A Texas mother has returned home after having a near-death experience following the birth of her second child.

Krystina Pacheco welcomed a baby girl named Amelia into the world on October 24 of last year. Krystina gave birth via C-section, and the birth itself went extremely well. The mum-of-two was looking forward to being reunited with her husband Jacob and two-year-old son Owen.

However, two days later, the 29-year-old started to feel unwell with a fever, shortness of breath and vomiting. After taking ibuprofen for a short while, the symptoms continued to worsen.

Krystina was sent by her doctor to her local emergency department, where the seriousness of her illness was soon discovered. She was then airlifted to hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with septic shock. The condition itself is life-threatening, and occurs when the body has an extreme reaction to infection.

Speaking to ABC News about her experience, Krystina recalled the terror that she and her family felt. “My husband, I could just hear him saying, 'Please come back to us, please, your babies need you. I need you. I need you to be here and help me with our babies,' and that's the last thing I remember,’” she said.

Although medication helped her to recover, the effects of it cut off the circulation in both her hands and feet, which, unfortunately, led to them needing to be amputated.

“My hands and feet were black. They looked like a person who had gotten frostbite," Krystina shockingly described.

“I was just breaking down and being absolutely crushed," she added. "And crying with my family, crying with Jacob, and just being sad that my life would no longer be the same."

After a few months in hospital, Krystina was then moved to a rehabilitation centre, where she began the process of learning to live with her body’s changes. Thankfully, four months after giving birth to her daughter, the Texas mum has now been able to return home permanently.

"We're waiting for the healing process to happen on her legs, but her arms are doing really well, and hopefully we'll be starting the prosthetic training,” Krystina’s husband Jacob spoke proudly.

We’re wishing Krystina and her family well.

"At five weeks I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which is severe chronic nausea and vomiting with no relief,” the 34-year-old shared. “It is 24-7. I literally didn't get out of bed for two months."

Martha and Michael took part in the sixth series of Married At First Sight Australia. The pair got married on the show in 2019, before getting engaged properly in December 2021.

Providing your body with the right nutrients is one of easiest ways to boost your immune system and ward off illnesses like colds and flu. We’re sharing our top five immune boosting foods that you should be buying in your weekly shop this week. Maybe put the chocolate bar down and pick up one of these instead?

Berries

As well as being the perfect snack for anyone on the go, berries are also chock-full of antioxidants which help your body fight oxidative stress which can lead to illness.

In addition to improving skin tone and nourishing hair, berries provide your body with antioxidants and vitamins which will protect against the standard cold and flu while also reducing the risk of arthritis, macular degeneration and cataracts.

Top tip: Sprinkle berries on your morning porridge for an instant, but natural sweetener.

Yoghurt

While we all know we should stock up on natural yoghurt following a course of antibiotics, it’s also worth including this dairy source in your daily diet.

Be sure to stock up on yoghurt which will provide your body with healthy bacteria and protect the intestines from germs which can lead to illness.

Top tip: If natural yoghurt isn’t to your taste, why not mix it with a variety of berries for a fresh and tasty snack?

Chilies

Let's face it, if you're going to stock up on chilies then winter is the time to do it!

Chilles are chock-full of capsaicin which is known to boost your immune system, so as well as providing some much needed comfort on a cold night, a spicy homemade curry will protect the body against illness.

Top tip: Don't overdo it on your first go!

Wheatgerm

A small helping of wheatgerm is one of the easiest ways to protect your body against the typical illnesses which emerge at this time of the year.

Packed full of vitamin E, the consumption of wheatgerm will protect your body against head colds and respiratory infections, so be sure to make this foodstuff a kitchen staple in your home.

Top tip: Sprinkle over cereal or add to your daily juice!

Tea

While most of us drink tea as a source of comfort or merely as a mid-morning or afternoon habit, how many of us know how beneficial our habitual cuppa really is?

Whether you favour black tea or prefer its green sibling, tea is chock-full of antioxidants which will protect the immune system against disease, with studies showing that those who drank tea for a duration of four weeks boasted a stronger immune system than those who didn't.

Top tip: Alternate your daily coffee with a cup of green tea to protect and nurture your body.

Lucy Fallon has announced her newborn son’s name and shared how she and her boyfriend Ryan made their decision on the lovely moniker.

The Coronation Street star is best known for her time as Bethany Platt on the ITV soap between 2015 and 2020.

After welcoming her baby boy into the world on January 30, Lucy spoke to OK! about her labour and the couple's decision on their tot's name.

The 27-year-old revealed her son is named Sonny Jude and explained that there is no particular meaning behind the name. The couple ended up choosing Sonny Jude because it was one of the few names they could both agree on.

“I kept adding names to a list. I liked a lot of names that Ryan didn’t. Some were a bit out there, like ‘Fox’”.

Ryan laughed as he said there was “no chance” his son would have a quirky name because, “He’d get ribbed non-stop! But as the pregnancy progressed, we were calling him Sonny”.

Lucy then revealed she was waiting a “long time” for Sonny as she had suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage last year due to a molar pregnancy, which is when the foetus doesn’t develop as it should.

“It’s been a roller-coaster of high and low moments, with lots of tears along the way. When Sonny was finally born, we were both sobbing, but happy tears”.

On January 29, the soap actress went to hospital for an induction. “I was having tiny contractions during the day. Ryan wasn’t allowed to stay after 9pm. At midnight, my waters broke, and then my contractions started getting quite painful”.

“Ryan came back to the hospital at 5.30am. By then, I was 3cm dilated and was moved to the delivery suite. I was on gas and air for ages but that didn’t work, I was being sick. It was horrible. I was making a lot of noise!”.

She continued, “At 10am, I had an epidural and was put on a hormone drip to make my contractions stronger. By 2pm, I was fully dilated, and I started pushing at 4pm”.

“I was pushing for an hour and a half but, between contractions, his head was going back in. The consultant said I had three options – ventouse (vacuum cup), forceps or Caesarean”.

“Having the ventouse is classed as an assisted birth, so we headed into surgery around 6pm, and he was born at 6.34pm, weighing 7lb 4oz. He had a bit of a cone head for a few days, but he’s fine now.”

When talking about recovering after having given birth, Lucy explained, “The few days after the birth were the hardest – you’re looking after a baby but you’re also in loads of pain.”

“It feels so long ago now. We can’t really remember life before Sonny. It feels like a blur”.

Frankie Essex has revealed she ‘wasn’t given the option of a natural birth’ when giving birth to her twins.

The former The Only Way is Essex star welcomed Logan and Luella into the world in May 2022 with her boyfriend Luke Love.

Now, Frankie has opened up to OK! about the birth of her twins and revealed she wasn’t given a birth plan and had to have a C-section.

The 35-year-old explained, “I wasn’t given a birth plan with the twins. About two or three weeks before they were born, they asked me what date I wanted… I was like, 'Oh? I get to choose the date the babies are born?'”.

“I wasn’t given the option of a natural birth because Luella was breached and there was a chance of her turning, but she was twin two. I was stressed but for her safety I just agreed to having a C-section”.

The former reality TV star revealed there was a chance of having Logan vaginally and then having Luella via C-section, but added that it ‘wasn’t a great option’.

“If twin one’s head is down you can give birth naturally and hope for the best, but there’s always concern for the second twin. There’s the option to try giving birth naturally and then going in for a C-section, but then you’re sore in both areas, which isn’t great”.

Frankie also opened up about her baby brain at the moment and how it’s ‘getting on her nerves’ the worse it gets.

“My baby brain is so bad…My memory’s gotten worse in the past month. It was bad before, but now it’s really bad. I keep forgetting little annoying things. I get on my own nerves. It’s mad!”.

After welcoming her twins into the world, Essex sweetly said, “We are so lucky to be your mummy and daddy thank you for showing us love like no other you both have made this world a better place”.
