Mark Desmond was shot up to four times in the head during a gangland gun attack in Lucan, Dublin, last night.

The murder occurred at Griffeen Valley Park at around 8pm.

A burnt-out car containing a hand gun was also found close to the scene, but it has not yet been proven whether the two incidents are related.

Gardaí are investigating if two criminal brothers who are based in the area are behind the attack, sources told the Independent

Desmond was well known to Gardaí as an extremely violent and unstable individual.

He has previous convictions for violent crime and possession of firearms offences.

He was also questioned previously about the rape of a 15-year-old boy, and he was a suspected of murdering two men and dumping their bodies in the Grand Canal in 2000.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life has taken over the lives of Netflix lovers across the globe.

The revival of the noughties TV show has been a smash success, with the show reaching old and new fans alike.

As with all good drama series, there have been a few controversies along the way from those last four words to the coffee cup controversy sweeping social media.

If you've ever watched the show, you'll know that the girls love to drink their coffee in a slightly unusual manner, clutching the bottom of the cup with their palms flat.

Online outcry over the unusual method has taken over Twitter, with fans speculating that there is, in fact, no coffee in the cups whatsoever.

Sitting down with Stephen Colbert on the Late Late Show, GG veteran Lauren Graham effortlessly demonstrated how the method worked, proving that you can indeed drink coffee in this fashion.

“There is always coffee in my cup. Always. That is a pet peeve of mine. I’m holding it. I’m holding it like this. I’m looking at snow, I’m holding the cup. I’m drinking," she said.

"I love the controversies that are cropping up!”

The star also spoke about her love for her classic character and the show.

"The fact that it was sort of the people who brought us back and we got to finish a story that we hadn’t gotten to finish and this character I love so much. I was just a freak, and I had so much appreciation."

"It was actually very overwhelming. I’m not a person who cries very easily, but I cried almost every day.”

The doctor who made a racist remark on Facebook about ex-first lady Michelle Obama has resigned from her health centre job.

Dr Michelle Herren's non-paid medical faculty appointment at the University of Colorado was also terminated following the remarks.

The paediatric anaesthesiologist responded to a Facebook post praising Mrs Obama with the comment:

"Monkey face and poor ebonic English!!! There! I feel better and am still not racist!!! Just calling it like it is!"

The comment received a massive amount of attention from Facebook users.

Dr Herren told KMGH-TV that her online remarks were taken "out of context" and she did not realise the term "monkey face" was offensive.

The world was united in awe as a video of X Factor star Olly Murs saving a woman from choking to death did the rounds online.

The video showed the singer performing the Heimlich manoeuvre on the struggling woman.

Olly can be seen thrusting the woman’s diaphragm until she is saved from choking.

Fans were quick to heap praise on the artist, but others were very skeptical of the entire thing.

“Thank God he was able to dislodge that food from her left hand," commented one, who didn't believe the woman was choking at all, and that the food seen flying from her moth was actually thrown from her hand.

It was revealed today that the footage was in fact a hoax, as part of Alan Carr's Happy Hour show, airing next week.

Some fans were less than impressed with the "PR stunt" branding it "inappropriate" and "odd."

Amy Schumer could soon be personifying one of the world's most beloved children's toys.

The comedian is in negotiations to play the lead role in Barbie, the live-action Sony Pictures film based on the doll.

Every kid loved Barbie growing up, but she's had something of a bad rap in recent years for her unrealistic proportions and perceived ditziness.

Amy is renowned for her fiercely feminist stance and taking pride in her realistic figure, so having her star as Barbie puts a modern day spin on the classic toy.

The film is set to revolve around Amy's character living in Barbieland, who gets kicked out for not fitting the exact ideal of perfection.

Ah Penneys, we truly love you for all of your affordable fashion and beauty essentials, but this gift bag mishap is beyond hilarious.

Some eagle-eyed Irish shoppers were quick to point out the flaw in this seemingly harmless geometric print gift bag.

While the slogan may seem to say "no peeking", the font makes it seem like it's saying something else all together.

The way that this font is designed gives the slogan a triple-meaning.

While no peeking is definitely relevant to Christmas, we're not sure if "no puking" or "no peeing" is exactly what you'd expect to see scrawled on your Kris Kringle gift bag.

Although, no puking might be relevant after hitting the vino a tad too hard over the party season.

50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy delighted us all when it hit our screens in 2014, but now Baz Ashmawy has revealed there will be no more seasons of the show.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Baz said that he doesn't want to make another series because of 'rip-off shows'.

“As soon as other people are making spin-offs or rip-offs of it, you just kind of think, ‘Well maybe there’s something else we should try now'.

"I had such a good time making 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy with my mum, so it would be hard to resent somebody doing it with their mum if they get the same thing out of it.

“But as far as ideas go, that’s just TV. I created a little genre and what has happened is maybe one of the reasons that I’m kind of done with it now.”

Aw, we'll miss Nancy on our TV screens!

When a TV show comes over to the Irish, it's fair to say we put our hearts and souls into it.

Sure, just look at the Irish Gogglebox and First Dates – they're both brilliant and hilarious.

However, when we heard that Dancing With The Stars is coming to RTÉ next year, it's safe to say we had our reservations, because… well, dancing.

With rumours going around that the full line-up for DWTS will be released next week, an inside source let a few things slip to the Irish Daily Mail.

We already know that Amanda Byram is set to host the show, with Blathnaid Treacy taking over the Friday spin-off show.

But some of the contestants are rumoured to be top model Thalia Heffernan, comedic genius Des Bishop and everyone's favourite weather woman, Teresa Mannion.

The source told the paper: “All the stars and their dancers met up and had a sort of get-together lunch in town last week. They all got on really well and they are all rehearsing around the clock with their partners.

“There is a really good mix and we know that the GAA pulling power of Aidan O’Mahony will be a big hit – as will hopefully Des Bishop, who has a big national following.

“The full line-up will be released to the public next week, and there could be an appearance on a weekend chat show. That’s all I can say.”

We're looking forward to seeing who made the cut!

They’ve kept us wondering over the past few days but, finally, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have revealed the name they have chosen for their newborn son.

Drumroll please….it’s Dimitri Portwood.

The news was confirmed by A Plus, Ashton’s website, via a phone call from the actor himself.

The Jobs star revealed that little Dimitri entered the world on November 30, at 1:21am, tipping the scales at 8lbs 15oz. What a little whopper!

We’re kind of relieved to hear that the proud parents opted for ‘Dimitri’, given how Ashton recently told chat show host Conan O’Brien that he was at one point considering ‘Hawkeye’ for his newborn son!

In his statement to A Plus, Ashton also sent out an important message regarding his children and the life they have been born into.

“We’d like to allow our kids to make their own choices on whether to have a life in the public eye or not. We don’t want to make the choice for them,” he said.

Ashton and Mila are, of course, already parents to two-year-old daughter Wyatt Isabelle.

What do you think of the couple’s choice of name? Let us know!
