Dame Helen Mirren is to be presented with a BAFTA fellowship at this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards. The award is the most prestigious award bestowed upon an actor by the Academy.

Mirren has certainly been in her fair share of amazing movies and won an Oscar for her role in the 2006 movie The Queen.

Other great actors that have been awarded this prestigious award include Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Elizabeth Taylor, Martin Scorsese and Judi Dench.

Speaking about her impending award, The Calender Girls actor said: “This is the greatest professional honour I can imagine, certainly one I never dreamt of as a schoolgirl in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. To join that list of legendary names is overwhelming”.

The awards will be held on February 16th at the Royal Opera House in London.

Lee Ryan has finally admitted that he might have been a bit out of line during his time in the Big Brother house.

The Blue singer was involved in a love triangle with Casey Batchelor and Jasmine Waltz and had them both in tears.

He took to Twitter to make a public apology, writing: “I’m sorry if I hurt anyone for what I’ve done…. I’m so so sorry.”

The 30-year-old claims he hasn’t done well in relationships since one of his exes broke his heart and now he is scared of getting hurt again.

When he spoke about his feelings for the two women, he said:  “I got butterflies with Jasmine and she felt the same way and I know she did. But I was friends with Casey and I missed her friendship when we wasn’t being friends, and I think that’s what’s so confusing for people to see.”

Perhaps it’s true what they say – once bitten, twice shy.

Meryl Streep and 50 Cent were spotted hanging out together at a recent basketball match in New York and we think they have serious BFF potential. The unlikely pairing happened after the duo bumped into each other at a Lakers versus Knicks game.

The Oscar-winning actress and her new bestie sat beside each other in the front row at Madison Square Garden and were even spotted holding hands. Meryl’s husband Don Gummer was also in attendance – wonder how he felt about the flirty banter?

After the game, the P.I.M.P hitmaker uploaded the pictures to his Instagram page.  He captioned the snaps: “Things got a little gangsta. Lol TURN UP, Turn Down for what!#smsaudio,”

The duo even posed for a snap alongside Lakers star Kobe Bryant.  The rapper wrote: “Best ball KOBE, Best Rap 50,Best Actress Meryl Streep. TOP THAT #SMSAUDIO,”

The Candy Shop singer decided to head to the game rather than attend the Grammy’s and after bumping into the film star, we’re pretty sure he won’t regret his decision.

All the look of a pretty skirt with all the safety of shorts (not that we fall over…much).

This first green skort is from River Island at ASOS and has great zip detailing. A perfect colour for summer nights.

We do love a bit of tartan and this green/navy skort from Boohoo adds a touch of punk to any wardrobe.

The next skort is from ASOS and is classicly black with a high waist. Great for the office or out for dinner with the girls.

The final piece is a pretty floral skort from Missguided. We love the black and white – it will go with anything!

Chinese New Year is just around the corner and if you know anything about this annual event, you no doubt will want to have some kind of celebration.

If you’re planning a dinner, here are some of the traditional foods served at Chinese New Year and the meaning behind them:

A whole chicken
This represents family closeness and ‘togetherness’.

Jai
This a vegetarian dish that is eaten on the first day of the New Year. They believe that killing should not be allowed on that day and thank the Gods for a good year.

Candy tray
This usually contains eight compartments filled with symbolic foods to represent good health, unity, prosperity, fertility, good relationships, happiness and many good sons.

Spring rolls and clams
This is usually a symbol of health.

Fish
Served with the head and tail, this usually symbolises a good end to the year and a bright beginning to the next.

Not everyone shares the same views when it comes to love. Some have a more realistic view, while others daydream about their knight in shining armour coming to rescue them – this, my friend, makes you a hopeless romantic.

A hopeless romantic is someone who waits for their ‘soul mate’ and stops at nothing until they find them. They are in love with the idea of being in love and their view of romance can border on fantasy at times.

Here are the signs that you might be a hopeless romantic:

  • You are known to shed a fear tears while watching a film
  • You think there’s a possibility that you can have a ‘great love’ as strong as Carrie Bradshaw and Mr Big
  • You are overly happy about friends who have a love life you don’t have
  • You manage to work yourself into tears when listening to love songs
  • You dream about long-term relationships with your ex

If you’re ticking more boxes than you’d like, then you’re a hopeless romantic.

As Rebecca Bloomwood found out in Confessions of a Shopaholic, some people simply indulge in things – usually material things – that they don’t particularly need and find happiness in it.

But, new study shows that using shopping as a way of dealing with problems can prove to be more effective than once thought – finally an excuse to spend more.

Researchers in Michigan found that ‘retail therapy’ can help people feel more in control of their own lives while lifting up their spirits at the same time.

They carried out three experiments and found that those who bought something were three times happier than those who only did window shopping.

Other studies also back these results, they have also shown that shoppers generally go through positive feelings when they reflect on their recent purchases.

God help the person in charge of our credit card bill this month. Oh wait…eeek!

Forget candlelight dinners and soft lighting – grab the girls and head to Finland this Valentine’s Day.

The beautiful country shuns the traditional loved-up romance of February 14th and instead calls the event ‘Ystävänpäivä’, which translates as ‘Friend’s Day’. Perfect if you’re a singleton or if you just fancy an alternative city break.

This winter is actually a particularly spectacular time to head to the Nordic country as it is classed as being the best time in 50 years to see the magical northern lights.

Enjoy a reindeer ride with mates in Lapland or if nightlife is more your thing, head to Helsinki. The city boasts a lively atmosphere and is packed full of contemporary and traditional restaurants.

Keeping with the Nordic tradition of sending friends cards and gifts, why not send your BFF a soppy card instead of your significant other.

Who said Valentine’s Day was just for loved up couples?

One of our favourite divas knows just how to take charge of both the stage and the red carpet.

Katy wore not one, not even two, but FOUR outfits last night, each one showcasing her cute personality and strong on-stage presence.

Our favourites are the blue Cinderella-esque gown and the tutu style maroon knee length dress with snake detailing.

Least favourite will have to go to the Braveheart-style costume for her performance, complete with a light up cross – hmm.

We love Katy’s looks, what do you think?

Running is an increasingly popular sport and there seems neon coloured joggers popping up everywhere you look. However, those who assume that running is nothing more than throwing on a pair of shoes are just asking for trouble.

Stick with us and you’ll be an injury-free running pro…

Buy the right shoes
Running shoes can help reduce injury as they alter your form and how your body deals with the repetitive movements. If your feet hurt after a run, it means that they are not the right ones for you.

Make sure you have a strong core
By keeping your muscles, ligaments and tendons nice and strong, you will automatically protect yourself. When your body is strong, it tells your brain to brace for impact before the foot hits the ground. Remember, strong is the new skinny.

Know your limits
Injuries can happen when you push yourself too far. Build up your running distance a little at a time and don’t assume that you will be able to run that 10k after a few laps around your estate. You won’t.

Now stop looking for excuses and get out there…
