So, it turns out taking regular power naps can actually make us happier.

In a recent study conducted by the University of Hertfordshire, researchers asked over 1,000 participants to rate their happiness levels and note whether or not they napped throughout the day.

The subjects were then divided into three groups – non-nappers, short nappers and long nappers.

Results found that approximately 67 per cent of short nappers claimed to feel happy, while just 56 per cent of long napper and 60 percent of non-nappers said the same.

According to Red Online, Richard Wiseman, Psychologist Professor at the university said:

"Previous research has shown that naps of under 30 minutes make you more focused, productive and creative, and these new findings suggest the tantalising possibility that you can also become happier by just taking a short nap."

"Similarly longer napping is associated with several health risks and again, this is in line with our results."

Short 'power' naps actually come with a whole host of health benefits.

A separate study carried out by NASA found that 26-minute naps could boost alertness by up to 54 per cent.

We won't argue with those statistics.

Professor Wiseman also stressed the need for workplaces to provide quiet napping areas for their employees.

"A large body of research shows that short naps boost performance. Many highly successful companies, such as Ben & Jerry's and Google, have installed dedicated nap spaces, and employees need to wake up to the upside of napping at work."

Now, there's an idea we can definitely get behind.

Jennifer Lawrence has become one of the biggest film stars in the world. While she is one of the most respected young actors in the business.

Naturally, that means she has been absolutely everywhere doing promotion for her latest release.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 actress told Conan O’Brien in an interview that as a result she is in serious need of sleep.

So much so, that when she finally got the chance to get some shut eye she managed to do herself an injury.  While expressing her excitement over finally being able to get some serious shut-eye on a press tour she managed to dislocate her toe.

“It’s exhausting. They pushed this show pony too far,” the 25-year old explained.

“We’ve been everywhere.” After traveling around the world to promote the film, JLaw said it was impossible to sleep in hotels because of the time differences.

“This was my first night of sleep … the best night of sleep the whole tour I got was on the plane,” the Oscar-winning actress said while explaining an iPhone video of her bouncing like crazy on a plane bed.

“It was about 12 hours and I actually dislocated my toe. I dislocated my toe by hitting my own foot.”

Lawrence, who now has a purple toe, exclaimed: “I was psyched!”

We do love a good nap ourselves, but we don’t recall a time where we actually caused ourselves bodily harm in the name of a decent snooze.

Oh naps and the glory of naptime.

It is the time of day that people around the world seem to understand the importance of, but we can’t quite work into our daily schedules past childhood. Which is just a terrible shame really.

The most frustrating thing: in our youth we didn’t appreciate naps at all.Why were so oblivious to the beauty of the midday snooze way back when?

However! Science is stepping up and giving us a helping hand with a new study. It proves at work is the best time to take a nap.

We had already thought this was the case, but it’s nice to know the experts are on our side when our bosses consider the practice frowned upon.

The sleep experts, along with the National Sleep Foundation, discovered that for people who don’t have trouble sleeping at night, a short power nap of 20 minutes (anything more starts a REM cycle, which is a deep sleep no-no) between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. will leave you rested enough to tackle the afternoon like an Olympian.

Maybe not an Olympian but it definitely feels like you’re some sort of goddess when you can politely decline three coffees at 4 in the afternoon with a certain smugness.

There is some bad news if you toss and turn at night. These naps can make you groggier than if you never napped in the first place. So perhaps before you decide to commit to the siesta loving life, consider sorting out your night time sleep schedule first.

Does this mean those bizarre nap desks could be coming to an office near you? We think yes!

The case for napping during the day has been argued for quite some time now. Everyone was very relieved when science took the side of the pro-nap team which research that suggests that you should in fact be paid to nap.

The book Take a Nap! Change Your Life proved that naps can boost productivity, increase alertness, and improve your accuracy among other benefits. So, it’s a good that there’s a new desk design on the way that will make sure you can get some shut eye.

The ultimate desk-bed hybrid is a Greek design from Studio NL. The side panels fold out to reveal a mattress and headboard. Very sleek.

Designer Athanasia Leivaditou told the Huffington Post that the design was supposed to a comment on the emphasis people place on their work these days.

"The desk concept came from my time working incredible hours at university," Leivaditou said. "It's meant to show how much of our lives we spend on work."

It also shows just how much we love a nice nap when that mid-afternoon slump hits hard.

The design won an awards at the recent A’ Design Compeititon for furniture and homeware. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that the design is going to be available worldwide soon. *broken heart emoji*

However, there is another design that might take your napping abilities to the next level: the StudyBed.

It is quite rare that these days you meet someone who hasn’t indulged in a nap at some point in their lives. Not just for infants or small children, 15 minutes of absolute luxury can be all yours if you’re willing to indulge in a quick trip to the land of snooze-ville.

There’s just one problem: optimal napping conditions can sometimes be hard to find.

The trek upstairs to your actual bed can be far too intimidating, especially if it’s a Sunday and last night just went far too well for you. Feeling fragile and needing some cuddles to help you through The Fear?

Then you need this pillow/bed. inspired by the character from Disney's Big Hero 6, this is the best thing we've seen all week.

He’s shaped like a human, so cuddles all day every day.

He supports you when it's time for snacks and tea; no spills, no problems.

There’s also his ability to stretch, so you’ll never be afraid of falling off.

We need one, immediately.

Starting this August, the government in Seoul, South Korea are allowing workers to take naps in the afternoon in order to boost productivity.

Workers can nap for an hour between 1pm and 6pm – but if they do they have to either come in an hour earlier or go home an hour later. So there IS a catch, but still – on those days when you just can’t keep your eyes open, wouldn’t this just be heaven?

The government will be investing in rest areas for employees over the year. We are SO jealous.
