As Germany celebrates their decision to legalise same-sex marriage, Russia is offering its gay community a one-way ticket out of the country on account of their sexuality.

According to recent reports, a Russian religious television channel is encouraging gay people to leave Russia and not return.

While appearing on Tsargrad TV, Russian television presenter, Andrei Afanasyev, made comments which are in keeping with the homophobic attitude prevalent in Russia.

"Just recently, California – the most liberal state in the USA by the way – proposed to facilitate the granting of green cards to Russian perverts," Andrei said.

"The staff of Tsargrad TV support this initiative," he told viewers of the Christian Orthodox-based channel.

"Moreover, we are ready to pay for a one-way ticket to anyone who plans to emigrate in complete earnest, and can provide a medical certificate proving that they are sodomites or have other forms of perversion."

"We really want you to move there, where you can openly submit to your sins." he added.

The footage was posted to Facebook in recent days, with one social media user commenting: "I'd like to give this lowlife a one-way ticket to go back to the Middle Ages."

We all sneeze, but sometimes it's just the wrong place, wrong time.

On the Luas, during a date, in front of your boss at a very important meeting… there's nothing more awkward that letting an almighty sneeze escape.

But have you ever thought about what happens when you hold it in?

Well, Digg spoke to an otolaryngologist (a physician for ear, nose and throat disorders, FYI) and it turns out that while it won't cause you any serious harm, it's not exactly advisable.

Dr Dale Tylor told the website: "There can be a risk of injury if there is a violent sneeze, with air pushing into the region of the orbit or brain.

"You can get small gaps in the bone separating the nose and eyes or nose and brain."

That doesn't sound too pleasant, but Dr Dale assures these "will heal on their own."

And as for your eyeballs popping out? Well, it's actually more likely for your ear drums to rupture.

Still, the doc says that it's a "very, very uncommon" thing to happen.

With all this information we might think again before holding a sneeze in (*imagines nose separating from brain*).

Be honest; Coláiste Lurgan has probably done more for your appreciation of the Irish language in recent years than you ever thought possible.

With their uber-enthusiastic versions of the summer's biggest hits, the students of the nation's most famous Gaeltacht have most of us longing to join them… even if we are about a decade too old.

And that's why we'll be glued to our screens the moment their reality TV show hits this winter.

The series, which will air on TG4 in December, will follow the nation's youngsters as they enrol in the three-week course in Co Galway.

Explaining the behind-the-scenes process when it comes to choosing their summer stompers, Stiofán Ó Fearaíl, from the Colaiste Lurgan Music Department, said that it was a relatively informal process.

"We bring in a load of people and we have everyone singing along and we just know when the people stand out to us. We see if they’re interested."

“We usually hear it from the múinteoirí that ‘this guy here wants to do something,’ it’s an informal process more than anything else,” he added.

Anyone else only dying to tune in?

Listen, it's not the most pleasant of conversations, but should we really be embarrassed to talk about what's going on down in our private department?

A recent survey conducted by Bayer found that 69 per cent of women are embarrassed to talk about their intimate health with a GP or pharmacists, and 18 per cent of women won't even talk about it with a close friend or sister.

To further that, 11 per cent don't talk about their intimate health to anyone at all.

The survey, of over 1,000 Irish women, was carried out as part of the #BeVConfident campaign, which aims to lift the taboo surrounding women's intimate health and common conditions, such as thrush and bacterial vaginosis.

And it's clearly needed, because 96 per cent of respondents are crying out for more education for girls at a young age.

The age at which Irish women learned about intimate health varies dramatically, with 9 per cent of women only learning about intimate health when aged 18 or older. This compares to one third of women who learned about it between the ages of 10 and 12.

When asked to rate their female health education, responses varied widely from poor (15 per cent), excellent (17 per cent), very good (33 per cent ), good (31 per cent) and non-existent (3 per cent).

The survey also found that one-third of women “tend to self-diagnose using google”, and 13 per cent of women surveyed “wait until symptoms disappear” when experiencing intimate health problems

However, it seems like our Irish mammies know best, with 55 per cent of females being educated about these issues by their mothers.

That wasn't the only source of knowledge though, as 52 per cent of women received education at school, while 30 per cent learned about female health issues online or in magazines.

And while we love to go shopping for magazines, we're not too keen when it comes to buying female health treatments in the pharmacy.

45 per cent of women are embarrassed to buy vaginal treatments, which we can understand, but what really struck us was that some women are still embarrassed to buy sanitary towels and tampons.

Even though the number is low, 11 per cent of respondents are embarrassed when buying sanitary towels, and 9 per cent are embarrassed buying tampons.

Yes, we rather be buying Gucci loafers, but unlike the glorious footwear, every woman needs female sanitary products.

Another striking revelation is how many women said their reason for not feeling confident is their appearance, which came in at 68 per cent.

Other reasons for not feeling confident include, workplace performance (8 per cent), family background (8 per cent) and relationship status (6 per cent).

38 per cent described themselves as confident "sometimes, but not often."

We feel like everyone needs to hop on the #BeVConfident campaign, because every woman has to go through these issues.

Be open and educated, but more importantly, be confident. You got this, girl.

Kate Middleton completely stole the show at Wimbledon this week when she debuted a brand new do.

Gone are the lengthy brunette tresses, and in their place is a stylish, lighter summer hair style.

A post shared by Ascari Salons (@ascari.salons) on

The stunning Duchess is giving us all kinds of hair inspiration to see out the summer, and her shorter but not quite lob-length hair is low-maintenance perfection.

While it's definitely not a dramatic change, the slightly lighter look adds a summery edge to her tresses.

The shorter, but still versatile, length makes this look perfect for those who like the option of still having enough length to play around with different styles, without the mega-maintenance of Rapunzel locks.

A post shared by Move Notícias (@movenoticias) on

If you're heading to the hairdressers, picture of Kate in hand, make sure you ask for a long bob with an inch or two of extra length, cut with minimal layering for a full-bodied result.

As for brunettes looking to add a sun-kissed touch to their hair, request some very subtle, sparse highlights, with most centred around the front of the face.

If you want to channel Kate's hair style at home, grab the straighteners or curling iron and create around four big, loose curls in the hair, directing the curl spiral away from the face.

Make sure you use a heat protection spray ahead of hear styling, and then separate the loose curls even more with your fingers.

Finish with a spritz of hair spray for the ideal curly blow dry look, just like Kate's.

There are very few women out there who wouldn't claim that their menstrual cycle affects them physically, mentally and emotionally.

From cramps and exhaustion to mood swings and tearful episodes, the arrival of our period often signals a change in how we feel.

For many of us, our period appears to impact our cognitive function, with many women asserting that they experience a dip in concentrations levels during this time of the month.

"As a specialist in reproductive medicine and a psychotherapist, I deal with many women who have the impression that the menstrual cycle influences their well-being and cognitive performance,"  confirmed Professor Brigitte Leeners of the Medical School in Hannover and University Hospital in Zürich.

In order to investigate the claims, Professor Leeners and a team of researchers recruited 68 women to undergo monitoring of three selected cognitive processes at different stages in the menstrual cycle.

The study, which was published in the Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, established that the varying levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone which are produced during the menstrual cycle have no impact on memory or concentration.

Studying women over the course of two menstrual cycles, the researchers noted that while some changed occurred in the first cycle, they were not repeated in the second cycle, and the performance of each individual woman did not change.

Confirming the findings, Professor Leeners asserted: "The hormonal changes related to the menstrual cycle do not show any association with cognitive performance."

Offering an explanation to women who do experience cognitive disfunction during their period, Professor Leeners said: "Although there might be individual exceptions, women's cognitive performance is in general not disturbed by hormonal changes occurring with the menstrual cycle."

10 reasons and occasions to send flowers

Sending flowers is probably the smallest gesture that can mean a thousand words. It is the smallest act of giving that can lift someone up when facing a difficult situation, bring smiles, and make someone feel loved and valued. When you can’t find your words to express yourself, a bouquet of flowers is the best way to show what you are feeling or thinking. A fresh bouquet of flowers can trigger a multitude of emotions depending on the reason, the receiver, and the person who has sent it. Flowers are usually appropriate picks as gifts for any occasion, even when you don’t have a reason to send them. Here are the 10 reasons and occasions to send flowers to your someone you love:

Show your love

Whether you are sending them to your spouse, your parent, or your best friend, flowers are the perfect way to express your love for that someone. Despite what you may think that flowers are only for your significant other or for your mother, they can express love to anyone who receives them. It is the most cost-effective and beautiful way to show your love and appreciation.

Show condolences

Unfortunately, bad things happen throughout our lives and sometimes we lose the people we love. The loss of someone loved can leave a deep hole in our souls and an imaginable sadness.  Thus, it is important to feel the support of our loved ones when going through such difficult moments. If you want to show your condolences and your support to someone going through a loss, the right bouquet of flowers can express your emotions without any words needed. Flowers such as gladioli, roses, white lilies, chrysanthemums are usually used in floral arrangements for funerals.

Birthdays and anniversaries

Have you been invited to a birthday party and have no idea what present to buy? Or maybe your spouse is working on her birthday and feels like nothing special is happening to celebrate it. The sweet fragrance of a floral arrangement can certainly make them feel special on their birthday.  Also, if you have lacked the time to buy a present for your significant other on your relationship’s anniversary, sending a bouquet of red roses or her favorite flowers will definitely save the day.

To apologize

Mistaking is part of being a human being. Sometimes we unintentionally hurt or let down the people we love and we feel bad for hurting their feelings or betraying their trust. Although, mistakes can happen, what matters is how you try to make things right and ask for forgiveness. Flowers can also express your regret when given to the person you did wrong. They can show that you feel sorry for your mistake and want to make things right. If you find it hard to say “I’m sorry” to someone you hurt, send them a bouquet of their favorite flowers and they will understand that you regret your words or actions.

A daily reminder of you

Sometimes you don’t have to wait for a special reason to send flowers to the important women in your life. Perhaps you have seen your spouse feeling sad or your mother may be feeling lonely because you were too busy to visit her. Search for flower delivery services and send them flowers right away to put a smile on their faces.

Mother’s Day

All mothers are heroines that deserve the best for the commitment and efforts they have put in raising their children.  On Mother’s Day, they need to get back all the love they have offered from day one and feel valued for all the sleepless nights they had and efforts they have made when their children were little. A floral arrangement with her favorite flowers received on Mother’s Day can lighten her day and show your appreciation and love.

Valentine’s Day

You don’t need to wait for a certain day to send flowers to your spouse, you can do that every day of your relationship if you want her to feel all the love you have. However, on Valentine’s Day, you simply can’t forget about sending a bouquet of red roses and a box of her favorite chocolates.

To congratulate someone for an achievement

Did one of your friends or family members just get the dream job they have been wishing for a long time? Or did they passed a difficult exam they were stressing about? You probably couldn’t be any happier for their achievement. Thus, sending flowers is one of the best ways to show your happiness for their success and to congratulate them.

To spoil yourself

There is nothing wrong with doing small gestures for ourselves. In fact, it is important to love yourself and make things that make you feel good. Thus, if you want to decorate and brighten your home with a bouquet of fresh flowers, nothing should stop you. Buying flowers for yourself can make you feel spoiled and cheer you up when feeling down.

As a random act of kindness

A random act of kindness can totally change the course of the day of a stranger. Sometimes it can be a smile, a little money given to a person that was less lucky than you, or a door held for the person coming in after you. Yet, if you are really committed to sharing kindness and smiles in our world, you can always do it with flowers. Flowers can be the symbol of peace and happiness and by offering them to a stranger on the street looking sad, you can trigger a circle of other random acts of kindness in the world.

Everybody loves to receive flowers because they are a classy, beautiful, and meaningful gift. There are many reasons and occasions to send a floral arrangement to someone, but sometimes the only reason you need is to make that person smile.

Be honest; how many times have you attributed a celebrity or influencer's physique to the amount of money they earn?

As much and all as we might long for what we consider the 'perfect body', the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of us have convinced ourselves that we simply can't afford it.

Between the cost of gym memberships and personal training sessions, in addition to the price of 'clean-eating', a large number of us fear our body goals are essentially out of reach because our disposable income does not equate with that of the people we follow on Instagram.

And that's where cut-price exercise methods come in. Ladies, behold the humble skipping rope.

1. It's cheap as chips

Unlike gym packages which can set you back a bundle, a skipping rope  – even the best quality – will hardly break the bank.

Most highstreet sport shops will carry a range of skipping ropes, and right now we're loving the Nike High Intensity Speed Rope in pink.

2. It burns calories

Skipping is a super easy way to burn fat. According to fitness experts, 10 minutes of skipping can burn up to 125 calories.

And further to that, the British Rope Skipping Association has stated that those 10 minutes actually have the same health benefits as a 45-minute run.

There is a reason why athletes rely so heavily on skipping during their training sessions, and if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us.

3. It improves muscle tone

From your glutes and hamstrings to your abs and forearms, there are very few muscle groups that a skipping session won't work.

Most of us associate skipping with our legs (for obvious reasons), but as skipping relies so much on balance, the individual will ultimately work their chest, core and back in each skipping session.

Who doesn't want a toned core without resorting to a mammoth sit-up session?

4. It improves skin tone

Skipping provides you with a full-body work-out, and as we all know, a full-body work out will get the blood pumping around the body in no time.

Good circulation ultimate rids the body of toxins and provides the skin with much-needed nutrients.

So not only are you working your joints and muscles, you're doing wonders for your skintone every time you pick up that rope.

5. It's a full-body workout

When you think about it, there are few parts of your body that aren't in motion when you skip.

Your feet and legs are constantly bouncing up and down, your arms are in motion as you swing the rope for your next jump, and your core is engaged as a result of your need to stay upright and on-balance.

And it doesn't stop there. Skipping also helps you become more agile and coordinated which goes a long, long way to improving your overall fitness levels.

There are more than a few ways to spruce up a small living space without spending an absolute fortune.

With homeware trends constantly changing, there are a few cheap, temporary home decor methods to ensure your home looks beautiful whatever the season.

Here are a few tips on adding character to a room without breaking the bank.

Fierce frames

Pictures make such a difference to your home – giving each space bags of personality and a homely feel.

You can get a set of cheap picture frames from Dealz, Penneys or your local charity shop, and add in your own personal photos for a touch of nostalgia.

Window-lust

We all long for floor-to-ceiling windows flooding our little apartments with light, but unfortunately that’s not always the case.

Provide yourself with your own preferred view with a large-scale canvas picture of some gorge scenery. It will brighten up your home while providing a gorgeous view.

The best option for window decoration is to have none at all as it creates more light, but obviously in your bedroom you might want curtains, so go for short bright eyelet curtains and ALWAYS keep them open during the day.

Plant life

Plants make any home look a little more lively, plus they look amazing in the background of Instagram photos.

Try some low maintenance cacti on your windowsill or go all out with a potted corner plant.

Just don’t forget to water them!

Upgrade with trim

Adding a trim will liven up otherwise ordinary upholstery around your home, especially if you’re in a rental where permanent interior edits are frowned upon.

Go for pom poms on lampshades or even add velvet ribbons to your decorative mason jars.

You can also try creating your own coasters from fabric if you’re feeling crafty.

Pull it together

Pull your room together with affordable accessories you pick up along the way, as there is no need to buy new things if you already have home accessories to work with.

Charity shops and car boot sales are great places for bargains, or add bits and bobs from your travels.

Got a burned out candle? Re-purpose the jar as a jewellry holder or vase.

Jazz up a shower curtain

Ever stepped into the shower of your rental accommodation and wondered ‘what the hell is that on the shower curtain?’

Rather than living in fear that your shower curtain is slowing moulding away, pick up a cheap and cheerful printed curtain to add new life to a tired bathroom .

Spruce up your artwork

Spruce up a humble piece of art with oversize matting and framing.

Consider investing in original artwork by local up-and-comers and find out when art colleges are having student showings of original works at affordable prices.

Look around

Take the time to see what’s out there. Refinish pieces you find in second hand shops, adding your own creative ideas to them.

If you’re handy with the power tools, acquire a piece of marble, glass or granite, cut it down to size and put it on top of a dresser or end table.

The piece you buy will become an original all over again.

The cost of living in Ireland has increased from €11.50 in 2016, to €11.70 in 2017.

Yes, we know 20 cents doesn't seem like the biggest amount of money, but when you add it all up, you're looking at a cost of nearly €500 a week to live in the country.

The Living Wage Technical Group conducted the research into the changes of cost of living, and determined that the housing crisis, increased rent levels and changes in taxation are all to blame.

However, the LWTG noted that the cost of clothing, household goods, food and health insurance have all decreased in the last year.

The paper read: "In principle, a living wage is intended to establish an hourly wage rate that should provide employees with sufficient income to achieve an agreed acceptable minimum standard of living.

"Earnings below the living wage suggest employees are forced to so without certain essentials so they can make ends meet.

Here's the outline of the cost of living in Ireland:
