Zac Efron has reacted to the news that Matthew Perry had given him his blessing to play himself in a biopic.

The late Friends star, who died suddenly on October 28 at the age of 54, previously worked with the former High School Musical actor over a decade ago.

Back in 2009, Zac and Matthew starred together in a teen comedy film, titled 17 Again. In the movie, Zac played the teenage version of Matthew’s character Mike, a 37-year-old man who wishes he could start his life all over again.

Now, almost two weeks on from Matthew’s untimely passing, Zac has been revealing his reaction to the loss of his former co-star.

Speaking to People last night during the premiere for his film The Iron Claw, the 36-year-old was asked if he could share his thoughts when he first heard the news of Matthew’s death.

“Of course, I’m devastated for his loss. He was a mentor to me and we made a really cool film together,” he recalled.

“I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there because I’ve just learned so much from him from his whole life,” Zac explained.

The Greatest Showman star also addressed recent revelations that Matthew had been planning a biopic movie about his life, and that the late actor had Zac in mind for the role.

“I’m honoured to hear that he was thinking of me to play him, and we’ll see. I’d be honoured to do it,” he gushed in response.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Matthew’s friend Athenna Crosby previously detailed his plans for his biopic.

“He had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie, and he said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version [of himself] and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that,” she noted, adding that Matthew had been “looking forward to sharing more about his story.”

Christmas lovers rejoice! John Lewis have finally released their Christmas advert.

While the end of the year draws closer, we always look forward to John Lewis’ Christmas ad to bring the festive spirit.

Although we’re normally left needing a box of tissues after the retailer’s annual emotional advertisement, this year, they’ve opted for a different approach.

Rather than a tear-jerking ad that is sure to leave you blubbering, John Lewis decided to choose a comical theme for this festive period, while bringing a feeling of nostalgia and togetherness.

Credit: John Lewis via YouTube

Andrea Bocelli sings the song Festa, which means ‘celebration’ in Italian. The tune was written and produced by Italian duo Le Feste Antonacci just for John Lewis.

The clip starts with a young boy buying what he thinks is a ‘perfect Christmas tree’ set to grow at home, but instead turns out to be a seed for a Venus flytrap!

As the plant grows, it causes mayhem in the house. From making a mess with decorations, almost eating the family’s dog and waking them up in the middle of the night, Snapper is brought out to the cold while a more conventional tree takes its place.

In true Christmas spirit, the family come around to the idea of a Venus flytrap instead of a traditional pine tree on Christmas morning.

The advert ends by reminding viewers to ‘Let Your Traditions Grow’.

Rosie Hanley, Director of Marketing at John Lewis, told Digital Spy, “Lots of people tell us that the John Lewis ad kicks off the Christmas season for them”.

“So bringing all that together, we were like, do you know what – it feels like it's a year for a bit more joy and a bit more uplifting. We wanted to bring back the Christmas magic and entertain. We wanted to have a little fun and hopefully that comes through”.

Check out the full trailer below to really get you in the festive mood.

While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, Tallulah was asked by Drew why her family are so honest and open about Bruce’s condition.

She responded, “Well, I think it's twofold. On one hand, it's who we are as a family, but also, it's really important for us to spread awareness about FTD”.

As she went on to speak about how there is so little information about the rare disease, she added, “If we can take something that we're struggling with as a family, and individually, to help other people, to turn it around to make something beautiful about it, that's really special for us”.

The Whole Nine Yards star then revealed how important music had been for Bruce and his children when they were growing up.

“It's a huge part of also how I spent time with him now, is playing music and just kind of sitting in this energy of love. It's really special”.

Dennis Mathews, Lead Research Scientist in Microbiology at Dyson, shares his top tips on how to beat pesky bed bugs and maintain a clean bedroom environment.

What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are a hot topic right now, as more and more of us report having bed bugs in our homes. Bed bugs are small insects, usually found in furniture or on bedding. They feed at night on blood, and their bites can be itchy and irritating. They are visible, measuring about 5mm long on average.

How can I get rid of bed bugs?

For full bed bug infestations, the go-to solution is usually fumigation using chemicals, or a non-chemical heat treatment. There are other steps to take, like washing bedding at a high temperature, and ensuring any potentially contaminated fabrics like clothing or other bedding are kept sealed in plastic until ready to wash.

How do I prevent getting bed bugs?

Bed bugs will likely travel on us, our clothes or our luggage from place to place. They may be picked up in a hotel or on public transport and then enter our homes with us. Ensuring that luggage is kept off the floor whilst you’re away, and isn’t put directly on the bed when you get home is important. Consider storing luggage in an attic or garage away from soft furnishings and clothes between trips. If you are concerned you have picked up bed bugs on your clothing, or you have left clothing on the floor of an infested hotel room, be sure to check it closely, shake it vigorously and put it in the laundry as soon as possible, storing it in a sealed plastic bag until then.

A bed bug infestation likely needs more to remove it than a thorough vacuum and washing your sheets – seek advice from pest removal experts in your region. But there are ways to manage your home environment to keep it clean and healthy, make it less hospitable for bed bugs and also minimise other nasties like pollen, dust and dust mites.

Microbiologist’s top tips for a clean and healthy bedroom:

Remove and wash bedding

Washing sheets and blankets on a 140°F or 195°F wash will help to break down and reduce allergens and kill living nasties like bed bugs or dust mites. While you may vacuum your mattress only a few times a year, its recommended that you launder and change your bedding once a week to remove microscopic skin flakes and keep dust and allergens at bay.

Vacuum your mattress

Many bed bugs on the surface may be removed through vacuuming alone, but you will need a deeper treatment to ensure complete eradication. In any case, vacuuming your mattress regularly throughout the year is important. Other nasties like dust mites can live in our mattresses – they might be microscopic in size, but they’re tenacious. Using a vacuum with a high-power or Boost mode will deliver the suction you need to remove as many mites, skin flakes and allergens as possible.

The Dyson Gen5detect™ (Prussian blue/Copper) has an RRP of €949.99 but is on special offer for €849.99 for Black Friday.

Use a Hair Screw Tool or Mini motorised tool in handheld mode which won’t damage the surface of your mattress but has stiff nylon bristles that can agitate the fibres in your mattress and loosen dust and debris. Make sure that the vacuum you’re using has a fully sealed filtration system to avoid allergens or debris being expelled back into your face as you clean!

Focus on hard-to-reach areas

Once you’ve deep cleaned the surface of your mattress, pay attention to any crevices or folds where dust and allergens can gather. For cleaning around the edge of your mattress where there may be a seam, use a Crevice Tool in handheld mode to remove any hidden dust. Don’t forget under your bed as well, as dust mites thrive in dark, warm and humid areas with plenty of skin flakes that often remain undisturbed, and bed bugs like dark, untouched locations where they can hide. Regular vacuuming can make these places less hospitable.

The Dyson V11 vacuum cleaner has an RRP of €599.99 but is on special offer for €499.99 for Black Friday.

Flip, repeat, remake

Flip your mattress over and vacuum the other side too to keep concentrations of invisible allergens low. You may want to consider using a mattress protector which will absorb excess sweat and dust flakes and can be more easily washed.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Keep watch for any signs of bed bug infestation – bed bugs spread quickly so taking action in the early days of an infestation is important. Look for any spots of blood in the bed, exoskeletons or small brown debris (their faeces). A sweet or musty smell might also be a sign of infestation.

Stay tidy & vacuum regularly

Try to remove clutter around the bedroom to provide fewer opportunities for bed bugs to hide. Keep the space around and under the bed clear and regularly vacuum these areas.

Dyson has some terrific Black Friday deals available to shop here.

Over the past few years we've become quite accustomed to the humble staycation, as we explored everything this gorgeous green isle has to offer! From stunning clifftop views and drives to gorgeous quirky towns and villages full of history, we have culture, scenery and craic to spare!

And one of our favourite spots for a weekend getaway? The stunning rebel county of Cork! With its city full of fun-filled bars, top notch restaurants and quirky tourist attractions and beautiful countryside villages and scenic landscapes, it has everything to offer every tourist. Check out our top picks for things to do in the city – including a few off-the-beaten track things you may not have heard of before!

Shadon bells in St. Anne’s Church

(Discover Cork)

An unexpected gem in the heart of the city that you wouldn’t find unless you had researched beforehand, St Ann’s church is an iconic part of Cork’s landscape. More commonly referred to as Shandon, it’s famous for its unusual salmon-topped spire, an ode to the fishing trade that thrived in Cork City’s harbour.

But hidden up in the steeple in a historical journey of the church itself and the famous Shandon bells – which you can actually play! Tourists have the opportunity to ring out a tune across the city on the church bells, with a song book and instructions provided – a seriously unique and fun experience in the rebel county!

Crypts beneath Triskel Arts Centre

(Triskel Arts Centre)

Triskel Arts Centre is a deconsecrated church that has been turned into an arts centre, right in the middle of the city. A cultural hub, they host art showings, concerts, shows and many other live events, with the gorgeous 1700s neoclassical Georgian church serving as their auditorium.

But the most interesting part? The crypt below the old church!

Housing many of Cork’s most prominent 1800 families – including a number of Cork mayors – the crypt can be seen from a glass viewing box that was put in during the 2009  renovations. From there, you an see two unearthed graves and more burials beneath the viewing box floor. There were a number of family mausoleums discovered there as well as a human heart in a box marked ‘1549’. The box wasn’t discovered til 1863. This unique space is definitely worth the visit if you’re in the city centre!

Vibes and Scribes

(Vibes and Scribes)

This one is for the book lovers! Your head may have been turned by the admittedly gorgeous Waterstones on Patrick’s Street, but if you head off the beaten track a little down to the river on Lavitt’s Quay, you’ll find a gorgeous independent bookstore called ‘Vibes and Scribes’.

The store has two entrances – one to its secondhand store where you’ll find amazing deals and one to its main store that features stunning editions of your favourite books, the most gorgeous literary knick knacks and all the books you could ever hope to read! Definitely one to check out if you love books.

Crawford Gallery

(Crawford Art Gallery)

Originally built in 1724 as Cork’s custom house, this stunning gallery is a treat for art, history and architecture lovers alike! A national institution, wandering these halls you’ll be treated to visual arts, both historic and contemporary, as well as the gorgeous stained glass windows, magnificent staircases and a cute café. Their collection comprises over 3,000 works, ranging from eighteenth-century Irish and European painting and sculpture, through to contemporary video installations.

But the biggest treat is just to the left as you come in the front door. Transport yourself to Ancient Greece and Rome in this stunning gallery with their collection of Greek and Roman sculpture casts, brought to Cork in 1818 from the Vatican Museum in Rome. Admission to the gallery is free, so this is really not one to miss.

University College Cork

(UCC)

Not just for the students! UCC is an amazing campus with some seriously stunning sights. The iconic Quad is the most scenic spot on campus, and it’s often likened to Hogwarts with it’s castle-like structure, inspired by Middle-ages architecture. Established in 1849, the university only took on 115 students in its first year, opening the school with an inaugural ceremony in the great hall – also known as the Aula Maxima, a place where students now take exams and university events take place. Duck into the imposing building to see both Aula Maxima and the ogham stones housed there -just don’t step on the Quad’s grass, or you’ll fail all your exams!

While on campus be sure to check out the Honan Chapel, a quirky and gorgeous little chapel in which only UCC graduates can get married in. The tiling on the floor will blow your mind, and rubbing the nose of the George Boole bust outside the library will give you good luck in your exams!

Fitzgerald Park

(Cork Heritage)

Right across the road from UCC, this charming park is best seen in spring and summer when it’s a riot of colour! The rose gardens and unusual structures around the park will keep you entertained while you sip at your coffee from the park’s Natural Bakery. Stop into the museum on site as well to get a comprehensive history of the city and all the local history.

Cork City Gaol

(Cork City Gaol)

Feel like getting creeped out and learning something at the same time? Cork’s old city goal is right across the water and over shaky bridge from Fitzgerald’s Park. Overlooking the whole city, the spooky structure has been turned into an interactive museum that chronicles the building’s fascinating and dark history.

Learn about the inmates housed there form amazing tour guides and how the goal ran day to day – from what food they ate, to what prison sentences were served there. The expert team will be able to answer all your questions and give you a truly memorable experience in this hidden gem.

The English Market

(The Doyle Collection)

Fancy a wander for the afternoon? If you’re shopping around Cork, you have to stop into the English Market, especially if you’re a foodie. Artisanal foods, banter with butchers and a gorgeous café that allows you to overlook all the mayhem of the market below, this beautiful spot is quintessential Cork and a must-see.

Other gorgeous shops to check out are Unbound on Bridge Street for gorgeous handmade items and quirky home ware and Wild Design inside the shopping centre on Paul’s Street for beautiful prints, jewellery, clothing and more.

Nano Nagle Place

(Nano Nagle Place)

Once an old convent, Nano Nagle Place has been reimagined as a heritage centre, celebrating the story of Nano Nagle and the city in which she worked to educate and care for the poor. Visitors can learn about the Presentation Order and all the wonderful work they do in the community and abroad to carry on Nano’s extraordinary charity while enjoying a tranquil and absolutely stunning environment. Check out the beautiful gardens and café while you’re there and learn a little something new!

Franciscan Well Brewery

(Discover Ireland)

Like pizza? Like beer? Then the Franwell is absolutely the place for you. An iconic Cork pub, this is known for its onsite brewery serving up delicious craft beers – but don’t worry, they also serve ciders and wines and soft drinks! But the major star of the show here is their pizza oven out in the funky and welcoming beer garden. Made with local ingredients, the pizzas are the perfect pair to your Franciscan Well beer, making for a gorgeous afternoon or evening chilling in their garden!

Some other great food spot sot check out in Cork are Fionbarra’s beer garden for a great lunch option in a quirky beer garden, Arthur Mayne’s wine bar for some delicate cheeseboards perfectly paired with excellent wines and Market Lane for some truly fine dining.

Enjoy your visit to the rebel county!

Perrie Edwards has shared an exciting update about releasing new music.

Known for being a member of Little Mix before the band went their separate ways in 2022, Perrie is set to bring out an album of her own.

The mum-of-one has now delighted fans by giving an insight into her process of creating new music and has revealed she's found a passion for writing songs.

Perrie posted a video to her 19.3M Instagram followers of her getting ready for the day with her glam team.

She revealed, “So, update on the album, it’s finished- no I’m joking. I think I’m in a very good place with it right now. It’s been an amazing process”.

“I’ve met some incredible writers, incredible producers, people I've worked with before, new people and it’s just been really fun. I’ve loved it”.

“It’s been a very different process, I would say, to being in the band. I think it kind of has brought me out of my shell a lot because I used to use them as like my comfort blanket in the studio”.

“It’s quite intimidating writing with amazing writers and producers in the room. If you have an idea you're like, ‘What about this?’ but then you feel a bit silly”.

The 30-year-old continued, “So I have had to come out of my shell a lot and I think going into the process, I sat down with my label and I was like, ‘Look, I don’t know if I wanna write that much. I don’t know if I’m a very good writer. I’ve always been with the girls, so I don’t know if I’m that great at it. I don’t know’”.

“And then as the process went on and I started kind of pushing myself a little bit more and more, I realised that I actually love to write music, which was a surprise to me”.

“So I built a studio in my house, well I didn’t, my partner Alex did which was the best present ever. So it’s just been nice to be at home and be relaxed and be in my own environment and just gaining the confidence to write my own music".

Edwards went on to admit, “The temptation I have to leak, to tease is ridiculous. You know me, I love a leak or a tease or a snippet or whatever but I’ve banked a lot of content for you all and I think you’re gonna be excited to see it all”.

“Trust me, I am desperate to give you music, but I just want to perfect it and make sure it’s 100% what I want to release to you guys and what I want you to hear so I’m working on it”.

Many fans of the singer shared their joy on the album update in the comments of the post.

One fan wrote, “I’m SOOOOOO excited!!!! can’t wait to hear that beautiful voice again!!”. “I can’t wait to hear your own music”, penned a second fan while another added, “You definitely gonna smash it”.

Stephen Lustig-Webb has been opening up about the injury he sustained which meant he had to pull out of Dancing on Ice.

The former Gogglebox star was set to appear in this year’s skating competition but had to drop out after he fractured his foot during training on the rink.

Stephen previously revealed he would have to be on crutches ‘for a few months’ to help his recovery, and has now opened up about the painful accident.

He also revealed what his fate seems to be in terms of reappearing  on the show in the future.

While speaking to The Sun, the 52-year-old admitted, “I’m really gutted, it’s really hard mentally cos I’m indoors all day now”.

“Training was going really well, I was improving every day and that’s the gutting thing – it isn’t like I was doing the headbanger, I was just doing this simple little move and I just slipped.

Reflecting back to the pain he felt when the injury occurred, Stephen explained, “I screamed in agony, it was awful”.

“When I was on the hospital ward chatting, I said, ‘I need a job where I can just sit at home watching TV’, and someone shouted out, ‘What like Gogglebox?’. The irony!”.

“I’ve allowed myself to be a bit down in the dumps about it and I’ve had to stop watching everyone’s progress on social media but I have to look towards the future and hopefully a new job after Christmas”.

Going into more detail about the incident on the ice, Stephen said, “It was the speed that I came down, on a spin”.

“I knew instantly because the ankle just went completely floppy. I had no control over my foot”.

“The doctor did say another centimetre and the bone would’ve pierced the skin”.

He went on to say, “The pain was so excruciating, someone brought a sick bucket – if it had pierced the skin I would have definitely needed that!”.

Revealing how his recovery is going, he continued, “I’m stuck on the sofa. I’ve tried going on my crutches but I’ve slipped up a few times. Daniel went and got me a wheelchair but it’s made me feel really old and knackered. I’ve gone from feeling 21 to now feeling 61!”.

Stephen then spoke about his future on Dancing on Ice, “I want to bounceback after Christmas – you’ve definitely not seen the last of me”.

“I think someone at ITV has mentioned doing Dancing on Ice again but the priority is obviously getting well now. I feel nervous about skating again. I need to be the bionic man, metal in all my joints! Then they could take me on The Jump”.
