Choosing the right college is pretty important, and three Irish universities have just proven their credentials by ranking high in an evaluation of almost 1,000 colleges worldwide.

Trinity College, University College Dublin and NUI Galway have all improved their ranking on the list of top World University Rankings.

The list is created based on a number of factors, including employability for 2018 and academic reputation.

Voting is currently under way in the UK General Election, with polling stations opening across the country.

Heightened security has been introduced at some polling stations in the wake of the recent wave of terror attacks.

The campaigning for this election was suspended twice.

The first instance was after the Manchester attack at Ariana Grande's Dangerous Woman concert, during which 22 people were killed by a suicide bomber.

It was suspended a second time after the London Bridge attack, which saw seven people lose their lives.

The counting of ballots will begin when polls close at 10pm.

It is expected that there will be an indication as to whether Labour or Conservatives took the lead in this election by tomorrow morning.

Ariana Grande has lifted the suspension of the remainder of her European dates for her Dangerous Woman tour.

The star suspended her tour after 22 people were killed and a further 59 injured in a suicide bombing at her concert in the Manchester Arena two weeks ago.

Posting a snap of the Eiffel Tower to her Instagram, the star shared the news that her tour was back on the road.

'First show back tonight,' she captioned the post.

'Thinking of our angels every step of the way. I love you with all my heart.'

Following in the footsteps of Skins and Shameless, it now look like Misfits is the next Channel 4 show to get an American remake.

The new version is being developed by The OC and Gossip Girl creator, Josh Schwartz and a number of the leading roles have already been cast with Ashleigh LaThrop, Tre Hall, Allie MacDonald and Jake Cannavale all set to appear in the pilot episode.

The original series ran from 2009 to 2013 and gathered a huge cult following along the way.

Much like the original, the US version will follow a group of young delinquents, who develop super powers after being hit by an electrical storm.

It's thought that the new script will stick closely to that of the original, but unsurprisingly fans still have their reservations.

And who could blame them? We all remember the Skins disaster right?

This simple but seriously tasty snack is perfect for parties this summer! Check out the recipe below.

Serves 8

Cooking time: 15  minutes

Ingredients

Sea salt

Freshly ground white pepper

1 lemon/lime

150g plain flour

2tbsp of Cajun spice

8 Carr’s Mixed Grain Crackers

4 whole medium squid, prepared, with tentacles

Vegetable oil , for deep-frying

2 tbsp of mayonnaise

1-2tsp of chipotle sauce

Side salad

2 small courgettes (1 yellow and 1 green)

Rocket leaves

1 carrot for the dressing

2tbsp of good quality balsamic vinegar

2tbsp of extra virgin olive oil

1tbsp of honey

Method

In a large bowl mix the Cajun spice with the flour and stir to combine.

Wash and pat dry the squid, then slice and open out the tubes like a book.

Cut a criss-cross pattern onto the surface, then add to the flour along with the tentacles and toss well to coat.

Place a large, deep saucepan over a medium-high heat.

Fill three-quarters full with vegetable oil and allow to heat up.

To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a piece of bread or potato into the pan – if the bread/potato floats to the surface, sizzles and turns golden, it’s about right.

Shake off any excess flour from the squid, then use a slotted spoon to carefully lower into the hot oil (you’ll need to do this in batches).

Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until golden, crisp and cooked through.

Transfer to a double layer of kitchen paper to drain, then repeat with the remaining squid.

Mix the mayonnaise with the chipotle sauce and just ripple it.

Serve the mayonnaise on the Carr’s Multi Grain Crackers, slice the squid on top, then serve with some lemon wedges for squeezing over.

On the side, make the dressing in a jar or bowl.

Peel into the dressing in a bowl, ribbons of the courgette and carrot.

Scatter in the rocket leaves and serve on the side.

Internet funny man, Cian Twomey, has gained quite a significant social media following thanks to his short sketches and overexaggerated impressions of his girlfriend, but it looks like not everyone is a fan.

The cork native is regularly bombarded with negative feedback, however it seems one troll just took it a step too far.

On Tuesday night, Cian posted a screenshot of messages he had received from someone by the name of Kevin.

The messages used vulgar language, were highly insensitive and even made reference to Cian's late father.

Now, while unacceptable at any age, this type of behaviour would be expected from teenager, but as it turns out, these messages came form a 45-year-old man.

Cian explained on his official Facebook page: “I thought it was a kid. Turns out it's a 45 year old man.”

Not content with just responding to the messages directly, Cian did “what any other person would do” – he told Kevin's mother.

He finished the post by saying: "Don't mess with me big boy, I'll go telling on you whether you're 12 or 45."

So, basically, unless you want to deal with the wrath of an angry Irish mammy, don't mess with Cian Twomey.

No one would blame you for thinking that a tall americano has no place in the gym. After all, weight rooms are usually littered with empty water bottles and sweaty towels, not mugs and cardboard cups.

But why is is not so many fitness types have an unquenchable love for the black stuff?

Well, a new study has claimed that drinking coffee could actually help with workouts.

According to Metro.co.uk, Bruno Gualano, a physiology professor at the University of São Paulo, conducted research to see what effect, if any, caffeine had on physical performance.

The coffee lover and avid cyclist, split a group of male cyclists into three catagories – low caffeine intake (less than one cup a day), moderate intake (two cups) and high intake (three or more cups).

The groups then performed a series of trails where they had to cycle until they burnt 450 calories.

For the first trail, the participants were given a 400mg caffeine pill (equal to two cups of coffee).

It was then repeated, after the groups took a placebo pill, and then again after they had taken nothing at all.

The results showed that almost every single cyclist recorded their fastest time after they had taken the caffeine pill.

Infact, they averaged about 3.3 per cent faster when compared to taking no pill at all, and 2.2 per cent faster than taking the placebo.

Bruno reckons the results could translate into several minutes taken off total race times.

What's more, the group who regularly drank more than three cups of coffee a day enjoyed the same benefits from the pill as those with a lower caffeine intake.

But, before you start substituting your usual pre-workout beverage for a grande skinny latté, remember that large quantities of caffeine can be dangerous.

Bruno recommends starting small to see if you fitness regime benefits from the extra lift.

For those of you who watched Big Little Lies earlier this year, there's no denying that Nicole Kidman put her heart and soul into the role of Celeste.

Regularly abused by her husband – both physically and emotionally –  the outwardly poised mother-of-two sets about concealing the domestic hell in which she is living.

And if you found it almost unbearable to watch, the Australian actress found it even more difficult to act.

Reflecting on the role which won her new-found acclaim, Nicole revealed that the nature of the scenes she portrayed with Alexander Skarsgard left her traumatised.

Referring to one particularly harrowing scene, she told The Hollywood Reporter: "I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around."

"I just lay on the floor. I couldn't get up. I didn't want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc [Vallée, the show's director] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes."

Nicole went on to explain that those feelings didn't disappear with the sound of the director's clapperboard.

"I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside. I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door," she revealed.

Remembering a phone call she received that particular evening, her co-star, Reese Witherspoon, agreed that Nicole's role in the programme brought about a shift in her perspective.

"She says, "I've just done the craziest thing." Reese recalled.

"She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes and she goes, "I couldn't get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window…I don't do stuff like that.'"

Researchers from the Karolinksa Institutet and the Stockholm South General Hospital in Sweden have investigated the theory that many rape victims are unable to fight off their attacker due to a physiological reaction in a harrowing situation.

With many victims forced to face questions over their apparent 'lack of resistance' during a rape, researchers in Scandinavia sought to analyse the response of women during sexual assaults.

According to their research, the vast majority find themselves unable to move which subsequently blocks their ability to fend off an attacker.

The response is known as 'tonic immobility' and has been described as "an involuntary, temporary state of motor inhibition in response to situations involving intense fear."

Using 298 women, who had visited the Emergency Clinic for Rape Victims in Stockholm within one month of a sexual assault, researchers established that 70 per cent reported significant tonic immobility during their assault while 48 per cent reported extreme tonic immobility.

In the six months following the attack, 189 of the women were assessed for the development of PTSD and depression. Findings indicated that 38 per cent had developed PTSD while 22 per cent had developed severe depression.

The risk of developing PTSD increased by 2.75 if the victim experienced tonic immobility while the risk of depression increased by 3.42.

The study comes as welcome news in both the medical and legal worlds as researchers seek to highlight the importance of the finding.

Speaking to Broadly, the study's lead author, Dr Anna Moller, said: "The courts may be inclined to dismiss the notion of rape [if] the victim didn't appear to resist."

"Instead, what might be interpreted as passive consent is very likely to represent normal and expected biological reactions to an overwhelming threat."

"This information is useful both in legal situations and in the psychoeducation of rape victims. Further, this knowledge can be applied in the education of medical students and law students," she added.

The findings have been published in Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica.

Bad news guys. It looks like the days of the humble screenshot are coming to an end.

Whether you're sharing creepy messages with your friends or just getting a good laugh out of photos you forgot existed, the function is a source of endless entertainment.

And the best part is, (bar Snapchat) no one ever needs to know you've been secretly keeping records.

Well, that is until now.

See, Instagram have just released a new function which notifies people when someone has taken a screenshot of their photos.

Those traitors.

The new terrifying feature is currently limited to Instagram messenger, however, fans of the app believe it won't be long before it makes its way on to Instagram feeds.

So, just incase you were planning on sharing those cringey messages from your ex, maybe go for the copy and pastes option instead.

In the world of sweet treats, Oreo cookies are definitely on the top ten list.

And now, you can add them to anything.

The creator of the Cronut recently teamed up with the cookie brand to make Oreo Cookie Spread, and it looks totally delish.

Image result for oreos

Dominique Ansel (who we basically want to marry) created the spread in promotion of the #MyOreoCreation contest, a social media contest that lets Oreo lovers submit their idea for the next cookie flavour.

The spreadable dark chocolate ganache is infused with broken Oreo biscuit, and it even has a layer of milk ganache in the middle.

It's recommended to go on crepes and shortbread cookies, but come on… we're going to lash it on everything.

Unlucky for us though, it's only available in New York at the moment, and you can get it for FREE at Dominique Ansel's Bakery this week.

If you know an Oreo lover heading over to NYC, they need to see this now.
