Annabel Croft has paid an emotional, final tribute to her Strictly Come Dancing partner.

The former tennis player departed the Strictly competition over the weekend, narrowly missing out on a place in this Saturday’s grand final.

Annabel and her professional dance partner Johannes Radebe lost out in the dance off to EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier and his dance partner Dianne Buswell.

After saying a fond farewell to her Strictly journey, Annabel has now shared a final message to Johannes.

The 57-year-old, who took part in the hit BBC show in honour of her late husband Mel, chose to post several snaps of herself and Johannes.

“Thank you for being my partner over the last few months. You have become more than just a dance partner – You are a best friend, soul mate and rock,” Annabel gushed in her caption.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to dance in your arms and be taught by you every day for the last 12 weeks. Your patience, expertise, kindness, care, sense of humour and everything else, made every dance rehearsal so enjoyable! You really are a ray of sunshine,” she added.

Annabel concluded her sweet message by writing: “Thank you for everything. Not only will I miss dancing with you, I’m going to miss your infectious laugh and joyful energy that I was lucky enough to experience every day. Heres to many more fun times ahead xxxxx Love you so much.”

Many Strictly viewers have since taken to Annabel’s comments section to express what her dance journey has meant to them.

“Forever such a special partnership and friendship. Adore you both,” one fan replied.

“I think you have both been gifted something much more precious than a glitter ball. Well done on achieving so much, being semi finalists is an awesome thing,” another added.

Strictly Come Dancing concludes this Saturday on BBC One at 7pm.

If you’re a self-conscious person, you may have noticed how your skin texture changes along with the changes in season. Unfortunately, winter months usually entail a colder climate, leaving your skin drier due to dry air. As a result, both males and females typically complain about parched, dry, and itchy skin during the entire winter season. Before the cold climate wreaks havoc on your skin, try out different ways and tips to hydrate your beloved skin.

When the temperature drops, humidity also drops, leaving a drier atmosphere for everyone. Although humans have different skin types, many experience having their skin condition in a less-than-ideal one. Thus, it’s best to know what to do before the colder months will come.

Apply the tips below to keep your skin hydrated and plump during winter.

Use Oil-Based Moisturizers

You may be using moisturizers even before winter, and your skin will thank you for that. However, in the winter, you should use moisturizing face oils. These oil-based moisturizers will keep your skin hydrated and help get it conditioned despite the dry air.

No matter where you go, whether you decide to stay home or go out, it’s best to apply these moisturizing face oils. You remove your skin’s natural oils when you wash your face, hands, or body. Therefore, it’s crucial to replace these oils since they’re vital to keeping moisture in your skin. Hence, moisturizing your skin after you wash it is imperative, especially during the wintertime.

Keep a small travel-size moisturizer near your sink and keep a big bottle of moisturizer beside your bed or closet. Now, for dry areas, such as hands, feet, elbows, knees, and lips, overnight treatments that provide deep moisturizing can be considered. Make sure that cotton gloves and socks are worn to help prevent moisture from escaping.

Consider Having An Air Humidifier In Your Home

In arid climates, the skin gets drier. To keep your indoor air quality moister and more humid, buy a humidifier and use it in your home areas where you spend the most time in. The cool air humidifier helps keep the skin’s barrier hydrated by increasing the moisture in the air. You should also keep the heater set to a moderate level so that your home’s indoor air won’t become so dry.

Use Gentle And Fragrance-Free Skin Cleansers

Using the wrong soap can aggravate dry, itchy skin. And, with the winter months, someone who already has dry skin could have a much drier skin condition. In addition, the ingredients and fragrances in regular bar soaps can irritate your skin. So, it would be best to bypass these cleansers and use fragrance-free, moisturizing, or gel-based ones.

Additionally, winter skin problems can be prevented by eliminating soap in areas of the skin that are prone to drying. You can limit the use of soap only to areas that need deep and thorough cleansing, like the armpit, legs, and feet. But, as for the face, use non-drying skincare products or do some double-cleansing to get rid of radicals and leftover cosmetics.

Don’t Disregard Wearing Sunscreen

Despite not having strong sunshine, it doesn’t mean you should forego using sunscreen. Even during the wintertime, the sun still entails UV rays that may cause skin damages. Especially when you’re out to play in the snow, go skiing, or snowboarding, it’s best to wear sunscreen. In addition, dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen even when you’re just inside your home.

Also, don’t be deceived by darker, grayer days during the winter. Although clouds block the sun’s harmful rays, they can still damage the skin. So, make sure that all of your exposed skin is protected with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 20 or higher before you go outside during the winter season.

Change Your Diet

The gut is directly connected to skin health, which may explain the beneficial effects of consuming more fats. This, however, doesn’t refer to unhealthy fats that could lead to higher cholesterol. Fats, in such context, mean you can change your diet by eating more food that contains olive oil, avocados, walnuts, and almonds. You may also try to avoid diuretics, like alcohol, coffee, and other caffeinated drinks, as they’ll only cause dehydration. To replace such beverages, it’s best to go natural and drink more water instead.

Winter is a time when not only your face but also other exposed parts of your body become flaky, itchy, and dry. This is primarily due to dry air and lesser humidity. With the tips mentioned above, you can avoid having these skin conditions.

Moisturizing your skin frequently with appropriate products is key to keeping your skin healthy. It’s vital to choose the right cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen, and consider having an indoor humidifier so your skin can retain its moisture all day long.

Before her first son arrived, Dr. Doireann O’Leary had some concerns about how the demands of motherhood might impact her skin, hair, and nails. To proactively address these concerns, she delved into researching supplements with a strong evidence base for enhancing the skin’s radiance.

However, she couldn’t find a brand without added ingredients such as biotin, which can cause acne and disrupt lab test results, potentially leading to the misdiagnoses of a heart attack and thyroid disease. She also faced another challenge in her search: finding a tasty collagen powder! Most collagen supplements were in pill form, too, requiring a twice-daily intake—something she knew she couldn’t fit into her schedule.

Recognising the huge potential to harness the abundant resources of our native shores, Dr. Doireann collaborated with a local team in Wexford to manufacture her bespoke hydrolysed marine collagen and Vitamin C under Supplements Made Simple.

Following months of development and testing, Dr. Doireann first launched her Marine Collagen with Vitamin C daily supplement in July 2023. She knew once people tried it, they’d love it – because she herself had experienced visible results after taking it for six months. Not only that, but with a refreshing taste and simple dose, it suited her busy lifestyle.

Her initial launch was a great success. Now, less than four months down the road, Dr. Doireann is not only relaunching her inaugural evidence-based Collagen and Vitamin C under Supplements Made Simple, but also introducing a fresh innovation – Collagen Plus with Vitamin C. This addition provides customers with a variety of flavours and dosage options, enabling them to tailor their choices to their unique skincare needs and goals.

“The original strawberry and lemon flavour Marine Collagen with Vitamin C has been hugely popular with my customers; they’re seeing results for themselves with increased skin radiance and elasticity, reduced fine lines and wrinkles as well as improved hair and nails,” says Dr Doireann. “The evidence shows that doses ranging from 2.5g to 10g of hydrolysed marine collagen achieve cosmetic dermatological results”.

Both the original Marine Collagen with Vitamin C and the new Collagen Plus with Vitamin C are manufactured using science-backed hydrolysed marine collagen, include vitamin C for added collagen matrix support, are scientifically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles whilst increasing hydration and elasticity of the skin, and can be taken at one to two sachets daily, meaning customers can take doses of 2.5g to 10g, depending on their preferences.

The Supplements Made Simple range is developed personally by Dr. Doireann and is scientifically proven to improve health. The full range includes Vitamin D, Folic Acid, Omega 3 Fish Oil, Magnesium, a Vitamin D3 Spray, a Vitamin B12 Spray, the bestselling Marine Collagen with Vitamin C, and the brand-new Collagen Plus.

Collagen Plus, €54.99 for 30 sachets, Marine Collagen with Vitamin C, €39.99 for 30 sachets, and the full Supplements Made Simple range is available in pharmacies nationwide and online at supplementsmadesimple.ie.

DSPCA Christmas Appeal

In Rathfarnham the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), the nation's premier animal welfare charity, has initiated its Christmas fundraising drive. The DSPCA, aiding over 3,000 animals annually—ranging from cats and dogs to horses, rabbits, and snakes—is urging the public to embrace the ethos of "Be A Good Human" by contributing to secure vital funds. This financial support is crucial for the DSPCA to uphold its commitment to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome all animals under its care. Unfortunately, the charity witnesses a surge in abandoned animals before Christmas, intensifying the challenges they face. A collective effort to "Be A Good Human" can create a positive impact and alleviate the plight of animals in need. Together, let's strive for a world where no animal endures unnecessary suffering. There are many ways to support the DSPCA this Christmas. From shopping at the DSPCA online store to donating, every contribution will make a difference. More here.

Irish Refugee Council’s Christmas Appeal

Amid declining international protection standards and accommodation shortages, the Irish Refugee Council launched its Christmas fundraising campaign. With 62 protection seekers left unaccommodated, facing risks of harm and far-right agitators, the Council responds to an unprecedented 267% increase in demand, supporting 11,000 people in 2022. Anticipating a winter surge, the Council, aided by Irish generosity, previously supported 400 people left without accommodation. Accommodation standards deteriorate, eroding the dignity and rights of those seeking protection. The Stand for Hope and Dignity appeal aims to ensure that those fleeing wars find safety and support upon reaching Ireland's shores. The Council's Fundraising Manager, Deirdre Mullen, emphasizes the crucial unity needed to address the challenges faced by asylum seekers and calls for public support. Irish Refugee Council’s Christmas Appeal can be found here.

GOAL NextGen

GOAL NextGen, a division of GOAL the humanitarian aid organisation, launch their X-Change project with a global creative collaboration designed to elevate and connect the voices of the next generation in a changing world.

The collaboration is an original song, titled ‘Spark’, written by Irish/Ivorian singer Celavidmai and Evan Flaherty & Darragh Purcell from Irish band Scoth. The song celebrates how a united global community can nurture hope and positivity amid an alarming mix of crises across the world. Collaborator Ethiopian saxophonist Gene Tesfa adds a touch of soul to the piece. The track is produced by DJ & producer Edna Martinez from Colombia.

The song is accompanied by a music video and a short behind-the-scenes documentary created by THINKHOUSE, that incorporates a striking visual piece from designer and illustrator Grace Enemaku, who drew on her Irish upbringing and Nigerian heritage to create a piece of art inspired by ‘Spark’ that shows how we are all connected to each other and the environment and, how ultimately, we need to work together for the common good. Irish Hospice Foundation ‘Never Forgotten…Forever Loved’ Christmas Fundraiser

The Irish Hospice Foundation is a beacon of compassion, supporting those facing life-limiting illnesses and bereavement. Through their impactful initiatives like Nurses for Night Care, they provide comfort and dignity to individuals and their families during challenging times.

In addition to this core service, they also provide support to those dealing with loss and grief through their Bereavement Support Line.  The service aims to provide solace and support to individuals who have lost a loved one, friend, or colleague, allowing them to openly discuss their grief and loss.

Donations to the Foundation play a crucial role in sustaining these vital services. By contributing to the ‘Never Forgotten…Forever Loved’ fundraising drive or buying something from their online shop, you are not only supporting the provision of expert care but also honouring the memory of loved ones. This festive season, a donation to the Irish Hospice Foundation becomes a profound gift, fostering a legacy of kindness and assistance for those navigating the difficult journey of life-limiting illness and grief.
