Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham is one celebrity who is not afraid to speak her mind.

The Girls creator and actress has spoken out about many things, from anxiety and OCD to feminist issues.

And her latest target? Lena has taken to her Instagram to speak about the stigmatisation of mental health sufferers and more specifically about the perception of people who take medication to control their illnesses.

Sharing a picture of a girl grabbing at a jars of pills, Lena's caption read: "Lately I’ve been noticing that nearly every pop cultural image we see of a woman on psychiatric medication is that of an out-of-control, exhausting and exhausted girl who needs help."

“But guess what? Most women on meds are women who have been brave enough to help themselves.

“It’s important that we see normalising portrayals of people, women, choosing to take action when it comes to their mental health.

Can I live?

"Meds didn’t make me a hollowed out version of my former self or a messy bar patron with a bad bleach job. They allowed me to really meet myself. I wish that for every lady who has ever struggled. There’s really no shame. Night, dolls."

The debut of the penultimate episode of Girls is only a few weeks away, and if the trailer is anything to go by, it's going to be FAB.

The four ladies seem to be moving on with their lives (kinda), but either way, we're guaranteed lots of laughs.

What we can guess from this trailer is that Hannah is finally on the way to accepting her body. Shoshanna is living it up in Japan, Marnie is sad (who would have guessed?), and Jessa is rolling out the practical advice to all of her BFFs.

AND, one of the best things is that Adam Driver is back in all of his furious glory. It was rumoured that he quit the show after becoming a Star Wars phenomenon, but alas, he's here to stay.

The beloved TV show, Girls, is in the midst of ending, ladies. *Sobs*.

E! News has reported that sources close to the show say that the ending is nigh and will possibly be wrapping up after season six.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise though, as Lena Dunham has previously said that she wants to leave it on a high note.

"[We're] not in the business of running it into the ground," Lena told The Hollywood Reporter

"We would like to end in a graceful place. And we'd like to tell a complete story. What that means is that we really have to start building towards an end soon, creatively."

Season five isn't premiering until February, so you better get ready for some epic story lines in the next two seasons.

Sometimes we just need that extra push to get ourselves off the couch and into the gym. Winter weather does not exactly make for the most appealing of conditions so it can be easy to avoid the sweaty business of jogging around the park in gale force winds.

However, the thoughts of showing off a brand new set of gym gear makes it seem far more appealing. Active wear is pretty much fashion gold these days and sure look there's no point in doing all those squats if you're not going to show them off.

Who better to look to for some gym inspiration then some serious fit celebs. They pull off the sweaty top knot and tank top combo and make it look effortless.

1. Lena Dunham

Co-ordinated gym gear FTW.

2. Alessandra Ambrosio

Basically all of the VS angels look amazing every time they hit the gym, which is often.

3. Gigi Hadid

We're still obsessed with these leggings, tbh.

4. Jennifer Hudson

Practical and chic, nailed it.

5. Hailey Baldwin

Ok, so the sports bra only look might get a bit chilly but if you have the abs why not show them off?

6. Shay Mitchell

7. Kate Hudson

She has her own range of athletic gear, Fabletics, so that explains how she never has to resort to that dodgy old t-shirt and possibly ripped leggings look.

8. Khloé Kardashian

Let us take a moment to appreciate her workout wardrobe. Expertly organised, of course:

At this point everyone has heard that introducing some cardio exercises to your fitness routine has plenty of benefits.

However, we have also heard that it is not the only way to kick start a weight-loss programme. In fact, many in the fitness industry are encouraging us to step away from the treadmill.

Including cardio in your routine increases heart health and helps to burn fat, but it might not be setting our metabolisms alight as we had hoped.

Too much cardio can raise your stress levels, and when your cortisol hormone levels are high, you won’t be able to lose the weight you want to.

Cadence Dubus, a NYC based personal trainer to celebs like the cast Girls explains:

"If you look at the New York Marathon, the majority of the people jogging by are chubby, and most of them have probably been logging 12, 15, or 20 miles a week."

This can be attribute to how the calories you burn increase as you move from a resting level of metabolism to an exercising rate of metabolism. So, going from a steady walk to a run for example.

Brooklyn Strength

This type of exercise can boost your metabolism for hours even after you have stopped exercising.

So, if you’re spending hours and hours a week on the treadmill sweating it out at a steady jog, then your metabolism will also stay at a steady rate.

Incorporating sprint intervals into your cardio routine can help avoid this.

Strength training is also recommended. Cadence adds that if you are exercising with body fat in mind, to remember that "building muscle is where you burn calories," says Dubus.

So if you’re looking for a more ‘toned’ physique, your treadmill addiction is probably not helping.

While fans may not be quite ready to say goodbye to the cast of Girls, Lena Dunham has already starting make plans for her next project.

Variety reports that the 29-year old will be producing and directing a new series for HBO about feminism in the Man Men era.

Lena is said to be writing and directing the pilot episode of the series, called Max. Set in 1963 in the middle of the rise of second-wave feminism, the series follows the story of a young female writer at a magazine.

Lisa Joyce

Maxine, who will be played by Lisa Joyce, is “an enthusiastic, if misguided, low-level magazine employee who stumbles into the forefront of a civil rights movement both she and the world may not be ready for,” reports Deadline.

Lena, who created Girls, is set to executive produce the series. Meanwhile, another writer/producer from Girls, Murray Miller, was responsible for writing the pilot of Max.

Recently, Lena's other venture Lenny Letter, made headlines after Jennifer Lawrence's op-ed was published. The essay, Why Do I Make Less Than My Co-Stars discussed the gender pay gap in Hollywood.

JLaw admitted that she "failed as a negotiator" because she "gave up early." She also explained that it was her desire to be liked which ultimately inhibited her ability to ask for money in fear that people wouldn't find her as endearing.

Her former co-star Bradley Copper has said that her essay was "a great thing" and he found JLaw's piece very interesting. In an interview he explained:

"One thing I could say is that's interesting because if you think that you only deserve a certain amount and that's not correct, it's about changing that mindset and sticking up for yourself ."

Some of you might know Grace Dunham, Lena Dunham's 23 year-old sister, from Lena's indie film Tiny Furniture.

She looks COMPLETELY different now though (this was her in 2010) .

For those of you that don't, she's a poet, activist and actress (yep, she's been confirmed to appear on the upcoming season of Girls).

Last night, Grace made her modelling debut at New York Fashion Week, walking in one of the coolest catwalks in town, Eckhaus Latta

Eckhaus Latta was founded in 2011 and is known as an underground fashion favourite.

The label are famous for using trans-gender models and are widely known for its sustainability and performance art-like presentations.

"I'm friends with Mike (Eckhaus) and Zoe (Latta)," Dunham told Elle following the show.

"I know them from around, and they just reached out and asked me if I wanted to do it."

But it seems like Grace didn't have a very eventful trip down the catwalk!

"I didn't have my glasses on, so I couldn't see anything."

"I was trying to think about what Mike said. He was like, 'Chain from the top of your head to the ceiling, shoulders back, walking like you're like you're listening to music."

In the show, Grace took part in #freeingthenipple campaign, but it didn't stop her from killing it on the runway.

"It was cool; I don't mind showing my boobs," she said.

When Lena Dunham took to Instagram a couple of months back to tell the world she had realised exercise was a better cure for her anxiety issues than medication ever could be, we knew there were changes afoot for the actress/writer.

Now the Girls star has revealed that she's loving her fitness routine even more, after a friend encouraged her to go to a running training session. Posting a paparazzi photo of herself running through the streets of New York to Instagram last night, Lena wrote, "Not usually one to post a paparazzi shot but this fills me with pride. Basically my whole life I have hated running and run like a wounded baby Pterodactyl."

A photo posted by Lena Dunham (@lenadunham) on

The actress said her fear of running was "embarrassing" and joked that she didn't trust herself to "escape a burning building or even move briskly towards a buffet." However when Girls' executive producer Jenni Konner suggested that Lena's character Hannah Horvath develop a love of running on the show, the real life Lena had to follow suit.

"@jennikonner is directing the season finale of Girls and decided that as Hannah evolved so would her run, so she got me a training session with Matt Wilpers from Mile High Run Club. Within an hour I had a different relationship to this formerly torturous activity. I felt strong, swift and proud," the actress wrote.

"I'm not about to embrace that triathlon life but it's a true joy to continue getting more connected to my body and its powers."

Although she still maintains her curvy frame, Lena is looking fitter and more toned than ever, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the papped running shot. After all, how many of us can say we'd look that put-together in a candid shot of us running down the street in our workout gear?

As well as jogging, Lena is also an advocate of celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, and often works out at her New York studio, saying Tracy's workouts have shown her "the light."
