Yearly Archives: 2023

Today the red carpet was rolled out to mark the official launch of Ireland’s ultimate dog paw-ty, Pups in the Park 2023. Following the unprecedented success of its 2022 events, Pups in the Park, brought to you by Leader Dog Food, is back for 2023 in the iconic location of Dublin’s Marlay Park and for the first time, in Cork’s famous Showgrounds venue. The Marlay Park, Dublin event will take place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April, while the Cork Showgrounds event will be held on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April.

Presenters of Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio Breakfast Show Colm Hayes and Lucy Kennedy were on hand to support today’s announcement. Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio is the official broadcast partner of Pups in the Park 2023.

This year, the paw-ty themed event expects over 12,000 dog lovers and their canine companions to walk the red carpet over the course of both events. Visitors will once again enjoy a fun-filled line up of doggy-inspired events and attractions including new additions such as ‘Dancing Dogs’ hosted by Crufts favourite Anne Shuker or returning favourites such as the Puppy Play Pen, the Leader Bark Park, the Hay Bale Race or the Petinsurance.ie Obedience Ring. The hugely popular Chin Wag Talk Stage is also back for 2023, where the dogs as well as the humans can learn some new tips and tricks.

For the Dublin event, this special canine festival has renewed its charity partnership with The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), Ireland’s leading animal welfare charity, while the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, the national charity dedicated to enabling people who are vision impaired and families of children with autism to achieve improved mobility and independence, has come on board as the official charity partner for the Cork Showgrounds event.

The DSPCA and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind will have a presence on site at this year’s events with the returning DSPCA Dog Show & Sniffari in Dublin and the brand-new Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Fun Dog Show in Cork. With a range of fantastic prizes up for grabs, including a coveted Pups in the Park Rosette plus the opportunity for visitors to show off their fluffy friend and provide funds to support the important work of both charity’s, what’s not to love! Registration per dog per category is €3 with proceeds going directly to the DSPCA and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Event goers can register online or book at the event. In a further commitment to these partnerships, guests will also be able to donate €2 to the Dublin and Cork charity partners when booking tickets.

The Leader Main Arena will once again be hosted by pop singer/songwriter Jake Carter and will boast an exciting line up of sessions, including the Breed Meet Ups, a doggy-designated event for a host of breeds including collies, dachshunds, golden retrievers, frenchies and more, to play together while the humans can meet fellow dog owners.

The good news doesn’t stop there! Pups in the Park offers a range of ticket price concessions, including OAP rates, ensuring pups and humans of all ages can join the paw-ty this year.

Commenting on the announcement, Jo Matthews, of Equinox Events said, “We are delighted to be bringing Pups in the Park back for 2023. We have been blown away by the interest in the event from canine lovers from every corner of the country, which is why we are particularly excited to host an event in Cork for the first time. The team has once again created an unmissable experience for both dogs and humans and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are honoured to have the DSPCA returning as our charity partner for the Dublin event and to have onboarded the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind as our charity partner for Cork. We look forward to welcoming visitors, both new and old, to Pups in the Park to enjoy a great day out while also raising much needed funds for two very worthwhile causes."

Colm Hayes and Lucy Kennedy, Presenters of Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio Breakfast Show added, “As two avid dog lovers we can’t think of a better way to treat our four-legged besties then running around a park full of other fabulous dogs, all making friends and learning new tricks. Hey, we may even learn a few new tricks ourselves!”

Alicia Coyle of Leader Dog Food concluded, “Leader Dog Food are delighted to be returning as headline sponsors of Pups in the Park, as it hosts its second event in the iconic Marlay Park and also its first Cork event in the famous Showgrounds venue. It really is such a fun day out for dogs of all shapes and sizes. The festival programme this year is jam packed and we are thrilled to bring back the Leader Bark Park.”

Shirley Ballas has been addressing some big questions!

Following last year’s season of Strictly Come Dancing, it was rumoured that head judge Shirley might not want to return to the show in the future, following the level of trolling she has previously received.

During an appearance on This Morning earlier today, the 62-year-old was confronted by hosts Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond, as they asked if Shirley will be back this year.

Credit: ITV

“Well, we're waiting for that invitation and once it gets there and we sort it out…,” Shirley teased in response.

The professional dancer then went on to explain why she enjoys taking part in Strictly. “I love the job, I love the actual critiquing,” she beamed.

“I love to get tips and help people along the way, to move forward to be beautiful dancers and all that they can be,” she added.

However, Shirley seemingly then went on to confirm that she would be involved in this year’s upcoming series, as she hinted at some celebrity contestants that have already signed up for the competition.

“But the lineup for sure – just when you think it can’t get any better, it does!” she exclaimed.

In a recent interview with The Mirror, the head judge admitted how difficult the 2022 season had been for her.  “Last year I was struggling. It wasn't just a little bit, it was a lot – the majority of it was in silence,” she shared.

“I felt the abuse snowballed out of control and impacted me in such a negative way. I'm a pretty stoic person, and I tend to hold everything in,” Shirley continued.

She also noted that the trolling she received reached its peak last year. “That was an all-time low since I joined the show – it was the most negativity I'd ever experienced. The BBC were brilliant, checking in on me and offering counselling and support,” she praised.

At the time, Shirley was asked if she had considered leaving Strictly. “It was a difficult series, I'll leave it at that… Will I go back to Strictly? I always take one step at a time,” she concluded.

When asked if she is feeling ready for the birth of her baby girls, Dani answered honestly.

Danielle Armstrong has shared an update on her experience with her second pregnancy so far.

The former The Only Way is Essex star announced she was expecting her second child in January of this year and has now updated fans on what gender she thinks the little one will be, name ideas she has and what her plan for the labour is.

Speaking to OK!, Danielle revealed her pregnancy symptoms this time around are so different from when she was expecting her two-year-old daughter, Orla, that she is convinced she has a little boy on the way.

“In the first 10 weeks I was probably hard to live with. Really bad sickness, tired, aggy, but I’m so different now and actually feel like I’m enjoying the pregnancy”.

“The first time round was completely different. I had sickness until 28 weeks and this time has been so much better. That’s why I feel like this could be a boy”.

Danielle and her husband Tommy won’t be finding out the gender of the baby during her pregnancy but already have ideas for boy names.

Armstrong revealed that if her little one does turn out to be a boy, she wants to name him Luca but Tommy would rather name their son after himself.

“I get why dads do that, but I like it that he’s my Tom. Girls’ names are so easy. Orla is such a pretty, girlie name. And my dad’s called James so I’d have the middle name James”.

After a gruelling 72 hours labour with her daughter, the former reality TV star said she doesn’t have a birth plan this time around but is sure she won’t be trying hypnobirthing again like she did with Orla.

“I’ve got no birth plan. I’m just going to rock up when this baby’s ready to come out and roll with it”.

“It’s going to come out one way or the other. I do think there’s something that happens in the female’s brain, where we forget birth, because no one would ever have one [again]”.

When Danielle announced she was expecting her second baby, she shared the sweetest video to her 1.3M Instagram followers of her having scans done and showing her bump to her toddler.

The 34-year-old captioned the post, “Baby Edney No2… Oh we can’t wait to meet you. We are absolutely over the moon that we will be adding another bubba to our family summer 2023. I know Orla is going to be the most amazing Big Sister”.

Linda Nolan has shared a heartbreaking update on her battle with cancer as she has been diagnosed for the fourth time with the disease.

Known for being a member of the singing group The Nolans with her sisters, Linda has been very open about the tragic news she received from doctors just last week.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain this morning, Linda revealed that her cancer has spread to her brain.

“Unfortunately, sadly for me, my cancer has now spread to my brain which I only found out on Monday”.

A post shared by Linda Nolan (@thelindanolan)

She continued, “That’s obviously very frightening because there isn’t much help for brain cancer at the moment, apart from radiotherapy which I'm going to be having”.

“There is a new drug that's been in use for a year for brain cancer, and we're going to try me on that as a chemo drug, with some other treatment”.

“I’m not giving up, I’m positive. I’m going to lose my hair again for the fourth time so my sister said, ‘At least you’ve got some nice wigs now’”.

The 64-year-old then explained that she has moved back in with her sister Denise as the brain cancer was affecting her balance and she had three ‘nasty falls’. Linda also said, “I bought a wheelchair. We’re getting stuff ready for the inevitable really”.

Nolan then described the diagnosis as a, “Really, really scary trip to be on, this one”.

When speaking about symptoms she was experiencing before her diagnosis, Linda revealed she was ‘hoping it was something to do with her spine’, rather than her brain because she said, “My speech hadn't been affected or my vision. I wasn't getting headaches”, which would typically be more common symptoms of the disease.

After her interview on GMB, Linda took to Instagram to thank her fans for their messages of support.

“Thank you to everyone else for all the lovely messages, I couldn’t do it without all your support”, she wrote, “Next stop, radiotherapy tomorrow!”.

The singer was previously diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, before discovering she had hip cancer in 2017 which had spread to her liver in 2020.

The solicitor for the couple recently arrested in relation to the Kerry Babies case has shared an insight into the investigation.

Padraig O’Connell, who is based in Killarney, has been representing a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, following their arrest last Thursday.

The couple were arrested in connection with the Baby John case, which has been unsolved since the discovery of the infant’s body on White Strand beach in Cahersiveen in 1984.

The couple have both since been released without charge, and their file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

White Strand, Cahersiveen

Solicitor O’Connell has now spoken out about how it could be a “long time” before they know the outcome of his clients’ DNA tests.

“Arresting somebody on the basis of DNA is totally different to arresting somebody on suspicion of murder,” he stated.

Mr O’Connell then went on to describe his clients in detail.

“The allegation against them is from the Gardaí, yet these are people who have never been in a garda station in their life. They don’t even have penalty points,” he admitted.

“They have never even been fined for parking on a double-yellow line,” he added. "They are hard-working, extremely community-driven people who are now open to all sorts of speculation, and this is just not appropriate, in my view.”

Credit: TheJournal

Mr. O’Connell also shared his dislike for how the Gardaí interviewed his clients. “They were arrested, interrogated – in what was an oppressive interrogation – then they were released,” he explained.

“They haven’t been charged, and we await hearing from the DPP, and that could take a long time – months,” he said concerningly.

Lastly, Mr. O’Connell confirmed that the couple willingly gave their DNA samples. “They gave a sample to Gardaí voluntarily and we await the results,” he noted.

“Until such time as DNA results come back, I hold my fire, and it would be wholly wrong to do otherwise,” he concluded.

“There's a grand auld stretch in the evening” and to celebrate, Camile Thai Kitchen today announced details of Ireland’s first National Good Mood Day. Taking place tomorrow, Tuesday 28th March, the occasion aims to bring people together through the power of food; developed in response to a recent survey conducted by the award-winning Irish restaurant group where 70% of respondents called for its creation!

From tomorrow customers can enjoy a celebratory 15% off the entire menu for a limited time only as sharing food with friends and family topped the poll of mood boosting activities for over 94% of those surveyed. The Irish owned restaurant group is also marking the inaugural festivities with the launch of the all-new Good Mood Honey Duck Stir Fry.

A nutritionally certified source of mood and energy boosting vitamin C, this healthy new stir fry dish will feature succulent honey roast duck, stir fried with broccoli, pomegranate, spring onions, and mint in a ginger-sesame sauce – enriched with the sweetness of 100% locally sourced OpenHive honey, produced by Camile Thai-supported native Irish honeybees.

Good Mood Honey Duck Stir Fry

In today’s busy world, it can be easy to overlook the simple pleasures of sharing food with friends and while this activity increased the happy hormones of nearly all respondents, other popular mood-boosting activities included listening to music, spending time with furry friends and exercise to decompress from stressful working days.

With the majority of those surveyed (93%) welcoming the ‘feel-good’ factor of brighter evenings and longer days as the clock ‘springs forward’, National Good Mood Day is the perfect opportunity to engage in some mood boosting activity, with 15% off the entire menu giving customers the chance to take a break from the kitchen and enjoy their favourite Camile Thai dish, for less.

The new mum had promised in recent days that she would film a Q&A video soon, responding to questions that her 7.5M followers had asked on Instagram. However, Molly-Mae ultimately ended up sharing a completely different side to her.

In her video, titled ‘The truth’, the Pretty Little Thing influencer spoke about how she has been struggling.

“I just feel like there is so much to say and there is so much to discuss and talk about, that I feel like I literally don’t even know where to start,” she stated at the beginning of her video.

Molly-Mae admitted that she had been filming her Q&A video for around two hours, but that she was beginning to have self-doubts.

“I feel like I’m questioning everything I’m saying, I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, what are people going to think if I say that?’ because I’m trying to be so transparent and so real about the last two months of my life – but I’m also really scared to do that," she spoke candidly.

Molly-Mae then began to tear up as she revealed that she no longer feels like herself. “I’ve just been trying to talk, and nothing is coming out,” she said. “I feel like what I’m saying isn’t making sense and my brain is jumbled and my brain just isn’t my brain anymore. I just don’t feel myself, you know?”

The mum-of-one went on to add that welcoming baby Bambi has been a challenge. “I would say that becoming a mum is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, but it’s also the hardest thing that’s happened to me – like, wholeheartedly, I have found it really, really hard,” she said to the camera.

“The one word to describe the last two months would be ‘overwhelming’. I have been so overwhelmed, like every single day,” Molly-Mae concluded in a final thought.

Ashley James has revealed the name she and her partner of over four years, Tommy, have chosen for their newborn daughter.

The former Made in Chelsea star welcomed her second child, a baby girl, into the world earlier this month.

Ashley has now spoken to Hello! about the moniker they chose for their new addition and the special meaning behind the unique name.

Sharing that their baby girl’s name is Ada Isabella Blue Andrews, Ashley explained, “We thought Ada was a really beautiful name and I was also inspired by Ada Lovelace, who was a famous mathematician and scientist. She was hailed as inventing computer programming and Tommy works in tech, so we liked that link”.

“Isabella is named after my gran who is an amazing woman, and we chose Blue because Alfie's middle name is Rivers and I love water references”, the DJ added.

Ashley also revealed how the couple’s two-year-old son, Alfie, has been finding having a newborn in at home.

“Alfie has actually been amazing – a lot better than we thought because typically he prefers older kids”, the Mum's the Word! The Parenting Podcast host admitted.

“He'll give her lots of cuddles and kisses and keeps saying 'baby sister'. We have to be a bit careful because he's quite over enthusiastic but he has shown her so much love”.

The 35-year-old then opened up about her labour experience. “Seeing her for the first time was surreal. And I definitely did have that 'love at first sight' feeling, which I didn't have with Alfie, probably because of how traumatic it was. I was very excited but mainly just grateful she was okay”.

“We both felt really emotional. She was crying but the moment they put her on my chest she stopped so it was like, ‘Oh, she recognises her mummy’”.

James announced her baby girl had arrived with a sweet photo of the tot holding her thumb posted to her 335K Instagram followers.

She captioned the post, “Just wanted to let you know that our baby girl is here. We are both happy and healthy and we're all so in love”.

“We're taking some time to enjoy this newborn bubble and connect as a family of 4. But I can't wait for you to meet her”.
