girl’s night

It’s Netflix night. (OK, every night is Netflix night, but this is Netflix movie night) so it’s time to chill-out, chow-down and choose the perfect flick.

If you have managed to do all three of those things without an argument, an interruption or a complete emotional breakdown, then teach us your ways because the rest of us experience something a little more like this.

1. Saying sayonara to your diet, you ring the local takeaway and order every greasy thing on the menu.

We'll start again on Monday

2. Pulling off your skinny jeans (with a little help, if necessary) you scramble through your laundry for your biggest, baggiest sweats.

3. Diving onto the couch, you sprawl across your friend’s lap and pull your hood over your head.

Time to vegetate, people.

4. Clicking on Netflix, you begin casually browsing while chit-chatting about the impending food delivery.

Movie nights are so relaxing, right?

5. Pausing and reading the description of every second film is beginning to stress you out a little because it seems like present company has seen every single thing on the menu.

Em, why are you here exactly?

6. Opening your brown paper delivery bag, you see they’ve forgotten your prawn crackers…again.

I swear, they hate me.

7. OK, back to the matter at hand; the movie!

Uh, why can’t we just watch Bridesmaids again?

8. No, we are not watching something with subtitles.

Go home, jackass.

9. How have we finished our food and we still haven’t pressed play on a movie?

It’s like they’ve written, directed and starred in every film and can’t bear to see themselves again.

10. For God's sake, what is wrong with watching a horror?

Sometimes I wonder why we’re friends.

11. I wonder if eyeballing wine is really as dangerous and disgusting as it sounds.

My film-hating friend hates me more than my prawn cracker-hating delivery man.

12. It’s now been ninety minutes and we’re still on the menu page.

Honestly, is this normal?

13. Oooh! OOOH! Something they haven’t seen, starred in or directed!

Ladies, we have a winner.

14. I suppose it is late, alright.

OK, grand, we’ll watch it next time so.

15. Screw this.

I’m going to bed.

Can't wait for next week's Netflix fest!

With miserable weather setting in, there's no doubt that you want to sit in with your girlfriends for a cosy night of fun.

Going to a night club means you have to dress up, put on tan and make up AND style your hair. #Effort.

All of it will go down the drain anyway while you wait 20 minutes to queue for Coppers.

So if you're having a girls night in, we have some scrumptious party food ideas that will have your friend's mouths watering.

We warned you!

Fancy Mini Potato Skins

This delicious treat is perfect comfort food for you and your BFFs. Loaded with your favourite toppings, the girls will keep wanting more!

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

To add a bit of spice to your night, why not try these bacon wrapped poppers. Full of crunchy, hot goodness, it's the perfect snack for movie time. Not to mention they will definitely warm you up from the cold weather outside!

Mozzarella Sticks

We know what you're thinking, you've either tried the frozen kind or the McDonald's kind, and they weren't all that great. Don't be put off! With this simple homemade recipe, your taste buds will be watering all night long. Remember to buy quality mozzarella though, to make them that little bit more special.

It’s Friday night and the last thing you want to do is sit in front of the telly watching The Late Late Show. Again.  But you’re broke. So what’s a girl to do?

Well you don’t need to be flashing the cash to have a good time with your friends – here are a few things you can do that will guarantee a good night:

Have a movie night
Get everyone to bring a bag of something and order a pizza. Instead of heading to the DVD store to rent a movie, just get one off Netflix. Even if you don’t have it we’re pretty sure at least one of your friends does…

Have a natter
Invite the girls over for tea or a glass of wine and a natter. You don’t need to go out and spend a fortune on an expensive bottles of wine either – Lidl have very reasonably priced ones. A few crisps and you’re sorted for a night of girly gossip.

Board game night
When was the last time you sat down and played a board game with your family, never mind your friends? It might sound a little cheesy but we guarantee you will have a laugh – just make sure you keep the competitive streak in check.

Bake off
Be a little creative and have a bake off. It doesn’t have to be anything really complicated – biscuit cake is always a winner.

Just don’t drink
If your friends are heading out and you’re really sick of missing out on the fun just be the designated driver. And the best part? You wake up without a hangover!

If you’re planning a girly night in this weekend and want to have some cocktails, why not try these three tasty creations?

The yummy cocktails have a vodka base, which means it cuts down on price and that is always a good thing! Get everybody to bring something and the ingredients won’t seem so daunting.

1.) Moscow Mule

  • 55ml vodka
  • 230ml ginger beer
  • 50ml lime juice
  • lime wedge, to garnish

2.) Flirtini

  • 85ml champagne
  • 14ml vodka
  • 25ml pineapple juice
  • fresh pineapple, to garnish

3.) Harrowgate Nights

  • 25ml vodka
  • 25ml malibu
  • 14ml peach schnapps
  • 110ml pineapple juice

Soooo much easier than a regular banoffee pie, and with no waste. Adjust the ingredients according to your number of guests. Whip up this dessert in minutes for an impromptu girls night in, decadent and rich but so, so simple.

What you’ll need:
Serves 4

  • 4 small bananas

What you do:

  1. Slice the bananas and divide them evenly between the glasses.
  2. Sprinkle the crushed biscuits over the banana.
  3. Pour 1 tbsp of caramel over each dessert.
  4. Add 2 tbsp whipped cream to each dessert.
