love letters

To All The Boys I've Loved Before has taken the Irish Netflix audience by storm in recent weeks – with fans taking to social media to praise the romantic storyline and unique concept.

16-year-old Lara Jean writes secret love letters to all her former flames, but these letters are somehow posted to all of her high school crushes. Understandable, chaos follows.

As one of the most popular films on Netflix at the moment, and a Netflix Original, the streaming service wanted to mark the movie in a special way.

Telling their Twitter followers that they just want to see a little more love in the world, they invited fans of the film to write their own anonymous love letters, complete with their crushes Twitter handle, so that Netflix could post them.

The result was pretty damn heart-wrenching – with anonymous contributors pouring their hearts out online.

However, not everyone is happy with the attention. One Twitter user who was tagged as the recipient of a love letter, has lashed out against the declaration of love.

'The more comments I get on this, the more frustrated I get. Don’t do some “grandiose” rom com gesture to someone you don’t talk to and haven’t seen in the LAST FOUR YEARS,' she wrote.

'Also you had a girlfriend when we met and I have a GREAT BF (NO SECRET THERE). This isn’t romantic folks.'

Sometimes what works in a rom com definitely doesn't work in real life.

When people travel around the world, it's not uncommon for them to miss home. Many of us have been through it.

So, when this women, Meghan Coomes, worked in TV, she wanted a constant reminder of her family for when she had to travel.

“My family and I grew up hearing about my grandparents’ torrid love affair,” she told BuzzFeed.

That's when Coomes decided that she wanted a way to immortalize the letters *and* get a wearable keepsake at the same time.

“They were long-distance dating during WWII, and they wrote each other daily while apart — three years, three months, and four days.”

And from that, Meghan got a great idea.

She decided to use her grandparents' love letters, and make them into jewelery so she'd have something special on her for when she was on the road.

“I asked my grandma if I could use one of their letters to make a bracelet, so that I always had my family with me.

It takes Coomes roughly one day to make a piece of jewelry.

“She loved the idea. I used the back page of an original letter from New Year’s Eve in 1943.”

With that, Meghan made a necklace and ring and brought it everywhere with her.

She began having people compliment her on her jewelery constantly, and after a couple of years, Forever Yours, Agnes jewelery company was born.

Then, Coomes' jewelry company Forever Yours, Agnes was born.

With her business booming, Meghan now makes a copy of the letters and adheres them on to clear glass. She then adds jewels and stones to complete each piece.

Meghan's creations are absolutely gorgeous and we just love the Notebook-style beginning to her story.

Wow, we thought The Notebook's Noah was being romantic when he told Allie he'd written her a love letter every day for a year… but it looks like he has a long way to go to top this!

74-year-old Bill Bresnan has written a love letter to his wife Kirsten every day for almost 40 years, and she has kept every one of them.

Bill says the notes began as small scribbles and doodles on napkins shortly after the couple met while commuting on the same train to work, but that he began writing one every day when they married, almost four decades ago.

"All the letters are signed, 'I love you, my darling' with an infinity sign," Bill told ABC News. "They're essentially a love diary. For example, I could pick out a day in 1982, and it'll begin with the restaurant we ate in or a movie we saw and then a reaction to that."

And what's Bill's secret to  healthy marriage? Good communication – like forty years of letters, for example! "We've never had a fight once in almost 40 years of marriage," Bill said. "We might disagree on something, but we talk about it rather than argue."

Bill says he's never missed a letter – even when the couple are away he'll send postcards or write letters beforehand. "My biggest fear now, given my age, is forgetting — but luckily I'm still pretty sharp," he admitted.

So romantic. Is someone chopping onions in here, or…?!

Well, it’s official – the most romantic love letter of all time has been revealed and the author is none other than Johnny Cash!

The letter was written twenty-one years ago, on his wife June Carter’s 65th birthday. As many of us will know from watching Walk The Line, June and Johnny’s relationship wasn’t always easy but as always – true love prevails!

Johnny wrote to his darling wife:

“Happy Birthday Princess,

We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.

But once in a while, like today, I meditate on it and realise how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I’ve ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.

Happy Birthday Princess,

Johnny.”

Excuse us while we dry our eyes…

Also on the list of top ten love letters was Beethoven’s one to his mystery lover, which he finished off with the words: “Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours.”

These words were made even more well-known in recent years after Carrie and Big adopted them in the Sex and the City movie.

Perhaps these famous romantic words will inspire us to pen our very own love letter…

But probably not.

Sometimes it can be difficult to think of heartfelt and thoughtful gifts for your other half.

If you start collecting these things now, soon you’ll have plenty of cute collages or frames to give your love that will make lovely memories come flooding back.

And what could be more romantic than that?

1. Cinema tickets
Keep all of your movie stubs and in a few years you’ll be able to make the cutest collage ever with some retro movies in there.

2. Emails
In today’s technological world, letters rarely get written let alone sent. So instead of collecting love letters like our parents, print off your emails so you can keep them. It’s not quite as romantic, is it?

3. Birthday/Valentine’s/Christmas Cards
If things work out with your other half and you have a birthday card sent so long ago it is signed “from” – well that is going to be simply adorable!

4. Restaurant business cards
Going for dinner is a big part of most relationships. Discreetly collect business cards from the nice places you visit. Chances are at least a few will be in far flung places.

5. Airline boarding passes
Many couples love to travel together. If this is you then collect all of your boarding passes and you can create a lovely collage of pictures from your trip with the passes.

6. Flowers
Yes, we know flowers wilt but if you learn the simple art of flower pressing then they don’t have to! All you need is flowers, newspaper, and some heavy weighted books! Place the flowers in the arrangment you would like inside the sheets of newspaper. Then put the newspaper inside the middle of a large book. Place more large books on top. This weight will help to flatten out and dry them faster. In about 3-4 days your flowers should be ready and preserved to do whatever you like!

7. Festival tickets/wristbands
You’ll likely have to wrestle them off his wrist first! Festivals are always filled with feel-good memories of freedom and no worries. Perfect.
