Spice Girls’ message of ‘girl power’ has been given a new lease of life in a new music video with a powerful message.

The Global Goals have recorded a new video to the girl band’s huge hit ‘Wannabe’ to share their message to world leaders about the needs of women around the world.

Sharing the video to her nearly three million followers, Victoria Beckham said “the film is a wonderful idea” posting:

“20 years on – Girl Power being used to empower a new generation. I’m so proud of The Global Goals”.

The video has been viewed nearly seven million times on Victoria's Facebook page and women have been commenting in their thousands their ideas of equality.

The video features female artist from all around the world, including UK girl group MO, as they share their idea of what women "really really want".

Film director MJ Delany spoke to Harpers Bazaar about the video:

"This is about modern day Girl Power.

"The Spice Girls were about a group of different women joining together and being stronger through that bond, and these differences are what we want to celebrate in this film, while showing there are some universal things that all girls, everywhere, really really want."

An astonishing investigation into steroid-use in this country gives a glimpse into just how prolific drug-taking is among fitness fans.

“Anecdotal evidence suggests that thousands of young Irish men in particular are taking and using steroids,” RTÉ Radio 1 reporter Brian O’Connell revealed on this morning’s Today With Sean O’Rourke.

The drug is usually used to boost body image and to add on muscle or bulk in an unnaturally short space of time.

Strains include trenbolone, a hormone for bulls, and boldenone (also known as Equipoise), a hormone for racehorses.

And while it remains a taboo issue, the RTÉ report highlights that it is no longer merely confined to an extreme, underground body-building world.

“It’s something that we’ve been hearing for several years – that usage among young Irish males has been steadily rising,” Brian reiterated on the show this morning.

As part of the segment, he interviewed two steroid-users – both of whom spoke anonymously – and the insight into their world is shocking.

“You normally inject in the bum – for the simple reason that there’s more bulk there and also because it doesn’t show as easily,” explains the first case-study, who has been using for several years.

“Steroids have always been a part of the scene, and anyone who says different is wrong,” he adds. “But what wasn’t a part of it previously was the volume of steroids taken by people.

“And the type of people has changed too. In the past it was just your hard-core serious athletes. You certainly didn’t have young guys watching the likes of Geordie Shore and then taking it.”

He went on to say that while he didn’t feel like an ‘addict’ if a young person still in their teens approached him and looked for advice on steroids, he’d “advise them against using at such a young age”.

He went on to explain that young men who get caught up when they're 17, 18, or 19 were struggling to maintain a ‘normal’ level of testosterone once they hit their 20s. “If you put something synthetic into your body, the natural production of it stops,” he said, “so their sex drive is dropping down to nothing.”

And it seems more and more people from a wider variety of sports are dabbling in steroid usage too: despite the health risks, rugby players, GAA players, rowers, soccer players and more are interested in what the drug can offer them.

“I was asked by a guy recently – and he was just playing junior GAA football – for something to increase his stamina,” Brian O’Connell was told.

Last year, Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews was asked to leave the I'm A Celebrity jungle when he admitted that he was taking steroids.

He later described the decision as "one of the biggest regrets" of his life, and said he took the drug "completely out of vanity" because he wanted to "look good in the shower".

The 26-year-old furthermore revealed that he was first offered steroids while training for a charity boxing match.

In Ireland it is illegal to procure anabolic steroids without a prescription or from anywhere other than a pharmacy. In the last four years, 150,000 steroid units have been seized by customs – a figure that’s widely considered to be the tip of the iceberg.

The problem is now so extensive that a new drop-in service specifically for steroid users will be provided by Merchant’s Quay Ireland from the end of this month.

The Dublin-based organisation says that over the past two years, more and more young men between the ages of 18 and 35 have contacted them for clean needles.

In fact, this group now accounts for more than 10 per cent of the men who come into the exchange.

“I started using steroids when I was about 18 or 19 through a friend. I was always into fitness from a young age – into the Bruce Lee films and all that,” a second user told the RTÉ show.

“I was training and I was in shape but I wanted to put on size; I always felt I was too thin. With steroids I felt once you use them right you put on size quickly.

“In a week and a half I put on a stone and a half of muscle – I went up to 15 and a half stone eventually.”

He added that at times he was injecting himself on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – and then again on Sundays, spending around €300 on a course that would last six weeks.

The response to today’s show has been significant; among the online commentators was The Blizzard’s Niall Breslin, who took to Twitter to say that the “psychological implications” of steroid use were also “horrifying”.

Another commented: “Instagram really pushing body image and steroids too. Gymbunny 17 year olds with no body fat and huge muscle mass.”

Anabolic steroid abuse has been associated with side effects including acne, loss of sex drive, and breast development in men. More serious issues include life threatening conditions such as heart attacks and liver cancer. Most are reversible if the abuser stops taking the drugs.

Earlier this year, anabolic steroids and prescription-only erectile dysfunction drugs were discovered by The Sunday Times on sale via the Irish website donedeal.ie.

If your collection of Community Games medals started to peter out once you started rocking your first AA bra, you’re not alone.

While most of us threw ourselves into PE in primary school and considered after-school GAA sessions more craic than we could handle, this enthusiasm abruptly waned as we began navigating the minefield that is puberty.

As friendship groups don’t tend to develop at the same time – Thanks for that, Mother Nature – puberty and its onset felt like a round-the-clock assessment of yourself and your team mates.

While some girls were busy taping their boobs beneath their GAA jerseys, and even more were refusing point-blank to wear small white shorts, others were watching from the sidelines questioning why they were still rocking a cami-top and wondering if cramps really did justify that extra bag of Haribo at the end of a match.

And along with these feelings of awkwardness, flashes of confusion, bouts of self-consciousness and days of discomfort, a huge number of us decided it simply wasn’t worth the effort and ultimately hung up our football boots and downed our camogie sticks.

And nothing’s changing.

According to the most recent Always Confidence and Puberty Survey, 64% of girls will have quit sport by the end of puberty while a staggering 80% admit that they don’t feel they belong in sport – something which former Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan wants to address with the #LikeAGirl campaign.

“For me, it’s about being a role model and trying to inspire girls not to give up,” says Sonia. “We all go through it, but puberty can be such a challenging time for girls, who may feel really self-conscious about lots of things and start thinking you can’t or shouldn’t do certain activities.”

And while, in theory, it sounds totally doable, it’s a lot less clean-cut when you're crippled by feelings of self-doubt and struggle to play to the best of your ability due to physiological changes which only 43 bars of chocolate and a hotwater bottle can fix.

Acknowledging that all of this can wreak havoc on a girl's confidence in both her ability on the pitch and herself, Sonia urges: “Ride the storm. Accept that there will be challenging times when you participate in sport, but remember you WILL get over this hump.”

“Accept that sometimes things will hold you back and you may not be as good as once were, but remember your time will come around again." she urges. "Lower your expectations of yourself for now and remember why you took part to begin with."

In a time when phrases like #FitFam and #LadiesWhoLift have made it into everyday vernacular, we all know the benefits of keeping fit and staying active, but when you’re a 16-year-old girl with a head full of doubts and a body with what seems like a mind of its own, sport mightn’t seem like the answer.

But it seems it actually can be, or will – at the very least – help more than hinder.

“Everybody needs down-time and a release,” Sonia acknowledges. “Participating in sport can give focus, increase confidence and help with doubts or fears.”

And for those ladies who have refused to step back from the sport they love, but resent the lack of interest in female sport, Sonia’s with you on that one.

“I was going through the papers today,” she began. “And even with Wimbledon, there was spread after spread on the mens’, and only a small amount on the women.”

The former Olympian acknowledges that in many sports, women appear to need more than just ability and talent to get the media coverage they deserve, but can’t wait for a time when this is no longer the case.

“Sport is sport," she insisted. "Not mens’ sport or womens’ sport. Sport is sport.”

You heard the woman, and we just wish our 15-year-old selves had too.

She's previously admitted to having lip and cheek fillers because she was "bored," but now Tulisa Contostavlos' fans think she's gone a step too far.

The singer sparked concern a few days ago when she posted a selfie to Instagram, captioning it: "Rise & shine." However, even though the former X Factor judge is fresh-faced in the snap, she looks like a completely different person.

She furthered the concern today when she took to the social media site again, posting another barely-recognisable face.

This time she simply captioned the pic with a lip emoji, but instead of hugs and kisses, her followers flooded her page with messages like, "Tulisa ruined her pretty face."

Another user commented, "Tulisa has had some sort of face transplant," and one more follower said, "Fact is Tulisa was buff before the surgery, don't know why she had to go and remould her face, who made her this insecure (sic)."

We have to admit, she looks very different from her N-Dubz and X Factor days.

It's not uncommon for actresses and actors to change their appearance for a role.

Some are asked to lose weight, some are asked to gain it. But when Margot Robbie was asked to lose a few pounds just for the sake of it, she knew it was a bad choice and refused to do it.

The Focus star plays the role of Jane in the upcoming remake of Tarzan, and told Australia's TV Week that she didn't want to "look thin" for no reason.

"It's the 19th century [in the film] – if she's got a bit of weight on her, it's probably a good thing.

"I'm not going to look thin just for the sake of it." she said.

However, she also had another excuse to not stay on a super-strict Hollywood diet: "It was my first time living in London properly and I wanted to try every pub."

Ah, a girl after our own hearts.

This generation has been brought up to see carbs as the 'bad guys' (thanks, Atkins).

However, stuffing your face with a mighty plate of carbonara isn't all that bad… It's actually kinda good for you.

In a new study published in the Nutrition & Diabetes Journal, it found that pasta is better for your waistline, and doesn't make you put on weight – if eaten in moderation, obvs.

Researchers studied the diets and BMIs of more than 23,000 people, and found NO link between eating pasta and gaining a few pounds.

It even revealed that people who eat pasta on a regular basis had a "lower waist circumference and better waist-hip ratio."

Co-author of the study, George Pounis said: "By analysing anthropometric data of the participants and their eating habits we have seen that consumption of pasta, contrary to what many think, is not associated with an increase in body weight, rather the opposite.

"Our data shows that enjoying pasta according to individuals' needs contributes to a healthy body mass index, lower waist circumference and better waist-hip ratio."

However, don't go buying a month-supply of microwave carbonara and spag-bol, as they note the key to pasta being healthy is if you team it with lots of healthy fats like olive oil, veggies and fish.

That daily latte habit you love so much might be getting a bit more expensive soon.

In a turn that will probably anger a lot of people, Starbucks is about to raise its prices after being caught out by a computer glitch.

The coffee chain was forced to admit this week that a technical glitch upped its prices, and customers may have already been over-charged.

The world-wide business usually raises its prices during the first week of July (as if they weren't expensive enough), but some workers received a different memo.

The company made a statement saying: "Price adjustment was prematurely entered into the point of sale systems."

However, it seems to only be chains in America that got hit with the over-charging, so we can stop searching through our receipts now.

BUT be prepared to add an extra few cents onto your order in the upcoming few weeks.

Taylor Swift is the queen of serial dating in Hollywood, having sparked a new romance with English hottie, Tom Hiddleston.

The Blank Space singer recently called it quits on a 15-month long relationship with DJ Calvin Harris, and is already back in love with a new man.

Almost like a dating chameleon, Taylor seems to re-vamp her personal style with every new fella she gets.

Cutie pie

Ah, the early days. Back in 2008, Taylor dated boy-bander Joe Jonas, and embodied the concept of a pop princess.

Tay was always seen wearing precious pastel numbers, and always looked like the All American princess that she is.

High school sweetheart

When Tay Swift started dating Taylor Lautner in 2009, her style remained very sweet, and American.

She was seen donning more athletic looks, similar to those Taylor Lautner wore.

Dressing down

Taylor had a brief fling with actor, Jake Gyllenhaal in 2010, which saw her dressing down in a major way, and wearing a lot of dark blues JUST LIKE Jake.

Darker times

Things changed for Taylor in 2009, when she started a fling with singer-songwriter (and professional bad boy) John Mayer.

Taylor ditched the pretty dresses that she had become known for, and began opting for darker silhouettes, perhaps to match John's #darksoul.

Political stance

Taylor dated political heir, Conor Kennedy for a few months in 2012, and totally embraced her inner Jackie O with midi skirts and floral prints.

Casual cool

Moving on from the dark shades of John Mayer, T Swift dated our favourite One Direction boy, Harry Styles in 2012.

This relationship involved a laid back approach to style, with Tay seen rocking jeans, jackets and comfortable knitwear throughout.

Getting sexy

Taylor left her princess status behind her when she started dating Calvin Harris in 2015.

We saw daring hem lines, plunging necklines and general sassiness in her style. Taylor also got a major chop, ditching her long blond locks for a more grown up bob.

Matchy matchy

Taylor's latest beau is English actor, and absolute BABE, Tom Hiddleston.

Nicknamed "Hiddleswift" by the media, the couple have been spotted wearing matching quilted jackets and jeans while out and about.
