Ariana Grande has officially become the first honorary citizen of Manchester.

The honour was bestowed on the 23-year-old following the One Lover Manchester concert which raised funds for the victims of the May 22 terror attack.

At an emotional meeting today, councillors voted unanimously to award the distinction in an effort to recognise the singer's involvment in the star-studded fundraiser which raised over £3 million for the victims and their families.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people, including seven children, when he detonated a device as people began leaving Ariana's show at the Manchester Arena earlier this year.

Just two weeks later, Ariana returned to the city for the One Love Manchester benefit concert which saw the likes of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, and Manchester's own Liam Gallagher, take to the stage in tribute to the victims.

As well as that, Ariana and her mother, Joan, visited a some of the victims in hospitals around Manchester.

Manchester City Council leader, Sir Richard Leese, said Ariana had “exemplified” the “resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear”

"As well as honouring the victims and all those affected, it is important that we remember the extraordinary acts of courage and generosity of spirit which we have witnessed.

"The worst of times have in many ways brought out the best in the city."

Councillor Sue Murphy, who seconded the motion, also revealed plans for a permanent memorial dedicated the victims in the city.

Honorary citizenship is the highest honour a city can give apart from the freedom of the city, which has only been awarded four times since 2000.

Giant pandas could be on the brink of extinction, despite what conservationists claim.

According to a new study in the journal Ecological Modelling, scientists from Beijing Forestry University, found that panda habitats have become so fragmented that there is a "very high" chance of extinction.

The International Union of Conservation of Nature recently claimed that pandas were no longer officially "endangered," but rather, more "vulnerable" to extinction.

The IUCN also changed the animal's level to "high risk", as opposed to "very high" as stated previously.

The study found that only 55 per cent of panda groups have less than ten members, and only 33 per cent had more than 30 – this is seen as the minimum number to ensure the population's survival.

The research paper read: “We cannot just focus on the overall number of wild pandas and the total area of habitat, ignoring habitat fragmentation and population isolation.

“The giant panda survival crisis is complicated because of the co-existence of protection and interference.

“Habitat fragmentation and human disturbance were the most important factors that negatively affected ecosystem stability and increased the survival risk of pandas.

"Thus, panda survival crisis remains serious,” the paper added.

Meet Lara – a Brazilian rescue dog whose soul is too pure for this world.

It seems the eight-month-old pup is a true believer in 'what goes around comes around' and is using her new found home to help dogs less fortunate than her.

See, Lana was rescued from the streets of Brazil by her now owner, Suelen Shaumloeffel, but she obviously hasn't forgotten where she came from.

In a true act of kindness, the rescue pup dragged her new blanket out to share with a stray dog who had been sleeping on the streets on a cold night.

Suelen had recently bought a thicker blanket for Lana to snuggle up in as the temperatures in the region has dropped.

But little did she know, Lana was actually using her blanket to make sure her new pal had a comfortable place to sleep.

As soon as Sue discovered what was going on, she began to leave food and water out for the stray, even though it would always run when she tried to approach.

Speaking to The Dodo, she said: “I thought, 'How beautiful that she did that for her friend'.”

"My best four-legged friend reminded me of something so important: generosity!"

"She is the nicest little dog I’ve ever met. We forget sometimes the difference we can make in someone’s life. She reminded me of this."

We're not crying – we are absolutely BAWLING.

When fitness vlogger, Karli Jaeckel, set about creating her latest workout video for Instagram, she didn't anticipate it would be interrupted by the sound of her husband's head and back ricocheting off the kitchen units.

But that's exactly what happened when Karli's husband decided to photobomb his wife's workout vid… and failed.

Creeping around in the background of the vid, Karli's husband attempted to shimmy between the cupboards and the kitchen counter before abruptly regretting his decision.

And while Karli rushed to her husband's aid after the sickening thud caused her to turn around, that didn't stop her uploading the footage to get her own back on his attempted photobomb.

"When your husband attempts a sweet move to photo bomb your workout video, and it totally backfires," she wrote in a post which has been viewed more than 26,000 times since its upload.

Ooof, we can actually feel that one from here.

So, it's kind of a running joke that no one in Ireland can take a compliment.

"Thanks hun, Penneys" and "Eh? Says you" are our go-to responses when anyone dares try to flatter us, usually followed by a self-deprecating comment for good measure.

However, when it comes to social media bragging, us Irish are a cut above the rest.

TK Maxx and Baz Ashmawy have lifted the veil on Ireland's social media bragging habits and the result are pretty interesting.

Research revealed that almost two-thirds of Irish adults use social media as a medium to showcase and celebrate achievements, life events, holidays adventures and even their bargain fashion finds.

In total, 62 per cent of Irish people admitted they had bragged on social media, with 42 per cent doing so in the last three months.

What's more, 11 per cent even admitted to boasting on a weekly basis.

When it come to the way we brag, 77 per cent of those surveyed said they saw social media as an opportunity to celebrate, while less then a quarter (23 per cent) said they bragged to earn validation.

So, what are Irish people most likely to brag about?

In at number one is holidays with 49 per cent.

Next we have pets and/or children (44 per cent), followed closely by major life events such as birthdays and engagements (40 per cent).

Women are more likely to engage in online bragging with 70 per cent admitting they had done so in the past, compared to just 55 per cent of men.

Unsurprisingly, Conor McGregor tops the list of the ultimate Irish braggers. A title he has proved worthy of time and time again.

Speaking on the research results, TV and radio broadcaster, Baz Ashmawy commented, “I think it’s great to see a new confident generation of Irish emerging, proudly sharing and celebrating their successes.”

"If you’ve invested in something or put in the hard yards towards an achievement, be it a holiday or even finding a designer handbag for less at TK Maxx, why not own it and tell the world?"

According to social media analyst Stephen O’Leary from Olytico, Ireland’s leading online and social media analytics company, online platforms allow Irish people to share their achievements like never before.

“Irish people are known for their self-deprecation, but with the rise of social media, we are increasingly balancing this false modesty by actively updating friends and followers every day with things that we are proud of.

Olytico also conducted their own research into the top five phrases used to line up social media bragging:

  1. Delighted to announce

  2. Humbled

  3. #NoFilter

  4. Best concert/gig ever

  5. Best holiday ever

No surprises there.

Confession: I have never been to a festival before.

I know, I know… total shocker.

Back in the day (OK, around eight years ago), Oxegen was the place to be.

My friends in school all got tickets for Christmas or birthdays – but because I was the baby of the class, my mother wouldn't allow me to go (you're still not forgiven, mam).

And the year I turned 18? Oxegen was cancelled.

Throughout the years, I've looked out for other festivals to go to, but if I'm honest, none of them really took my fancy.

I feel like I am the only twenty-something in Ireland to never have experienced the festival scene… but now, I'm popping my festival cherry.

This weekend, I will head along to Longitude, and I'm both excited and a little bit nervous.

Nervous, because I really don't know what to expect.

How will the day begin and end? How much money will I have to bring? How will I get home? What if I lose my friends?

A post shared by Longitude Festival (@longitudefest) on

But even with those thoughts gathering at the back of my mind, the thoughts of excitement are bursting free.

So far, my mates have planned out the day pretty well; pre-drinks and glam time at 12.30pm, grab a taxi at 2.30pm, arrive and check out the performers at 4pm… and then party 'til our hearts' content until 2am (or until my body gives up on me).

The day sounds like a total dream, but the three things I'm really looking forward to the most are music, fashion and friends.

The music – obviously, festivals are centred around music, and the acts I'm most looking forward to seeing at Longitude is The Weeknd (obvs), Mumford & Sons, Mac Miller, All Tvvins, Skepta, Villagers and Jack Garratt.

Apparently, I've set my hopes too high and won't get to see all of the bands I want to see… but I'm determined to prove my mates wrong. How hard can it be?

The fashion – when I walk by people on the street I look out for cool style and daring fashion choices, and this is going to be no different.

One thing I need to remember though; it's not Coachella… I will not see Givenchy kimonos and Lavin dresses… but I still want to see the most extra style Longitude has to offer.

The craic – music and fashion are two of my great loves, but there's nothing better than chilling and catching up with good friends.

I'm also very intrigued to try out Heineken's new Live Your Music rooms, which allow you to control the sounds, mood and visuals of the atmosphere (which basically means I can custom-build my own nightclub to rock out in).

From pre-drinks to after-festival plans, I'll be with the best b*tches I know, and I can't wait to soak in the atmosphere and have a laugh with the fab ladies in my life.

My friends might be right – I've probably set my hopes too high and have no idea what I will encounter as I step foot onto a muddy Marlay Park.

But after this weekend, and after my first festival experience, I will report back and let you guys know exactly how I got on.

Is festival life for me?

It goes without saying that we all have varying levels of patience. Some people's could rival a saint's whereas other's leave a lot to be desired.

And while impatient people are often criticised, it's important to remember that those same people don't exactly relish having the trait.

Like ingesting poison, the trait generally effects the person who has it more than it effects anyone else.

And here are just 12 examples of this which you'll know only too well if you're impatient AF in everyday life.

1. The Luas doors don't open even though you jabbed that button the minute it lit up.

"I f*cking pressed it. What does it want?"

2. The child dawdling in front of you on the pavement is not at ALL cute.

"Is he taking the p*ss?"

3. The sight of a lunchtime queue makes your stomach muscles clench and your teeth grind.

"Why do they all want what I want? Get some imagination and go somewhere else."

4. Watching a cashier change till roll is enough to make your head explode.

"Give it to me! I'll do it! I'll do it!"

5. Waiting for your iPhone to turn back on after it dies feels like an eternity

"It's my own fault. I let it die. I deserve this."

6. When your lift doesn't arrive despite the fact you've jabbed that button 13 times.

"WHAT IS THE POINT?!"

7. Waiting for the arrival of a perpetually late friend legitimately raises your blood pressure.

"She's just so f*cking rude."

8. Trying to watch something online that just keeps on buffering.

"I can't. I cannot put myself through this."

9.  Waiting behind someone at the ATM who acts like they've never encountered one before.

"They've been sent to test me."

10. When a recording on a phone tells you you're next in line, but you know they're lying.

"One more lie and I'm hanging up."

11. Queuing for brunch is your pet hate, and you can't help but stare menacingly at anyone who is already eating.

"Is she for real the way she's dawdling over that cold coffee?"

12. Waiting for your washing machine to finish its cycle so you can get back to living your life is enough to make you weep.

"How have they not come up with five-minute cycles yet?"

So, we're all aware of the impending doom that global warming promises to bring. The ice-caps will melt, oceans will rise and civilisation as we know it, will be over.

And while keeping our cities above sea-level would seem like a pretty decent incentive for using a green bin, many of us are still not doing our part.

Well, this stops today, because rising global temperatures are wreaking havoc on wine production in Mediterranean countries.

A new report has revealed that a slight increase in temperature in the region may result in labour and productivity losses in the European wine industry – and we just won't have it!

Published in the Temperature journal, the article outlined how high temperatures may effect the labour output and productivity of manual agricultural grape-picking workers.

The study, which focused on workers in Cyprus who often work in conditions up to 36C, found that higher temperatures led to labour losses of up to 27 per cent.

It's thought that the increased heat can put stress on the workers' metabolic and cardiovascular systems.

The amount of time workers were able to carry out their duties was also reduced by 15 per cent, because of the need for a greater number of breaks.

Wine as we know it could soon be a thing of the past as grapevines are very responsive to their surrounding environment, with soil condition being a key factor in taste.

Dig out the reusable cups – together, we can save the vineyards of Europe.

The countdown is on and we're now only two days away from Longitude 2017.

With acts like Stormzy, The Weeknd, Mac Miller and Mumford & Sons taking centre stage throughout the weekend, you certainly won't want to miss out.

And now, to make things that little bit easier for us, the festival has created an app to help us out during the weekend.

From the line up, to the schedule, and information on security and locations, we don't know how we survived any other festival without a handy app to help us along.

You'll also be the first to find out about any important festival news, traffic updates and much more through the push notifications.

If you fancy downloading the app, it's available on both iPhone and Android, and you can check it out here.

With terms like 'burn-out' and 'panic attack' regularly bandied about in daily discourse, we've never been so aware of the importance of maintaining and caring for our mental health.

And yet, in some sectors, the idea that you would take time off work in order to tend to your mental health and emotional wellbeing would be met with criticism by some.

And that is why one CEO's response to his employee's admission that she intended to take two days off in order to focus on her mental health has been met with such positivity.

Madalyn Parker, who works as a web developer, has highlighted her boss's determination to remove the stigma surrounding mental health by sharing an email exchange which took place between them on Twitter.

Responding to Madalyn's email which outlined her decision to step away from work responsibilities in order to return to the office "refreshed and back to 100%', CEO Ben Congleton coudn't hide his admiration and respect.

"I just wanted to personally thank you for sending emails like this," Ben began in an email which has reached millions since initially sent at the end of June.

"Every time you do, I use it as a reminder of the importance of using sick days for mental health – I can't believe this is not standard practice at all organisations," he continued.

"You are an example to us all, and help cut through the stigma so we can all bring our whole selves to work."

Responding to Madalyn's upload, Twitter users highlighted the importance of Ben's understanding before revealing their own negative experiences.

"This is great!! I once called in to take a mental health day. My boss told me anxiety isn't a real illness and that I needed a doc's note," wrote one.

"I worked at a mental health facility that gave points twd being fired for any sick days taken causing the decline of ppls mental health," added another.

Commenting on this contribution to the dialogue, Ben posted a message online, saying: "Even in the safest environment it is still uncommon to be direct with your co-workers about mental health issues."

"I wanted to call this out and express gratitude for Madalyn's bravery in helping us normalise mental health as a normal health issue," he finished.
