If you've been anywhere near social media in the last few hours, you'll be well aware that today is Equal Pay Day.

And while the hashtag is circulating far and wide, not everyone is fully aware as to why November 10 was chosen to mark this day.

Put simply, if you shave 14 per cent  – the current gender pay gap in Ireland – off the entire year, you land on November 10, which marks the day when women essentially stop being paid for their work.

According to the Fawcett Society, women in their twenties can expect to be paid 5.5 per cent less than men while women in their fifties experience an i8.6 per cent disparity.

Twitter has been having its say on the issue all morning, and it's fair to say the matter is a divisive one.

If there's one thing we can always get behind here at SHEmazing HQ, it's a boy band comeback.

And if that boy band just happens to be the one that brought us corkers like Flying Without Wings, My Love and When You're Looking Like That, we move swiftly into meltdown territory.

Sending every noughties teen into a tailspin this week, Louis Walsh confirmed that Westlife would, indeed, be making a comeback.

"A Westlife reunion is definitely going to happen – but I have no idea when," he admitted while speaking to RSVP magazine.

"I'm still really good friends with all of the lads," he added.

Paying tribute to individual members, the Mayo-native told the publication: "I was chatting to Mark Feehily last night about the Christmas album he's bringing out, and its amazing. I'd forgotten how talented he is."

And while Louis is adamant that the lads will be returning to the stage in the near future, he admits that the timeline is down to them.

"I think the reunion will be great, but its up to them to decide when they will do it."

Ladies, we're ironing our World Of Our Own Tour T-shirts, as we speak.

In another two-sentence response on social media, Westwick stated:

'It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and provably untrue social media claims, there are some in this community who could ever conclude I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct.'

'I have absolutely not, and I am cooperating with the authorities so that they can clear my name as soon as possible.'

'I do not know this woman. I have never forced myself in any manner, on any woman. I certainly have never committed rape.'

Kristina Cohen reached out to Wynn via Facebook, saying:

'You are a hero! You are SACRED and DIVINE! And nobody can take that away from you! It is your birthright! My love is with you!'

'We can heal and bring each other up! I cannot wait to embrace you my sister. We're all in this together! It's time!'

If you're after a blue tick on Twitter, now would be a bad time to apply.

The social media giant has suspended their verification process due to major backlash after the site awarded a blue tick to a right-wing nationalist Jason Kessler.

Kessler has been accused of being a white supremacist, and was the organiser of the Charlottesville Rally in August which left one dead and many injured.

The Twitter Support page stated:

'Verification was meant to authenticate identity & voice but it is interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance.'

'We recognize that we have created this confusion and need to resolve it.'

'We have paused all general verifications while we work and will report back soon.'

Kessler was accused by many of being a white supremacist and a Nazi as they attempted to get Twitter's attention regarding his awarded blue tick.

Kessler responded to the accusations, saying: 'I never claimed to be "superior" to anyone else because of my race.'

'However, my people are beautiful, unique and deserve to have a voice like anyone else.'

According to Twitter, 'an account may be verified if it is determined to be an account of public interest.'

'Typically this includes accounts maintained by users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.'

'A verified badge does not imply an endorsement by Twitter.'

The previously disbanded laptop levy may have to be reintroduced, according to information obtained by The Irish Independent.

The document viewed by The Indo detailed the potential options that may be debated in the Oireachtas Committee on Communications.

It reportedly details the potential introduction of an overall charge for all households, even those who do not own a TV.

The Department of Communications' Mark Griffin warned that the laptop levy may be reconsidered.

'I would say the TV licence model is broken.,' he told The Irish Independent.

'I'm not sure whether it can be fixed.'

The charge could be considered for those who watch TV services on laptops and tablets.

According to The Independent, the document also recommended that the current licence fee of €160.00 should be raised to as much as €175.00.

This higher cost could be increased further into the future.

Whether you're a cheese burger meal type of gal or a fan of the Snackbox, there's no better place to end the night than with a comforting plastic tray of takeaway goodness.

Curry cheese chip connoisseur Supermacs has been known to help us all head home a little more satiated after a night on the town.

Now, the Irish fast food chain is seeking the public's assistance after some very interesting CCTV footage was captured in one premises.

A post shared by Dawid Hoepfner (@hef.d) on

Taking to Facebook, Supermacs Ireland uploaded a video of a man in the communal area of the men's bathroom.

The black and white footage shows the man repeatedly cupping his hand under the water of the sink, before splashing the water onto the floor.

He then appears to wipe water onto his back and trousers before leaving the wash basin.

Supermacs uploaded the footage along with the caption: 'Do you know this man? We'd like to speak to him.'

Most people in the comments section think that it appears that the man is attempting to fraudulently make it look like he slipped and fell in the water, possibly in an attempt to claim damages against the restaurant.

However, this is just speculation, as Supermacs do not specify what they believe the man was attempting.

The footage is currently going viral, after being viewed over 165,000 times with thousands of comments and shares.

It won't be long before someone identifies the alleged crook.

'Insurance companies are to blame' said one outraged commenter.

A post shared by Supermac's (@supermacsofficial) on

'They dont investigate anything just pay out and make it back by upping premiums for everyone across all types of policies.'

'Without this footage this scumbag would get away with 20 grand easy.'

Another wrote: 'The garlic cheese has gone to his head.'

The use of wild animals for entertainment purposes in Ireland will soon be prohibited under Irish law.

The new regulations, which come into effect from January 2018, were singed signed today by Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed.

"The use of wild animals for entertainment purposes in circuses can no longer be permitted. This is the general view of the public at large and a position I am happy to endorse," he said.

The decision to delay the legislation until the beginning of the new year was taken so that circus owners would have a chance to provide “alternative arrangements” for the animals in question.

The progressive move comes after a number of local authorities refused to allow public land to be used by circuses featuring wild animals.

And while a number of circus operators have raised concerns, Mr Creed explained that “while the retirement of the small numbers of wild animals in Irish circuses might seem like a loss, [he] is am confident that this move will do more to secure the future of the circus community.”

Adding: “Coming in line with modern welfare standards will mean that greater numbers of the public will be more comfortable with going to the circus.”

The new ban has been praised by animal rights groups across the country with Animal Rights Action Network’s John Carmody saying that today was a “great day.”

“Finally Ireland can raise its head and be proud that the country has finally taken a meaningful and real step to stop the suffering of wild animals forced to travel and perform in Irish circuses. We spent 20 plus years fighting for this day and here it is,” he said.

The Circuses Regulations 2017 comes under the Animal Health & Welfare Act 2013.
