legs

There's a common belief that if you want to tone your legs and boost your bum, you should devote all your energy to squats and leg lifts of every kind.

That really won't get you there ladies.

The problem: While you'll build sleek muscle (score!), no one will notice if it's hidden under a layer of body fat.

To reveal a slimmer bottom half, you need to add a fat-burning total-body routine to those targeted moves that reshape your hips, thighs, and bum.

Luckily for you, we've got both right here! Stick to these workouts and you'll be easing into those skinny jeans in no time.

Side leg raise

Lie on your left side, rest your head on your left arm, and place your right hand on the floor in front of your chest.

Your legs should be straight with your right leg on top of your left leg.

Without moving any other part of your body, slowly raise your right leg as high as you can. Pause, then return to the starting position.

Clamshell

Lie on your left side with your hips and knees bent 45 degrees. Stack your right leg on top of your left leg, heels together.

Keeping your feet together and left leg on the floor, raise your right knee as high as you can without your heels coming apart.

Pause, then return to the starting position.

Hip raise

Lie face-up on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.

Squeeze your glutes and press into your heels to raise your hips until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.

Pause, then slowly lower back to the starting position. That's one rep. Repeat about 10-15 times.

Cross-body Mountain Climber

Start at the top of the pushup position, with your body forming a straight line from head to heels.

Keeping your abs braced, pick up your right foot and slowly bring your right knee toward your left shoulder. Then return to start.

Shaving can be the biggest chore EVER. You miss spots you can’t see, your skin can get irritated and you realise at the last moment your razor is rusty and unusable – gah!

Here are some shaving hacks that will make shaving your legs easier and leave you with soft, smooth skin every time.

1. Skip the shaving cream and grab your hair conditioner or baby oil
Many of you may already be aware that using hair conditioner to shave your legs will leave you with super smooth legs at half the price. For those who didn’t know, you need to get on this! Using baby oil is said to make smoothness last even longer.

2. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
It may seem  like a lot of effort to exfoliate your legs before you even get around to shaving them, but it will be worth it in the long run. Exfoliating your legs will ensure you avoid any unwanted ingrown hairs as well as decreasing the risk of cutting yourself.

3. Double shave
If you have a bit more time on your hands – then this is the tip for you. This isn’t just a tip for any old Saturday night, this is for the weddings and weekends away on your calendar! In a bowl, mix olive oil and sugar, exfoliate your legs with it and then shave. Then, apply more and shave again. Also, do this somewhere you won’t slip on any oil if it accidentally gets anywhere.

4. Moisturise
The importance of moisturising before and after shaving cannot be overlooked. You can use oil or cream – just make sure you do it. Moisturising before shaving can prep the skin and help avoid ingrown hairs. Afterwards, you need to moisturise to ensure your skin doesn’t dry out.

5. Dealing with razor burn
Those red, bumpy marks on your skin after a shave can have you reaching for the tights. To avoid this in the first place, the key is to exfoliate and moisturise. But if it’s too late for that, try holding a warm, but not hot, facecloth on the area and then moisturise with a natural product, such as coconut oil.

We love Millie Mackintosh here, and when she compliments or applauds a brand we are all over it.

Millie has pretty great legs and while she works out – quite a lot – it seems exercise isn’t all that she does to get her legs looking the way they do. The former Made in Chelsea star posted a picture to her Instagram account holding Nip + Fab Cellulite Fix and wrote: “The weeks work outs are done! This is my @nipandfab post work out essential #bringontheweekend.”

The reality star has nothing but good things to say about the product, saying to Handbag.com: “I was looking for a product to help firm up my skin and help with a bit of cellulite before I got into a bikini and I found Nip + Fab’s cellulite cream.”

“I definitely feel like it’s nice to have something that works in conjunction with working out and healthy eating, if it’s going to make you feel that little bit better.”

However, the star is actually the face of the brand so maybe she’s a little biased.

Yikes – we really hope Lindsay Lohan is ok!

The Mean Girls actress was spotted out and about with very sore looking cuts and bruises covering her legs yesterday.

Yesterday was Lindsay’s 28th birthday, but it didn’t look as if she was enjoying the day much as she hung out in NYC.

The actress has been front page news again this week, as it has been revealed that she is suing the computer game Grand Theft Auto due to one of their characters that Lindsay says is based on her.

Now that the summer is in full swing, it is time to bare our beautiful pins. Unfortunately, after being hidden from all forms of light for so long, they may not be in the best condition.

Here are five ways to ensure perfect pins for the summer:

Shave ‘em
If possible, book yourself an appointment with a beautician to have those legs waxed. But, if your budget doesn’t stretch that far shaving is your best option.

Exfoliate
Make sure you exfoliate your legs well before letting anyone see them – flaky legs are not a good look.

Fake it ’til you make it
Fake tan is great for making your legs look defined and flawless. Use a waterproof one – you know what the weather is like in Ireland – and don’t go overboard.

Moisturise
When your tan is dry, rub a little moisturiser down the centre of your shin. This will reflect the light, giving them a nice sheen. Why not go for one with a little added shimmer for added effect?

Exercise
Nobody wants wobbly thighs, so make sure you fit in a few lunges, a run or some dancing to have perfectly toned legs.

If you often end up leaving the bathroom with a trickle of blood down your shin, then read on – help is at hand!

Wet or dry shave
Shaving your legs when they are dry can leave you with razor burn so make sure they are wet. Luke warm water is best and make sure to use either a gel or foam.

Taking about gel or foam, what’s the best to go for?
Using a gel will mean you are less likely to nick your skin.

Direction: With or against hair growth?
Going against the hair will give you a better shave and it is definitely easier going from your ankle to your knee than the other way.

When to throw out the razor
You’ll only get about three uses from a disposable razor so chuck it after this.  It becomes blunt and you will be left with a few hairs on your legs.

Shower or bath
Either is just as good. The water running over your legs while you shower or bathe will soften the hairs, making it easier to get those hairs out.

Cleaning the blade
Clean your blade after every stroke to avoid a build up and don’t let it become dry – it will hurt alot!
