to a child. There are no studies to know if it's safe or not," advises the University of Maryland Medical Centre.

The Children's Hospital Nashville's advisory echoes this, saying: "Safety in young children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with liver or kidney disease has not been established."

Bromelain is known to have some potential side effects, such as diarrhoea and stomach and intestinal discomfort.

Bromelain may also cause allergic reactions, especially in people who have other allergies.

The powder has not received a positive reaction on social media.

"Children do not need protein shakes – they need real, whole foods in their every day diet! I worry that these kinds of messages set our kids up to believe that a lifetime of supplements is what they need to be healthy and it isn't" said one Facebook user.

"Just because you are genetically 'blessed' to fit into the cultural ideal of what a 'good and healthy' body looks like, does not mean you know anything about healthy eating or nutrition for kids. I've been working with kids for over 10 years and recall only 2 cases where I have recommended a protein powder."

"Your kids do not need this, this is purely celebrity influence used as marketing," said another.

Hangry – we’ve all been there right? That feeling that if we don’t have something to eat, and soon, we might not be responsible for our actions.

Of course one of the main places we’re in danger of a bout of hangriness is when we’re at home, waiting to be fed.

Note to self: always have some anti-hangry snacks to hand, just in case.

1. When your housemate makes an AMAZING dinner

All you’ve managed to cobble together is an unappetising salad, while your smug housemate is tucking into a roast dinner with all the trimmings. Your hangriness reaches new levels as you watch them bite into a golden, perfectly cooked roast potato. Look away!

2. When there’s nothing in the fridge

And we mean nothing, not even some eggs to whip up an impromptu omelette. Further panicked rooting reveals some wilted coriander, and yoghurt passed its sell-by date and a seen-better-days bulb of garlic. Argh!

3. When you have nothing sweet for after dinner

You’ve just finished your dinner and need something sweet to round it off. Suddenly you remember you had the last few squares of chocolate the night before. Shock! Horror! Hangriness!

4. When your dinner just won’t cook fast enough

You’re in the kitchen cooking dinner, but it seems to be taking forever and a day. Desperately, you stir-fry the chicken and veg with extra vigour, in the vain hope it’ll move things along a little quicker.

Top tip? Keep hangriness at bay with the new Carr’s Crinklys. These delish snacks are baked not fried, and are perfect for filling the gap between meals. A winner for your ‘hanger management’ cupboard.

5. When you make something – only to drop it

You’ve just waited patiently for a baked potato to cook (seriously, they take ages), only to splatter it on the kitchen floor when you're transferring it from the baking tray to your plate. NOOOO!

Luckily even the hangriest so-and-so can keep this phenomenon at bay with Carr’s Crinklys, the delish new savoury baked snacks from Carr's in Cheese & Onion, Salt & Vinegar and Bacon. A pack is just the right size to keep you ticking over, but won’t spoil your lunch or dinner – and they’re baked, so are way healthier than fried crisps. Yum!

Congratulations are in order this morning for rock legend Mick Jagger who has welcomed his eighth child.

According to the MailOnline, the Rolling Stones frontman’s 29-year-old girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick, gave birth yesterday, with the 73-year-old hopping on a private jet to be at her bedside.

"Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger's son was born today in New York and they are both delighted," a statement released by the couple read.

"Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect their privacy at this time."

The couple were said to have been  “surprised and happy” when they found out they were expecting, with a source saying the singer was not “fazed” by the thoughts of becoming a dad at 73.

"[Melanie’s] very bright, intelligent, sparkly and has her own ideas about how she wants to lead her life,” a source said at the time.

“She knows what a great relationship Mick has with all of his children and can't wait for him to be a dad again. They are taking the news in their stride.”

You only have to see Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum dance to know that their sex life is far from boring.

But for anyone who isn't convinced, the actress was more than happy to divulge the deets… and we were more than happy to hear them.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the 36-year-old star said: "I’ve always been a very sexual person. We definitely have a very happy and healthy sex life."

"Something about being a dancer connects you to your physical body. It’s primal, earthy, sexual energy by nature," she continued.

Elaborating on their approach to the no-pants-dance, Jenna added: " You feel your body in a certain way. Channing is very much the same way. He’s very in tune with that."

And she didn't stop there.

Reflecting on the night they decided to give things a go on the set of Step Up, Jenna recalled: "It was two nights of being weird. We hadn’t even kissed. And then he went out partying with a bunch of dancers."

"His room was right above mine, and he came down drunk with a sombrero on, banging on my door," he continued.

"He was like,“I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Let’s do this. I just want to be with you.” From that point forward, we were together," she finished.

And there you have it, ladies.

Do you groom your pubic hair daily or weekly? If so you are classed as a ‘high frequency’ groomer and new research has found you at a higher risk of catching an STI.

According to research published in the Sexually Transmitted Infections journal, ‘extreme groomers’ – those who groom up to 11 times per year –  are also at risk of acquiring STIs.

It's not all bad though! Luckily, groomers are less likely to have pubic lice – always a silver lining, right?!

However, while extreme groomers are more likely to get frisky, this ultimately increases their chances of getting an STI.

“By contrast, low intensity/ frequency grooming was associated with a doubling in risk of a lice infestation, suggesting that grooming might make it harder for lice to breed successfully,” researchers said.

During the study, over 14,000 people, aged 18-65 answered questions about their grooming habits, focusing on the intensity, frequency, and tools used.

With 74% of the respondents saying they had groomed their pubic hair before, men opted for electric razors, while women favoured the manual razor.

Divulging their sexual habits as part of the study, 7470 participants said they had at least one sexual partner.

The researchers surmised that the link between STIs and grooming could be based on the theory that increased grooming could lead to higher levels of sexual activity, which may result in skin lesions. Thus allowing bacteria and viruses into the body.

Lead author Dr. E Charles Osterberg said, “Intensity and frequency of grooming also seemed to be linked to the magnitude of risk.”

“Among high frequency and extreme groomers, the practice was associated with a 3.5 to 4- fold heightened risk, particularly for infections that arise through skin on skin contact, such as herpes and HPV.”

However, the observational study has not proved that grooming causes STIs, so “no firm conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect”.

“The researchers were not able to determine the timing of grooming relative to acquisition of infection, or account for either safer sex practices, or indeed risky sexual behaviours.”

So, don't bin the razors just yet.

If you spend much of December on the hunt for Selloptape after accidentally gouging holes in your fingers, you're not alone.

While the idea of wrapping presents by the Christmas tree appeals to us every year, the reality is always vastly different, and unless the item we're wrapping is a 4×4 box, we end up in a sweaty heap.

And as we've obviously been approaching the whole thing wrong for years, we're clearly open to suggestions on how to improve our wrapping experience.

Thankfully, we stumbled upon a video on YouTube which has been doing the rounds recently, and frankly it's a revelation.

One item, one piece of wrapping paper and 12 second later, hey presto!

Ladies, set your faces to stun.

According to Global News, facial features are like a rubix cube. You have plenty of possibilities, but at some point, the possibilities are going to run out.

Dopplegangers have been somewhat of a phenomenon over the past few years, and we love when we find a good oul celeb one.

Step forward Chloe Moretz' TWIN. A woman who works in a restaurant in the Philippines has gone viral since someone posted her photo to Twitter.

And we have to say, it is uncanny.

And Chloe herself even thinks they look really similar.

The woman is called Edcell Ched, who is currently studying in the City of Malabon University. Edcell rocks gorge brunette hair, so we suppose Chloe now knows that she can pull off the dark side too! The joys of having a doppleganger, huh?

2016 – Where do we start?

While it’s easy (oh-so easy) to dismiss the past 12 months as a sh*tshow from start to finish, it’s important to acknowledge that among Trump’s triumph and the Brexit blow-out, the past year has also given us some pretty amazing events.

From the Irish fans doing us proud at the Euros to Brianna Parkins speaking out at The Rose of Tralee, 2016 gave us A LOT to talk about on Facebook.

And oh, how we talked.

Today, Facebook released the most discussed moments in 2016, and it looks like Ireland was on much the same page as the rest of the world when it came to the moments which stopped us in our tracks.

Ireland:

  1. US Presidential Election
  2. Irish General Election
  3. Brexit
  4. Olympics
  5. UEFA Euro 2016
  6. David Bowie
  7. Easter Rising
  8. GAA All-Ireland Final 2016
  9. Rose of Tralee
  10. Six Nations Championship

Global:

  1. US Elections
  2. Brazilian Politics
  3. Pokemon Go
  4. Black Lives Matter
  5. Rodrigo Duterte
  6. Olympics
  7. Brexit
  8. Super Bowl
  9. David Bowie
  10. Muhammed Ali

"The range of topics in this year’s top ten shows the breadth of subjects discussed on Facebook, from elections to major sporting events and, of course, key moments on the Irish calendar like the All-Ireland finals," Head of Facebook Gareth Lambe said.

“It was a big year for politics and it is no surprise that the top three most talked-about topics were the Irish and US elections and Brexit.”

“During the summer, we had the Euros and Olympics – at which Ireland was well represented by both our athletes and supporters – with many stand-out moments captured on Facebook.”

And when not busy weighing in on global politics, we also found time to make the most of Facebook’s new feature, Facebook Live, which became available to everyone in April of this year.

From the Byrne Brothers dancing in Eyre Square to checking in with Mrs Brown’s Boys, our top four Facebook Live videos have been revealed, and we’re clearly a patriotic bunch.

Here are the top four…

1. The Byrne Brothers, Byrne Brothers Dancing in Eyre Square

2. TG4, Irish dancers in Inis

3. The Irish Sun, Ronan Keating duets with his daughter Ali

4. Mrs. Brown’s Boys TV Series, Mrs. Brown's Boys Live

Ah memories, but we’re looking forward to closing the door on 2016 all the same…
