Sometimes we have one rough night of sleep, and even worse, sometimes we go through a patch of little sleep for a few days – and we all know how mentally and physically draining that is.

It has been proven that women need more sleep than men and are more likely to to suffer from insomnia.

There are many tips and tricks around the Internet that promise you'll be asleep in ten minutes flat – but sometimes, the best remedies are the natural ones.

Tart cherries, for example, are one of the few foods that contain melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep cycles.

"Montmorency cherries contain the highest level of naturally occurring melatonin of any fruit, more than six times the amount found in similar Balaton cherries," says Michael Breus, author of Good Night: The Sleep Doctors 4-week Program to Better Sleep.

"We're discovering that tart cherries help people fall and stay asleep, without the side effects or medication interaction caused by other super foods like grapefruit," Michael told Woman's Day.

Unfortunately, tart cherries aren't the sweetest in the world, so Michael has come up with a smoothie to make it tasty (and effective):

Ingredients:

  • 60ml of tart cherry juice concentrate
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1 cup coconut or almond milk
  • 10 ice cubes

Method:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth. Finito!

Simple, huh? Bananas and kiwis are also known to be beneficial for sleep, and nut milk will help with any intolerances. Happy sleeping!

Noel Gallagher has admitted that he will reunite Oasis with his brother Liam – but it's not without a cost, and a hefty cost at that.

The musician told the Daily Star: "I’d do it for £20 million for one gig – that is good money isn’t it? But I have never had that offer from anyone yet.”

The group broke up in 2009 after Liam and Noel had a massive argument in Paris, just before they were meant to go on stage, which ended up with Liam swinging a guitar for his brother's head.

However, despite fans begging for a comeback, Noel has pretty much dashed all hopes of a reformation, saying in previous interviews that there's a "one percent chance" of a reunion.

“There would have to be extraordinary circumstances, cause I wouldn’t do it artistically, I don’t need the money, I don’t need the record sales. I can’t think of a reason that I would look to do that. What would be the point? I don’t know. I don’t see what the point would be.”

The Wonderwall writer, who is currently recording his third solo album also told the Daily Star: “Liam is a very angry man still. So he is not cool. He tends to make the easiest things really difficult."

Well, that's our hopes gone down the drain.

As a nation, we're definitely more up for the craic than the confrontation.

Whether it came to sibling rows or schoolyard bitchiness, rocking the boat or stirring the pot is something most of us were advised against when growing up, and woe betide anyone who went against an Irish Mammy's teachings, right?

And while that attitude may have stood to us at some points, it looks like this particular approach has definitely seeped into adulthood if recent research carried out by Lyons Tea is anything to go by!

So, we may fancy ourselves as a nation of foodies, but according to Lyon's Get It Off Your Chest campaign, a whopping 75% of us have actually kept schtum and ate up upon receiving the wrong order in a restaurant – Sacrilege, right?

Oh, and we may love nothing more than a good session, but 34% of us would feign an illness to get out of a social event while a further 16% would bemoan the lack of babysitter in order to flake out on the couch.

So, why are we so fearful about 'fessing up and getting it off our chest?

1. Lack of confidence

We caught up with Pauline Browne, Marketing Director for Lyons, who told us that as a nation we all fear being that ONE person who has an opinion on everything and makes no bones about voicing it.

Thankfully, us Irish are a creative bunch and quickly realised that tea is just another word for truth serum, with 80% of respondents admitting that they find it SO much easier to open up and pour it out if they're clutching a cup of tea between their hands.

2. Desire for the craic

Our nation's innate desire to be known as serious craic with top-notch banter can cripple us at times, and generally means we don't like 'fessing up if it will ruin the moment or take the good out of a situation.

Owing to this, the research showed that a staggering one-third of us will bail from a party the 'Irish' way ie. without saying goodbye to anyone, in case we're forever dubbed anti-craic by the others.

But unsurprisingly, we've learned that injecting a little humour into proceedings means we can speak the truth without being labelled a total buzzkill by half the group.

3. Fear of confrontation

With a whopping 40% of respondents admitting that they hate confrontation and will avoid it at all costs, it's no surprise most of us are prone to a white lie or two.

Pauline explained that "as a nation of 'uncomplainers', we'd rather avoid a sticky situation with a porky than put anyone out with the truth" – something most of us here at SHEmazing! HQ knew a little too much about.

Be honest (if you can!) and consider how many white lies our poor Irish Mammies were subjected to over the years. We know, we know, we were just protecting them, right?!

Yesterday, the peeps here at SHEmazing! HQ fell all over themselves for the Jumbo Jaffa Cake which the good folk behind The Happy Pear created in honour of National Vegetarian Week.

But immediately after we finished picking our jaws up off the floor and just before we turned vegan for life, Dave and Steve hit us with yet another dish which makes us wish we had even one-tenth of their talent in the kitchen.

Managing to combine our favourite dinner with our favourite dessert without going down the same route as Rachel from Friends, these lads have come up with the Vegan Chocolate Lasagne, and we are SOLD.

Free of refined sugar, milk and other processed baddies, this little gem is one serious winner.

When you think of Ladies Day at the races, what exactly comes to mind?

Hats big enough to camp under, ornate clutch bags that fit nothing but a lip gloss and sky-high heels made only for a car-to-bar totter? Oh yeah girls, us too.

While the tradition is longstanding and much-loved, there’s no doubt that it was definitely in need of a good shake-up which is why we’re PUMPED that Naas Racecourse have launched an alternative Ladies Day this year!

Taking place at the boutique racecourse on Sunday May 29th, us ladies have been told to make the most of the Fresh, Fun and Vibrant theme by ditching the old rules and showcasing our individuality, fun and flair.

Model, Daniella Moyles, and Irish fashion and accessories designer, Emma Manley, will be stepping up to the plate to judge on the day, and the winner of the best dressed will be awarded with a VIP Spa Stay for four in the Westgrove Hotel and a €1,000 shopping spree in the Whitewater Shopping Centre.

Runners-up on the day will enjoy spa packages and VIP race days at Naas Racecourse while a special prize will be awarded to a finalist who flew the flag for Ireland by wearing an Irish design on the day.

Not too shabby, right?!

With free registration, and admission just €15 a pop, this is your chance to show the judges and fellow attendees what you’re all about in the alternative style-stakes!

Ladies, it’s go-time.

First Dates Ireland has been a major hit since it aired nearly a month ago, and it's safe to say we all pick sides sometimes.

But, Sarah Hamilton, who appeared on the show last week has opened up about the online haters she's since attracted from being on the series.

Talking to Eoghan McDermott on 2fm, Sarah said: "You never know how people will perceive you.

"It's so unforgiving to be a confident woman and I don't understand why," she told Eoghan.

"I think sometimes people would rather you be a shrinking violet.

"For me, I went on the show thinking my friends are going to take the piss out of me for this and I didn't think about the wider audience," Sarah admitted.

"We are so scared to go onto something nd be normal. God forbid a woman who wear make-up, is writing a novel and has an MA. It is not accepted."

Many of us think that making a healthy meal is SO much effort – and usually after much debate we end up throwing a pizza in the oven for dinner. Not a good idea (and we all know it).

So, when a survey came through from Uncle Ben's, we couldn't believe how many of us lose our healthy eating intentions within a few days.

Eight out of ten of us think that it takes up to 30 minutes+ to prepare and cook a well-balanced meal, and 1 in 3 of us think it takes up to 45 minutes!

However, we sat down with super foodie Roz Purcell and dietician Orla Walsh, who both say that that's far from the truth.

When asked the most efficient way to prepare our meals, Orla believes that a good meal only needs a few minutes to go from pan to plate.

"You don't need all that time to prepare and cook. Uncle Ben's Rice & Grains takes two minutes in the microwave. You can stir fry vegetables, or anything plant based within a few minutes, too.

"And when you're in a rush, the microwave comes in really handy."

More statistics show that many struggle with inspiration when it comes to a healthy home-cooked meal, with three in ten of us cooking on autopilot for most of the week.

And we have to say that this can be a major struggle in Shemazing! HQ, so we asked Roz how to come up with different, yet tasty, meals.

"If you need some inspiration, Uncle Ben's have made a few videos of how to prepare really good meals. They're super convenient and it's something a bit different, too.

A video posted by Rozanna Purcell (@rozannapurcell) on

"Most people go straight to a stir-fry when cooking with rice and grains, but I made power pancakes which I eat before and after I work-out."

We like the sound of that! 70% of people believe that when they eat healthy, they feel more in control of their lives and it also improves their mobility – so, this has given us (and hopefully you) the extra push to start eating healthy, well-balanced meals everyday.

"The Ben’s Rice & Grains range is great as its healthy cooked wholegrains without anything nasty added to it. It’s so easy to throw it into the pan and it’s ready in minutes. I hope everyone tries my power pancakes recipe."

We sure will Roz, now to the kitchen!

If we remember correctly, Tuesdays nights were filled with Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and Prison Break – our favourite one of all.

For years, we used to watch protagonist Michael Scofield battle the law and come up with genius ideas of how to escape – and now, we get to watch him do it all over again.

This year, Fox are doing a Prison Break reboot which will see Michael trying to escape from a Middle Eastern prison.

It seems to pick up from where it left off in 2009 – with Michael dead – so we're really interested to find out how they bring him back to life.

The reboot is expected to air for nine episodes and nearly all of the original cast are returning. Yay!

We're super excited about this.

Chloe Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham made their red carpet couple debut last night – and it was everything you would have imagined.

The sweethearts posed together at the LA premiere of Chloe's new movie Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising.

Wrapped around each other for most of the evening, Chloe sported a very risqué dress, but we have to say, she pulled it off with class.

The actress was all smiles as well as she told E!: "Now, it's out. It's done. It's real. We're together and that's it!"

Brooklyn dressed in a white shirt, with a black tie and blazer, dark washed jeans and suede shoes – and the pair looked perfect together!

We can't wait to see some more of this lovely couple!

It has been four years (yep, that long) since Leighton Meester hung up her Gossip Girl hat, and she's finally making her way back to TV. Yay!

However, her latest role is quite different from anything else she's played before.

This time she's going back (and forward) in time, has a gun and makes hats out of bears. We kid you not.

Fox unveiled the first trailer for Making History this week, a new time travel comedy which sees a man travelling back in time to try keep American history on the right course.

Leighton plays a rebellious colonial woman, and we have to say, she's quite the opposite from her GG days, and we're not sure how Blair would feel about it.

Making History is produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (the same team responsible for The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street), which means it's going to be good.

But you'll have to wait a while, because the show doesn't premiere until next year.

Ah, Justin, it seems you just can't stay out of trouble.

Last month, the singer was being sued for $100,000 after he allegedly smashed a man's phone in a nightclub, and now, a new claim has been made against him which could cost him up to $650,000.

This time around, the 22-year-old is being sued by a promotions company based in Montreal as they're claiming he ruined their business with one single tweet.

The promoter, Team Productions, claim that Justin made a deal with them to do an appearance at a beach club last August, but it was utimately scrapped because JB didn't hold up his end of the deal.

TP allegedly paid the Biebs $250,000 when he signed on, and then he was promised another $175,000 right before the event.

However, they noticed that Justin wasn't promoting the gig on social media – even though that was a big part of the contract.

TP are now saying that Justin demanded the money or he wouldn't show up. Since JB didn't plug it on social media, TP wanted a discount (understandably). Negotiations began, and then failed, which lead to Justin tweeting on the morning of the event to say he won't turn up because the promoter lied. Ouch.

Team Productions are now saying it's been branded a liar and as a result no one wants to work with them and they think $650,000 is suitable in damages.

We wonder is Justin will make his way out of this one.
