Who else spent hours on end creating images on Paint?

We don't even really remember the sort of pictures we made on it, but nevertheless, we played it every single time we had to wait for the dial up connection to the Internet (ah, the good 'ol days).

It was the first computer app we really sunk our teeth into as kids, and now after 32 years, Microsoft is erasing it.

In the next Windows 10 update, Paint will be shelved into the deprecated features list.

However, according to Sky News, there will be another graphics program making its way onto Windows 10 – the 'new generation' Paint3.

We're interesting to see what the new version will be like, but one thing's for sure, we'll mourn the loss of the original Paint.

Speaking at a press conference in the last hour, authorities have confirmed that of the five people attacked, two are seriously injured.

Local media outlets report that the individual was carrying a chainsaw, but police did not confirm this during the conference.

The town of Talkeetna in Alaska is this week coming to the terms with the death of its mayor; a 20-year-old cat named Stubbs.

The town, which lacked a human municipal office, elected the cat into office by popular vote in 1997, and according to emerging reports, the cat's popularity soared in the years that followed his election.

So it was with heavy hearts that Mayor Stubbs' adopted family, the Spones, shared the unwelcome news that the cat had passed away.

In a statement shared on Twitter by a local reporter, the Spones who own Nagley’s General Store in the town, paid tribute to the cat's countless attributes.

“Stubbs lived for 20 years and 3 months," they wrote. "He was a trooper until the very last day of his life; meowing at us throughout the day to pet him or to come sit on the bed with him and let him snuggle and purr for hours in our lap. "

The Spones, who adopted the cat in 2015, paid tribute to the positive impact Mayor Stubbs' presence had on their family.

"We were "warned" of all the publicity that Stubbs would bring to Naley's Store, West Rib Pub& Grill, and to Talkeetna," they wrote.

"No one could imagine the notoriety that Stubbs had," they continued. "Over 75 per cent of visitors ask' Where's the Mayor?' or come in with this statement 'I have an appointment with the Mayor.'"

The lengthy statement concluded with the touching words: "Thank you, Stubbs, for coming into our lives for the past 31 months; you are a remarkable cat and we will dearly miss you."

"We loved the time we were allowed to spend with you," they added.

The Twitter post has been inundated with tributes to the late animal, with one person writing: "My condolences to Mayor Stubbs' family. He was a great and honorable cat and mayor."

While some say Instagram is a realm for negativity and low self-esteem, others are taking small steps to turn it into a place of positivity.

With artists turning 'flaws' into art and encouraging women to be happy in their bodies, new research has found that following plus-size models on the site is really beneficial.

Ashley Graham and Iskra Lawrence have been making waves in the industry for years now and use their platform to encourage women to be more body confident, and it turns out, it's working.

New research from Florida State University saw scientists study a group of 40 women aged between 18 – 22.

All of the women described themselves as wanting to be slimmer, or wanting to loose weight.

The beginning of the study saw the women looking at images of models of various sizes. They were then asked questions about their own bodies.

The study's lead author, Dr Russell Clayton explained to Grazia: "By measuring psychophysiological responses during image exposure, we were able to gain insights into the real-time cognitive and emotional responses that unfold when women are exposed to different-size media fashion models."

When the participants were looking at images of slimmer models, they said they had low self-esteem, and weren't very body confident.

However, when looking at curvier models the women "experienced enhanced psychological health and higher body satisfaction."

"We found overwhelmingly that there is a clear psychological advantage when the media shows more realistic body types than the traditional thin model," added another researcher.

"Women made fewer social comparisons, felt increased body satisfaction, paid more attention to and remembered average and plus-size models.

"Therefore, it might be a useful persuasive strategy for media producers to employ plus-size models if the goal of the campaign is to capture attention while also promoting body positivity."

We're all for that.

As of September of this year, Meteor customers will officially become known as Eir mobile customers.

Meteor, which was acquired by Eir 12 years ago, serves approximately 750,000 mobiles users across the country.

Aware that the announcement may spark concern among its thousands of users, Richard Moat, CEO of Eir, insists that the rebrand will have no effect on contracts or mobile plans.

"This decision reflects the confidence we have in the eir brand. The transition will be seamless, and Meteor customers will continue using their mobiles exactly as before," he said in light of the announcement.

"Meteor customers may not have realised that they are part of a much bigger network, and they should be reassured that they can now take full advantage of all of the possibilities that come from being an eir customer."

“By focusing on a single mobile brand and reducing the duplication of supporting two brands, we can offer better value,” he added.

Meteor customers will receive a DM or text message confirming the transition, with further information provided on meteor.ie and eir.ie.

At this stage of the game, we're all well aware that a protein-rich diet makes for a healthy lifestyle.

From ensuring a full feeling to encouraging muscle gain, the benefits of protein cannot be underestimated.

And yet recent research has indicated we may be unwittingly undoing all its good if we opt to team a protein-rich meal with a sugary drink.

According to a study conducted by BMC Nutrition, opting for a sweetened drink with a protein-based dish can actually have a negative effect on our metabolism and ultimately encourage the build up of fat.

(And yes, that is the sound of us weeping.)

Placing 24 participants in a metabolic chamber on two separate occasions, researchers sought to analyse the way the body processes nutrients, how it uses fat, protein and carbohydrates as well as measuring how many calories it burns.

On the first occasion, the diet considered of 15 per cent protein while the second occasion saw a 30 per cent protein intake, with each meal having been paired with a sugary drink.

Explaining their findings, they wrote: "We found that drinking a sugar-sweetened drink with a meal significantly decreases fat use and diet-induced thermogenesis (heat production)."

"And when we paired the sugar-sweetened drink with a protein-rich meal, the combination further decreased fat use and diet-induced thermogenesis by more than 40%." they continued.

"Additionally, we found that, over the course of a day, the body only expended 80 of the 120 kcals that was provided by the sugar-sweetened drink, thus creating a 40-kcal surplus independent of how much protein was in the meal."

The findings highlight the impact sugary drink consumption has on the metabolism regardless of the components of the meal.

"One implication of the results is that the body’s reduced metabolic efficiency after drinking a sugar-sweetened beverage can lead to a greater tendency to make and store fat."

"Our findings provide further insight into the potential role of sugar-sweetened drinks in the etiology of obesity."

And there we were thinking our healthy meal meant we could loosen up on the beverage front.

*Sigh.

We all know that sleep is needed for our well-being, but scientists are just figuring out how important it is for our brain power.

According to a new study, a good night's sleep can help increase women's brain function, but the same cannot be said for men.

A study, which was carried out in the Munich Max Planck Institute found that sleep can give you major intelligence capabilities. However, as we all know, having a good night's sleep is easier said than done.

The study monitored the sleeping patterns of a group of 160 adults.

The scientists used intelligence tests to evaluate the participants' problem solving skills and reason abilities.

They also paid close attention to the candidates' 'sleep spindles' which are small bursts of brain activity which occur during sleep.

'Sleep spindles' are often linked to high IQs, and large amounts were recorded when the female participants entered a dreamless sleep state, which in turn boosts brain power when awake.

However, 'sleep spindles' were only found in males when they napped.

Head researchers of the study, Professor Martin Dresler told Grazia: "Our results demonstrate that the association between sleep spindles and intelligence is more complex than we have assumed until now.

"There are many factors involved in intellectual abilities, and sleep is just one of them.

"This large study of men and women gives us a more accurate framework for the next face of research, which will involve differences in individuals’ sleep patterns."

We love our fathers with all our hearts, but there's no denying that when it come to the minutiae of our daily lives, they're generally not as clued in as our mothers.

And while they may not always have their finger on the pulse, we would assume they would be able to pick us out of a line-up.

Unfortunately for Georgia Wilde, it took her recent graduation day to realise that when it comes to the crunch, her dad may not be as reliable on that front as she might have hoped.

Taking to Twitter with a recording, the film graduate told friends and followers: "My dad legit filmed the wrong girl going down the isle at my graduation sums up my Dad." (sic)

Unsurprisingly, the post soon went viral, with thousands of social media users seeing their own fathers in Georgia's.

"At least your Dad knows how to use a camera. My father tried to film me with his phone which turned out to be the tv remote!" wrote one.

"No word of a lie, when it was my cousins wedding 5 years ago, my grandad went up to the wrong bride getting out the car," added another.

Anyone else seeing the irony in Georgia's choice of degree?!

If the rumours are to be believed, Bryan Dobson is set to leave the Six One News.

The news anchor will apparently move to RTÉ Radio, to host Morning Ireland, which is currently presented by Cathal Mac Coille and Colm Ó Mongáin.

According to The Sunday Independent, the move will be part of the recent changes being made in the station.

Even though it's always good to have a fresh start, we'll miss Bryan on the evening news as he has been presenting it since 1996.

This comes just after Sharon Ní Bheoláin revealed that Bryan earns up to €80,000 more than her a year.

She commented on the RTÉ gender pay gap over the weekend, telling The Sunday Independent, “I believe that I am well remunerated, but, for the record, my pay is still considerably less than that of Bryan’s."

Bryan has yet to confirm his departure.

Well, it looks like we're in for a dramatic Celebrity Big Brother this year.

Last Friday, Emma Willis, who presents the show, revealed that the line up has been confirmed, and even though 80s popstar Sinitta has already quit, it looks like we'll be in for an explosive series.

According to The Daily Star on Sunday, the line up is as follows:

  • Pete Wicks of TOWIE fame

  • Amelia Lily from The X Factor

  • Sandi Bolge who recently quit Gogglebox

  • Jucy Lucy from Ex on the Beach

  • Brandi Glanville from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

  • Nathan Henry from Geordie Shore

  • Rodrigo Alves who is known as 'the human Ken doll'

If the leaked list is to be believed, we're sure that a few of these people will clash heads.

Pete's on/off girlfriend Megan McKenna took part in the show in 2016, and produced some pretty tense scenes in the house.

We're looking forward to seeing Sandi join CBB, and since her former co-star Scarlett Moffatt won I'm A Celeb, we're hoping the budding singer does just as well on this series.

It looks like taxi fares are set to rise yet again.

Earlier this month, a report by the National Transport Authority was mistakenly published. It read that taxi fares should stay static, and when taxi drivers caught wind of the proposal, they weren't happy with the NTA in the slightest.

The proposal has since been deleted, however, the The Times Ireland Edition reports that it's likely that taxi fares could rise by 3.5 per cent within the next few months.

It's believed that the NTA will put up the minimum cost from €3.60 to €3.80 and the premium cost from €4 to €4.20.

According to 98fm, The National Private Hire and Taxi Association member Jim Waldron also expects that the €2 fee to put luggage in the boot will be reintroduced.

However, even after all of the raises, The National Private Hire and Taxi Association still want larger hikes to help cover costs of "doing business" and insurance.
