Kate Ferdinand and her family have had a ‘very stressful’ weekend.

The former The Only Way is Essex star opened up about the ordeal to her 1.4M Instagram followers this morning.

Sharing a snap from bed with her dog beside her, the 31-year-old explained how one of her and Rio Ferdinand’s children had an accident that could’ve ended very badly.

“Morning guys! It’s a different type of Monday for me this week, it’s been a really stressful weekend!”, she started off.

“One of the kids had a serious accident, thank goodness they are ok & only ended up with their leg in a cast, it could have been so much worse”.

The Blended podcast host added, “We are definitely being watched over”.

But, that’s not the end of Kate’s worrying weekend as she also revealed that has been diagnosed with shingles.

“I also have shingles. Feeling really rubbish & sore & emotional from this weekends events”.

“So me & Rons are chilling in bed for the morning”, she added before asking her followers for advice after her diagnosis.

The news comes just days after Ferdinand announced she has written a book, How to Build a Family, about modern parenting and her journey through life with a blended family.

The former reality TV star is step-mum to footballer Rio Ferdinand’s three children- 16-year-old Lorenz, 14-year-old Tate and 11-year-old Tia. Rio’s former wife, Rebecca Ellison tragically passed away in 2015 after battling cancer.

Kate and Rio have been together since 2016 and went on to tie the knot in Turkey in September 2019. The pair have a two-year-old son named Cree together.

Speaking about their new roles, both presenters could not hide their excitement.

“I feel hugely privileged to be hosting the EE BAFTAs for the first time and the opportunity to celebrate the very best of the extraordinary range of this year’s films,” 65-year-old Richard gushed.

“I’m so excited to be hosting at this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards with THE Richard E Grant,” Alison exclaimed. “We’re going to have a lot of fun bringing the glitz and glam of backstage to everyone watching at home around the world.”

When it comes to hosting parties, The Kardashians are known for going all-out.

Whether it’s their annual Christmas party, launch event of a new endeavour or a good old-fashioned birthday shin-dig, the family knows what they’re doing.

Over the weekend, the youngest daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Chicago, turned five years old and her mum threw her a fabulous party to celebrate.

The theme of the get-together was Hello Kitty and featured incredible decor to bring the idea to life. From balloon cherry blossom trees and a painting station where Chicago and her pals could decorate Hello Kitty statues, to a smile making spot and teddy-making area, the extravagant party looked like a hoot.

Kim also had a pink indoor ball pit complete with slides to entertain the littles one and a special guest of honour- Hello Kitty herself!

There was plenty of Hello Kitty-themed food including milkshakes, ramen, waffles and even toasted sandwiches with pink cheese to feed any hungry tummies.

Khloe Kardahsian shared a sweet video of the party-goers singing Happy Birthday to Chicago as she blew out the candles on her cat cake. Kim could be seen helping to hold her daughter’s hair away from the flames as Chi’s nan, Kris Jenner, joined in on the sing-song in the background.

The SKIMS CEO posted an adorable tribute for her youngest daughter to her 340M Instagram followers.

Alongside a collection of cute photos of them in matching pyjamas Kim penned, “My twin. Happy 5th Birthday. I really can’t believe you’re 5! I’m so so proud to be your mom, it’s the best feeling in the entire world”.

“You are the cuddliest sweetest silliest most independent caring girl in the whole world and I just love you so much!”.

Dancing on Ice returned to our screens last night where we saw stars battle it out on the ice to ensure their place in next week’s show.

After an evening of glamour and wonderful skating skills, fans were left shocked as Love Island winner, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, ended up on the bottom of the leaderboard.

Ekin-Su and her dance partner Brendyn Hatfield skated to Britney Spears’ Toxic, which included a nod to Love Island as Ekin crawled on the ice as she did on the dating show in order to speak with Jay privately on the terrace.

They were in the bottom two positions with Michelle Heaton and her skating partner Lukasz Rozycki after the six celebs had performed.

After the public casted their votes, it wasn’t enough to get Ekin-Su and Brendyn a guaranteed spot in the series as Holly WIlloughby and Philip Schofeild announced they would face the skate off next week.

The 28-year-old seemed disappointed after she revealed, “I thought the skate was good”, after her post-skate interview.

“There was times when I need to improve skating on my own but I felt I performed as much as I could with the energy that I’ve got”.

She added, “I was ill and we did kind of play it safe this week. It’s week one and I want to prove the judges wrong and I will improve each week, so, rock on week two”.

Fans were shocked that Ekin-Su must face the skate off and shared their opinions online. “Omg this is completely wrong I thought she was the top 2 this week”, wrote one fan.

A second fan penned, “She definitely didn’t deserve to be in the skate off”. “Wrong choice. She wasn't the best but definitely wasn't the worst”, added a third.

“Ekin we’re all behind you! I think you are great and you’ll smash the skate off next week”, said another viewer.

Former Love Island star Shaughna Phillips announced the exciting news that she and her boyfriend, Billy, are expecting their first child together in October of last year.

Since revealing she is pregnant, Shaughna has been keeping her fans up to date on how her pregnancy is going on her Instagram and in her OK! Column

When writing for her column earlier today, the 28-year-old revealed she has tested positive for Group B strep, which she is feeling nervous about as it is a rare condition.

The mum-to-be also revealed that she only found out about Group B strep from TikTok, but luckily, it may not be passed on to her baby just because she has tested positive.

Phillips explained, “I went to my midwife and it turns out that I've tested positive for Group B strep, which is not very good for babies. It means I'll be on antibiotics when I'm in labour and the baby will be monitored for the first 24 hours”.

“On the one side, I obviously wish I didn't have it. But on the other, it was on my list of things to talk about with my midwife anyway as the UK doesn't routinely test for it”.

She continued, “I'm glad I know I have it now so we'll be prepared for when I do have the baby. At least they'll be aware and know exactly what to look out for”.

“I only found out about what Group B strep is from TikTok and I never would have known that I have it had it not been for my water infection because they tested everything during that whole ordeal”.

Shaughna added, “I'm probably in a fortunate position. Just because I've got it, doesn't necessarily mean the baby will get it. I have no symptoms either, which is good”.

“I'm definitely nervous about it, I was gutted when I found out. But at least we know what to expect now”.

Just last week, the former reality TV star told her followers she had pains in her stomach and her baby was moving less than usual, resulting in her going to the hospital.

Doctors discovered Shaughna had a urine infection that could have caused her waters to break early but she went to hospital in time and was given antibiotics.

YouTuber and author Melanie Murphy welcomed her second child, a baby girl, into the world on January 4 and has now opened up about her pregnancy experience.

Melanie took to Instagram to share her honest opinions on pregnancy, revealing she ’loathed’ being pregnant, and reassured other expectant mums that it’s okay to not enjoy pregnancy.

Alongside a video of Melanie while she was still pregnant transitioning to the present day of her holding her bundle of joy, text in the clip reads, “I hated being pregnant. But I adore being her mother”.

The 33-year-old captioned the post, “It’s OKAY to hate being pregnant. There can be so much about pregnancy TO hate… constantly worrying that it might not stick, feeling completely fatigued and uncomfortable and ILL and incapable and unsexy…".

She continuned, "The insomnia, the heartburn, the painful sh*tes, the cravings for things you can’t even eat (like firelighters ), the pelvic pain, the health anxiety, the fear about how your birth might go… I could go on, but I won’t”.

“Because as much as I loathed being pregnant while trying to look after a toddler and trying to work and trying to renovate a bloody house I was also SO grateful through every second of it because I knew what was waiting for me on the other side, if I was lucky enough to make it through the tunnel”.

“My last pregnancy was a breeze compared to this one but a challenging pregnancy has proven to me that how you feel about (and during) your pregnancy doesn’t impact your relationship with your child whatsoever! As soon as it’s done it’s DONE and you get to reap the rewards (newborn cuddles)”.

The mum-of-two went on to remind her fans that people often only share their ‘best bits’ on social media and told her followers not to compare themselves to others online.

“If the internet is making you feel bad about NOT enjoying pregnancy, please remember that people typically just share highlights… ESPECIALLY on their Instagram grids”.

“Even during my last pregnancy (which was pretty smooth sailing in that I didn’t experience any depression and I felt *overall* – great during it) there were of course harder times, which I went into on YouTube”.

The Glass Houses author closed off by adding, “But know that just because people don’t usually post photos of the hard parts of pregnancy… that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. We’re not exactly inclined to take out our cameras when we’re vomiting our guts up, are we!?”.

Many followers of Melanie's that are mums too commented on the post to agree that pregnancy is hard and it should be spoken about more often that it's completely fine to not enjoy the whole experience.

Melanie and her husband, Thomas, have been a couple since 2017 after being friends for over a decade. The pair tied the knot in 2020 and went on to welcome their first child, a baby boy, in September of that same year.

Congratulations – you’ve made it to Friday!

There’s nothing we’re looking forward to more than the thought of kicking back tonight with a bowl of popcorn, our beverage of choice (we’re partial to a glass of wine or a hot chocolate), and sticking on a great film. After all, it’s January and we’ve just done a full week’s worth of work – we deserve to treat ourselves!

Luckily, RTÉ2 is on hand to help us tonight, as it is offering up one of our favourite rom-com films of all time as a special weekend movie.

At 9:45pm tonight, the broadcaster will be showing the classic 27 Dresses on our tellies – and even though we’ve already seen it a million times, we’re still looking forward to having another rewatch!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the plot, 27 Dresses stars Katherine Heigl as single gal Jane, who is fed up with being every bride’s go-to woman for their wedding. More than anything, Jane wants it to be her turn to wear a luscious wedding dress, and she wants her boss (and crush) George, played by Edward Burns, to be waiting for her at the end of the aisle.

However, when Jane’s vibrant and chaotic younger sister Tess (Malin Åkerman) arrives in town and bumps into George, the pair immediately fall into a whirlwind romance and quickly get engaged. Heartbroken, Jane reluctantly begins to help Tess plan her wedding to the secret love of her life, but tensions soon begin to fray between the sisters.

Plus, on top of all of that stress, Jane is also tired of being pestered by wedding journalist Kevin (James Marsden), who is eager to write a huge cover story based on Jane's remarkable collection of 21 bridesmaid dresses.

The question is – will Jane ever get her own happy ending? And will it be with George?

Well, you can find out tonight! Make sure to grab all the snacks and tune into 27 Dresses when it airs at 9:45pm on RTÉ2. Enjoy!

We know the austere, unsmiling faces peering out of our history books, the faces associated with greatness, bloodshed and conquest. The great leaders and speakers and men who inspired thousands to ride into battle in their name, the women who flew in the face of the social norms of their time.

But who would guess at the burning passion, the humanity and vulnerability beneath the legends and histories that became synonymous with these kings and queen’s names?

This is what Daniel Smith uncovers in his book ‘Love Letters of Kings and Queens’, a compilation of the love letters sent between kings and queens and their spouses, lovers and great lost love stories, faded by the relentless march of time.

What shocks readers at the first glance of this gorgeous book published by Quercus, is the sheer amount of prominent royalty whose letters survived the great expanse of time. The earliest date back to 1325, with Edward II and Isabelle of France, and it goes right up to the crown’s latest Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson in 1937 – that’s 612 years of letters for anyone who’s keeping track.

And it’s not just the sheer amount that survived, it’s that the content of these letters that managed to survive for years without scandalous reveal to the monarch’s subjects, only to be unearthed years later in our modern culture of exposition. It’s hard to think now of their equivalent’s being released when we think of the secrecy and calm front that today’s monarchy strive to portray.

We can’t imagine the texts between Will and Kate in their early days being released any more than Henry VIII’s subjects would have been able to imagine his saucy letters to Anne Boleyn being splashed about in pamphlets to the peasants – and yet we’d be just as intrigued as they would have been at the time.

The truth of Queen Elizabeth I

(British Heritage)

We imagine these letters being hidden by their receivers and senders in the bottom of sock drawers, under pillows and beneath mattresses – there’s something strangely intrusive about reading them, as if we’ve caught these great monarchs in their underwear – we’re simultaneously embarrassed and delighted – and no one would ever believe us if we told them. One of France’s most famous and fearsome military leaders, Napoleon, becomes a puppy dog instead of a Rottweiler whilst writing to his first wife, Josephine, who was six years his senior and was later forced to divorce him after not producing an heir.

‘I awake with my thoughts full of you…Sweet and incomparable Josephine, what a strange influence you have on my heart. Are you cross? Do I see you sad? Are you uneasy…You are going away at noon. I shall see you in three hours. Meanwhile my sweet love, accept a thousand kisses, but do not give me any, for they burn up my blood.’

Well, that’s slightly better than a ‘You up?’ text.

Napoleon I | Biography, Achievements, & Facts | Britannica

(Britannica)

Fans of the likes of The Crown will enjoy this glimpse at the more personal side of the historical monarchs and also revel in the scandal that these letters reveal. The extra marital affairs, the secret, potentially gay, lovers, the political intrigue forever mixed up in the marriages that can cause more conflict than the lovers do sometimes!

Of course, it’s not all fiery passion and political gymnastics – there were plenty of unhappy but ‘dutiful’ marriages. Legitimate heirs needed to be provided, appearances needed to be kept up and kings and queens needed to bolster their power – or the entire system crumbles. Mary Queen of Scots loses her power when her scandalous letters to her long-time lover were released to the press and the courts when she was facing trial – letters that claimed she had a hand in killing her husband to be with her lover – a move that was key in leading her to her death later by beheading. Of course, there’s always speculation that the letters were fraudulent and Mary denied ownership of them…

8 Things You Didn't Know About Catherine the Great - HISTORY

(History.com)

And Catherine II, or Catherine the Great as she was more commonly known, seized her power back by staging a coup on her husband – who was her real claim to the throne – changing the course of history forever and asserting her dominance over a Russia searching for a firm leader. Which is how a relatively unknown Austrian princess came to rule one of the largest domains in the world!

Edward and Wallis and the press frenzy they speak of in their letters help us to better understand the monarchy and their relationship with the press in modern times. And as we read their lovelorn and hassled letters to each other in the days leading up to his abdication, we better understand the pressure on modern young royals and the responsibilities and duty that is their birthright but also weigh them down. It sheds a grim light on today when we see Wallis worrying about the brick being thrown through her car window and comments from the public about how she’s ‘American’, ‘divorced’ and therefore a double threat to the crown.

A fabulous read for anyone into their history, fans of The Crown or is just a little nosy! Check out the book here and enjoy a great weekend read.

Florence Pugh has been opening up about diet culture in Hollywood.

The Wonder actress took part in a video for Vogue’s YouTube channel yesterday, in which she taught viewers how to make garlic crostini bread.

Within the chatty video, the 27-year-old began to discuss how food can be a difficult subject for women.

“Body image for women is a major thing,” she explained. “From the moment you start growing thighs and bums and boobs and all of it, everything starts changing. And your relationship with food starts changing.”

The award-winning star then went on to reminisce how her career was affected by diet culture, because she refused to take part in it. “I had a weird chapter at the beginning of my career, but that was because I wasn't complying. I think that was confusing to people, especially in Hollywood,” Florence stated.

“Women in Hollywood, especially young women in Hollywood, are obviously putting themselves in all these ways in order to get whatever opportunity that they need to get because that's just the way that it's been,” the Little Women star continued.

Florence further explained that for one particular role, it was anticipated that she would go on a diet, but she refused to do so. “When I went and I did that project it was expected that you would be on whatever diet you needed to be on and for me that was shocking because I'd never done that before,” she noted.

Florence concluded her discussion by saying that diets are not something that she wants to take part in. “It's not to say other people can't do that but I think I definitely put my foot down in that aspect,” she detailed.

Florence has always been vocal against trolls commenting on her body, particularly on social media. She received particular praise in October of last year, when she got slammed by online trolls for wearing a braless dress to Paris Fashion Week.

“I've lived in my body for a long time. I'm fully aware of my breast size and am not scared of it,” she wrote passionately on Instagram at the time. Well done Florence!

Earlier today, the PSNI announced that they have arrested a man in connection to the murder of Natalie McNally.

Last month on December 18, Natalie was found stabbed to death at her home in Lurgan, Co.Armagh. She was 15 weeks pregnant at the time.

Now, detectives investigating her murder have said they arrested a 46-year-old man in the south Belfast area today, January 13.

The man has been taken to Mulgrave Police Station and is currently being questioned by detectives.

Last week, police shared an update on their investigation to say they had been doing house-to-house enquiries in the Lisburn area.

A car was seized from the Lisburn and Castlereagh area, and was taken away for further examination.

There have been two previous arrests made in connection to Natalie’s murder but both men, aged in their 30’s, have been released on bail and no charges were made.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness previously issued a statement about Natalie and her unborn baby’s tragic deaths. He explained, “The deaths of Natalie and her unborn baby have left unimaginable heartache to a loving family, whose world has been turned upside down”.

The Detective Chief Inspector went on to say CCTV footage has been shared to the public in the hopes of somebody being able to identify the suspect.  “We have released CCTV footage for all to see, and our efforts to identify the man in this footage remain ongoing”.

“You’ll see the suspect arriving at Silverwood Green that night at 8.52pm, and you’ll see the same figure walking away at 9.30pm. I want to keep this image firmly in your mind”.

McGuinness also explained there is a reward of up to £20,000 being offered by Crimestoppers, an independent charity, for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Natalie’s murderer.

Queen Rihanna’s comeback is almost here!

The Grammy award-winning singer has been teasing her hugely-anticipated return to the music scene, ahead of her Super Bowl LVII Halftime show next month.

Taking to social media earlier today, the 34-year-old treated her fans to a teaser video for her performance.

A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri)

Captioned with a ‘ssssh’ emoji, the We Found Love singer can be seen wearing a luxurious, lime green fur coat and walking through a catwalk, as the voices of journalists and fans exclaim over her. “It’s been 2,190 days,” one says, whereas another gasps, “Dude, Rihanna, we’ve waited for you.”

At the end of the video, the music icon slowly reaches the front of the camera, before letting out a ‘ssh’ and putting a finger to her lips. We got chills watching it!

Rihanna initially confirmed in September of last year that she would be headlining the prestigious music slot. She is due to take to the stage for the first time in five years at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on February 12.

“I can’t believe I even said yes,” Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight after the news was confirmed. “It was one of those things that even when I announced it, I was like, ‘OK, I can’t take it back. Now, it’s like final’”.

“The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, it’s an entertainer’s dream to be on a stage like that,” she added. “But it’s nerve-racking. You want to get it right. You know, everybody’s watching. And they’re rooting for you. And I want to get it right.”

However, the 2023 show is not the first time that the singer has been given the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl. In 2018, Rihanna was offered the chance to headline the 2019 Halftime Show, but she declined the offer in solidarity with San Francisco player Colin Kaepernick, the first NFL player to take the knee against police brutality in 2016.

Rihanna has been quiet on the music scene since 2016, marking the release of her eighth studio album Anti. Her last live performance on stage was at the 2018 Grammy Awards, and ever since then, her fans have been begging for her return.

We’re so glad to see Queen RiRi once again!
