In perhaps the greatest Christmas gift they will ever receive, Irish sportstar Shay Given and his fiancée Becky Gibson have welcomed a baby daughter into the family earlier this month.

The happy couple announced the arrival of their daughter, Grace, on Facebook.

The pair are snapped beaming next to the Christmas tree with little Grace dressed up in a Santa suit.

The happy couple announced their engagement earlier this year.

Becky, who work in PR, looks healthy and happy after giving birth to grace on December 1.

"Nothing compares to the love and energy that can be found spending time with the ones you adore," said the 29-year-old wrote on social media.

Shay has two other children from his previous marriage. The 39-year-old goalkeeper split from his wife of twelve years in 2013.

The Wright family only lost their beloved Nanny Pat last week, but that didn't stop horrible football supporters shout insults at Mark's brother, Josh.

Gillingham footballer, Josh Wright, was playing a game against Millwall yesterday when the opposing side taunted Josh about his late grandmother.

Mark attended the game with his father, who was celebrating his 59th birthday, and took to Twitter shortly after the match to share his outrage.

The 28-year-old wrote: "Football is football and hating on the opposing players is all part of it.

"The few fans chanting disgusting stuff RE our nan is so low."

But it didn't totally effect the boys day out as Josh's team won 3-0 in the end.

"The thousands of @TheGillsFC fans singing THERES ONLY ONE JOSH WRIGHT at 3-0 up puts a smile write back on our faces," Mark continued.

Mark and his family certainly know how to get back on those haters.

With security at heightened levels across Europe in the aftermath of the Paris killings, the HDI Arena in Hannover is currently being evacuated of spectators.

The German national team – also caught up in the Stade du France explosions on Friday – were due to play The Netherlands in an international friendly game there.

A suspicious object was found before the game, and authorities in Germany, acting on intelligence information, have further reason to believe that the Hannover stadium might be the latest Isis terrorist target.

An official police announcement made in the stadium told football fans to "move away from the stadium. Do not stand still."

Kick-off was due to take place at 8.30pm local time [7.30pm Irish time].

Germany's decision to go ahead with their fixture against Holland was seen as an act of sporting defiance in the face of the atrocities in France.

Meanwhile, also tonight, France visit England at Wembley.

If you think it's cold here, spare a thought for poor David Beckham.

The retired footballer is currently making his way through seven matches on all seven continents – and his latest match took place in Antarctica.

David is taking part in the challenge as part of his duties as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, and he's been keeping his loyal fans updated on his journey via Instagram.

Yesterday he shared a snap of him getting ready for the football match in the icy weather. He sure looks cosy though, wrapped in a big red coat and hat.

He was also seen taking time out of his UNICEF duties to play with the children of the shantytowns he visited.

Speaking of his epic challenge, Mr Beckham told the BBC, "I remember sitting on a plane and discussing this idea with friends and never thinking it would become a reality."

Several reports from the UK this weekend suggest that two high-profile Premier League footballers are preparing to come out as gay.

There are currently no openly homosexual athletes playing in the sport’s top tier in England.

One story in The Mirror today states that the players – one of whom is an English international – feel that the time is right, and that there is a far better climate of acceptance now.

The newspapers also says that the players are eager to make the announcement before the beginning of next season.

Almost every other major sport, from hurling to rugby, has had players speak openly about their sexuality and continue their careers without any major disruption.

However, professional football in the UK has yet to be tested in the same way.

Former Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzlsperger said he was gay after he retired in 2014 and Robbie Rogers [pictured above] quit the game after saying he was gay in 2012 before returning to the sport. He now plays for LA Galaxy alongside Robbie Keane.

The Mirror also reports that one well-known player told friends he was gay in 2011 but his car was them daubed with a homophobic slur.

She gave birth to their second child; hours later he flew to Dublin to witness Ireland beat World Champions Germany… and now, at last, we have a name!

Yes, welcome to the world Hudson Keane – a little brother to Robert, six.

Taking to Facebook last night, Robbie gushed: “Claudine and I would like to officially welcome Hudson Keane into the world.

“Such a blessing! His big brother Robert has been looking after him while I’ve been away.

“Looking forward to getting back to see my boys!!”

We definitely love the name Hudson! Somewhat more ‘American’ than Robert (the family moved Stateside in 2011 when 35-year-old Mr Keane signed for LA Galaxy), it is actually Medieval in origin and remains a nickname for both Hugh and Richard.

It is now one of the most popular boys' names in the US.

After confirming the pregnancy in late July, Dubliner Claudine, 32, gave birth at the swish Cedars-Sinai Hospital in LA – a firm favourite of celeby mums-to-be – on Monday.

A statement at the time read: “Robbie and Claudine are delighted to announce the birth of their gorgeous baby boy, who was born at 7pm on the 5th of October weighing 8lbs at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital LA.

“Mum and baby are doing great. Robert is already enjoying his new role as big brother.”

The duo dated for several years before marrying in the summer of 2008 in Dublin.

Robert arrived in May 2009, with the former Miss Ireland finalist giving birth naturally at a Dublin hospital.

It seems David has the upper hand with this one!

Victoria Beckham has revealed that her daughter, Harper, has no desire to follow her mother into fashion – and wants to be a footballer instead.

Speaking to ABC Good Morning America, the designer said it was a "dagger through the heart" when Harper, four, recently told her mother that she wants to play football.

The former Spice Girl said that she already has three sons that play football and to her dismay, her baby girl has become a tomboy.

"She loves fashion as all little girls do, she loves putting makeup on and playing with my shoes… but she's a tomboy, she has three brothers."

"She said to me the other day: 'Mummy I think I want to play football.' (It was) a dagger through the heart. I have three boys who want to play football, come on, let one of them want to be in fashion!"

On the TV show, Victoria was described as a "Vogue Mom" as she appears on front covers of magazines while rising her family which include Harper, Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 13 and Cruz, 10.

Her only hopeful so far is Brooklyn, having recently modelled for Miss Vogue.

Meanwhile, this week Victoria revealed her latest collection at New York Fashion Week, for which she was given rave reviews.

Mrs Beckham admitted that being in the Spice Girls prejudiced people against her when she first became a designer.

"People did have preconceptions and I expected that but I wasn't out to prove anybody wrong, I just wanted to prove to myself I could do it".

When a video has more than 2.5 million views online you know it’s going to be something spectacular to entertain the masses.

As it turns out, Eoghan O’Hagan from Lurgan, Co. Armagh has managed to do just that. The 17-year old’s football skills have been mesmerising people all over the world since the video was uploaded.

He managed to kick the football through the letter ‘O’ in his local Tesco. His cousin Diarmuid told the Independent.ie that it was only his second attempt at the task.

"The first one hit the letter C, before the second went through the O," Diarmuid explained. While we imagined this was something that took a little bit of practice, it turns out Eoghan just has a gift apparently.

"We were kicking the ball around in the carpark and he just went for it." As you do Eoghan, as you do.

We also think the reaction in the video is a big winner. Diarmuid certainly thought so anyway.

While the Armagh footballers bowed out of the Championship a few weeks ago, we think they might have some more fresh options to take up the jersey next year.

He'll never do that again…

Irish soccer player James McClean sparked anger when he turned his back on the British national anthem during West Brom’s pre-season friendly against Charleston Battery in the US.

The 26-year-old player was seen turning away from the St George flag as he stood beside his teammates, all of whom were facing it.

This is by no means the first time that the Derry-man has behaved in a politically motivated and controversial way.

Last year, he refused to wear a poppy on his jersey in the days leading up to Remembrance Sunday, the day traditionally celebrated by British people to commemorate British and Commonwealth soldiers who fought in the second world war and later conflicts.

Mr McClean refused to wear the poppy saying that it would have been disrespectful to the “innocent people who lost their lives in the Troubles.”

West Brom boss Tony Pulis has reportedly warned his player against this kind of behaviour.

Twitter fans have responded very unkindly to the manoeuver with some labelling him “scum”. Northern Irish MP Gregory Campbell said that “he should reconsider who his paymasters are or move elsewhere so there isn’t a problem.”

James responded to his criticism by tweeting “I don’t need to say anything or will I either.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested yesterday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

The 45-year-old hip-hop star allegedly went after a football coach with a kettlebell on the college campus of UCLA.

The rapper was arrested on campus shortly after the incident. According to TMZ, the coach that was attacked was strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi, and they have reported that the event was caught on camera.

The head coach at UCLA, Jim Mora, released a statement saying, “I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation.”

“This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.

The music mogul was reportedly at the college to watch his son, Justin Dior Combs, play football. Justin had posted a picture of himself and his father with his team to Instagram to celebrate Father’s Day.

Our favourite Irish mammy Mrs Brown aka Brendan O’Carroll is set to hop into bed – of the business kind – with none other than David Beckham!

The Irish TV star wants to buy into Becks’ new Miami football team.

Brendan now lives in Florida – where Becks’ new club will be based – and he is keen to support his soon-to-be local team.

Brendan, whose BBC1 show Mrs Brown’s Boys pulls in a huge 12 million viewers, said, “I’m hoping to buy into it.

“I’m hoping to buy shares in it…they are going to be my home team.”

But Brendan told us not to expect Becks to have a cameo in Mrs Brown’s Boys any time soon.

“Unless it’s completely accidental. He’s not really funny,” he said.

We think Victoria would disagree there!
