The gym is very busy around this time of year, as people attempt to get some last minute abs before they go away for their two week sun holiday. Spending more time in the gym, you can observe certain types of people who share the floor with you, and grow to hate them.

The Grunter
Whether the weights are actually too heavy or they just want to make it look like they’re working ridiculously hard, there is absolutely no need to be grunting like a woman in her 37th hour of labour.

grunting

The Overly Sweaty Guy
People sweat different amounts, and I accept that, but why is it that the sweatier a person is, the less likely they are to wipe down a bench or a machine after they use it?

The Shouter
Self-motivation is really important in the gym, for obvious reasons. But it’s called self-motivation, meaning that it can be done inside your own head. There is absolutely no need to shout at yourself for everyone else to hear when you’re struggling to complete your set, or congratulate yourself once you have finished said exercise.

The Social Media Addict
I’m totally against any posting of pictures or checking in at the gym, but as long as you do it without disrupting anyone else I suppose it’s not that bad. Doing it while sitting at a machine, however, is not acceptable.

The Naked Changing Room Girl
We’re all for people being comfortable in their own skin, but we don’t want to see naked girls ambling around the changing room.

The Talker
In the changing room, or out in the reception area, by all means talk to as many strangers as you like. They might not be up for a chat, but it’s far less annoying for them than going up to them during an exercise that they’re probably struggling with enough without having someone trying to become their new best friend.

talking

The ‘Expert’
No one has ever actually seen one of these people do any exercise. Instead, they prowl the gym floor looking  for people who look like they might be struggling and providing some ‘helpful’ advice about how what they’re doing is wrong and what they should do to maximise their workout.

Warning: NEVER follow any advice you get from one of these people.

The Machine Hogger
Much like at a hotel on holiday, this person will put their towel on a machine and then wander off to the water fountain or something, as if they are the only person who wants to use this particular piece of equipment for the next 20 minutes.

towel

The Poser
Mirrors are installed in a gym to allow you to see your form while doing an exercise, to avoid injury and maximise the effectiveness of the exercise. They are not there to tense your muscles or strike poses.

The Inconsiderate Asshole
Why is it so hard to put the free weights you were using back on the shelf where you found them?

asshole

The Beautiful People
It’s not really their fault that they’re distracting everyone of the opposite gender from whatever exercise they’re doing, but productivity just drop significantly when a particularly attractive person is in your eye-line.

distraction

The Inappropriately Dressed Person
I once saw a guy trying to do a workout in jeans and hiking boots. It annoyed me way more than it should have.

wrong clothes

The Show Off
Doing some ridiculously complicated exercise that would be impossible for the average gym-goer just because they’ve practised it for six months straight. They’re also usually in pretty good shape, which is also annoying.

The very first Good Country Index was published yesterday. The index measures what each country on earth contributes to the common good of humanity, and what it takes away. And Ireland? Well, we’re pretty great by the looks of things.

Ireland finished in the top ten in four of the seven categories and came first overall for outdoing any other country in the world with out contribution to humanity and the planet.

And yes, we came six places ahead of the UK and 20 ahead of the US.

Pretty great achievement, eh?

Almost everybody has, is, or will work in an office for some period of their life. You see your co-workers more than you see your actual family or friends. Here are the 11 worst things about working in an office.

1. Infectiously ill people coming into work
The worst of the worst. Chest infection, diarrhea or tonsillitis, this person will be in at 9am ready to start the day. Your boss loves him but the rest of the staff hate him. He arrives in spluttering everywhere, sending snot rockets flying in every direction. Go home for feck’s sake!

2. The guy who eats his smelly lunch beside you
He comes in with his packed lunch from three nights ago, nukes it in the microwave and then opens it up at his desk in front of you. At least your nose will only be doing backflips while his stomach will be the thing to suffer most!

3. Surviving a full Friday while hungover
Arriving in on a Friday after soaking up a happy hour and full night of drinking the night before is a mammoth task to overcome. Hanging on for dear life from 9am to 5:30pm only to go and repeat it all over again. Why do we do it?

4. Time going really, REALLY slowly
Staring up at the clock from your desk and watching the seconds tick – we’ve all been guilty of it, whether out of tiredness, boredom or near-insanity!

5. Having a cubicle
Working alone inside of a 8×10 cubicle can be as grim as your office life will get.

6. Awkward elevator rides
Making awkward small-talk in an elevator with a co-worker you barely know is excruciatingly painful! Nobody wants to talk about how windy it is outside or how many centimetres of rain fell over the weekend. Leave it out!

7. Noisy typers
The button-basher who proceeds to smash his keyboard out of it as loudly as possible with his gigantic sausage fingers.

8. Co-workers who are clueless about technology
Those co-workers you have to teach how to send an email, use the photocopier, and how to delete their web history for some reason? You really should know this stuff by now.

9. Being the new guy
Walking into your new job on the first day can be a daunting task. Awkwardly saying hello to everyone, trying to remember everyone’s name and pretending that you know what you’re doing.

10. The guy who stands behind you staring at your computer screen
The creepy guy who hovers above you from behind, breathing on your neck, and staring at your computer screen, without saying a word… You know who you are.

Uncomfortable

11. Meetings that drag on with no end in sight
Boring meetings which seem to trawl on for hours making you daydream about doing this…

Mila Kunis must have been having a bad day when Stephen Whitty of The Star Ledger met her for an interview. The journalist started out by asking the star how she was feeling, a common curtesy, according to him:

“Now, in most interviews, this question would normally just be a polite bit of throat-clearing. But here there’s a bit of genuine added concern on my part as she is pregnant.”

However, Mila didn’t take it well and replied coldly: “I don’t talk about that for publication”.

Whitty was taken aback by this as Mila has spoken about her pregnancy at great length to Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel and Marie Claire magazine. Obviously she’d had enough.

The interview continued to go badly when Whitty asked her if she was keen to take on more dramatic roles as a challenge:

“I hate when people ask me this question. People have this misconception that comedy’s easy…I’m always looking for challenges and I find a lot of things to be challenging. It can be the director, the producer, a lot of things. I just want to work with people more talented than I am that I can learn from.”

To top it all off, when Mila was asked about moving to the USA from Ukraine when she was seven-years old, she shut him down completely:

“I’ve talked about me moving to America in a hundred interviews. It’s the most mundane subject possible, it’s like everyone’s immigrant story.

“I know what your next question is so let’s just skip it. You’re going to ask me what I think about what’s going on now in Ukraine. Just because I lived there until I was seven doesn’t mean I identify with Ukraine.”

Ouch! We wouldn’t want to get on Mila’s bad side!

Kanye West is reportedly installing an in-house hospital in the mansion he shares with wife Kim Kardashian. The cost? A mere $3 million.

It is said that the rapper wants instant access to medical help for his family, but Kim believes he’s being too paranoid.

The in-house hospital will include an X-ray machine, CT scanner, ultrasound and blood taking facilities. A source said:

“The facilities will enable the family to monitor their sugar levels, cholesterol and blood pressure. They will also have a team of private doctors around the clock, daily visits from top nurses and a full paediatric team for North.”

Perhaps Kanye’s concerns stem from the unexpected death of his mother in 2007 after undergoing cosmetic surgery, but is he taking things too far?

While we’ve seen our fair shares of viral proposals, Laurence certainly set the bar high with his unique proposal to his girlfriend Rebecca.

Laurence was spotted popping the question to Rebecca with a pint of Guinness at Temple Bar on Monday. But this was no normal pint, as he had the special glass customised with his other half’s name as well as the big question itself.

Staff at Temple Bar have been sharing the happy moment on Facebook and Twitter: “We at The Temple Bar would like to congratulate Laurence and Rebecca on their recent engagement and wish them all the best for the future. The best proposal idea we’ve ever witnessed.”

Congrats to the happy couple, we can’t wait to see what they have in store for the big day!

Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio admits that she doesn’t like tan lines and has a particular way of avoiding them… and no, it doesn’t involve lying on the beach nude! Phew, thank God for that.

Talking to a New York fashion website, the model said that wearing a triangle top bikini and tie-side bottoms is the perfect way to achieve an all over glow.

She said: “If I could only wear one bikini, I’d have to choose a triangle top and tie-side bottom. Those are the best for tanning, but I would choose something different if I was doing water activities!”

However, not all of us have a model-esque physique that we can flaunt in an itsy bitsy bikini, so we may just have to learn to love our tan lines, if we’re lucky enough to get them!

The brunette beauty also admits that white is her go to colour for the summer “because it is so crisp and clean looking.”

Now, white is something we can do!

Nadia Forde has decided to branch out a bit and try her hand at being a pop star!

The model’s debut single BPM was released yesterday and is currently in the UK urban charts at number 22.

The 24-year-old model said that Bressie inspired the song after she saw one of his tweets complaining that all the songs in the chart have the words ‘dance’, ‘body’ and ‘hot’ in the lyrics:

“I decided to write a song with every single one of the lyrics he had in that tweet. So I did and I repeated them over and over and over again!

“So that’s basically how BPM came around. It was a really funny session. I think that in the charts at the moment there’s music that is all about enjoying yourself and that’s what BPM is all about. It’s a fun party track and it’s contagious, I love it.”

Check out Nadia’s music video to hear the song for yourselves!

Justin Bieber has been in a car crash in Beverly Hills after paparazzi chased the car he was a passenger in.

Eyewitnesses have said that Justin’s Escalade was driving fast to try and lose the paparazzi when a BMW pulled out of a parking lot. The Escalade smashed in to the BMW, but thankfully no one was injured. Apparently Justin got out of the car and was immediately driven away in a different car.

We’re just glad no one was hurt!

Whether it’s her relationship with Dougie Poytner or her yoga routine – Ellie Goulding seemed completely happy with herself in her latest interview for Self magazine.

The singer talked about life on stage and how she considered giving up her life in the limelight due to her panic attacks.

“I was torn between that really simple life and this life of madness. My brain was getting all these crazy signals, and I’d have these faux heart attacks that felt real. There was so much adrenaline being pumped into my body that, in any normal situation, I felt as if I had to fight or flee.”

Ellie went into more detail about her panic attacks would have an effect on her daily life.

“On my way to the studio, I’d have to cover my face in the car with a pillow. I couldn’t shop, couldn’t go outside, couldn’t see people, because there were just so many triggers. And I didn’t want to tell anyone, because I just felt so stupid. I never wanted people to see me as weak.”

But Goulding says she is now in a good place with her panic attacks and is in a happy relationship with Dougie.

“I’ve definitely met someone. You get to know someone who makes you very happy and then you go away (on tour), right when it was just getting somewhere awesome. It’s not fun, but we can make it work. Love is beyond everything, beyond the universe.”

There is a zipline in Spain that runs from Sanclucar de Guadiana in Andalucia to Alcoutim in Portugal and the hour time difference between the two countries means you are transported back in time by an hour.  Sounds cool, doesn’t it?

However, the 60 second ride is not for the faint-hearted, as you can reach speeds of up to 50mph as you zoom across the Guadiana River.

The 2,365ft zipline was created by David Jarma who said that: “Two villages in two countries, separated by a river 150 metres wide – a zipline just seemed obvious to me.  It also seemed like a great way to unite both places, since a bridge had been talked about for many years, but was never realised.”

The trip is not expensive and will only set you back 15 euros – although you don’t get to spend that much time in Portugal, as there is a boat waiting on the other side to bring you back to Spain.

Looks cool, but we’ll be keeping our feet firmly on the ground thanks very much.
