It has just been announced that British actor, Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.

The London born actor is perhaps most notable to younger fans as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series and for his role in popular rom-com, Love Actually.

The tragic news has just been announced and he is survived by his wife of three years, Rima Horton.

We are reeling from the news that our favourite Hogwarts professor has passed.

In a statement released by the family, the actor passed away peacefully in London this morning.

"The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69."

"He was surrounded by family and friends."

Rickman, who is a beloved British talent and public figure, kept the news of his illness very private from the press.

This marks the second high profile death from Cancer this week as David Bowie also passed away on Monday.

As the world continues to grieve over the loss of David Bowie, one talented Irish musician paid an emotional musical tribute to the star at his New York apartment.

Glen Hansard was filmed alongside a mountain of flowers left at the site by a well known photographer who had arrived at the scene.

The video was unplanned as rock photographer Kevin Mazur happened upon Glen at the lodgings where he had come to take photographs.

The Dublin musician played a haunting rendition of Bowie's seminal hit Ashes to Ashes alongside other people who had come to grieve at the location.

David Bowie died on Monday at the age of 69 following an 18-month battle with cancer.

Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are total relationship goals as they indulged a teenage fan while out on a romantic dinner date this week.

The pretty pair were having a low-key dinner at an Italian restaurant in California when the young Ricky Selby approached their table.

Not only did the teen ask for a pic but actually sat down at the table with the pair and posed as their son. And Calvin, who was happy to play along in the ruse, appeared to give Ricky his menu.

"Awesome dinner with mom and dad," read the hilarious caption.

The couple didn't seem to mind the temporary adoption, as they posed for the picture.

And it seems that LA based Ricky gets pretty lucky when it comes to celebrity run ins as he posted a pic with Miley Cyrus last year to his Instagram.

Calvin and Taylor also seem to be going strong as the pair spent most of the Christmas holidays together and found plenty of time to play out in the snow and pose for cute pics. As you do.

While we got wind that Nicky Byrne is heading to Stolkholm in May and chatted to him about the song, it seems that Ireland's favourite drag queen also wants to be involved in the Eurovision this year.

Panti Bliss took to Twitter to nominate herself to take on Nicky's former role in the contest.

The Westlife singer was responsible for presenting Ireland's voting results live during the final last year.

And because Nicky will actually be IN the show this year, Panti would like to give it a whirl.

"Now that Nicky Byrne is singing for Ireland, I can't imagine who RTE might get to do the Irish results instead…," said the queen on social media.

While the role usually goes to an RTE presenter, we HOPE the national broadcaster gives Panti a go.

Not only do we reckon she would SLAY it, but we know Eurovision appreciates a talented drag artist (sure, Conchita Wurst won the whole thing in 2014).

AND it looks like Nicky reckons she could pull off the gig no problem.

"I’m sure you could fill my shoes, although they might be a bit flat for you," he wrote.

It seems that a certain former boyband member got caught in a bit of a scuffle yesterday.

Nick Carter was arrested last night at an infamous Florida bar quite spectacularly called the Hog's Breath Saloon.

According to TMZ who broke the news, the handsome singer was involved in an altercation at the Key West establishment with another customer and the police were called to break the argument up.

The singer was arrested and charged on a count of "misdemeanour battery" which sounds like he gave his opponent a bit of a knock.

Meanwhile, the Backstreet Boys just released their feature length documentary this month entitled In a World Like This.

The group saw significant success in the nineties and early noughties before Kevin Richardson left the group in 2006.

The band have remained together however and according to reports, they are currently working on a ninth studio album.

That's assuming Nick doesn't land himself in anymore trouble.

The 35-year-old is reportedly still behind bars and there has been no word about his release yet.

Nick and his wife, Lauren Kitt, announced that they are expecting their first child together in November of 2015.

The death of legendary rocker David Bowie to liver cancer on Sunday came as a shock to fans all over the world.

And despite the tributes still pouring in from all over the globe, David's final goodbye was reportedly as low-key as possible, with US news outlets today saying his a private cremation took place soon after his death.

It's thought no family or friends were present at the New York cremation ceremony, at David's request.

"In many respects you don’t need a memorial or service to remember David by… you have his music instead," one source told The Daily Mirror.

"He would have wanted to just disappear with no fuss, no big show, no fan-fare. This would totally be his style.

"His last album Blackstar was very much his goodbye to fans instead."

Blackstar was released on David's 69th birthday on January 8, just two days before his death. Many fans have pointed to the album's lead single Lazarus as Bowie's "swan song," as the video opens with the singer in a hospital bed and the line "Look up here, I'm in heaven."

Among the mourners gathering to pay tribute to David outside his New York apartment on Monday evening was The Frames frontman Glen Hansard, who sang this beautiful version of Ashes to Ashes in the singer's memory:

Saoirse Ronan is literally everywhere at the moment.

She has been on one serious press junket this awards season as the Carlow native is expected to be nominated for an Oscar for her turn in Brooklyn.

And she has certainly been reminding everyone that she is most definitely Irish, if her name and accent weren't already giving the game away.

From plugging Dublin beauty salons to giving the gift of Barry's tea, it seems that Saoirse now wants to help Americans nail the perfect Irish accent.

On the Late Show with Stephen Colbert that aired in the States yesterday, Saoirse filled the host in on how NOT to do an Irish accent.

Dispelling stereotypical Irish impersonations, Saoirse advised that the accent should not to get too high-pitched and the sound should be quite "melodic and sing-songey."

She also helped Stephen out with the pronunciation of some very common Irish names such as Caoimhe, Siobhan and Oisin.

*There are SPOILERS in this article.*

Making a Murderer, Netflix's seminal crime series, has been turning the internet on it's head ever since going live over the Christmas holidays.

But now it seems that Jodi Stachowski , Steven's former partner who appeared in the first few episodes of the series before the couple went their separate ways, has finally opened up about the case.

"Steve Avery is guilty. He murdered Teresa Halbach. He and his nephew [Brendan Dassey] raped and murdered her," said Jodi in a taped interview with Nancy Grace, television host on US news network, HLN

According to US Weekly, the former girlfriend of Steven Avery reached out to the Nancy Grace Show after the host raised questions about the documentary and the case.

When a producer asked Jodi what she wanted to tell the world, she replied: "The truth. What a monster he is, and he's not innocent."

"I love Making a Murderer. It's beautifully put together, it's just leaving out about 60 or 70 percent of the evidence.

"I remember interviewing Steve Avery while we were still looking for Teresa. My knowledge at that time and now is that he brutally murdered this girl.

"True, he was wrongly convicted on a previous charge, and that's a miscarriage of justice too. But he killed Teresa Halbach."

Amidst the pretty damning statements, Jodi also revealed she feared being around her ex-boyfriend when they were together.

"I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go the hospital and get away from him, and ask them to get the police to help me."

These new revelations by Jodi are pretty shocking especially considering she made a pretty convincing case for Steven's innocence in the documentary.
