Whether you reply to hundreds of emails a day, or are just looking for the perfect ending to a job email application, some of us always go back to the the usuals of 'Kind regards' or 'Best'.

But a new study has found which sign-off is more likely to get a reply, and which ones simple go in the 'Delete' pile.

Image result for signing off an email

Boomerang conducted the study, which looked at 350,000 emails in various business fields to work out which sign off comes out on top.

And the winner? 'Thanks in advance'.

Emails that ended in some form of thanks honed in on the top spots, with endings like 'Best' coming in last.

The data scientist of the study Brendan Greenly said: "Among closings seen at least 1,000 times in our study, "thanks in advance" ended up correlating with the highest response rate, which makes sense, as the email's recipient is being thanked specifically for a response which has yet to be written.

"There's a bit of posturing involved with this closing, but it turns out it works pretty well."

There you go. So, whether it's just another work email, a job application or an email business proposal, remember to say thanks!

God, we sound like our mothers…

Katie Taylor has won her third boxing fight in a row, after taking out Monica Gentili in London last night.

The Bray native came out swinging and set the pace for most of the fight, swinging mainly head and abdomen shots towards Monica.

In the third round, Katie stepped it up a notch, coming at Monica with major aggression. The Italian fighter stood her own, but it was clear that Katie was a rank above the rest.

It then all came down to the fifth and final round, when Katie unleashed a fierce combination of knocks that sealed her victory.

It'll only be three weeks until we see the Dub fight again, as she's taking to the ring in Manchester.

Congrats, Katie!

Fans of Ed Sheeran were delighted to see his nanny yesterday, who appeared on RTÉ's Today.

Nancy, who lives in Co. Wexford, was interviewed after Ed released a song about her, Nancy Mulligan, during the week.

RTÉ viewers looked in wonder as she told stories about Ed's childhood and how he hasn't let fame go to his head, staying much the same as he was as a teenager.

Nancy also got to listen to Ed's new track, and was very modest in her reaction to a song being written about her.

Nancy, you were a delight.

DJ Steve Aoki has defended Louis Tomlinson after he was arrested for attacking a photographer yesterday.

Louis was put in handcuffs in LAX Airport after an altercation with two members of the paparazzi.

Steve stood up for his friend, and wrote on Twitter: “Wish the paparazzi respected personal space. U can still do your job without having to put your camera literally in someone’s face.”

His tweet was retweeted more than 37,000 times, with fans praising him for sticking up for Louis.

This comes after footage of the incident was leaked to Radar Online, and shows the One Direction star fighting with a pap, and then running over to defend his girlfriend, who was being attacked at the other side of the room.

You can watch the video here.

Louis has been released from police custody, but we're sure this will not be the end to this story.

According to reports, Keith Duffy had to end a family night out in violence after he was attacked by six men last weekend.

The Irish Mail on Sunday reports that Keith was out with his wife, Lisa, and his son, Jay, at celebrity hot spot Lillie's Bordello, when the incident happened.

The family were out celebrating after attending the premiere of their son Jay’s film Handsome Devil at the Audi Dublin Film Festival.

Insiders claim that the six men started harassing Lisa in the VIP spot of the nightclub, and when Keith stepped in, they surrounded him and started to become aggressive.

"Six guys surrounded him in the club after Lisa came looking for him [after going to find security]," said the source.

"She was upset by the behaviour of these guys. He got a few digs – there were a few of them. There was six on one.

"They just set on Keith, there was no reason for it, it was unprovoked," they added.

It is understood that Gardaí arrived a short time later but by then Keith had left to go home, therefore he did not provide a statement.

Have you ever wondered about what your hairstyle actually says about you?

Woman in White Adidas Crew Neck T-shirt Moving Her Hair

Well, according to a new study published in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, your hair actually matches your name.

Confused? We were too, at first.

The research found that people can match names to their faces, and participants in the study were also able to correctly guess names based solely on hairstyles.

“In one study, our participants picked the depicted person’s correct name by only looking at their hairstyle when the face itself was blurry,” the lead author of the study, Yonat Zwebner, told Allure last week.

He continued, saying: “Hairstyle is presumably one of the most controlled features in people’s faces. So it is possible that we choose a hairstyle that fits the stereotype of our name.”

The theory all boils down to stereotypes, and how we view them.

"Expectations are many times based on stereotypes. We already know from previous research that names have stereotypes. "

Person With Braided Hair

"Therefore, like other stereotypes, one may indeed become more and more like his/her name expectations, including appearance. This is strongly supported by the fact that our participants chose names according to hairstyle alone."

White and Blue Hair Curlier

We cannot help but wonder if this is why celebrities style their hair in certain ways (like when Britney Spears shaved her head in 2007).

"It suggests that people embrace a certain hairstyle, and probably more facial features that fit the expectations of how they should look according to their names.”

What do you think, ladies? Do you think your hairstyle reflects your name, or is this science mumbo-jumbo?

We're not entirely convinced.

We love wine, and we love coffee, so when we heard that there was a new product on the market that incorporates the two, we got more than a bit excited.

Wine-infused coffee is officially a thing, but before you lose the run of yourself entirely, we have a bit of bad news.

The wine/coffee hybrid doesn't actually get you drunk, but instead infuses the two rich flavours for an experience for the taste buds, rather than the liver.

The coffee beans, made by Molinari Private Reserve, are drenched in wine before being dried and bagged to create the distinct flavour.

"This full-bodied coffee relaxes in a beautiful wine, absorbing the wine’s nose and history, then the coffee is carefully dried and hand-roasted in small batches," reads the website.

The coffee is currently only available online, for a pretty reasonable €20.00, so we may have to pick up a bag (or three).

Our inner coffee snob is drooling.

Every so often, we just need a good gawk at makeup looks that we would never even dream of wearing.

Enter: neon makeup, the look that seems to be all over the Internet at the moment.

Listen, we will be the first to tell you that this is not exactly your everyday beauty look, but it is pretty darn cool to look at.

This trend has only recently started circulating amongst the beauty gurus on Instagram and YouTube, with Kristen Leanne posting a "how-to" video in February.

If you are interested in rocking this glowing makeup on your next night out, it is important to note that the technique is not at difficult as you'd think.

According to Bustle, you "Simply sketch out your eyeliner (or lip) shape with a neon shadow and a pointed liner brush. Then, buff out the edges of the vivid colour with a dense but fluffy brush to create a hazy, glowing effect."

Sounds relatively simple, right?

We reckon we'll leave this one to the professionals, and stick to a classic cat eye.

If you've been on Instagram lately, one trend that keeps popping up is ruffled, well, everything.

Ruffles are everywhere for spring, on absolutely every runway, and the high street has taken note.

Ruffles may seem like a tricky or unflattering trend, but it's actually really easy to pull off.

Blue blouse €44.99, White blouse €44.99, Grey jumper €14.99

The delightful thing about the trend is that you can go as out-there or subtle as you'd like with the look, depending on how fond of a good frill you are.

This blue H&M blouse is a dramatic way to do the trend, and would look equally good with a PVC skirt and fishnet tights as it would with dark jeans and loafers.

This white shirt is ideal for incorporating the look into your office ensembles, and this grey jumper is one way to rock soft, subtle and casual frills.

Dress €18.00, Jeans €17.00, Pink dress €16.00

Dresses are another easy way to work frills, as all you have to do is throw it on and go, no styling necessary.

These Penneys dresses are perfect with heels for a night out, or casual denim lovers can incorporate ruffles onto the hems of their jeans.

The frilled jeans look cute AF with a band T-shirt and converse, or with high mules and a slinky shirt.

Jumper €10.00, Top €11.99, Dress €19.99

And for the casual frill-seeker, these pieces from New Look are the comfy, simple way to rock ruffles.

This jumper is just the updated, spring version of your current staple knit, while this blue top is a chuck-on-and-go piece if we ever saw one.

This black dress for teens does subtle frills on the sleeves, so minimalists can get the look without the fuss.

We're obsessed with ruffles this season, and keeping the look chic is easier than we thought.
