In an effort to highlight the plight of millions of refugee children, Plan International Ireland conducted an experiment on Dublin's Grafton Street during the capital's busiest shopping period.

With the help of 9-nine-year-old Robyn Dempsey, the organisation gave a voice to the countless refugee children who arrive in foreign cities unaccompanied.

While a worrying number of Christmas shoppers ignored Robyn's pleas earlier this week, many stopped to help the child before being told that she was lost after being forced to flee a hostile situation.

Commenting on the footage, CEO of Plan Ireland, Paul O'Brien, said: "Just over the population of the UK have been forced to leave their home. More than 65 million. Over half of them are children. "

"We cannot look away from this crisis. Think for a moment of a girl who is lost, alone and afraid," he continued.

"A girl who has seen more pain and violence than we could even begin to imagine. It does not matter who she is or where she is from."

Did you see Robyn during your Christmas shopping trip?

There are few symbols more synonymous with the festive season than the Christmas tree.

When it comes to magazine covers, it doesn't get much bigger than Vogue, so we are seriously pumped for Irish actress, Ruth Negga, who is gracing the cover of the American edition this January.

Ruth, whose credits include Breakfast on Pluto, Love/Hate and Misfits, has seen her career go from strength to strength over the course of the past decade, and now looks set to take home an Oscar for her role in Loving.

Chatting with the iconic publication, the 35-year-old actress proves she's as down-to-earth as you might expect, calling herself 'a rag of a woman' after realising her nail polish was chipped and her bronzer unblended.

The actress, who has been in a relationship with fellow actor Dominic Cooper for seven years, also acknowledged the longevity of their union, laughing: "What's that in… actor years? Forty-nine million!”

Social media users have wasted no time celebrating Ruth's appearance on the cover after the publication shared a preview of her shoot on Instagram.

"Thank you for the diversity," wrote one while another remarked: "Love seeing this Irish girl do so well, she's fabulous."

"This is everything," said another while a fellow follower added: "I absolutely love this woman. Great interiew."

G'wan, Ruth!

It's the time of year where almost everything takes on some festive flair.

While glittery Christmas jumpers, novelty pyjamas and even seasonal phone covers might be expected, there's one Christmas themed gadget we didn't see coming.

The Christmas lights phone charger is one way to spice up your life, or would make the ideal gag gift for the office Grinch.

This uber-festive piece of novelty tech has gained a cult following online, with most of its' retailers selling out.

Luckily there are quite a few remaining on eBay and Amazon, so opt for express shipping if you want it under your tree.

The Christmas lights phone charging cable is currently only available for the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, and 6s Plus, so Android users shouldn't be asking Santa for one.

They may have traded a kiss during their time on Beauty School Dropouts, but it seems there's no love lost between Jeremy McConnell and Scarlett Moffatt if the Dubliner's recent comments are anything to go by.

Making his feelings for the Gogglebox star clear while speaking to Heatworld, he admitted that he doesn't share the same love for Scarlett as the rest of us.

"I hate her. I just think she's manipulative," said the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant. "I don't think she's a genuine person."

While Scarlett has been lauded by I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here viewers for her down-to-earth attitude, it sounds like Jeremy was having none of it.

"I think she knows how to play certain situations," he argued. "If you were there for six weeks in the jungle, you'd be found out. But luckily she's playing a very clever game."

Despite Jeremy's critique of her performance in the Aussie jungle, Scarlett went on to be crowned winner – something Jeremy said he couldn't 'give a sh*t' about.

Jeez Jeremy, how dya really feel?

Glittery eyes OR red lips? The question many of us ask ourselves BEFORE we sit down to do our make-up.

A dramatic eye looks good with a LBD but so does a festive lip – so what's a girl to do?

Well, according to former Miss Ireland turned beauty and lifestyle blogger, Holly Carpenter, you should do BOTH – if you want to, that is.

"We are surrounded by negativity every day; it's time to celebrate that we are all different," Holly told SHEmazing

"My face can wear a lot of make-up so a dramatic eye and red lip looks well, but it's not the same for everyone."

Encouraging everyone to go with what they want, the 25-year-old confessed that it can be "intimating" and totally "depends on the individual".

The eye or lip dilemma is just one question that Holly answers in her brand new and exclusive online series, What Would Holly Do?

Inundated with beauty questions on Instagram and Snapchat, the blogger was approached by RTÉ Player to answer major queries in a four-part series that sees her creating festive looks as well as giving tips on helping your look stay fresh all day.

"I love how make-up has the power to give women a boost of confidence and can help to make them feel good about themselves," Holly said.

"I think there's a huge amount of pressure on women these days to look perfect. I want to spread the message that we all struggle with self confidence sometimes and that's OK, but I think we all need to be a bit kinder to ourselves.”

Each video is just a few minutes long, making them pretty handy for watching on the commute to college, but Holly admits that it is something that could grow – maybe even to the telly.

However, with plenty of future endeavours lined up – one including a trip to LAPLAND just before Christmas – and another that she wanted to keep under-wraps, Holly has plenty to keep her busy for the next few months anyway.

What Would Holly Do? is the latest addition to RTÉ Players collection of online only, exclusive content. Holly joins comedian, Pamela Joyce, Chef Adrian, Roz Purcell, Indy Power as the latest online contributor.

Let's be honest – one of the biggest moments in X Factor history was the duet between Beyoncé and Alexandra Burke back in 2008.

Between Bey's vocals and Alexandra's hilarious bawl-face, it was definitely a moment to remember…. but for all the wrong reasons for the lads from JLS.

According to a recent interview, the act, which went head to head against Alexandra before she was ultimately crowed the winner, were furious that their fellow contetant was paired with an international superstar in the finale.

Reflecting on the atmosphere backstage at the time, Aston Merrygold said: "I was baffled. I was so baffled. At the time, I was 19 and I was absolutely fuming – behind closed doors I was fuming. Like, Beyoncé – are you kidding?!"

Speaking on BUILD Series LDN, he continued: "I was fuming. Listen, Westlife were amazing at the time and we had one of the biggest songs ever, but we were like, ‘How’s she got Beyoncé?"

“No disrespect to Westlife at all, but we were like, ‘Why didn’t we get Beyoncé?’" he admitted.

Why aren't we surprised?!

Breaking in the perfect pair of high heels for the party season is no mean feat, and even if you take precautions those new heels can be torture.

No one wants to be that girl at the end of the night with her shoes in her hand ( and possibly a takeaway in the other), and some women are going to drastic measures to achieve pain-free feet.

With all of those Christmas parties on the horizon, some women are opting for foot botox to stay in their heels all night long.

"The use of Botox in the feet to ease swelling and pain caused by high heels is not a new technique," Dr Jeremy Hunt from the Australian Society of Plastic Surgery told the Daily Mail.

According to Dr Hunt, foot botox is not a new procedure, but it is increasingly in demand during the festive season.

"The procedure involves a number of small injections in and around the sole area of the feet that aids with pain relief and reduces the swelling that can sometimes occur with wearing high heels for long periods of time," he said.

So sitting down to rest your long suffering feet could be a thing of the past.

The procedures costs about €350, so it might not be that realistic if you have presents to buy and a Christmas feast to cater to.

The doctor warned that it is also not recommended as a long term solution to wearing high heels.

Christmas ads are big business, and every year we look forward to the latest batch of tearjerkers.

Generally following a tried and tested formula, advertisers bring us on a journey which ultimately sees us reaching for a box of tissues before phoning friends and family to profess our love.

And while Polish online auction website, Allegro, have done much the same, it looks like their decision to drop the F-bomb in the middle of the touching commercial has done much to boost its popularity online.

Documenting an elderly man's progress with the English language, the ad shows him practicing the language by labelling household items and mimicking 'not before the watershed' lines he hears on television.

So, when he is finally given the opportunity to practice the language on family members, it's no real surprise that YouTubers feared he'd ruin the precious moment by effing and blinding all over the place,

"Oh god, i thought he was going to say "i am going to f*cking kill you" at the end," wrote one.

"Was expecting him in the end to go "I gonna f*cking kill you"," added another.

Ah lads, as if they'd end it like that…

We love the festive treats that flood menus in fast food chains at this time of year, and we all know that McDonald's rarely disappoints with its Christmas menu.

From the Festive Cheese Feast to the Spicy Chicken Winter Melt, this is probably one of the best times of year for the chain.

Well, it has just debuted crispy waffle fries to some locations… BUT, the only locations are in Canada.

Waffle Fries

Yep, the whole world is totally reeling that no waffle goodness will be coming our way, but we have to say, they look so good and crispy.

Many flocked to Twitter to praise the new menu item:

While others lamented that they'll never taste the crispy loveliness:

Let's just hope they get rolled out world wide next year!
