wedding dress

Once upon a time weddings were expected to be loving, celebratory but traditional occasions.

But now thanks the progression of more alternative bridal movements, a couple’s big day can be tailored to reflect the personalities of those who are being honoured.

While sequined, coloured and even cropped bridal gowns are now relatively commonplace, there is one unique bridal trend that’s got everyone talking.

Introducing the dip-dyed wedding dress: A gown that looks traditional for the most part but trails off into a whirlwind of colour at the end.

While there is huge variation within this trend, it has received a lot of online attention in recent months.

Artist Taylor Ann Linko airbrushed the tail of her gown with strong sunset style colours which perfectly complimented her multi-coloured hair and bouquet to create this striking look.

Meanwhile Today has reported that British designer Lucy Scragg decided to “shake things up a bit” by applying a bright blue colour to her lace-topped gown.

And designer Traci Hines used the trend to enhance her Little Mermaid themed photoshoot.

We don't know about you, but walking up the aisle in a dress which has been described as 'full of bad memories and shattered hopes and dreams'' doesn't exactly scream 'dream wedding' to us, but maybe we're just more superstitious than most.

In a move which now has her in line to net a staggering £66,000, one Ebay user from the UK decided to auction her wedding dress after she learned that her husband of two years had been cheating on her.

In an ad which not only describes both her dress and the man she married in great detail, princess_p1988 explains that the sale of the gown will help fund her divorce.

Offering a detailed description to interested parties, she writes: "There are tiny buttons down the back but these are for decoration as it fastens with a long zip, so quite easy to get into compared to some of the monstrosities of dresses I've seen."

"As it reaches the floor, it is a little dirty around this area and so will need a dry clean before it's worn for your special day." she continued.

Adding, "I didn't have time to get it dry-cleaned myself before my cheating scumbag of a husband decided to call an end to our marriage. It cost my poor parents around £2000 brand new in 2014!"

"If you want a dress that is full of bad memories and shattered hopes and dreams then this is the one for you! Hope this dress brings you a lot more happiness than it brought me in the end and if not…well you can always sell it on here!"

Apologising for the lack of photos, princess_p1988 explains: "When I found out my husband was living with another woman, I pretty much burned/permanently deleted everything with his disgusting face on it!"

Not only inexplicably enthusiastic about the prospect of paying 30 times more than the original price, 75 Ebay bidders clearly have no qualms about rocking a dress associated with so many bad memories.

Ah, lads.

Whether you’re looking for an Instagramable place to eat or a new way to decorate your bedroom, Pinterest is the perfect place for creative inspiration.  And what occasion demands more design inspo than your wedding?

While many people love trawling through the image sharing platform’s endless stream of big day photography, others prefer to get straight to the good stuff so thankfully Pinterest has revealed its most popular wedding gown.

The winning layered lace dress has been pinned to more than 2.5 million boards and is the work of an Australian label called Grace Loves Lace.

The Hollie gown – which was first released in 2013 – is the perfect combination of boho and traditional wedding designs as it features a translucent skirt which hangs beautifully over a shorter lace dress, thin straps and a low-backed bodice hand-crafted from French lace.

Unfortunately for those looking to get their hands on the gown – which was worn by Millie Mackintosh at her wedding reception – it has now been discontinued, but it has been replaced by a similar updated version which is just as popular as the original.

Harper’s Bazaar Australia has reported that the Hollie 2.0 has already been back-ordered by over 700 brides-to-be, so if you want to get your hands on Pinterest's best loved dress you’ll have to get your name down quick.

She might be best known as Ciara, but Ciara Princess Wilson really lived up to her middle name yesterday when she married professional footballer Russell Wilson at Cheshire’s Peckforton Castle.

The pop star and her new husband – who announced their engagement back in March – took to Instagram last night to share the first picture from their big day with fans.

The image shows the newlyweds walking hand-in-hand down the aisle shortly after tying the knot and is proudly captioned: "We are The Wilsons."

Ciara’s stunning white lace gown – which featured subtle corset detailing to the front and delicate bell sleeves – was designed by her friend Peter Dundas, who also happens to be Roberto Cavalli’s creative director.

We are The Wilsons!

A photo posted by Ciara (@ciara) on

The designer later regrammed the shot, writing: “Congratulations my dear friend Ciara and Russell Wilson.  Looking like a fairytale princess bride in #CavalliCouture.”

The Love Sex Magic singer wore a long veil over soft curls for the event and completed the look with a simple all white bouquet.

Unfortunately Ciara’s close friend Serena Williams was unable to make the occasion as she was committed to the Wimbledon semi-finals.

A source told E! News: "Serena really wanted to be a part of Ciara's bridal party when she asked her a while back, but she knew work may conflict.”

"Ciara was understanding and knows Serena would be there if she could. They have spoken today and have FaceTimed each other, so it's like Serena is in the room with all the girls."

Thankfully the star wasn’t left short of help in Serena's absence as she had eight bridesmaids – one being singer Kelly Rowland – who were all dressed in Michael Costello custom couture.

Congrats ya'll!

Weddings can be both glorious and demanding – we all know it.

It's a great honour to be asked to be a bridesmaid too, especially if it's one of your BFFs – but as one woman found out, it's not all champagne and diamonds.

For one unlucky bridesmaid, it was quite the opposite. It was demanding, frustrating, time-consuming and financially stressful.

Now, you might think that every wedding has to have a little bit of stress – it can't all go swimmingly – but just wait until you hear the demands that this woman had to put up with.

The anonymous bridesmaid wrote about her experience on Mamamia.com, and begins by saying she was "overjoyed" to be asked to be in the wedding party.

But then, her "joy quickly turned to utter despair" when Caroline, the bride, became obsessive with every part of the wedding.

Then, one day, out of the blue, Caroline asked the unlucky bridesmaid to make an Exel spreadsheet of cake-makers, which had to include the price of each one, the different flavours, contact info, and what "prestige" level each cake-maker is on. However, she was working that day, and had to leave the spreadsheet until the next morning:

"On Saturday morning I cancelled my breakfast plans, instead researching Tasmanian wedding cake-makers that might be suitable.

"I sent it through to her and had a reply almost immediately. 'Thanks for this, would've been really helpful to have it yesterday when specified but I appreciate it'."

WOW.

But wait, it gets worse. The bridesmaid then had to give up three consecutive weekends to go wedding dress shopping with the bride and her other six bridesmaids.

Caroline found the "perfect dress" – but it was double her budget. The other bridesmaids said she should "totally splurge" on it, which she did, but then asked all the bridesmaids to "pitch in."

We kid you not. And the bride's reasoning? Pitching in would make the dress a "sentimental" treasure.

Now, the anonymous bridesmaid was, understandably, very angry and wasn't to quick to jump on giving her money away for someone else's dress.

She ended the piece with saying she may have to re-think the whole bridesmaid thing, and may "have to bail on the wedding… and friendship."

Well, any Katie Price fans out there can now get a little bit of Jordan all to themselves.

Katie is selling one of her wedding dresses – on actual eBay – and we just can't help but wonder why.

It is thought that the dress is the one she wore for her marriage reception to Alex Reid in 2010, although it's not specified.

The listing says: “Stunning wedding dress by David’s Bridal. Katie wore this to her wedding reception for a few hours.”

But our favourite line is: "This was expensive."

The eBay listing also includes photos of the bride and her best friends, Gary Cockerill and Phil Turner.

The price started at £250 (€327) on Monday night and at time of writing it is already up to £2650.99 (€3470).

Katie must have been reminiscing over the weekend though, as she also replied to a tweet from Kim Kardashian… from SEVEN years ago.

While the glamour model was trying make it big in America in 2009 and Kim tweeted that she saw Katie on the plane.

Kim said: "Omg Katie Price aka Jordan and her husband Peter are on my flight home from NYC!"

And Katie replied: "Awe that is so cute! Thankyou Kim #Flashback."

Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria have been friends for nearly more than a decade… and fashion was one of the things that brought them so close together.

So, it's no wonder that Vicky is going to design Eva's wedding dress for when she marries businessman Jose Antonio Baston, reports The Sun.

The former Spice Girl will create a "romantic, sexy, silk gown" for her actress friend.

The newspaper said that Victoria is already thinking of ideas for the dress, but that doesn't mean she is going to add them to her fashion line.

A spokesperson for VB's line said, "We have no plans to expand the business to include wedding dresses," so Eva's dress will be a once-off.

The pair first became friends when Victoria had to move over to America for David's football career. Speaking to Mail Online this year, Eva said of her relationship with Vics: 'We're best friends and have shared lots of life lessons together."

We're sure it's going to be the wedding dress of DREAMS. #Goals.

Planning a wedding? You have to think about the invites, the cake, the venue, the band, the food, the photographer, the church and countless other things but for most brides finding the perfect wedding dress sits firmly at the top of that never-ending list.

Shopping for the perfect dress is pretty much a wedding rite of passage. You gather your mammy and your trusted bridesmaids to sip champagne and try to find the perfect gown before heading out for a boozy brunch. And we all know that we may just HAVE to repeat the process… numerous times.

But what if you would prefer to have the dress dilemma sorted in the click of a button and for just couple of hundred euro…

Well ASOS has the now given you that option. The trusted online retail giant has announced the launch of it's first line of bridal gowns. Notoriously ahead of the fashion curve, ASOS is aiming to sell designer looking gowns for a fraction of the price.

Due to be available online from April 2016, official prices have not ye been released but according to Who What Wear all the dresses will cost less than €400! Now THAT is a bargain.

The styles range from more traditional silhouettes (lacy long sleeves, a-lines and trumpet styles) to more modern looks (short cocktail style dresses and Grecian goddess style numbers). And with a price tag that will leave a lot of spare cash in the big day budget, these dresses are definitely winning us over.

We can't wait to get a peek at the full range but for now, just need to find a husband…

Just weeks after totally trolling the internet with a fake snap of her wedding dress, Whitney Port has come up trumps with the real deal.

The reality star wed her banker boyfriend Tim Rosenman in a Palm Springs ceremony on Saturday, November 7, and the first snap of her beautiful dress has just made it online.

Whitney posed for her first official wedding snap in a sandy garden area near her wedding venue, and proved that her dress was certainly worth the wait.

The custom-made gown with its waterfall hemline and flowing train was a collaborative creation with Muhammed Ashi of Beirut-based Ashi Studio.

"At the start, Whitney saw a dress from the latest couture collection and she got inspired for an idea for her wedding dress,” the designer tells Us Weekly. “It was inspired by a vintage chandelier from Venice and Florence."

The dress's lace and silver embroidery was decorated with tiny off-white pearls, applied using a beading technique called Zardozi.

Aside from a stunning pair of white flower-embellished stilettos, Whitney kept her accessories simple, opting for a pair of gold, pearl and diamond earrings belonging to her mother-in-law. That's definitely an expensive "something borrowed"…

Even Whitney's new husband was blown away by the stunning dress, saying he had no idea what to expect.

"There was so much buildup to what her dress was going to look like because we kept it secret," he said.

"I didn’t think it could possibly match the buildup, but I was blown away. She looked fantastic."

We cannot WAIT to see more pictures of the big day.

Top model Hilary Rhoda tied the knot over the weekend, and while her wedding was destined to be incredibly chic, the 28-year-old chose a very unconventional style of wedding dress.

Hilary has been the face of many campaigns including Estee Lauder and has starred on the cover of Sports Illustrated as well as walking in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

The model married NHL player Sean Avery in a white, black AND green Carolina Herrera gown. And while she obviously looks stunning, it's a very unusual style for the bride.

The modern dress featured a plunging neckline with contrasting green panels and a black and gold studded neckpiece over her shoulders.

The loved-up pair married in a sunset ceremony on the grounds of Parrish Art Museum in Long Island and needless to say, everything was very stylish.

Hilary's bridesmaids we're very elegant as well – no taffeta in sight. Instead, they wore sleek black cut-out gowns by US brand Reformation.

While out-of-the-box, we think Hilary and her bridal party looked effortlessly elegant in their dresses, and we can see a definite rise of the unconventional bridal look like this one in the future.
