If you’ve been looking at your kitchen lately wondering where it all went wrong, then perhaps it needs a bit of a revamp. And if you’re going to go to the bother of doing it up, why not pick a theme? Themes are the best! Here are our favourites!

Italian
We’re not sure we could have an Italian themed kitchen without craving a big bowl of spaghetti bolognese every time we walked in, but if you think you could handle it, the Italian look is really nice and homely!

Nautical
If you live by the sea, or if you just like the colour blue, a nautical themed kitchen is really fresh and inviting. Accessorise with ropes and sea shells – lovely!

Organic
If you want your kitchen to be a natural beauty, why not try an organic theme? We bet having a theme like this would help keep you motivated to eat healthily, a pizza box just wouldn’t look right on that table!

Country
Everything sounds better when you put the word ‘country’ in front of it – country soup, country produce, country kitchen. You’ll be just dying to whip up a few freshly made apple tarts in a kitchen like this, leaving them out on the window sill to cool, like the good old days (or just reheat the one you bought in the shop and hide the evidence!).

Modern
If you’re looking for a cool, sleek interior design, then a modern kitchen is just the thing for you. This is a clutter-free zone.

Retro/Vintage
Want to feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine every time you go to make a cup of tea? Well, maybe it won’t be so extreme, but a retro kitchen will surely provide a blast from the past for your parents! It looks really cool too!

What would a bedroom or sitting room be without a few cushions thrown around for extra comfort? They can make the most boring room into something really special if you get the right ones. So if you’re looking at your sofa wondering what it’s missing, it could be one of these amazing cushions…

Floral cushions
These cushions are just so pretty and would go perfectly if you have a brown sofa. We love the intricate details!

Round Cushions

Who ever said that your cushions need to be square? These round velvet cushions are the perfect shade of pink and are sure to add both comfort and a touch of luxury to your sofa setting!

Book pillows
Is your reading corner lacking in comfort? Perhaps these book pillows would be the perfect addition – falling asleep while reading your book will be at least ten times more comfortable with these!

Colourful cushions
We would LOVE to see these in an all white sitting room or bedroom. They’d add a great sense of character too – and you COULD tell people you made them yourself if you wanted…!

Guitar cushions
Forget air guitar – what you want is a soft, cuddly, cushion guitar. Great for parties, no doubt!

Reading cushion
Quite possibly the best invention ever. We really need this!

Jigsaw cushion
We know this is probably for kids, but we don’t care. So comfy – but challenging too (kind of….)!

Poetry cushion
Add a bit of culture to your sitting room with some poetry on a cushion – so cute!

Cactus cushion
Last but not least, horrify friends and family my throwing yourself on this cactus cushion (may only work for particularly gullible friends!).

Shabby chic is the new ‘must-have’ look for homes.

However it may not make much sense to redo your home just for the sake of home style – especially if you are renting. There are some easy ways you can add the shabby chic element to your home.

1. Antique frames
Old photo frames with an antique look will give a sense of shabby chic and if they aren’t expensive you can add lots to your collection!

2. Distressed wood
If you have a chest of drawers that is a dark wood colour that you are sick of looking at, why not undertake a shabby chic DIY project? There are many ways to paint your chest of drawers and then give the feel of distressed wood.

3. Flowers
Flowers give a sense of ambience to any room. Pick some up and put them in a pretty vase to instantly uplift your home.

4. Vintage furniture
Get into vintage shopping and you are sure to find some gems for cheap.

5. Pastels
Shabby chic is all about light colours and pastel hues with a retro, vintage feel.

6. Teacups
Think of a vintage tea party and create a whole new teaset for yourself. You can build it up slowly as mismatched pieces are even more trendy.

It’s difficult to study or work from bed (no matter how hard we try) because we associate it with sleep and rest.

In the same way, it is difficult to study or work in the living room because we normally watch TV and switch off mentally in there.

A space needs to be created in which you can stimulate yourself and be in full mental capacity. Use our tips to make your creative space a haven.

1. A window
A space with a window means you will be able to air the room efficiently and this will drastically improve your concentration. Rooms that are hot and stuffy may feel cosy but will also make you feel sleepy.

2. Plants
Having one or two plants in your study/work space will allow the air to be purified as well as aesthetically pleasing. See which plants require the least attention.

3. Inspirational quote
Hang up some inspirational quotes, either your own ones or famous ones, to remind yourself what you are working so hard towards and what you want to achieve.

4. Brightness
A bright room with lots of natural light will be more enjoyable to work in as well as more stimulating for the mind. Light coloured furnishing and walls will help you concentrate better than darker colours which are more associated with relaxing.

5. Noticeboards
Use one noticeboard for important reminders and another for more fun things like photos of friends and family, funny quotes, cinema stubs etc.

Interior design changes and evolves with each passing decade – but which decades did it worst?

1. Victorian
So grand and vast, the rooms were huge, the colours rich and everything looks like it can’t be touched. Not that it isn’t pretty or impressive, but it’s not very practical these days is it?

2. 1970’s
The mustards, the browny-oranges, the weird shapes that took over everything? No, no and no.

1970's

3. Contemporary/2010’s
White and minimal. Where does all our stuff go? Homes look more like hospitals these days!
