Most people know that they should use sunscreen to reduce the risk of skin cancer and premature skin ageing, but there’s an SPF-enhancing secret weapon that’s often overlooked, antioxidants.

While sunscreen provides valuable defence, it's not 100% effective against harmful rays we encounter, even on cloudy days. Antioxidants are vital in boosting UV protection along with sunscreen.

Antioxidants work to provide a more comprehensive level of protection and to minimise the free-radical damage and accelerated skin ageing caused by UV exposure, that results in wrinkles, dark spots, loss of firmness, and other issues.

When incorporating antioxidants into your skincare routine, look for products that combine several antioxidant compounds. The Ultracueticals Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex (RRP €63.50) is formulated with a powerful complex of antioxidants, including Silymarin, Provitamin C, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid.

This advanced serum is specifically designed to complement your daily SPF protection and provide superior environmental protection against photoaging.

Suitable for normal, dry and oily skin types, Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex can be layered under your preferred Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser. It also acts as a primer, creating an ideal base for makeup application.

Ultra Protective Antioxidant Complex: €63.50

Ultra UV Protective Moisturiser SPF50 or SPF30: starting from €50.50

The woman at the centre of Ouzy See and Kady McDermott’s breakup has spoken out against recent claims Ouzy made about her.

The Love Island couple previously announced on July 8 that their romance had come to an end.

At the time, bombshell Kady stated: “Sadly late last night Ouzy's behaviour and actions from the 30th July were brought to my attention,” adding that she was “definitely not prepared to start a relationship off on this foot”.

Credit: ITV

It was then revealed that the Scotsman had spent two nights at a hotel with a girl named Alicia, shortly after being dumped from the Love Island villa.

In an interview with MailOnline earlier this week, Ouzy spoke up about the situation.

“I just want to clear it up, I was in the wrong. I can understand why Kady was upset, the girl [Alicia] set me up, she came to the hotel and I had never done anything with her,” he insisted.

Credit: Kady McDermott Instagram

The 29-year-old went on to confirm that he had previously encountered Alicia in London.

“There was no romantic connection though. This girl’s friends were all posting about it on Twitter and it was muggy and it looked bad on Kady’s side. But I never had a romantic connection with her,” he admitted, before reiterating: “I was set up a little bit and it’s not all true.”

Now, Alicia has taken the opportunity to respond to Ouzy’s claims that she ‘set him up’. Taking to her Instagram stories, she penned: “Imagine thinking you’re important enough to be set up. It’s always easier to find an excuse or shift the blame to someone else. Accept responsibility for your actions.”

Alicia also chose to reshare a quote on her Instagram page, which read: “Y’all better stop choosing sides without knowing the true story. You’ll be surprised how dirty some people are! People create situations and play victim all the time.”

Ouzy has yet to respond to Alicia’s counterclaims.

With the new college year on everyone’s minds, you may be looking to buy a new laptop for the student in your family. When searching for a new laptop, the first and most important thing to consider is the course they will be attending, as this will steer you on what features they may need.

Muriel Graham, Head of Computing at Currys Ireland, looks at the four main student types and outlines what to look out for when choosing a new laptop, giving them all of the power they need without breaking the bank – The All-Rounder, The Business Student, The Creator and The Coder

The All Rounder:

For students starting research or more essay-based courses like Arts, English, or Law, the key thing is to find something reliable, both for while they’re getting through course work and for whenever they find a bit of free time. Not only does this mean you don’t have to look for devices with features and specs that they don’t really need, but it can also help to find something lightweight and portable, ideal for a busy student on the go.

HP 14s-dq2524sa 14" Laptop – Intel® Core™ i3, 128 GB SSD, Silver – €379.00

ASUS Vivobook 15 X1500EA 15.6" Laptop – Intel® Core™ i3, 256 GB SSD, Black –  €429.00

Processors:

In terms of processor, essentially the brain of the laptop, consider models with Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3. These can comfortably run word processor-based programs and standard browser-based tasks like checking emails, research and streaming YouTube.

Storage:

For storage, Currys would recommend these students consider a Chromebook . As Chromebooks are cloud based, meaning the majority of the apps run from cloud as opposed to an internal hard drive, you need far less storage space. Chromebooks with 128GB storage would be sufficient to handle your student’s needs

The Business Student:

For undergrads enrolled in courses like Business, Marketing or Accountancy, Currys would recommend an upgrade in terms of spec. A business student will need a decent processor to get through large amounts of data or hop from one program to another.

ASUS Vivobook 16 X1605EA 16" Laptop – Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Silver – €659.00

ASUS Vivobook 16X K3605ZF 16" Laptop – Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Silver – €1,099.00

Processors:

The Intel Core i5 & AMD Ryzen 5 are both pretty powerful processors, suited for tasks that require more processing power, such as streaming high-res videos or basic video or photo editing.

Outside of that, a long battery life is crucial, as well as a screen that won’t strain their eyes too much during a mammoth study session.

Storage:

For storage, 256GB to 512GB should be enough to run a wide range of programs as well as store any files or assignments.

The Creator:

When it comes to graphic design, multimedia or any other courses that use intensive creative software, a high-performance laptop is a must have investment. These programs can put serious strain on a laptop so it’s crucial to ensure your new purchase is up to the job.

MSI GF63 Thin 15.6" Gaming Laptop – Intel® Core™ i5, RTX 3050, 512 GB SSD – €779.00

HP 14s-dq2514SA 14" Laptop – Intel® Core i7, 512 GB SSD, Silver – €749.00

Processors:

In terms of processor, Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7 deliver enhanced processing power and are specifically designed for media-editing and media-creation tasks, high-end gaming, and similar demanding workloads.

Storage:

For storage, even if you invest in an external hard drive for your child, Currys recommends at least between 512GB to 1TB storage space on the laptop itself for work in progress.

Gaming laptops are a great, overall option for budding creators with huge amounts of storage, high performance processors and a dedicated graphics card. They are also a very cost-effective option for high performance laptops.

The Coder:

Similar to the creator, Currys advises students enrolled in courses like Computer Science, Web Design, Data Analytics to invest in spec. Speed, performance, power, display and battery life are all key for the budding coder/web developer.

HP ENVY x360 15.6" 2 in 1 Laptop – AMD Ryzen™ 7, 512 GB SSD, Black – €1,079.00

LENOVO IdeaPad Flex 5i 14" 2 in 1 Laptop – Intel® Core™ i7, 512 GB SSD, Blue – €829.00

Processors:

The Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7 are excellent processor options here too.

Storage:

These students also tend to use quite task intensive programs, so a minimum of 512GB of SSD storage is needed to keep the laptop running smoothly.

If college tech is top of your to do list, Currys has a massive range of laptops starting from just €199. For those looking for extra advice, Currys has a team of experts across 16 stores nationwide. You can also check out Currys’ extended range, online at www.currys.ie

Jack Whitehall has opened up about his brother’s wedding day.

The comedian celebrated his younger brother, Barney, getting married in Portugal over the weekend, where Jack fulfilled the role of Best Man.

Barney and his wife originally tied the knot in London back in July and headed to sunny Portugal last weekend to celebrate for a second time.

As he reflected on the ‘magical’ celebration, Jack shared a sweet tribute to his sibling, and mentioned how important his family is to him as he prepares to welcome a little one into the world with his girlfriend Roxy Horner.

Sharing a collection of lovely photos from the weekend, Jack posted pictures of him helping Barney get ready on the morning of his wedding, as well as snaps from the reception.

Jack showcased the images to his 3.2M Instagram followers earlier today with the caption, “Had the most magical weekend celebrating two of my favourite people in the world”.

“I am so lucky to have a brother who is my best mate as well (though he may not be after the speech I gave) and am overjoyed he has found someone who makes him so happy”.

Whitehall closed off by sweetly adding, “Family is so important to me and crazy to think mine is about to get a little bit bigger!”.

Many fans of the Travels with my Father star headed to the comments to share their joy over the brilliant photos.

“Love you and your family Jack!”, said one fan.

A second wrote, “Love your family! Thanks for sharing them with us!”.

“I love your whole family dynamic. Congratulations to your brother and sister-in-law”, added another commenter.

After celebrating his brother’s first wedding ceremony in London last month, Jack similarly explained, “Had the most amazing day yesterday celebrating my two favourite people getting married”.

Jack and Roxy announced they were expecting their bundle of joy back in May. They described the pregnancy reveal as ‘the best news to share’.

Ageing and signs of ageing on the skin are important concerns for women. However, current cosmetics and skincare methods fall short of meeting women’s needs. That is why women are turning to aesthetic medicine and more invasive techniques.

The skin appears visibly more youthful in just 30 minutes. The treatment begins with exfoliation then application of the Age Influx Concentrate, which stimulates epidermal regeneration.

Next, the Vibrosmoothing electrode is used to smooth the skin, focusing on areas of concern. Finally, the Vibrodermic electrode specifically targets the dermis, emitting a frequency that helps smooth wrinkles and firm the skin.

RESTORES YOUTHFUL SKIN

Step One: Age Influx Concentrate:

The Application of Age Influx Concentrate offers a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation. This formula boosts skin microcirculation, stimulates cutaneous innervation and regenerates elastic fibres.

Step Two: Vibrosmoothing Electrode:

The remarkable effects of the treatment involve the smoothing of the epidermis and a reduction of skin contractility. This transformative process evens skin tissue, minimises wrinkles, using two vibration frequencies.

Step Three: Vibrodermic Electrode:

This approach boasts multiple benefits, including the effective smoothing of wrinkles and lines and it actively reduces contractility through pressure.

AGE INFLUX: THREE EFFECTS

1: Regenerates the epidermis through skin microcirculation

With age, blood flow decreases. As the basal layer of the skin receives less oxygen, energy, vitamins and amino acids, cell renewal in the epidermis slows.

The active ingredient LIFE INFLOW targets thermal receptors and causes a sensation of heat as well as vasodilation. The renewed blood flow helps regenerate the epidermis and restore density to the dermis, and the new skin that appears looks smoother and more youthful.

2: Stimulates regeneration through cutaneous innervation

With age, the different sensory nervous systems in the skin show decreased activity. The skin is a living organ, and its metabolism also depends on nerve impulses. The active ingredient LIFE INFLUX restarts cutaneous innervation and stimulates cell renewal.

3: Regenerates cells with 56 cellular active ingredients

With age, fibroblasts show decreased activity. Fibroblasts are specialised cells in the dermis that produce structural support proteins and restore the skin’s firmness and tonicity. They play a role in the metabolism of scar formation (elastin, collagen, reticulin, etc.). The active ingredient FIBERLIFE is derived from a cell culture medium (20 amino acids, 14 vitamins and 22 biological elements).

It has been revealed that Vera Pauw will no longer be the manager for the women’s Republic of Ireland football team.

The FAI have announced that they won’t be extending Vera’s contract as manager after she held the role for four years. Pauw’s current contract will expire at the end of this month.

The news comes after the FAI board met yesterday evening to discuss whether or not they would be going in a new managerial direction and after hours of talks, they decided Vera would not be offered a new contract.

Jonathan Hill, the FAI chief executive, released a statement after the board came to their final decision.

He stated, “On behalf of the Football Association of Ireland, we would like to thank Vera for her hard work and commitment over the past four years and wish her well for the future”.

“In particular, I wish to acknowledge the role she played in leading Ireland to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 where our women’s team made history and inspired a nation”.

Hill went on to add, “The future is bright for women and girls’ football and our focus now is building upon the work done by Vera and the historic achievements of our women’s team, which we see as a platform to support the next phase of the journey for the team, and more broadly the development of women and girls’ football in this country”.

The news comes just weeks after Ireland’s last game in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia.

Pauw became manager back in 2019 when she took over from Colin Bell. There has been no update from the FAI as to who will be stepping into Pauw’s boots.

Vera is yet to comment on the news.

The county of Tipperary has been devastated by a second car crash to occur in recent days.

A three-year-old boy, as well as a man and a woman both aged in their 40s, tragically lost their lives yesterday evening outside the town of Cashel.

Shortly before 9pm, the car they were travelling in crashed on the Windmill Road. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

The three-year-old boy was sitting in the back of the car, alongside the man and woman, who are believed to be the child’s grandparents. Tragically, the three back seat passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the car and a female front seat passenger, who are both aged in their 20s, have since been taken to Tipperary University Hospital. Both of them continue to be treated for serious injuries.

The road in Windmill Knockbulloge is currently closed to road users, and diversions are in place. Gardaí have since opened an investigation into the crash.

The tragic accident comes less than a week after the nearby community of Clonmel experienced their own devastating fatalities on the road.

18-year-olds Zoey Coffey, Nicole Murphy and Grace McSweeney, as well as Grace’s older brother Luke McSweeney (24), all passed away when the car Luke was driving crashed on the Mountain Road, just outside the town.

The group had been on their way to a Leaving Cert party, after the teenage girls had received their exam results earlier that day.

Speaking about the heartbreaking losses, Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne noted that the county must come together in grief once again.

“We’ve seen the way the community rallied around during the week for Clonmel, and I am sure the community in Cashel will rally around the family involved in this accident as well,” he stated, adding: “There are sad days ahead for them all now.”

Clelia Theodorou has shared a devastating health update as she prepares to welcome her first child into the world.

The former The Only Way is Essex star has revealed she’s broken both of her legs and feet after she was involved in a car crash back in May.

Now, as she reaches 35 weeks of pregnancy, the 28-year-old has shared an update on her recovery after having had multiple operations.

Posting photos of herself in a hospital bed and another of herself in a wheelchair to her 196K Instagram followers, Clelia, who announced her pregnancy back in March, opened up about her new reality.

“I still have another surgery to get through and there have been hard some pushbacks, unforeseen delays and a lot of pain along the way but the main thing is our little baby is battling through it with me, keeping me going each day, making me more determined and giving me so much strength, more than I ever I thought I would have in a situation as difficult as this”.

Theodorou went on to admit, “It would be a dream to be standing, up on my feet before our bundle of joy arrives but I just have to take each day as it comes”.

“Having never broke a bone in my body or experienced anything even close to the pain and discomfort I’ve been through, I’m truly proud of myself and my body for how far I’ve come since that day, the worst day of my life”.

It has been disclosed that the royal family had an input on Meghan Markle’s final years on Suits.

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was best known as the actress behind attorney Rachel Zane in the TV legal drama Suits.

The 42-year-old appeared in seven seasons of the show, before leaving the series in 2018 ahead of her royal wedding to Prince Harry.

Suits creator Aaron Korsch has now gone on to claim that the royal family had a say on the show’s scripts.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Korsch recalled one incident that initially had him feeling ‘irritated’.

“My wife’s family, when they have a topic to discuss that might be sensitive, they use the word ‘poppycock’,” he began.

Credit: USA Network

“Let’s say you wanted to do something that you knew your husband didn’t want to do, but you wanted to at least discuss it, and in just discussing it, you wouldn’t hold him to anything he said, you’d be like, ‘It’s poppycock,’” he continued.

Korsch went on to explain the scene in Suits that he wished to include the word.

“Mike and Rachel were going to have a thing, and as a nod to my in-laws, we were going to have her say, ‘My family would say poppycock.’ And the royal family did not want her saying the word. They didn’t want to put the word ‘poppycock’ in her mouth,” he confessed.

Credit: USA Network

“I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together of her saying ‘cock.’ So, we had to change it to ‘bulls***’ instead of ‘poppycock,’ and I did not like it because I’d told my in-laws that [poppycock] was going to be in the show,” he added.

Regarding the royal family’s access to the scripts, Korsch detailed: “I was aware that they were reading them because I got the feedback, but I don’t remember the process by which they got them.”

In the end, Korsch detailed that he had ‘sympathy’ for the line change request, noting: “I wouldn’t want somebody doing that to [Meghan] either.”
