Schedule in some ‘worrying time’ and you just might do your mental health a huge favour.

According to experts, if you want to overcome stress you should “confine [your] worrying to a regular set period of 15 minutes or so each day. When worrying thoughts arise at other times, the trick is to save them for later and let them go.”

Easier said than done, but it could be worth the effort.

“Expressive writing” or writing down your concerns will also help you calm down. Put down as detailed a description of your worry as possible, but don’t “analyse what’s causing your thoughts”.

We are constantly worrying about things or situations that could go wrong  and they are a huge source of our anxiety and stress.

Worrying is not constructive and contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t actually mean that you will be better able to handle bad news.

Not only will it bring you down but it can actually bring about a wide range of mental health problems, as well as alcohol and drug dependence and insomnia.

So stop worrying. Now.

A new exciting app has just been released onto the Apple apps store that is designed to make the lives of those suffering with type 1 diabetes easier.

Those who suffer from diabetes know it can be both difficult and dangerous to calculate the portion of carbohydrates needed and how much insulin is required. Sick of guesswork and calculations, Health Apps founder and health psychologist Deborah Wilder came up with the Cook & Count Carbs App.

Wilder developed the app after learning how difficult it can be for diabetes sufferers to monitor their carb intake when her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes age ten years old.

The Cook & Count Carbs App allows quick access information about carbs content of nearly 2000 ingredients and can stop the nightmare of counting and calculating for type 1 diabetes sufferers.

The app can also be useful for those trying to control their weight through low-carb diets such as Atkins or athletes who need to monitor their carb intake.

Interesting choice Mr. Jacobs. After causing controversy with her outlandish style and antics this past year, it seems Miley hasn’t escaped the notice of Marc Jacobs.

It’s been announced that the former Disney star will front his upcoming Spring/Summer ’14 collection.

Twerking extrodinaire, Miley, was also part of Jacobs’ ‘Protect the skin you’re in’ campaign to promote skin cancer awareness, so perhaps the choice isn’t such a surprise for some.

Having developed a relationship with Jacobs over the past few years and even presenting him with award at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars, it seems this relationship has developed even further.

Here’s hoping she keeps that tongue in her mouth and stays off heavy operating machinery.

Kate Middleton is 32 today, so we decided to remind ourselves of some of her best looks to date.

The yellow dress is light, summery and a very feminine look, while the turquoise Jenny Packham number in the middle is incredibly sophisticated, with beautiful lace detailing. If only we had somewhere to wear it to…. sigh.

And for the grand finale, it couldn’t be anything less than the adorable frock dress worn by the Princess as she emerged from St. Mary’s Hospital in London on the 22nd July following the birth of her son Prince George.

Happy Birthday Kate!

Awards season is upon us so we decided to take a look at five of the movies you NEED to watch before settling in with a hot water bottle (or any other bottle of your choice) to watch the Oscars this year.

1. Gravity
This movie is entirely set in space –  a “3D science fiction thriller” if you will. This made us sceptical to say the least. “It’s basically Open Water in space” was one of the quotes floating around in relation to the movie, but it’s actually a very impressive film. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are the story’s two stars and Bullock has impressed critics everywhere with her performance as astronaut Dr Ryan Stone.

2. Philomena
A British comedy-drama set in Britain, Ireland and the US, this movie starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan has created quite a stir. Based on the true story of Limerick woman Philomena Lee (Judi Dench), the movie follows Lee’s journey to find her son who was taken off her at the convent in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, where she was kept during her pregnancy 1960’s. A truly inspiring and heart breaking tale with a light comedic touch that is worth seeing;  if even just for the relevance of what so many women in Ireland went through at the time.

3. American Hustle
Jennifer Lawrence. Need we say more? Christian Bale. There we go! A fast paced, interesting and vibrant movie that is far from let down by its impressive cast. A little on the hard side to explain, the movie involves con artists, robbery and politicians. Well worth seeing and it is sure to be a hit at the Oscars this year.

4. 12 Years a Slave
Based on a true story, the movie on everybody’s lips this week is 12 Years a Slave. It has been predicted that this will win massively at the Oscars this year. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as Soloman Northup, a free man who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in post-civil war America and whose autobiography was the inspiration for the movie. The movie also stars our very own and very lovely Michael Fassbender, alongside Brad Pitt.

5. The Wolf of Wall Street
Oh Leo. We want you to get the Oscar you deserve so much this year – it’s been a long time coming. The movie, a black comedy directed by Martin Scorsese, revolves around stockbroker Belfort (Leonardo Di Caprio) who works at a firm on Wall Street during the nineties, engaging in fraud and corruption. Set to be huge, it will be released in Ireland on the 17th January.

Shia LeBeouf has said too much again after revealing he had to send producers of the movie Nymphomaniac a picture of his, erm… manhood. Lovely stuff.

Wonder when they will reach the good ol’ reliable internet?!

This is the second time in less than a month that Shia has caused controversy after it was revealed that his new short film HowardCantour.com had uncanny similarities to animated short story Justin M. Damiano by Daniel Clowes.

Shia has also taken to Twitter, randomly apologising to Taylor Swift for nothing in particular it would seem. He also used a plane to write his apology to Daniel Clowes for the plagiarising incident.

All very strange to say the least.

For those of you who have read John Green’s best-selling and elegantly beautiful novel, The Fault in Our Stars, news of the upcoming movie is set to delight and excite.

Set for release this summer, the movie follows Hazel, a teenage girl suffering from cancer, as she battles the common teen issues, especially the biggest issue of all – boys.

Enter Augustus Waters, whom she meets at the cancer support group her mother makes her attend. Hazel’s dry humour, stubbornness and honesty about her condition marks this novel as far removed from anything seen before. Let’s hope this translates on-screen.

The film adaptation stars Shailene Woodley as protagonist Hazel and Ansel Elgort as love interest, Augustus Waters.

If you don’t already know the story, you’ll either have to pick up the book or wait for the movie. Set to be the romantic film of the year, The Fault in our Stars is set to tug at your heart string in a major way!

It seems Meryl Streep is none too impressed by children’s movie legend Walt Disney.

Speaking at the National Board of Review Gala in New York last night, Meryl blasted Disney during a speech honouring star of Saving Mr. Banks, Emma Thompson.

The movie, starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, chronicles the making of Mary Poppins during the 1960’s and Disney’s difficulty dealing with the author P.L. Travers, played by Thompson.

According to reports, during her nine-minute tribute to Thompson, Streep branded  Disney a “gender bigot” and went on to say that Disney had “supported an anti-Semitic industry lobbying group”.

However, it wasn’t all negative (kind of…) and Meryl did speak highly of her friend Emma and her contribution to the movie world; “Emma thinks, ‘Is this helpful?’ Not, ‘Will it build my brand?’ Not, ‘Will it give me billions?’ Not, ‘Does this express me, me, me in my unique and fabulous itself into all eternity in every universe for all time?”

Hmm, something tell us it would be a terrible idea to mess with Meryl.

It’s very easy to get into the habit of throwing everything into a closet. Today you throw in shoes, tomorrow you throw in a cardboard box and before you know it, you’re left with nothing but clutter and a pile of goods stacked up on one another.

With these closet saviours, you won’t ever have to look at a messy closet again (until next year that it is…) .

Multi-purpose hangers
They might look simple, but these bad boys are every woman’s dream. You can store belts, scarves and shawls all at the same time, which means you can stop digging around your closet.

Labelled baskets
Labels work in the kitchen and they also work in your bedroom. Try labelling your baskets so that you don’t have to spend time looking for things you might not even own.

Over-the-door hook
This is a quick and easy fix that will help you save some time in the morning. The best part about it is that you don’t need to drill this into your door – just secure it over the top of the door and voila. Done and dusted.

Irishman Barry Johnston had the best dish on The Taste last night and we’re not even being biased – they were the exact thoughts of judges Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Ludo Lefebvre.

His delicious dish of cured and grilled mackerel with pickled beetroot, wasabi mayonnaise and tempura samphire went down a treat with the judges and they all fought to win Barry for their teams, with Bourdain emerging as the winner.

Barry, from Ballinasloe, joked that “his friends would kill him for not choosing Nigella,” but that his dream had always been to work with Bourdain, an American food critic.

So what is different about this new cooking show? Well, contestants can only cook a mouthful (or a taste, if you will), of their chosen dish to impress the three judges.

Nigella is the judge Irish audiences would be most familiar with; however, the other two are far from dull. Lefebvre, a French chef based in LA is hilariously dramatic, while Bourdain provides us with that no-nonsense dry humour we all love to hate.

Catch The Taste on Channel 4 Tuesdays at 9pm.
