Department store beauty halls are filled with shiny, magic products guaranteed to make us look and feel like a million bucks, so why do these places sometimes bring us out in a cold sweat?

Is it the sheer number of products available? Is it the probing questions we should know the answers to, but don’t? Or is it the feeling that we’re still playing dress-up and the glammed-up beauty assistant will know we confuse primer and highlighter at least twice a week?

We’re not quite sure, but here are just some of the obstacles we’ve faced when trying to re-fill our beauty bags.

If any of the below sound familiar, then it's time to admit you might need a little help when re-stocking your make-up collection!

1) Even though you’ve been wearing the same shade of foundation for the last six years, you always, without fail, forget the shade at go-time.

“Can I get it in… the light…orange?”

Tip: Ask the assistant to make a note of your shade for next time or take a photo of your empty bottle before you hit the shops to avoid a deer-in-the-headlights situation.

2) In a bid to hide the fact you only started using a foundation brush last month, you bring it up in conversation almost immediately.

“So what about those foundation brushes, ey? I’ve been using one since I was five.”

Tip: Stop bluffing.

3) When asked what you expect from your mascara, you nod confidently and reveal your preference.

“It should definitely go on the eyes.”

Tip: There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to these types of questions, but try to have an answer prepared so you get the most bang for your buck. Volumising? Lengthening? The choice is yours, but do know what it is!

4) Forgetting whether you actually use pressed powder, you panic when asked about your preferred brand.

“Oh you know the one, the standard powder…for maximum pressness.”

Tip: Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t use a certain product. Maybe you don’t need it!

5) When asked if you normally go for a green-toned concealer, you burst out laughing, nudge the assistant and assume it’s some kind of in-joke.

“Oh of course I do, ya mad thing….ehm, wait. Green?"

Tip: Admit when you’re unsure about a certain product or beauty technique, the make-up assistants will be delighted to fill you in; it is their job, after all!

The make-up counter can be a scary, overwhelming place at times, especially when you've spent the day shopping and can barely remember how to apply mascara, let alone know what type of wand you normally go for.

But it's important to be confident in your purchases (You're the one who's going to be wearing them, after all) so tell the assistant you're a little lost or totally woeful when it comes to shades and tones, and allow them to guide you.

They want you to feel your best, so admit your make-up weakness and let them help!

This isn’t generally the way we like our baked goods delivered to us but, hey, we’ll take it.

Jonathan Cheban and his BFF Kim Kardashian had a blowout fight on a recent episode of Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons that saw him throw a box of doughnuts at her and call her a b****.

The incident occurred when Kim accused Jonathan of leaking a story that Kourtney spoke to a therapist to which he fumes: “You don’t think I have anything better to do in my life? You’re a b****. Take the doughnuts, take my phone and go f*** yourself!”

Kim then finds out it wasn’t in fact Jonathan who leaked the story from her publicist and the pair kiss and make up.

This isn’t the first time Kim has accused her supposed BFF of being shady, as she previously thought he was planning on releasing a tell-all book about her, when in fact it was just a simple book about being her friend.

Perhaps think next time, Kimmy…

We’ve all heard of holiday romances that fizzle out the minute the couple return to normal life and J1 friendships that couldn’t stand the test of time back in rainy Ireland, haven’t we?

But have we thought about the friendships we attempt to forge with people we meet at parties or have we completely blocked out that horror?

We’ve all been there. Your friend promises to stay by your side at some alcohol-based gathering, but as you predicted, she ends up ditching you and creepin' on that guy like a cray-cray loon.

So what do you do?

You vow firstly to never forgive her and secondly to set your sights on the nearest other loser. (The first one being you, obviously)

In your happiness at actually having someone to talk to, you mistakenly conjure up a connection which should never have been initiated in the first place.

Here are the seven stages we experience when making friends as an adult.

The introduction
You’re standing alone, holding your coat.

They’re standing alone, holding the key to your treasure trove of jokes and anecdotes.

Excitement

This person doesn’t know your Ayia Napa story. They haven’t seen your Eamonn Dunphy impression.

There’s so much to share! There’s so much to give!

Adoration

How are you only meeting this person now?! Would you look at them at the bar, they’re GAS!

Shots? Yes! A common bond over Sweet Valley High? You know it!

Joy
One-to-one coffee next week?

Absolutely! Name a time, champ!

The meet-up
And then you meet up. It’s just the two of you. My God, this is like a date.

Why did you use all your best material the other night?

Embarrassment
Your real friends don’t make you feel like this. They let you repeat your stories.

They’re not constantly seeking the new! My God, give me a chance!

Mortification
Manners dictate you must suggest seeing them around again. Manners dictates they must suggest the same.

I’m never going to another party again. Where are my real friends?

There is set to be disappointment and sadness for fans of X Factor band Stereo Kicks as member Jake Sims has been snapped in a very compromising situation.

The Sun published a photo of the young boyband member “in a stupor after snorting potentially lethal Class A drug Ketamine.”

The photo is rather shocking as it shows the teen lying down with his eyes rolled back and his tongue hanging out of his mouth.

The photo is reported to have been from eighteen months ago, but it is clear the star will have some explaining to do if he is to take his singing career any further.

The photo is sure to upset fans of the band, many of whom are quite young.

The 19-year-old was also in the midst of a drugs controversy over several of his old tweets were found to contain references to illegal substances at the beginning of November.

Stereo Kicks left The X Factor competition last night after a sing-off against Lauren Platt which they lost out on.

It’s no secret that Jersey Shore’s Snooki tied the knot this weekend – and now she’s showing off her wedding bling too!

The reality TV star took to Instagram to share a sweet snap of her and husband Johnny LaValle’s wedding rings, writing: “Thank you to @bandbjewelry for our gorgeous wedding rings. We couldn’t be happier!”

We must say, the new bride’s ring is an absolute showstopper – and we are LOVING her nails.

Snooki and Johnny shared photos of their big day yesterday with Snooki opting for a ‘Great Gatsby’ themed dress which was beautiful.

The TV star also shared an update on married life with her new husband, which was typically hilarious as she tweeted: “Hungover with my husband. (That will not get old) getting mcdonalds and being slobs together. Waiting for walking dead tonight.”

It also looks as if Snooki – real name Nicole – has chosen to take on her married name and has changed her Twitter name to 'Nicole LaValle'. Aww!

The newly married couple have two children together, Lorenzeo (2) and baby Giovanna (3 months).

If you’ve ever squabbled with your other half on a crowded street or bickered childishly in front of friends, you've probably found yourself wishing the pair of you could be more like Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield.

Are we right? Yeah, we thought so. Us too.

This Hollywood couple, who have been dating since 2011, seem like the type you could meet for pints down the local, but also manage to personify old-school, head-over-heels, made-for-movies love.

How do they do it?

Here are just ten reasons we love this fab pair.

1) These signs

2) This look of love

3) This photobomb

4) This preppy kiss

5) This quote

“Then she came in, and it was like diving into white-water rapid and having no desire to hang on to the side. Throughout shooting, it was wild and exciting. I couldn't help but try to stay with her, keep pace with her, and not let her get away."

6) That choice of head gear

7) This adorable gif

8) This geek-fest gif

9) This quote

"He's obviously one of the greatest actors I think we have alive today, and he's also just a remarkable human being, so I love him very much."

10) This. Just this.

Sigh. Never change, guys!

Simon Cowell has blasted previous contestants of The X Factor as being fame-hungry.

The judge is seemingly sick of people using the competition as a way of gaining fame through any means possible: “There are people who come on this show who just want fame. They’ll do anything afterwards because that’s why they’ve entered The X Factor.”

Hmm, we wonder if Simon was referring to a certain Jake Quickenden, who entered the I’m A Celebrity jungle not long after his elimination from the singing competition…

He also defended contestants in the competition that are serious about music, such as Fleur East and Ben Haenow, saying they are genuine about making it in the music industry.

Simon also spoke about how he has enjoyed doing the show this season and says he hopes to expand the X Factor reach for new talent: “I still think we’re not looking everywhere for talent so I’m going to increase how we reach out next year, may take mobile units around the country. I want the net wider.”

Wow – it sounds as if The X Factor isn’t going anywhere for a long time yet!

In a prank worthy of The Simpsons’ Bart, a Galway man has played a rather epic prank on a Starbucks employee.

Claiming his name to be Horse Box (as you do) the poor barista has a bit of trouble locating the owner of the coffee as she calls out “Horse Box” over and over…

We're not sure why exactly he went for Horse Box (apart from its obvious origins as a greeting in many parts of Ireland). That said, it certainly made us laugh.

Angelina Jolie was involved in a frightening incident in Beverley Hills yesterday when the car she was travelling in skidded, hitting a curb and causing two tires to explode.

The actress was leaving the screening of her movie, Unbroken, at the Writers’ Guild Theatre when the frightening incident took place.

Angelina was later taken away in another car, though witnesses of the scene say they wouldn’t be surprised if she had suffered an injury: “It was pretty bad – the tire exploded and it’s amazing nothing worse happened to the car. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has whiplash.”

That sounds so scary, we’re glad it wasn’t worse than it could have been and everybody was okay!
