It’s Sandra Bullock’s birthday!

The much-beloved actress is turning 59 today.

One of Sandra’s best-known films is the romantic comedy The Proposal, and to mark her birthday, her co-star Ryan Reynolds has shared a hilarious throwback!

Ryan, who is best known for playing Sandra’s love interest Andrew in the hit 2009 movie, took to Instagram earlier today to express his birthday wishes to Sandra.

The 46-year-old actor chose to re-share one of the most hilarious scenes in The Proposal, during which Ryan's character Andrew and his boss Margaret accidentally collide into one another while they are both naked.

“Happy Birthday to the inimitable and stunning Sandra Bullock!” Ryan gushed at the beginning of his caption, before going on to tease his co-star.

“For your birthday this year, I got us both intimacy coordinators. And an HR department. And clothing?” he joked.

Many of The Proposal’s diehard fans have since taken to Ryan’s comments section to express their delight at his acknowledgement of the beloved film.

“This movie never gets old,” one fan praised.

“This scene was so outstanding… Legendary,” another wrote.

“The smack sound of you guys just slapping together kills me every time,” a third fan exclaimed.

The Proposal first launched onto our screens 14 years ago, back in July 2009. In short, the hilarious flick follows Margaret, an intimidating New York book editor who is suddenly faced with deportation back to Canada when her visa expires.

In a last-ditch attempt to save her livelihood, Margaret claims that she is in love with her fed-up assistant Andrew, and that they are engaged to be married.

Despite Andrew’s resistances, the pair agree to tie the knot once they visit Andrew’ family home in Alaska. However, when Andrew and Margaret are forced to learn more about each other, they quickly realise that first impressions are not always accurate.

The Proposal is available to stream on Disney+, making it the perfect way to celebrate Sandra Bullock’s birthday today!

Casey O’Gorman has revealed the truth about a friendship with a fellow Islander!

The former Love Island star found fame during this year’s winter series, but he also found bromances with fellow cast members Tom Clare and Will Young.

Since leaving the South African villa, Tom and Casey have remained incredibly close, embarking on holidays together and even choosing to move in together.

However, the so-called ‘three amigos’ of Tom, Will and Casey have yet to be reunited in full since the Love Island reunion.

Now, Casey has gone on to confirm that both he and Tom barely speak to Will.

In an interview with the Goss Island podcast, the 26-year-old was asked about his friendship with the two boys.

“We’ve got a group chat – me, Tom and Will. Because we were, you saw it on TV, I was constantly with those boys,” he began.

“We built up such a strong relationship in there. So I just assumed that we’d keep up that strong relationship outside the villa, but that really hasn’t been the case,” Casey confessed.

The reality star then went on to explain how the bond that he had with Will has changed since the show ended.

“Me and Tom are still as close, we live together now. But I feel like Will has distanced himself from us. And look, that’s not to say that he doesn’t like us or anything like that,” he clarified.

Credit: Love Island Instagram

Casey concluded by noting that Will has been busy travelling with his girlfriend, fellow cast member Jessie Wynter.

“I just think that he’s so busy with Jessie, he’s been in Australia, he’s been in America. I think he’s literally been travelling for like the last three months so I completely understand he’s a busy boy. But it would be nice to meet up with him and speak some more to him, but I just haven’t got around to doing that – or nor has Tom,” he stated.

Dani Dyer has got her eyes on the future!

The former Love Island winner recently gave birth to identical twin girls alongside her boyfriend, footballer Jarrod Bowen. Daughters Summer and Star are the first children that the couple have welcomed together, as Dani was already a mum to two-year-old son Santiago.

Now, the reality star has been hinting that she would like to see a proposal from Jarrod in the future!

Earlier today, the 26-year-old took to Instagram to ask her followers to submit questions for a Q&A.

In amongst the questions, one of Dani’s 3.7M fans teased: “Waiting for Jarrod to pop the question,” alongside an engagement ring emoji.

In response, Dani chose to allude to her fellow Love Island alumni Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, who got engaged on Sunday following a lavish proposal in Ibiza.

“I mean after Tommy Fury’s proposal how can anyone ever top that??” Dani exclaimed in her reply.

In her Q&A, Dani was also asked how she has been recovering after giving birth to her twin daughters via C-section.

“My recovery went really well! I spent first few days in hospital with the girls and for the first few weeks I just made sure I took it a lot easier…” she explained.

“But I feel pretty much back to normal now 2 months on,” the mum-of-three added.

Dani and Jarrod officially confirmed their relationship in November 2021, and later announced their pregnancy in January of this year.

It seems as though Jarrod already has the approval for marriage from Dani’s family, as her father, former EastEnders actor Danny Dyer, recently praised his daughter’s partner.

In an interview on Good Morning Britain last month, the 46-year-old described Jarrod as “my future son in law, who I love more than life itself.”

Introducing Clarins Cryo Mask, the 2023 innovation that delivers firming, lifting and tightening effects in just ten minutes. What sets it apart is its inspiration from the healing properties of cryotherapy, making it Clarins inaugural product of its kind. It combines science and plants to target and fight the signs of ageing.

The face mask is a creamy formulation, making application effortless. After applying it to clean skin, you leave it on and then gently remove it with a tissue. Surprisingly, the cooling sensation is far more intense than anticipated, particularly when exposed to air while wearing it – the sensation intensifies. This mask specifically targets signs of ageing, promoting a radiant glow in the skin. Intrigued by the unique effects, we delved into cryotherapy research to understand how the Clarins Cryo-Starter technology distinguishes itself from existing methods.

Traditional Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy, also referred to as cold therapy, involves the application of low temperatures in medical treatment. It has a long-standing history of over 100 years and is utilised for treating various skin conditions. By subjecting diseased areas of the skin to freezing temperatures, cryotherapy effectively freezes and eliminates the affected tissue.

Clarins Cryo-Starter Technology

This cutting-edge innovation originates from the powerful synergy of science and plants, a cryo-molecule called M.G.A. and a “cryo-like” extract of evening primrose (organic plant).

By reducing the skin temperature by 4°C, the process encourages skin renewal. The cooling effect triggers a spontaneous calcium flash, delivering a surge of calcium to the core of each keratinocyte cell. This mechanism revitalises the epidermis, promoting renewal from within.

The dense, smooth cream is blue-green in colour and glides over the skin like an ice cube, to give an intense ‘cryo-effect’. Its ultra-cooling sensation is incredibly relaxing and comforting too.

Is it for you?

If you find yourself constantly fixating on fine lines and wrinkles in the mirror and you're looking for immediate results, Clarins Cryo Mask offers that, with the visual improvement of smoother skin and a feeling that everything is firmer and tighter.

What does Clarins claim it will do?

Clarins Cryo Mask is a high-performance cryo mask. that has an immediate and lasting effect on the signs of ageing. It has been tested by women to demonstrate:

  • The skin’s youthfulness appears preserved.
  • Skin is toned and plumped.
  • Skin is protected from free radicals.
  • The skin barrier is reinforced to protect skin from dehydration.
  • Skin’s radiance is revived.

Does it work?

Absolutely – it's all that is promised and more.  In just 10 minutes, we experienced the transformative effects firsthand as it effortlessly diminishes fine lines by accelerating collagen synthesis, leaving you with an overall enhanced complexion. When compared to our before and after photos (we’re too embarrassed to share them!) but the skin appears visibly brighter, with a reduction in redness and puffiness.  The cold diffused across the skin to give an instant tightening effect making the skin feel tighter. Our pores were tighter too.

How does Clarins make it work?

Utilising their innovative Cryo Starter technology, Clarins incorporates a dual-action molecule with the following components:

  1. Thermal activation derived from mint extracts, providing anti-ageing preventive properties and delivering an immediate cryo-tightening effect.
  2. Biological activation sourced from evening primrose extract, stimulating an elevated calcium level within the skin and enhancing collagen synthesis.

How to use

Evenly apply a generous layer to your entire clean and dry face, excluding the eye area. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes, then gently eliminate any remaining residue using cotton pads or toner-soaked gloves. For an enhanced refreshing sensation, refrigerate the product before use. To optimise the application, Clarins has developed a massage method that should be carried out as follows:

  • You can make smoothing motions using the base of your palms, taking care not to stretch the skin under the chin, following the facial oval up to the earlobes.
  • Continue these motions from the corners of the mouth towards the middle of the ears, from the base of the nose towards the temples and from the middle of the forehead, outwards.

What's the product like?

The mask has a creamy consistency – when you open the jar, you'll see a creamy and whipped texture with a blue-green hue. As soon as you apply it, you can feel the refreshing and cooling sensation on your skin (it's the same kind of feeling you get after using mouthwash – invigorating, cool and clean). It has a subtle floral menthol fragrance (the core technology harnesses Cryo molecules derived from mint).

Values & Sustainability

As we have come to expect from Clarins ‘Responsible Beauty’ standards, the product has been created to innovate for women’s beauty but with the planet and preservation of nature in mind.

The glass jar used for packaging is recyclable and crafted from 40% recycled glass materials. The organic Evening Primrose Extract is sourced organically from France. Furthermore, the product is composed of over 93% natural origin ingredients.

Do we recommend it?

Clarins carried out a great deal of research prior to launch and the results are impressive:

  • 87% of women observed the cryo-lift effect of the mask immediately
  • 88% of women said their pores were less visible and 90% of women said their skin was tighter and seemed lifted after just 14 days use
  • 93% of women said their skin appeared younger-looking after 28 days of use.

Often when beauty brands launch a new product it doesn’t quite deliver on the efficacy that it promises but with this launch by Clarins, the new Cryo-Flash Cream-Mask lives up to expectations and delivers on promised claims too.

This product is deserving of a 5 out of 5 and we highly recommend that you try it, so you too can experience the transformative effects firsthand.

This Barbie has a kind soul!

The main star of the new Barbie movie, Margot Robbie, has revealed a heartwarming gesture that she recently gifted to her mother.

Margot, who first found fame on Australian soap Neighbours and has since become one of Hollywood's most high-ranked actors, has been opening up about her path to success.

In a recent interview with CBS' Sunday Morning, the 33-year-old explained how her mother, Sarie Kessler, supported her through the early stages of her acting career, and that she eventually wanted to thank her by paying her back.

“Everything I owed my mom, I had it written down. She'd take money out of the, like, house mortgage [to] lend me money,” Margot admitted as she recalled her mother’s kind gestures.

“So I always knew, I was like, ‘I gotta pay that back.’ And then one day, when I made enough money, I just paid that whole mortgage off completely,” she revealed sweetly.

The Wolf Of Wall Street actress then went on to note that she had always planned to repay her mum, if she was fortunate enough to be able to.

“Honestly, anyone in my position, you'd do that for your mom. Of course you would,” Margot stated.

Margot’s revelation has come after recent confirmation that her new movie, Barbie, is currently the number one film in the world.

Your wedding day is something you have been planning and talking about for months, if not longer, so it’s also completely natural to feel anxious or nervous on the morning. You might be putting a lot of pressure on yourself to make sure you pull off the perfect wedding.

This is absolutely normal and something that many brides and grooms experience. Fiona McNamara, owner of the FMN Bridal Studio in Limerick has a particular expertise in creating an atmosphere of calm serenity for her bridal parties. She has put together her top tips for those hours before the dress goes on and the ceremony begins.

Fiona McNamara, owner of the FMN Bridal Studio in Limerick

Plan It Out:

Create a list of the elements you want to fit in that that morning, then make a schedule, allowing for plenty of contingency time so you won’t feel stressed if certain activities run over time. Time your hair and makeup trials when you do them, so you know how long they'll take.

Be Rested:

It will be tempting to party the night before but you may not feel your best in the morning, and any wedding anxiety will be much worse if you’re fatigued. Have a bath, fresh sheets and a calming playlist to help you nod off.

Eat Something:

Look after your body and your mind will follow. Arrange a tasty, nutritious breakfast Ask a bridesmaid to keep some little snacks on hand until the meal is served, as nerves can make you feel jittery.

Big Picture Thinking:

Remember what is really important. Things may go wrong with weather or the seating, but as long as both you and your partner are there and you love each other – that’s all that matters.

Sit Down with your Party:

Don’t get ready alone, surround yourself with those you love and create an experience. Gather together, relax and chat over a coffee and some pastries – or champagne. Discuss what you’re most looking forward to and enjoy some good memories and laughter.

Take a Me Moment:

A very simple practice like deep breathing increases the supply of oxygen to your brain, encouraging relaxation and reducing anxiety. In the run up to the wedding find a mindfulness or meditation practice (there are lots of great apps!) that you enjoy, repeat this regularly and ensure you assign time to complete it on the morning of the wedding. If you are someone who feels better after going for a run, don't skip this activity on your wedding day. Even if you aren't up for a full workout, go for a brief walk or do a gentle yoga flow. Movement helps the body release endorphins.

Appoint A Spokesperson:

You are going to have a lot of people who want to ask you questions on the day. Having a wedding planner or a day-of coordinator is a great investment but the alternative is to ask some of your trusted circle to field queries from suppliers. You can communicate what you want, but physically handing over some tasks will feel like a weight has been removed.

Indulge Your Senses:

Create a gorgeous atmosphere in the hotel room or house when getting ready. Choose a playlist of songs that make you happy, avoid anything that will make you cry. Have your favourite scent as a room diffuser or candle, and as you’re getting ready, a lovely aroma will fill the space. After the big day, that scent will always take you back to that morning.

Fertility issues can be emotionally and financially challenging for couples aspiring to start a family. In an encouraging move, Ireland is set to launch a publicly funded fertility treatment scheme in September, providing much-needed support to eligible women seeking assistance. This groundbreaking initiative comes as a welcome first step towards making fertility treatment accessible to those in need, aiming to ease the financial burden and offer hope to countless couples struggling with infertility.  Here is what we know so far:

The Scheme's Inception

Beginning in September, the HSE will implement the fertility treatment scheme through a strategic combination of six regional fertility hubs and outsourcing to private clinics. With a budget of €10 million allocated to the program, several thousand women are expected to benefit from the publicly funded treatments, ensuring that more couples have a chance at parenthood without enduring crippling financial burdens.

Enrolment Process:

To initiate the enrolment process, prospective candidates must visit their GP, who will conduct preliminary tests and assessments. Following this, the GP can refer the woman to one of the HSE's regional fertility hubs. These specialised centres offer a wide array of investigations and interventions, including vital blood tests, semen analysis, fertility-related surgeries, and medical management of fertility challenges like ovulation induction with follicle tracking. It is important to note that demand is high, with the fertility hubs already receiving around 150 new referrals monthly.

Available Treatments:

Under this progressive scheme, eligible women can avail themselves of up to three cycles of intrauterine insemination (IUI). Additionally, they have the option of one cycle of either in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) at an HSE-approved private clinic of their choice. This comprehensive range of treatments aims to cater to diverse fertility needs and increase the chances of successful conception.

Eligibility Criteria:

The fertility scheme opens new avenues for couples longing to experience parenthood. While marriage is not a requirement, couples must be in a relationship for at least one year to be eligible for the publicly funded treatments. However, same-sex couples are currently not eligible, as certain treatments, such as donated eggs or sperm, are not yet available under the scheme. Legislation addressing this concern, the Health (Assisted Human Production Bill), is expected to be passed in the near future, granting equal access to all.

Age and Weight Restrictions:

Age and weight restrictions are integral aspects of the fertility treatment scheme. To be eligible for treatment, the intending birth mother must be under 41 years old and have a referral before reaching this age. Additionally, her partner's age should not exceed 60 years. Weight limits are also in place, with the birth mother's BMI required to fall within the range of 18.5kg/m2 to 30kg/m2.

Expert Perspectives:

Despite the scheme's commendable efforts to aid couples in need, fertility experts have expressed certain reservations with many emphasising that the BMI limit of 30 may exclude numerous women, particularly older ones, for whom higher BMI is not uncommon thus highlighting the need for a more flexible approach.

Ireland's publicly funded fertility treatment scheme marks a significant step forward in addressing infertility-related challenges faced by countless couples. While it holds immense promise for many, some limitations, such as age and weight restrictions, as well as the exclusion of same-sex couples, remain areas for consideration and improvement. However, this landmark initiative sets a precedent for future advancements in the field of fertility treatment, fostering hope and happiness for aspiring parents throughout the country. With expert opinions and public feedback shaping its evolution, the scheme has the potential to make a profound difference in the lives of those yearning to embrace the joys of parenthood.

Members of S Club 7 have been opening up about Paul Cattermole’s unexpected passing.

The 46-year-old was suddenly found dead at his home in April of this year, just a few weeks after the 90s band announced that they would be embarking on a reunion tour.

In the days following Paul’s death, Dorset Police confirmed that the star had died from natural causes. Now, almost four months on from their tragic loss, a few of Paul’s fellow S Club stars have opened up about the moment they knew something was wrong with him.

Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara, Bradley McIntosh, Jon Lee and Tina Barrett recently spoke to The Sun, with Jon revealing that he called Paul several times, not knowing that his friend had already passed away.

"We’d done a Zoom call with him, all of us, on the Monday. Then our management had messaged him a few times and it hadn’t shown that it’d been read on WhatsApp," the 41-year-old explained. "So it was like, ‘Is he all right?’ But then it was like, ‘Yeah it’s Paul. You know, sometimes he doesn’t answer his phone’."

Jon then went on to explain that "everyone was trying to get hold of [Paul]," but that no one was getting through.

Speaking about the moment she was told of Paul’s passing, Jo recalled it as being "like someone had punched me in the stomach," whilst Tina added: "At first I was just like, ‘This isn’t real . . . it can’t be real. You’ve made a mistake’."

The band’s revelations come on the same day that they have released a new song, titled These Are The Days, in tribute to Paul.

Following Paul’s death, the Reach hitmakers also announced that they would be continuing with their plans to perform later this year, with their tour being renamed ‘The Good Times Tour’ in honour of the late star.

The tour will be progressing without S Club member Hannah Spearritt, as she comes to terms with the huge loss of her bandmate and former boyfriend.

As bookworms, nothing delights us more than when our favourite stories get adapted to either the big or small screen. It’s always so exciting to see how the story will translate on screen, and it’s also a fun opportunity to find out if the casting of your favourite characters will match the image you have had in your head while reading.

There have been some brilliant book-to-screen adaptations in recent years (Normal People, Harry Potter, Pride & Prejudice, to name a few), and thankfully, they just keep coming!

To celebrate the wonderful harmony of novels, TV and film, we have curated a list of some upcoming adaptations that we are most looking forward to. There is a whole mixture of genres in this list, as well as a great balance of TV series and movies, so we’re certain there is something for everyone to enjoy:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

This bestselling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid breathed new life with TikTok’s ‘BookTok’ audience, and now it is getting its own adaptation! Netflix have bought the rights to turn The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo into a film, and it was recently confirmed that Leslye Headland will be directing the movie, and Liz Tigelaar has written a script. In short, the novel spans the life of Hollywood actress Evelyn Hugo, as she opens up to journalist Monique and reveals shocking secrets that have never before made it to the public eye. We still have no details on casting for this one, but we’re already excited for it!

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Based on true events, The Tattooist of Auschwitz found adoration with millions of readers after its release in 2018, and now, it will soon be coming to our screens. Heather Morris’ novel has been made into a six-part TV series with Sky, and the great news is that the show has already been filmed! The series stars The Little Mermaid’s Jonah Hauer-King as Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew who is imprisoned at Auschwitz-Birkenau during the Second World War and is forced to tattoo ID numbers onto the arms of prisoners. There, he falls in love with a young woman named Gita (Anna Próchniak), and the pair try to keep their romance alive as their lives are constantly threatened. The series is set for release next year, and we’re sure it will be an emotional watch!

It Ends With Us

This gripping novel from Colleen Hoover has exploded in popularity in recent years, and is still staying strong in book charts worldwide… so it’s no wonder that we will soon have a screen adaptation of it! Unfortunately, filming of It Ends With Us is currently on pause due to the actors’ strike in the United States, but we still have a lot of information to obsess over. Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively has been cast as Lily Bloom, a young woman who is eager for a fresh start when she falls in love with a doctor named Ryle (Justin Baldoni). However, their romance runs far from smooth as Lily soon reconnects with her teenage love, Atlas (Brandon Sklenar), and also discovers more about Ryle’s mysterious past. Hopefully it won’t be long before this film arrives on our screens!

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

It has been eight years since the final movie in The Hunger Games series premiered to the world, and now it’s coming back with its long-awaited prequel! Author Suzanne Collins released The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in May 2020, and the rights to a film adaptation were quickly snapped up. The movie stars Tom Blyth as 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who, years before becoming president of Panem, was also a mentor for tributes in the 10th Hunger Games. Snow is put in charge of mentoring District 12’s female tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (played by Rachel Zegler), but things soon take a dangerous turn when he develops feelings for her. A trailer has already been released for this one, and it is set to hit cinemas on November 17. Welcome back to the Games!

Romancing Mr Bridgerton

Credit: Netflix

The Bridgerton novels have been a massive success with both readers and viewers alike, and so we’re delighted that the adaptations are continuing! The third season of the hit Netflix show is due to follow the fourth book in the franchise, Romancing Mr Bridgerton. Known as Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington’s story, the plot will follow the pair as their will-they-won’t-they frustrations finally come to a head. Will Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) finally get the happily ever after she’s been dreaming of, or will Colin friendzone her forever? The launch date for Bridgerton season 3 is believed to be in December, and although we have yet to receive a trailer, Netflix have already treated us to a few stills from the season – it certainly looks amazing!

All The Light We Cannot See

Almost 10 years after it first hit our shelves, this award-winning novel is finally getting a screen adaptation! Netflix has created a four-episode long miniseries of All The Light We Cannot See, from acclaimed novelist Anthony Doerr. Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy is behind the adaptation, which sees Marie-Laure, a blind French girl, struggling to find her missing father (Mark Ruffalo) in the depths of the Second World War. On her journey, Marie-Laure forms an unlikely friendship with a young Nazi soldier (Louis Hofmann) who has a skill for intercepting illegal radio broadcasts. Netflix have already shared an official trailer for the series, with a release date confirmed for November 2.

Shelter

For the past few years now, crime writer Harlan Coben has had some of his most thrilling novels turned into gripping screen adaptations. In the past, the author has struck up deals with Netflix to produce the likes of The Stranger and Stay Close, featuring stars such as Richard Armitage and Siobhan Finneran. Now, it’s Prime Video’s turn to adapt Coben’s first-ever young adult novel, Shelter. In short, the story follows teenager Mickey Bolitar (Jaden Michael), who is trying to cope with all of the changes in his life – his mother in rehab, his dead father, his annoying aunt, and his new school in New Jersey. However, when a mysterious old woman tells him that his father is still alive, Mickey begins to doubt everything he knows. Shelter debuts next month on August 18, and we can’t wait to watch it!
