The provision of mental health services in this country has been at the forefront of conversation of late, and one woman's personal experience really hit home with us today.

Michelle Ross got in touch to share her own experience of the mental health services, which sadly does not have a happy ending.

The Meath native lost her younger brother Derek to suicide last year, on September 15, 2015. He had turned 24 just over three weeks beforehand.

Michelle's story – which appears in full on her blog – starts early on that tragic morning.

"I woke up in the Galway Bay Hotel at 7.45am and switched my alarm off. Sounds nice doesn’t it?" she writes.

"My phone rang a couple of moments later and my life was changed forever. My aunt's name flashed up on my phone.

"'Michelle are you with anybody?’ my aunt said.

"‘No I’m down in Galway, is my mam okay?’ I said.

"‘Your mam's fine… Oh, Michelle…’

"‘What Anne, what's wrong??’

"‘It’s Derek, Michelle, he’s hanged himself.’

"‘Is he ok, is he still alive?’

"‘No sweetheart, I’m so sorry, he’s gone honey."

After hearing news of her brother's death, Michelle says she just fell apart.

"My whole heart shattered into pieces. I remember nothing more that was said after that, I crumbled to the floor, shaking like a leaf and howled.

"How I didn’t wake the whole hotel, I do not know, I literally lay in a ball on the floor howling. I wouldn’t even call it crying because there were no tears. I was just screaming.

"The rest of that day is a blur, but it’s a morning that will never ever leave me, and something that replays in my mind over and over and over many times a week.

"On that day, my baby brother Derek decided he couldn’t take anymore of this life, and made the decision to end things."

Derek had suffered with depression and drug addiction for quite some time, and had previously attempted to take his own life in April 2015.

Michelle describes the difficulty her family faced in getting the medical help that they believed Derek needed after his first suicide attempt. After being seen by a doctor and visiting A&E, Derek was seen by a psychiatric specialist.

"He was finally called in…  and was in and out quicker than I had time to get a coffee," she recalls.

"There was ‘nothing wrong with him’ they said. They couldn’t help him there. He was referred to his local GP/psychiatric care with a referral letter in his hands.

"I was in shock. My whole family were in shock. He was sent away, after making an attempt to take his own life, with a letter in his hand."

Eventually Derek was given an appointment with a psychiatric unit for two months time, which Michelle says was devastating for the whole family.

"We tried and tried to get professional help for Derek at that time but all we ended up getting any sort of help from was counsellors. That’s all that was available.

"We didn’t know where to turn to as a family, all we could do was encourage Derek to go for counselling which is what we did. He went for a one session and that was it.

"Our professionals sent him home and told us all there was nothing wrong with him… really? Well, then why is he six feet under now? Derek could have been saved with the right professional help and I firmly believe this."

Michelle is keen to emphasise that the lack of provisions available for Derek not only affected his life, but hers and those of her family members too.

"Let me tell you what it's like being one of many people left behind, affected and totally devastated by my brother taking his own life.

"I cry, a lot. Mostly when I am alone. My own mind is now probably my worst enemy.

"Like last night, I lay in bed trying so hard to get some sleep, but my mind was playing out the moment Derek took his own life. It was as if I was there with him at the time and I was replaying a memory, I could see him gasping for his last breath. I just want it to STOP sometimes.

"My heart is broken. My heart is broken not only for me, but for my family too.

"My Mam and Dad. How can parents bury their own child? How are they coping?

My brother Robert. He worries about everybody and always wants to be sure that we are all okay, even though his heart has been ripped out.

"He adored Derek and did everything he could to protect him. He is a broken man now but still makes sure everybody else is okay before himself.

"They are just some of the things that go through my head. Some of the pain I feel, and some of the sorrow that I carry around with me most days."

"For you Dez. I love and miss you every second. Thank you for the strength you give me, for the good days, and keep looking over us all. I feel you with me sometimes. Rest in Paradise my love."

Michelle and her family are currently fundraising for the Irish non-profit organisation Pieta House, which offers a specialised treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harming behaviours.

You can donate via Michelle's personal fundraising page here, or get involved by signing up for the Darkness Into Light Run in one of the many locations around Ireland on May 7, 2016.

She may be all loved up right now, but actress Lindsay Lohan is claiming that she turned Harry Styles away when he turned up at her hotel room because she "didn't recognise him."

Er, for real Linds?

The 29-year-old admitted to the encounter in the Bizarre column of the Sun, claiming that she rejected the star a few years ago when he turned up at 2am at her door.

"I said, 'Well, you’re very good-looking — can I help you?' " said the actress.

"That was it. I was like, 'I’m going to bed but it was nice to meet you.'

"It was 2am, I had just come back from an AA meeting. I looked like sh*t too."

According to the Daily Mail, Harry reportedly said after the incident that his pals had tricked him into knocking on Lindsay's door after leading him to believe there was an after-party being held there.

The actress admitted that it was still awkward when the pair bumped into each other and that her younger sister Ali was fuming at the time when she heard her big sis had turned down an op to hang out with the curly-haired heartthrob.

Meanwhile, Lindsay has recently found love with Russian real estate mogul, Egor Tarabasov and has been sharing loved up snaps of the 22-year-old to her Instagram.

Eh so not only is Zac Efron a stunning example of the male specimen, he also seems to be a really nice guy.

Because of course he is!

The actor jumped through hoops to make sure superfan Ahmed got a new phone after he had smashed his own trying to get a selfie with the star.

And if you think he bought the fan any old phone, you would of course be wrong.

I can't fathom how things can happen way to perfectly in line sometimes. I never imagine one day that I had meet Zac Efron. Growing up watching his movies as teenager, to become a man. There's one thing being a celebrity and maintain a humble state of mind. Zac is definitely one the most humble celebrity I have ever encounter as well as the rock. Today while running after his car after he was taking break from shooting his new movie bay watch, I ran after his car with no care in the world, did not care wether the police stop me or not, my phone fell on the ground and shattered complelty. Zac said "Dude did you're phone just break? He allowed me to take a video with him, He allowed me to come on set to meet him properly. and also Bought me a brand new phone. Which was $949.99 retail. @zacefron thank you brother , keep giving the audience an extrodanary performances. Keep being humble thank you. Even if he wasn't going to get me a new phone it was all worth it. #zacefron

The 28-year-old reportedly shelled out a cool €865 for the new piece of kit and well everyone, especially Ahmed, is delighted by the situation.

"This is what I love about my fans," read the caption of a photo shared of the star and the very excited fan in question.

"When they get excited, but Dopekid_23 actually smashed his phone while chasing me for a Snapchat– that's dedication so I'ma hook you up with a new phone my brother!

"To all my fans out there holdin it down- love and respect. And be careful with your phones."

Meanwhile, Ahmed also took to Instagram to explain what happened and graciously thank the star.

"This man went out of his way to buy me a brand new phone and allowed me to even walk on set his new movie when you didn't have to.

"You acknowledge you're fans, Brother you have a heart, there is definitely a reason as to why you are who you are (sic).

"You don't understand how this meant so much to me bro. Last thing on my mind was for you get me a new phone because I ran after you're car. I knew the risks I was taking. Thank you once again I will never forgot this moment."

Can we get a universal n'awh!

Zac is currently filming for the upcoming Baywatch reboot.

Following her marathon press junket for Brooklyn and after slaying the red carpet at every turn this awards season, you would think Saoirse Ronan would be looking to take a little break.

But you would be totally wrong because Saoirse is all set to begin a 20-week run on Broadway proving that she is actually superhuman.

Saoirse is starring in an adaptation of classic play the Crucible and it seems that the show has been deemed a roaring success weeks before its official opening on 31 March.

According to the Irish Independent, the play raked up an impressive €500,000 for it's six preview shows in the last week.

The Crucible is a famous American play about the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692. Saoirse is slated to play Abigail Williams in the adaptaion, a teen who decides to use the town's drama to her own advantage.

Her co-stars include British actor Ben Whishaw and Irish actor Ciaran Hinds.

The play was due to begin on February 21 but the producers pushed back the date so the talented Carlow native could attend the Oscars at which she was up for a gong for her impressive turn in Brooklyn.

So does everything Saorise Ronan touch turn to gold?

If you are an avid follower of Selena Gomez on social media, you will know that the star spent the last two days in Paris for Fashion Week.

And you just know that when a global superstar and Fashion Week combine, you are gonna see lots and lots of fabulous clothes.

We made it Paris

A photo posted by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

But for Selena, she did a marathon number of costume changes sporting five completely different outfits in just 24 hours in the French capital.

And obviously she slayed in every single one:

1) Covetable comfy flight gear

How does she make a glorified tracksuit look so chic?

We are totally digging this comfy casual look on Selena, but according to MTV nabbing yourself this exact trackie would set back about €1200. Yikes!

2) Day-time attire

Fresh off her flight to Paris, Selena did a quick change into a denim skirt, thigh-highs and a blazer for an afternoon outing.

3) Night time sleek and chic

That night the Hands to Myself singer brought sexy back with a stunning floor-length slinky wrap number.

This is also the outfit in which she had her notorious stuck-in-a-Parisien-lift moment.

4) Cute casual brunch

The next day Sel headed off to the Louis Vuitton show donning the brand from head-to-snakeskin-toe.

5) Funky business class

The pop star then decided to slip into another Louis Vuitton outfit for the afternoon completing her marathon slew of costume changes.

A formal investigation has been launched after a baby was found smuggled onto an Air France plane in hand luggage yesterday.

According to the well-known French airline, a woman boarded the plane from Istanbul to Paris with the child concealed in a bag as the baby girl did not have a valid flight ticket.

Agence-France Presse has since added that the woman in question was actually in the process of the adopting the child from Haiti when the incident occurred.

She originally attempted to board a flight with the baby in tow and: "had crossed the customs checkpoint with the child, when she was prevented from boarding a flight with her," said a witness to the news agency.

The woman then reportedly attempted to hide the child by placing her at her feet covered in a blanket but was seen doing so by other passengers.

It was then that the woman attempted to board another flight by buying a ticket solely for herself and putting the child in her carry-on luggage.

People have been speculative at best over the alleged new romance blossoming between the newly-divorced Cheryl and One Direction's Liam Payne.

Many (including us) have speculated that the pair could actually be together for some sort of publicity stunt, but as the happy couple step out for another date night in London, we may have to hold our hands up and say we believe it.

The 32-year-old and her new toyboy were snapped grinning as they left Salmontini le Resto last night and Cheryl even donned a huge statement necklace that read: "Love."

A bit on the nose Chezza, but okay.

And to add even more authenticity to the pairing, the couple were joined by Liam's mammy who seems to have given the relationship her total seal of approval.

The outing comes just a day after Liam posted a pretty gushing message to Instagram about his new lady for International Women's Day.

Happy #internationalwomensday to my favourite woman in the world hope I make you as happy as u make me X

"Happy #Internationalwomensday to my favourite woman in the world hope I make you as happy as you make me X," read the caption of the pretty adorable snap of Cheryl.

The news of the unlikely couple broke just two weeks ago with the pair having gotten closer in the New Year.

Cheryl officially announced her divorce from French businessman Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in December after months of speculation that the marriage was not going well.

Justin Bieber's Love Yourself describes a pretty messed up relationship and the pop star certainly doesn't hold back when describing his ex.

Co-written by Ed Sheeran, the song paints a pretty horrendous picture of the anonymous girl in question and though the song's events could be totally true, it would be interesting to hear the perspective of the ex.

So that's why YouTubers Yo Preston! and Kelly Kiara decided to cover the song with two sides of the story totally covered.

Preston sings the first verse and chorus as Bieber sings it and then Kelly comes in with her own version of events that pretty much changes everything.

"Baby you can go and f*ck yourself," goes Kelly's new version of the song and we are loving it.

Bette Midler may have been struck with the wrath of an angry Kim Kardashian, but she has been responding to the drama in hilarious ways.

It all began when Kim decided to post a nude selfie to Instagram and then responded to celebs who went online to criticise her.

"Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we've never seen, she's gonna have to swallow the camera," read the tweet by Bette to which Kim took offence.

The 35-year-old reality star responded by jokingly asking Bette to send nudes before adding: "I really didn't want to bring up how how you sent me a gift awhile back trying to be a fake friend then come at me."

However, the 70-year-old could take it as she replied: "I never tried to fake friend you. Looks like anyone can take a selfie but not everyone can take a joke."

Yas, Bette!

Fans have been delighting in the sassy responses of the Beaches  actress and were only ecstatic to see that she had uploaded her own version of a naked selfie to Twitter today.

It may be totally photoshopped but the snap encourages people to put their naked selfies to work and donate to charity when posting one.

Now that is the way to handle a controversy.

Ah, remember the good old days when there was only one computer in the house and not only did it take aaaages to turn on, it also made that horrid (yet, funny) noise to hook up to the Internet?

Well, Fine Brothers Entertainment brought a bunch of teenagers in to try out the old Windows 95 and the results are… Well, the results are kinda hilarious.

Not only do they struggle turning the computer on, the also haven't a notion how to use it properly.

One good thing did come out of the little demo though – appreciation. Windows 95 was the beloved founder of the 'start' button, the recycle bin and Internet Explorer.

But as much as we love the oul' thing, we're so glad it's gone and we don't have to wait 30 full minutes just to get the Internet up.

Here we go! Another celeb has decided to show off her body in a nude selfie just like Kim Kardashian's.

We have to say, Kim's selfie sparked an uproar from both sides of the story and there's a vast mix of people for and against it.

And the latest celeb for it? Sharon Osbourne.

Showcasing her banging body at 63-years-old, Sharon captioned the pic: "@kimkardashian you inspired me! #liberated #the talk."

Mrs Osbourne's racy snap comes after Kim herself called for an end to 'slut-shaming' and says people need to get over her old sex tape once and for all.

We wonder who'll be next to join the nude selfie band wagon.
