Earlier this year, 47 celebrities were told by the Federal Trade Commission that they needed to maintain a higher level of transparency when it comes to who is paying for those #spon Instagram posts.

However, following on from this controversy, a new report has claimed that a massive 93 per cent of celebrity social endorsements from the past month actually violate FTC guidelines.

Any Instagram post that acts as an advertisement must feature #ad or #sponsored somewhere in the caption that is plain to see – i.e not at the very end so that Instagram cuts it off.

The FTC also insist that tagging the brand or company that has paid for the post does not count as proper disclosure.

According to Cosmopolitan, the study, carried out by MediaKix, looked at Instagram's top 50 celebrity and influencer accounts and found that just 7 per cent of 2,200 posts were with compliant FTC regulations.

Instagrammers who are involved in long-term partnerships with brands are also expected to abide by the same rules.

Many of the celebs who were originally contacted by the FTC have since deleted the posts in question, however, as a result of the controversy, Instagram will now add a new “paid partnership with” sub-header (much like the example above) to sponsored post and stories in order to avoid any further confusion.

Newly appointed Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, has announced that an abortion referendum will take place next year.

He said that the Health Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, will be responsible for bringing forward the legislation which will allow for a referendum on the eight amendment.

This comes after the United Nations Human Rights Committee ruled for a second time on Tuesday that Ireland's abortion laws violate women's human rights.

Simon Harris said that a report is being put together by his team at the moment and a formal submission will be made sometime soon.

Finally, a step in the right direction.

In 2015, One Direction fans all over the world were left heartbroken after the band announced they were taking a hiatus.

Since then the boys have been busy carving out some pretty successful solo careers and our very own Niall Horan is no exception.

With hits like This Town and Slow Hands racing to the top of the charts, the Mullingar-native has proved that there is light at the end of the 1D tunnel.

The singer recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he helped the host create some impromptu musical numbers in a round of the Instant Song Challenge, and as expected, the results were hilarious.

With Niall on guitar and Jimmy on keyboard, the pair composed a whole host of hilarious, on-the-spot songs, inspired by random titles sent in by viewers.

The first was a rock anthem called Witness to Fitness followed closely by an old-fashioned country tune – Quickly Clicky Pens.

Struggling to hold in the laughs, the duo finished off their set with a stellar performance of a soft-rock ballad called Stepping on Toes.

Check out the full video below.

We reckon there's a spot ready and waiting for Jimmy if One Direction ever do decide to give it another go.

The engagement ring has barely been placed on your finger, and you're already being forced to consider neighbourhood politics, your mother's desire to invite relatives you've never met and your granny's reaction to a Humanist ceremony.

Congratulations, you've just gotten engaged in Ireland.

Tapping into the drama that generally accompanies an engagement announcement around these parts, Foil Arms and Hog have uploaded a video that, if we're honest, reads like a transcript of every post-engagement conversation that has ever taken place in our homes.

A cancer specialist at the University of Leicester has spoken out against a 'treatment' which involves the insertion of a cannula containing ozone gas into the vagina.

The procedure, which has been endorsed by alternative medicine business, Medical Wellness Associates in the United States, is said to benefit pelvic and labia pain while also aiding yeast, bacterial and viral infection.

According to the MWA, ozone gas is pumped into the vagina and purports to have anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal effects on unhealthy cells.

However, not everyone is convinced by the treatment, with Professor Martin Dyer questioning the validity of the claims that the gas can treat various vaginal infections, and potentially cure cancer.

"Ozone is one of the most powerful oxidising agents known to man, and people have been looking to exploit this very powerful antioxidant action right since its discovery. But it's never amounted to anything," he said.

"As with all charlatanism, it gives the claim that it cures everything," he added.

According to The Independent, the FDA have echoed Professor Dyer's stance on the matter, asserting that ozone is a “toxic gas with no known useful medical application.”

So, just a few short hours after playing a headline set at Malahide Castel last , Arcade Fire performed a secret gig in Whelan's.

Shortly after the gig finished, Win Butler, the band's lead vocalist, took to Twitter to inform fans of a “Dance party at Whelan's.”

As the Canadian alt-rockers took to the stage, the Dublin venue was flooded with fans looking to take their place in the small crowd.

Those who were lucky enough to get a spot in the audience were treated to a short acoustic set before Win took his place behind the DJ decks for an after party.

Photos and videos of the impromptu gig have been popping up all over Twitter, leaving many fans disappointed they missed the change to see the band in such an intimate setting.

And honestly, we don't blame them. It looked absolutely amazing.

If Hollywood is to be believed, carbohydrates are the devil of the food pyramid.

And while the vast majority of nutritionists are at pains to stress the importance of a balanced diet (one which includes carbs), many of us still eye the bread aisle with an air of suspicion.

However, it appears a group of researchers from Lubeck University in Germany have discovered a wonderful reason to load up on carbohydrates at breakfast, and if you're of an indecisive nature, you may want to listen up.

According to their findings, individuals who eat a carb-rich breakfast are more likely to make good decisions in comparison to those who opt for a protein-based breakfast.

After recruiting participants, researchers made note of the breakfast they had consumed that day, and then asked them to take part in a computer game called Ultimatum.

Ultimatum allows players to offer fellow players a part share of their money, however the individual offering the cash will always end up with more than the intended recipient.

Players offered the deal could either accept the unfair amount and keep the money or reject it and receive nothing, and researchers soon established that those who ate a carb-rich breakfast were more likely to reject the unfair offer.

In fact, 53 per cent of the high carb breakfast group rejected the unfair offer compared to just 24 of the participants who ate otherwise.

Speaking of the study, which was published in the journal of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers said: "Our results shed new light on the striking relevance of food intake."

Investigating the hypothesis further still, researchers then provided participants with a controlled breakfast.

One breakfast contained 80 per cent carbs, 10 per cent fats and 10 per cent protein while the second contained 50 per cent carbs and 25 per cent of fats and protein. Both breakfast came in at 850 calories each.

Researchers again confirmed that those who were provided with the carb-heavy breakfast made better decisions, with 69 per cent declining the poor offer in Ultimatum in comparison to 60 per cent in the other group.

“This opens new perspectives on problems, such as antisocial behaviour as well as the global problem of poor nutrition. The latter may not only have negative consequences on physical health but also on social decisions," researchers concluded.

“With that background, popular diets – as for example low-carb diets – might be treated with caution."

There is nothing more sickening than missing out on tickets to see your favourite musician.

For a few very jammy Liam Gallagher fans, their icon himself rectified the matter.

The esteemed musician bumped into some young fans on the street in Dublin, and when he found out that they had missed out on tickets to his gig, he made an extremely sound gesture.

A post shared by Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) on

The former Oasis frontman added all of the young fans to the guestlist for his show, along with a few plus ones.

Best of all? The whole thing was caught on video so we can live vicariously through the jamminess of these young fellas.

'Unfortunately Liam we couldn't get tickets to your show, said one.

Liam then jotted down all of their names so they could attend, and no we're not seething with jealousy, you are.

Rental prices have increased across Ireland, with prices now exceeding their previous peak during the Celtic Tiger.

The latest Residential Tenancies Board Rent Index shows that rents nationally rose by 7.37 per cent in the last year.

The Index shows that while rent prices are still rising, they are doing so at a slower pace than before.

Costs rose by 0.1 per cent last quarter, compared to 2.8 per cent the quarter before

The data also shows that rent prices in Dublin have decreased slightly.

Rents in the capital fell by 1.5 per cent, which is reported to be driven by the reducing costs of rental apartments.

The average standardised national rent price is now €987.00 per month, according to the Index.

This is down from last month's data of an average prices of €1131.00, according to data collected by Daft.ie

Stop. Everything.

If you've ever fancied something a little stronger than your tall skinny-latte, listen up.

Starbucks have just announce plans to open their largest branch to date, housing a coffee-roasting area, retail spaces, a Princi bakery, and wait for it – a mezzanine bar serving beer, wine and spirits.

The 20,000-square-floor store is set to open on New York's Ninth Avenue and is said to be modelled after the original Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle.

The news comes from a Starbucks attorney, Jonathan Bing, who presented the news to Manhattan’s Business Licenses and Permits committee on Wednesday.

The company have also announced plans to recruit local artists to perform at the venue.

There's no word yet on whether Starbucks' new boozy menu will hit Irish shores anytime soon, but we can't imagine we'll have to wait too long.

We are the inventors of the boozy coffee after all.
