There are several fun nail art and manicure trends to look forward to this year, whether you’re looking on TikTok, Instagram feeds, runways or Red Carpets- there seems to be a new nail trend daily. That’s why Sally Hansen asked our Ambassador and Celebrity Manicurist, Michelle Class to break it down for us, so we know what to be wearing on our talons this season! London born, Michelle Class, has styled the nails of high-profile clientele like; Margot Robbie, J-Lo, Lily James and our very own Nicola Coughlan.

Lavishly Long

“We are seeing the comeback of a long nail especially this awards season from the Grammys to the Super Bowl and the BAFTAs. One of my favourites was Adele’s long dark nails that matched her maroon dress. It gave true Hollywood glamour vibes,” says Class.

You can re-create this look using Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in shade Dig Fig (RRP €11.99 / £9.99). Our ultimate chip-resistant nail polish, Miracle Gel™, is patented technology for longer wear. No UV lamp required.

Clean Girl Aesthetic

That Clean Girl aesthetic is everywhere at the moment. It’s chic and easy to wear and goes with everything! “To create that perfect clean manicure make sure you prep your nails removing any cuticles and file your nails to a soft square shape. You can then apply a sheer nude all over. I’m loving the new Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure shades.”

Get the Clean Girl look with Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure in Soft Plum (RRP €11.99 / £9.99). Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure. is a plant based, 100% vegan nail polish, for beautiful colour and shine without compromise. “Finish off with the Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure Top Coat to give that glossy shine and a final touch of the Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle Oil (RRP: €11.49 / £8.99) for that clean girl salon style mani!”

Colourful French

A French manicure is never not on trend for spring season however, this year lets mix it up with a pastel tip. “I can see that this is going to be a huge trend for this season and it is super easy to recreate. Whether you prefer a long or short nail, use a sheer base to coat the nails."

Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure Rose Petal is a great base and acts like a concealer for your nails, hiding any imperfections. Then choose your tip colour, I like a baby blue so would pick up Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure in Crystal Blue or go for a pop of Pink with Good.Kind.Pure. Peony Origins (RRP: €11.99 / £9.99) and then seal with the Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure Top Coat”, recommends Class.

Glazed Over

“The glazed look Hailey Bieber filled our TikTok feed with is still a popular choice and super easy to recreate. This style is definitely not leaving our nail mood boards for a while!”

Find an opalescent polish of your choice and make sure you apply a smoothing base coat like Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat (RRP €7.99 / £5.99) and then one coat of Sally Hansen Good.Kind.Pure in White Tea (RRP: €11.99 / £9.99)  followed by your glossy top coat.

Sally Hansen is available nationwide from all major pharmacies as well as a selection of online retail outlets.

To celebrate the latest release in its Wheel of the Year series, Bealtaine Single Pot Still, Dingle Distillery reveals details of a series of events welcoming the Return of the Light. These exclusive, ticket-only events take place over Bealtaine in the wilds of Wicklow, with fire, fables and feasting.

Guests will be transported to The Wicklow Escape for an evening of whiskey tasting against the backdrop of Bealtaine. The Celtic Festival of Bealtaine marks the beginning of summer in the ancient Celtic calendar, which is a Cross Quarter Day, halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. This limited release honours the ancient Celtic celebration. Dingle Bealtaine Single Pot Still is an homage to the arrival of long summer evenings and the Bealtaine fire festival.

Dingle will host two Bealtaine events on Monday, 1st May and Tuesday, 2nd May. Guests will be transported from Dublin to the heart of Wicklow to experience premium Dingle serves from the Wheel of the Year series, including Samhain, Lá Le Bríde and Bealtaine, as well as fire inspired cocktails. Wood fired cuisine will cater to every taste with a three-course meal and entertainment will be provided by storytelling performers Candlelit Tales, with live music before guests experience a truly spectacular fire show from Pyro Collective bringing to life the true meaning of Bealtaine. Guests will be transported back to the city centre having experienced a transformative event, signifying the returning light.

Dingle Distillery is excited to present Bealtaine Single Pot Still, the latest edition in its Wheel of the Year series, this comes after the successful launch of their Samhain and Lá Le Bríde editions. Bealtaine is the third release in a series of nine limited-edition whiskeys. This new release is available May 1st, 2023, at DingleDistillery.ie and across off-licenses and stores nationwide. Dingle is set to celebrate the launch with an unmissable event series taking place at the start of May to mark the beginning of Bealtaine.

The Dingle Bealtaine Single Pot Still has matured in Bourbon casks with a Shiraz cask finish. There are 5,500 bottles set to be released of this limited release that have been bottled at 52.5% ABV. Bealtaine Single Pot Still expresses sweet aromas of sun-dried raisins, sweet dates and vanilla cream on the nose. On the palate, it is warm with a suggestion of dark cherries in syrup, nutty caramel and velvety dark chocolate. The syrup texture slowly melts to a warm spice finish. The result is a unique and vibrant flavour. The new release is set to be highly sought after due to the limited supply available.

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is divided into eight periods and following suit the Wheel of the Year series from Dingle Distillery is set to launch nine editions, which includes an additional ninth and final release to mark Wren’s Day, following the rhythm of the seasons, equinoxes, and solstices. Though Wren's Day is not part of the Celtic Wheel of the Year, its release is in recognition of the importance of the day in Dingle culture and heritage. The ancient Celtic celebration of Bealtaine marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer. In Irish history the festival was marked with animals moving to summer pastures and the lighting of bonfire. The beginning of the summer season was said to have started with fire festivals at Bealtaine. These fires marked a cleanse and transition into the new season with the hope of successful harvests to come.

When it comes to the environment, the people of Ireland have great intentions, with 91% saying they prefer to use environmentally friendly products, according to new research by Vodafone Ireland. They also love an incentive, with 80% more likely to make a more sustainable purchase if receiving a discount or cash. Contrary, when it comes to clearing out, 75% admit to holding onto older items because of the attachment or sentimentality they have towards them.

The research was carried out to examine Irish attitudes towards the environment, recycling and to uncover the key barriers to recycling smartphones. Ireland is strong on the recycling front, especially when it comes to easy-to-recycle waste like batteries (91% always, usually, or sometimes recycle), plastic (97%), glass (97%), paper (97%), cardboard (97%). However, 6% of Irish adults admit to never having recycled large electronic goods like kitchen appliances, but almost a fifth (19%) admit to never having recycled a smartphone and 59% have never traded in a smartphone.

What stops us from recycling our smartphones?

The top reason for holding onto a smartphone instead of trading it in was because of photos and memories (30%), followed by wanting to have a spare phone (26%), and the fact it holds personal information (23%).

Of those who have never recycled a smartphone, 31% said it was because it had personal information on it, while 28% said the phone has old photos and memories. A lack of understanding about what to recycle also comes into play, with 31% admitting they simply don’t know how to go about recycling a smartphone.

3.2 years is the average length of time people in Ireland hold onto a smartphone, with 55% keeping one for between two and three years. The top reason for replacing a smartphone is that it becomes slow to use (51%), followed by reduced battery life (42%), not being usable (35%), and cosmetic damage like a cracked screen (22%).

Good intentions

The top reason for those who opt to recycle a smartphone is because it’s better for the environment (55%), followed by knowing it can be repurposed and sold on (28%), and finally for financial reasons, with 26% saying they received money for recycling. When it comes to trading in, 62% did it because they received money, while 25% said it was because the phone can be repurposed and sold, and 23% had the environment top of mind.

Why trading in or recycling smartphones is good for the environment

Vodafone Ireland was the first telco to launch a trade-in proposition online and in-store, and to date has collected over 1419kg of devices. Traded-in devices go to be re-used, refurbished, or re-sold, extending the lifetime of a smartphone and in turn benefitting the circular economy.

Anita Carra, Consumer Business Director, Vodafone Ireland, said “We conducted this study to mark Earth Day and understand the opportunities and barriers for our customers to make greener choices. I am delighted to see that the research clearly shows an appetite among Irish people to recycle, reuse and repurpose smartphone devices. Since launching our online Trade-In tool, last year, we have seen a fantastic response from customers, and we are so proud of the reduction in e waste brought about by this initiative.

At Vodafone, helping our customers switch to green, through services like trade-in and fix and go, is at the forefront of our purpose goals as we strive to reach net zero by 2040.’’

Vodafone’s Trade In gives customers the chance to receive up to €400 for trading in their smartphone either online or in-store. The online tool runs a series of health tests to assess the value of a device, and customers receive a personalised quote in minutes.

To help customers go green, Vodafone offers a range of services including Fix & Go for repairs and upgrades to extend the lifecycle of phones, as well as eSIMs which reduce carbon emissions by removing the need to manufacture and ship plastic, and a variety of eco accessories.

Hendrick's Gin have recently launched a new limited-edition gin 'Flora Adora' – which has that signature Hendrick’s round house style. But what makes Hendrick’s Flora Adora different, is that it then has the botanicals of a range of gorgeous wildflowers added on top.

The new gin was curiously perfected by Hendrick’s Master Distiller, Lesley Gracie, within the Hendrick’s Gin Palace in Southwest Scotland. Lesley loves watching the bees and butterflies at play in her gardens and how they seem to favour particular flowers. With Flora Adora, Lesley has used this favoured floral bouquet, that is most attractive to our precious pollinators, and used them to distil this refreshing floral infusion.

It is positively buzzing with an enticing floral bouquet coupled with that fresh, herbal character that is consummately and classically Hendrick’s in style making it so, so perfect for spring-summer drinks and cocktails.

In line with the gorgeous weather and that excited for summer feeling kicking in the good people at Hendrick's Gin have shared this bespoke cocktail recipe designed by the Hendrick's Gin brand ambassador to Ireland – Suzy Cody.

Wildegarden Cup Cocktail Ingredients:

  • 50ml Hendrick's Flora Adora Gin
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • 25ml simple syrup
  • 150ml soda water
  • 4 raspberries
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 3 cucumber wheels
  • Handful of mint leaves & raspberries

Wildgarden Cup Method:

  • Combine all ingredients in a highball glass filled with ice.
  • Lightly stir & top with soda water.
  • Garnish with 3 cucumber slices & a handful of mint and raspberries.

Embrace the enchanting nature of the garden and its floral bouquet with Hendrick’s Flora Adora, available at leading supermarkets and off-licences across the Republic of Ireland now, including Supervalu and Centra. The new gin will also begin rolling out in premium bars across the country this month.

Stacey Solomon has been preparing for the end of her maternity leave!

The Sort Your Life Out presenter welcomed her fifth child into the world earlier this year, her third with husband Joe Swash. Stacey gave birth to baby daughter Belle on February 7.

Now, the 33-year-old has confirmed that her maternity leave has almost come to an end, and she has also teased where her next career move will take her.

The mum-of-five took to her Instagram stories earlier today to give her 5.6M followers a brief video catch-up.

“I’ve got my first job back next week, so I just really want to get into good habits and try and stick to them,” Stacey began, as she completed her morning routine.

“It’s easier at the moment because I’m on maternity leave, so I just feel like I’ve got time. Even though I’ve got all the kids and it is crazy manic, I’ve still got time. When I’m at work, it’s crazy manic plus ‘see you later’, you’re out the door!” she exclaimed.

Stacey then went on to share her delight for her secret new job. “It’s the craziest job ever. I’m going to Paris!” she squealed.

“I really can’t stress to you enough how I never get jobs like this. I get the ‘Come and tidy my house’ jobs,” the former X Factor star joked.

Lastly, Stacey confessed that she has been trying to adapt to a big change with baby Belle. “I’m taking Belle with me because I haven’t worked out the breastfeeding thing yet. I’m trying to wean her off a little bit, which is sad, but I just can’t do it all,” she admitted.

“I can’t do work, school runs, kids, breastfeeding – it’s just impossible. Breastfeeding is hard, and you have to have time and you have to be committed. It’s on demand,” she continued, adding that she hasn’t successfully weaned Belle fully yet.

Belle is the newest addition to the Solomon-Swash household, as Stacey and Joe were already parents to Rose (1) and Rex (3), alongside Stacey’s elder sons Leighton (10) and Zachary (15).

Jo Wilson is now cancer-free!

Eight months ago, the Sky Sports News presenter announced to OK! that she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

At the time, the disease had spread to her lymph nodes and was Stage 3C, one below a Stage 4 diagnosis. The 38-year-old subsequently went under intense radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment in an attempt to fight back.

Now, the mum-of-one has joyfully confirmed to the publication that she has been given the all-clear from her doctor.

“I can honestly say, waiting for the results of my latest scan was one of the toughest times of my life,” Jo admitted in her interview, adding that she is “still trying to process” the good news.

“Before [the consultant] had even sat down, she told me, ‘It’s excellent news. There’s no evidence of disease,’” Jo continued.

The TV star explained her disbelief at that moment. “I could hardly believe it but she showed me the most recent scan compared to the one I’d had done when I was first diagnosed. This time it was absolutely clear, with none of the red ‘cancer’ zones that I’d seen on my previous scans,” she detailed.

Jo then recalled how she immediately shared her relief with her husband Dan, whom she married three weeks after her treatment ended, and their two-year-old daughter Mabel.

“I rushed over there and I just said, ‘It’s gone!’ We had a huge hug and there were more tears. It was hard to take it all in at once – but we both just felt overwhelmed with relief,” she gushed.

Lastly, Jo confessed one upsetting side effect of her cancer treatment. “Before it started I was told that it would make me infertile and bring on early menopause,” she explained.

“We’d thought we might just have one last baby so it was a sad thing to deal with, being told we won’t have any more children. It does make Mabel even more special, though,” she noted, adding that “the thought of leaving her was unbearable.”

Congratulations to Jo on her wonderful news!

ALONE, the charity known for supporting older people, have called for additional focus on mental health difficulties that older people experience.

This plea has occurred because the number of interventions to support mental health that were carried out by ALONE has increased by almost 300% in the past year.

ALONE CEO, Seán Moynihan, spoke at the Joint Oireachtas Sub-Committee on Mental Health, and revealed that in the last quarter of 2022, 29% of the 1,926 older people ALONE assessed admitted they had issues in relation to their mental health. Over half of these people had not gone to their GP for support.

The charity also mentioned research that was carried out by the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA). This found that 78% of older adults who have evidence of depression and 85% who have evidence of anxiety, do not have a diagnosis from a doctor.

Seán Moynihan stated, “We do not give older age due consideration as a time where mental health difficulties may emerge for the first time. We do not discuss how getting older is associated with age-specific psychosocial risk factors for mental health difficulties, such as living alone, bereavement, physical illness, disability, and cognitive decline”.

“While many older people enjoy positive mental health, there is evidence to suggest that there is a significant mental health crisis among older people which is not being talked about. This has become all the more evident in the aftermath of COVID-19 restrictions”.

The CEO continued, “Increasingly, we are working with older people who have completely cut themselves off from their family, friends, community and life in general due to fears around COVID-19 which have not subsided”.

The organisation has explained that “specific mental health policy, evidence-based programmes and research for older people must be committed to, funded, and implemented as part of Sharing the Vision, Ireland’s national mental health policy”.

ALONE also wants an action plan to help combat loneliness and social isolation in place to support older people to reconnect with their community.
