nutella

Okay, not to alarm anyone, but a Nutella café is about to open and it’s everything you imagined it would be.

There’s just one problem. It’s in Chicago.

But if you think that’s going to st op us from getting way too excited, think again.

The menu is packed with variety of sweet and savoury dishes, most of which are smothered in the delicious hazelnut spread.

Crepes, gelato, waffels and pancakes are just some of the amazing treats on offer and unlike the pop-up Nutella cafés of the past, this one is here to stay.

According to director of operations at Brand Innovation Group, Angela Baird, the architectural design of the cafe is meant “to make you feel like you're actually walking into a jar of Nutella."

Amazing.

The café will open it's doors at 10 a.m. on May 31, and we're praying an Irish version won't be too far behind.

Lets not beat around the bush, we all love Nutella, whether it be in a crepe, on toast or even alone on a spoon.

So imagine our devastation when we read a study that claims that one of Nutella's main ingredients, palm oil, is carcinogenic.

The report, by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), claims that palm oil is more cancer-causing than any other oil when refined at temperatures above 200 degrees, as it often is in the food processing industry.

However, the study did not recommend that consumers stop eating it (thank goodness) as further research into the area is required.

Nutella producer Ferrero has taken a public stand to defend the ingredient, after some companies have called for a boycott of the cheap oil.

"Making Nutella without palm oil would produce an inferior substitute for the real product, it would be a step backward," Ferrero's purchasing manager Vincenzo Tapella told Reuters.

Nutella relies on the oil to help create its smooth, spreadable texture and maintain its shelf life.

In order to counteract the 3 percent dip in sales that Nutella has seen since the publication of the palm oil report, the company has released a TV ad discussing the studys findings and reassuring customers that its spread is safe.

"The palm oil used by Ferrero is safe because it comes from freshly squeezed fruits and is processed at controlled temperatures," Tapella says in the ad.

Well thank god for that.

Even though we love a shneaky McDonald's every now and again, we're not sure about this one.

The fast food chain has introduced a Nutella burger, and we fear it's just OTT.

The Sweety Con Nutella is a sweetened bun stuffed with a heap-load of the chocolate spread.

The McDonald's Facebook said: "A soft sweetness has arrived that you will not be able to resist. Try Sweety with Nutella now: soft bread with a creamy, indulgent centre."

For the moment, it's only available in Italy, but everyone is probably going to love it, so no doubt it'll be rolled out to numerous other Maccy D chains around the world.

We could be wrong, it might be delicious, and we'd say any sweet-tooths out there are going to go crazy for it.

Just when we thought we had tried Nutella in all of its forms and on everything we could find in our kitchen, the internet goes and smacks us in the face with this one.

While we are not even going to consider how many calories would be in a single portion of this bad boy, we cannot go through the rest of our lives without trying fried Nutella ice-cream.

Yes, you are beautiful < Nutella Fried Icecream > #piccolome #ivebeenpiccolod #friedmaltella

A video posted by Have You Been Piccolo'd Yet? (@piccolome) on

Yes. You heard us. Ice-cream that has been FRIED and tastes like Nutella.

Heaven help us.

Named the Maltella, this dessert is a giant fried ball of Nutella ice-cream that has then been drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce.

It is the pretty astounding work of the chefs at Sydney cafe, Piccolo Me, but we would absolutely not judge if you had just contemplated flying half way across the world to try this one out.

"We were one of the first cafés to ride the Nutella wave, but now it’s everywhere — anything you can put it on, you put it on," said co-founder of the cafe Roy El Hachem.

We agree, Nutella goes on anything.

You'll have to be quick though, as the dessert is on special for one week only from this Monday, 25 January.

Still, we are enjoying just looking at this thing.

It's fair to say that most of us have a very loving relationship with Nutella.

We slather it on our toast, put it in our smoothies and even bake delicious cakes with it.

But as we all know and love it, we bet you didn't know these eight weird facts about it:

1. We're pronouncing it ALL wrong

It's not pronounced Nut-Ella, folks. Nope, Nutella's official website ended the argument and told us it's pronounced New-Tell-Uh.

2. It was first made for 'intelligent housewives'

Yep, according to Nutella World, when it first launched in Italy in the 1950s, it was marketed towards 'intelligent housewives' as it was a cheap way to feed your family in the morning.

3. It's kinda responsible for a €21 BILLION empire

Maria Franca Fissolo and her family own the Ferrero Group who make Ferrero Rocher, Kinder Chocolates and Nutella. This puts their net worth at more than $23.4 billion (€21.2bn), which lands them at No. 32 on Forbe's 500 richest people in the world.

4. Cocoa rationing during WW2 is what led to the creation of Nutella

Pastry maker Pietro Ferrero mixed hazelnuts in with chocolate in order to stretch it out for longer during the second World War.

5. There are 97 hazelnuts in every jar

The BBC reports that Nutella buys 25 percent of the world's hazelnuts every year. And there's nearly 100 nuts in a 750g jar.

6. Deep-friend Nutella is a thing

And here's how to make it.

7. Nutella had a social network before Facebook even existed

It was called MyNutella.it, and it launched in April 2003. The 150,000 members would share their thoughts about Nutella and posted photos and artwork of the chocolate spread too.

8. A super fan created a World Nutella Day – and then got a Cease-And-Desist letter

Major fan girl, Sara Rosso decided to create World Nutella Day to celebrate the chocolately spread… but then received a Cease-And-Desist letter from the company.

Sara fought it though, and Nutella had to apologise for being so dramatic and thankfully, World Nutella Day lives on! It's Feb 5th, btw.

Do you remember the news that rocked the world of any and all chocolates fans last month?

When Brown Thomas announced that they would be introducing a personalisation service for our favourite chocolate spread, the internet went absolutely wild.

The "ultimate stocking filler" has proven to be a massive success in Brown Thomas Dublin. So much so that Brown Thomas Cork are opening up their own personalisation station too.

Hurrah!

Chocolate lovers (or very good gift-givers) will have the opportunity to personalise a jar of Nutella with up to 9 characters.

Individual personalised jars will be priced at €5.50, there is also the option to purchase a personalised jar in a presentation box for €7.50.

Once again, Caoimhe can finally have her own personalised treat, but those Christophers and Blaithnaids will still be left waiting, unfortunately.

The Nutella Personalisation service is available exclusively at Brown Thomas Cork from Tuesday 17th November.

Described as "funky, warm, hipster, but also family-orientated," a brand-new bar is about to open its doors in Sydney's Dulwich Hill area.

So what's the big deal, you ask? Well, this is not any old hipster-friendly establishment, no siree.

In fact, it's a specialist NUTELLA eatery which will serve up an array of chocolatey, hazelnutty, sugary wonders.

And yes, frankly, we're already seriously considering selling a kidney and using the proceeds to hop on a 17,250km flight Down Under.

Offering "every Nutella product you can think of," the owners have already said they reckon the quirky likes of Nutella cruffins, Nutella banana bread, Nutella macarons, Nutella brownies, Nutella icecream and Nutella cheesecakes will be among their biggest sellers, although the more standard Nutella crepes, waffles, and pancakes are sure to be a hit too.

The concept has been kicked off by the same folk who run the city's popular Foodcraft Espresso And Bakery

Recently, the cafe caused an on-line storm when its €6.50-a-pop Tella Ball milkshake – a mouth-watering mix of three scoops of Nutella and vanilla ice cream topped with a Nutella-infused doughnut – went viral.

Understandably, the Tella Ball will also be available in the new cafe. For those of us not based in Sydney, SHEmazing! has rounded up the following Instagram snaps… now let's all take a sugar-infused moment to dare to dream…

We've only just recovered from the announcement that personalised Nutella jars are now available in Dublin – when yet more chocolatey, hazelnutty, sugary news comes our way – this time from Milan.

Yes, some 60 French and Italian chefs have now created a Guinness World Record-breaking baguette – which stretches to an astonishing 120-metres.

Better still, once the record had been authenticated, it was sliced, diced and smeared with lots of lovely Nutella – being then passed around to the waiting crowd of hungry observers.

"It's very difficult to do a big baguette because we are outside, you know, the temperature, it's cold and we are outside so for the dough it's not easy," said Dominique Anract, one of the bakers and owner of the La Pompadour bakery in Paris.

The Italian city is currently hosting the six-month long Expo 2015 – a world fair that Michael D Higgins visited back in June as part of an official three-day tour of Italy.

It was at least the fourth world record declared during the Expo, which closes October 31. Further world bests include the longest pizza, which came in at an astonishing 1.6km.

The talented bakers worked for nearly seven hours on Sunday to bake the impressive baguette. Kneading at a rate of 20metres an hour, a specially designed portable oven was also constructed on site for the task.

Today is the day that Irish rugby fans the world over have been looking forward to, as the lads in green prepared to do take on Argentina in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final.

While candles are being lit up and down the country as the team face a very difficult challenege, one well-known department store took a photo sure to boost everyone's spirits.

While there have been thousands of tweets sent out in support of the team before the match, and even more priceless reactions during the game, this is possibly our favourite.

Even if we have been pronouncing it wrong all this time (oopsies), here at SHEmazing! Towers we're mega-fans of the chocolatey, hazelnutty, sugary spread that is Nutella.

In fact, we had long-ago assumed that it couldn't really get any better.

How very wrong we were: because now Nutella has just upped its game… and we're deliciously excited.

Yes, from this Friday, Brown Thomas Dublin will be offering an exclusive personalisation service which allows you to brandish the otherwise humble jar.

Never know what to get your friends and family for Christmas? Well sit back and relax; it may only be October, but you're already sorted – because it will be tubs of Nutella all round this festive season.

Brown Thomas is calling it the "ultimate stocking filler". Pish-posh, we say! These will be given pride of place under the tree (albeit away from the radiator), because it's unlikely that any other gift will top them. Ever.

You have up to nine characters to play with (fair play Alexander and Aoibheann, you just make it – better luck next time, Christopher and Blaithnaid) and can avail of the service in the Grafton Street store's Living Floor on Level 3.

Individual personalised jars are priced at €5.50, while there is also the option to purchase a personalised jar in a presentation box for €7.50.

The Nutella personalisation service is available exclusively at Brown Thomas Dublin from Friday October 16 onwards.
