In the wake of the tragic passings of former Love Island stars Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, the ITV show have considered their aftercare that they offer the contestants.

Mike, who took part in the 2017 series of the show, was found in a North London park last week, with police confirming he died by suicide aged 26.

Sophie was a contestant in the villa in 2016 and her body was found at her parents home, in June 2018 – she was 32-years-old.

Tributes poured in for the pairs the times of their deaths, with former co-stars calling for a stronger support system to be put in place for when the emerge back into the real world after a summer on the show.

The show’s producer Richard Cowles wrote to The Metro that, ''When something so awful happens we naturally enter a period of soul searching and ask whether anything could have been done.''

Richard went on to outline the system in place – there's three key stages; pre-filming, filming, and aftercare.

He wrote, ''We work with both an independent GP and a psychological consultant to provide an assessment of the physical and mental health of each of the shortlisted cast members and their suitability for inclusion on the programme. The medical team also contacts each Islander’s GP to check they feel that person is able to take part. We ask for full disclosure from potential cast members to these health professionals so that so that we can support them appropriately.''

He continued, ''Care continues whilst the Islanders are in the villa. We have a medical team on location which includes a psychological consultant. They not only look after Islanders’ healthcare needs, but also monitor them to check that there are no emerging signs of any problems developing whilst they are in the villa.''

However in light of Mike's passing, changed are being put into place.

Richard wrote, ''This review has led us to extend our support processes to offer therapy to all Islanders and not only those that reach out to us. And we will be delivering bespoke training to all future Islanders to include social media and financial management.''

He added, ''The key focus will be for us to no longer be reliant on the islanders asking us for support but for us to proactively check in with them on a regular basis.''

Fellow Love Island stars Jess Shears and Dom Lever are among the stars who have hit out at the ITV show for it's lack of care.

Jess posted on social media that, ''Shows offer you “support” but realistically it’s only while you are in their care. Minute you get home & are no longer making them money it’s out of sight out of mind. There should be ongoing support & also financial advice. Life after these shows isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.''

We hope that with these revisions in place, that future tragedies can be avoided.

Vogue Williams is a mum to little Theodore and he is by far one of the cutest babies we’ve ever seen so we weren’t one bit surprised to hear the mum had been eager to expand her brood.

With a baby as cute as Theodore, how could you not want to have another?

Vogue and her husband Spencer Matthews welcomed their baby boy in September 2018 and it’s safe to say they’ve been loving every second of parenthood so far (apart from the famous four months sleep regression.)

Here’s how to wear your favourite pair of jeans to work

Take a peek inside the wardrobe of any woman and you’re likely to find at least one pair of jeans. It is, after all, an essential designed to withstand every season and trend. Recently, jeans have even made their way into offices, cutting through the corporate red tape and becoming a staple for working women everywhere. But, of course, the key to wearing jeans at work is styling and knowing how to walk the line between professional and casual. Wearing jeans shouldn’t be an excuse to look like you’re simply out shopping, and despite the more relaxed dress codes in offices across the UK; there is still the need to look professional. That said, here are some tips to keep in mind.

Layer up

Jeans undoubtedly look good on their own, but are fantastic when worn with other thoughtful layers. Take your cue from former US First Lady Michelle Obama. One of her signature looks involves her favourite frayed jeans and blazer combination, which she has taken from television shows and meetings, to the boardroom and on to the streets. This is one pairing that will have you appearing presidentially cool any time of the day.

Pair with dressy shoes

Because jeans are already a deemed casual, try mixing and matching them with other clothes that are more on the high end. Heels, for example, immediately upgrade your entire ensemble. They go well with wide leg jeans — a vintage cut reminiscent of your mother’s stylish youth. Fortunately, they’ve recently made their fashion comeback, as showcased by the different kinds of wide leg jeans listed on Woman Within. These types of jeans are ideal if you’re looking for something nostalgic, while the heels serve to add a touch of sophistication. We suggest simple, strappy heels, or sultry pointed toe pumps for the best effect.

Classic button-down combo

Just like jeans, a classic button-down never goes out of style. Wear them together and you’ve got an outfit that is timeless with an understated elegance. The silk button down shirt from Everlane is a nice bet for its luxe material, which provides a nice contrast to the rougher denim. It’s also a classic look that lets you experiment with different shirt colours and patterns, depending on your mood. With outfits like this, there’s no need to change for after-work drinks and events.

The darker, the better

If light wash denim is synonymous with relaxing summer days, dark wash denim is its more serious — but ten times sleeker — older sister. Go ahead and try a versatile black shade, or choose blues on the deeper end of the spectrum. Actress Olivia Palermo nails the look with a pair of dark blue denim jeans from AG.

Keep it clean

Remember our previous tip here on SheMazing? A reliable rule of thumb when getting dressed for work is to toss it if it’s something you can’t imagine your boss wearing. Sadly, your ripped denim jeans probably fall under this category. While ripped jeans are trendy and chic, save them for the weekend and stick to clean-cut denim for work instead.

Irish brand Waxperts has been making waves in the beauty world in recent years and are rapidly becoming one of the most popular waxing brands across Europe.

Waxperts was established in 2008 when owner Ellen Kavanagh Jones along with friend and business partner Trish O’Brien began the journey of creating their own wax, the only of its kind in the world.

And since then, it’s been our haven for getting a wax – something before Waxperts, that we dreaded.

So first off, lets talk about what waxing actually is.

It is a method of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root.

Waxing not only removes hair, it also exfoliates the skin – double win!

Waxing also lasts much longer as shaving only removes the visible hair on the surface of the skin whereas waxing removes hair from the root allowing two- six weeks (depending on the individual person) for hair to grow back.

As waxing removes hair from the root, this in turn weakens the hair follicles, and therefore overtime hair will grow back thinner.

And leaves us with silky smooth pins.

The Waxperts Original Hot Wax is fab – it was formulated for sensitive skin types to achieve a smooth, pain free, easy wax with little to no redness afterwards.

Waxperts Wax was formulated to be applied thinly, so it would then glide off during removal and leave no sticky residue behind.

Waxperts has a unique waxing technique to make waxing easy for therapists, and as comfortable and pain free as possible, almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face and bikini area.

It’s pretty much the wax of dreams tbh.

When it comes to waxing, there are so many myths that we all kinda believe – but Ellen is here to set us straight.

MYTH: “Waxing is super painful”

Not with Waxperts Wax! Obviously pulling hair out from the root is going to be a little bit uncomfortable whether you are waxing, plucking, epilating, sugaring or threading.

With Waxperts Wax, we use lower temperature waxes with a range of pre and post oils to protect and soothe skin to make any wax treatment super comfortable.

Sounds perf to us.

MYTH: “I can’t get waxed on my period”

This is untrue. (Phew!)

Of course, you can get waxed on your period, just make sure you have a fresh tampon in.

However, some people may be a little more sensitive during this time of the month.

MYTH: “I need to trim before a wax”

No, you should never trim before getting waxed.

For waxing to be most effective, the hair would need to be a least a grain of rice.

We always say the hairier the better! Leave it up to your wax therapist to make the decision on trimming.

And with that, we’re off for a wax.

Playground Injuries – Why Are They Dangerous and What Can Mothers Do About Those?

Playgrounds and outdoor areas for children are a fun and entertaining method to keep your children active and engaged with others their age. However, as entertaining these areas might seem, making sure that your child’s safety is not endangered or compromised is mandatory each time you reach the playground.

Yearly, more than 200,000 children are treated in emergency rooms for playground-related injuries. With proper supervision and proper playground equipment, all these injuries can be easily prevented. But how can parents proceed when their children fall victims to similar injuries due to faulty playground equipment? Below are some tips and tricks that might help you prevent such injuries and some insightful pieces of advice on how to proceed in case of similar accidents.

Adult Supervision

Adult supervision is the first line of defence against playground injuries. Adults should make sure that all playground equipment is in a proper state before letting their children use it. Also, parents should make sure that their children have proper behaviour when using the equipment at all times.

Children are unable to approximate correctly distances and speed and are more likely to injure themselves or others on the playground. Foreseeing dangerous situations and acting accordingly is not a capacity young and sometimes older children have. this is an acquired skill that needs practice. As they grow, children like to push their limits on the playground and this is when dangerous situations might appear.

Also, not all pieces of playground equipment may be properly taken care of. Once again, children are unable to assess the state of the playground on their own and unfortunate accidents may also appear. Playground inspection before all sessions is an important part of keeping young children safe. When faults at the equipment are identified, parents should get in touch with the local council to repair the damage and create a safe play environment. If the council is informed and doesn’t act accordingly, in case of an accident, they may be liable in case of an injury claim.

When evaluating the safety of a playground, parents should assess the space design and spacing as well. According to no win no fee solicitor experts, the claims for playground injuries have increased in number significantly over the past few years. Most of these claims are well-founded and win in courts because of the fact that local councils plan and design play areas in a hazardous fashion. Let’s see below which are those factors that influence a playground’s safety.

When assessing playground safety, parents should ensure that no other threats are present. According to specialists in injury claims, dog bite injury claims also skyrocketed over the past few years. This means that when usually assessing playground safety, parents overlook dogs. Even when properly trained, dogs might have unexpected behaviour around children.

Surfaces

When assessing playground safety, parents should pay increased attention to playground surfaces. When these are well picked, injuries are due to decrease in frequency and severity. The surface of the playground should be soft and thick enough to attenuate the impact in case children fall, but it should also have enough adherence to prevent slip and fall injuries. When assessing the safety of playground surfaces, pay attention to the following.

Concrete and asphalt, as well as blacktop, are hazardous surfaces. They shouldn’t be part of playground design. However, if you notice playgrounds in your area with similar features. In case of accidents, the local administration might be liable in a personal injury claim. Surfaces that might look softer, like grass, soil or packed earth are also hazardous. Weather changes will reduce their ability to act as cushions in case of falls.

The playground should not present debris or standing water, tree roots or rocks. Children will stumble upon items of this kind and injure themselves.

Loosely filled surfaces shouldn’t have materials like wood chips, gravel, sand or shredded rubber. Make sure that the playground visited by your child is not loosely fitted with wood chips since these show high concentrations of copper arsenate and pose a potential health hazard for children of all ages.

Safety mats and rubber mats should be present on all playgrounds. These are safety-tested and have shown high levels of efficiency in preventing serious injuries in small and older children.

Design and Spacing

If ever confronted with a playground injury, parents are advised to pay attention to playground layout in case they want to fill an injury claim. All playgrounds have to follow a strict design and spacing regulations. All equipment should be split into three categories, by age. Infants and toddlers under two, two to five-years-old (pre-schoolers) and two to twelve-years-old (school-age kids). In safe playgrounds, areas for these group ages should be clearly delimited.

Guardrails and protective barriers should be installed in place for all elevated platforms and surfaces, including ramps.

All play structures higher than 30 inches should be spaced at least 9 feet apart.

Playground equipment with moving parts should be located in separated areas.

Parents should ensure there are no spaces in playground equipment that could trap their children’s head, legs or hands.

Teaching Children About Playground Safety

Safe playground equipment and adult supervision are mandatory, but so is teaching your child how to properly use it as well as some things about playground safety. Parents should ensure that their kids follow some safety rule when using playgrounds.

Children should never push or be rough n other children while using jungle gyms, slides, seesaws, and swings.

They should use the equipment properly: they should never climb outside guardrails, they should always slide with feet in front on slides and they should not use swings while standing.

They should always ensure that no kids are in their way when using slides or if they are going to jump off equipment. Teach them how they should land when jumping off equipment: knees slightly bent, landing on their both feet.

When using playground equipment, teach your children to take off their helmets, even if they were using their bicycles beforehand.

Making sure children are safe while using playgrounds is the responsibility of those who built and approved the playground, but also the parent’s responsibility. In case the playground was poorly designed, parents can sue the public bodies responsible for building it and win in a personal injury claim. However, professional lawyers and solicitors are always advised in the process.
