Love Island

by

So, love it or hate it, one thing's for sure – there's no escaping ITV2's reality romance show, Love Island.

This years instalment has proved to be the most popular yet, with thousands of fans across the UK and Ireland tuning for their fix every night.

The show centres around a group of young singles who have all been moved into a luxury villa in an effort to find love and hopefully win some cash at the end.

Sure, all the contestants are young and beautiful, but the real stars of the show have come in the form of the common catchphrases used by the cast.

Not only have sayings like 'I used to be in Blazin Squad' and 'Absolute Melt' crept their way into our daily vocabulary, they're about to make their way into our wardrobes too.

Penneys have designed a collection of six t-shirts baring some of the reality show's most popular phrases – so everyone can know just how obsessed you really are.

The t-shirts will be rolled out across selected Penneys stores from Wednesday, July 12.

No word on how much they'll cost, but you'll be able to find them in Penneys on Mary Street, Dublin, O'Connell Street, Dublin, Liffey Valley, Dundrum, Blanchardstown, and on Patrick Street, Cork.

If you're watching Love Island and screaming at the screen that you're so much better suited to Alex than any of the other gals, then this could be your chance.

Applications are still open to take part in this year's show, but you need to be quick because the closing date is this Friday.

Getting a tad excited that you might be chilling with Camilla and the crew? Well, according to Cosmo, the application process is pretty full on.

The website spoke to the show's producer, Lewis Evans, and it turns out it's not that easy to get on the show.

They not only pick contestants from their applications, but also search through social media to find the perfect person.

“We cast our net far and wide by looking at social media profiles as it’s always quite easy to gauge on there people who are popular, aren’t afraid to show themselves off and have a big following.

“It’s all about having a great mix of desirable, aspirational singletons who have interesting and engaging personalities to keep our viewers glued and entertained by what’s going on in the villa,” Lewis explained.

So, if you think you're the queen of social media, and have a pretty outgoing personality, then there's no harm in applying to be on the show, right?

They want someone who "stands out from the crowd." Could that be you?

If so, you can apply to be on the series here.

If you are one of those people who just haven't gotten on the Love Island hype, that might be about to change.

The romance-driven reality TV show has been dominating the headlines and Twitter feeds since the seriously saucy show began.

The drama-filled villa is about to get 11 new residents, one of them being Rob.

The news was officially announced last night, with Rob's social media pages posting his official Love Island mug shot.

'News is out! Rob has entered the Loveisland villa.'

'So excited for tomorrows episode @itv2 at 9pm. Who do you think Rob would be a good match with?'

Now that the 25-year-old fitness fanatic has entered the show, we may have to tune in.

The Dublin-based personal trainer gave his followers a hint that something major was on the horizon.

Taking to Instagram, he posted a snap captioned ' Big LF twist on the horizon. Can't wait to share.'

If you sense you might suffer some serious Love Island withdrawals after Cara and Nathan were crowned official winners last night, then it's time to pull up a pew to the programme's spin-off show.

That's right, the lads and ladies from one of TV's most controversial shows are more than happy to give viewers a peek into their lives as those last bikinis are packed away and the sand is blown off those passports.

According to Cosmo, ITV have announced that die-hard fans will be given a chance to follow the islanders as they head back to the UK and get a front-row seat for the fireworks which are bound to go off as they face each other at the wrap party.

"Dishing all the dirt on what happened when our Islanders got dumped from paradise, Love Island: Heading Home follows the contestants as they return to the UK," ITV said in light of the big announcement.

"Coming face to face for the first time since leaving the villa, what will happen when the Islanders are reunited at the series wrap party?" they asked. "Will it be round two for Terry and Malin? Will Tom forgive Sophie's dalliance with Katie?"

Finish off 'a summer of fun, frolics and feverish flirting' by watching those lovestruck lads and ladies adjust to life back in Britain.

Excuse us while we shriek all over ourselves.

It's barely been two weeks since Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby confirmed she had split from her on-off man Mitch Jenkins, but she's already moved on with someone new.

The reality star escaped her break-up blues as she headed on a night out in London with Love Island winner Max Morley. In a total "f**k you" to Mitch, Charlotte openly kissed Max in front of the waiting cameras, leaning into him as the pair left Chinawhite nightclub.

Charlotte's not the only one looking for a rebound, as Max has also only just gotten out of a relationship.

The English cricketer won Love Island in July with his co-star Jessica Hayes, but the pair split just six weeks later.

And judging by these pictures, both Charlotte and Max are more than ready to wave goodbye to their former flames:

Speaking on Aussie radio station Hit 92.9 in late August, Charlotte said things had been moving too fast with Mitch and that she got cold feet.

"Me and Mitch were supposed to be moving in together and I was going to move down to London with him and I then realised that wasn't the place I wanted to be, and I didn't want to leave my mum and I didn't want to leave my family and I think the commitment made us take a couple of steps back."

While the pair have split and reunited various times over the past two years, the 25-year-old seemed defiant that things really were over for good.

"I finished things and we haven't been back together ever since. I think that's it now," she said.

Charlotte and Mitch originally split last November, but reunited in early January, much to the disappointment of many of Charlotte's fans who felt the couple's rocky past was a sign that they should stay apart.

Is it not a bit soon to be jetting off Mark?

Not long after marrying his stunning wife Michelle Keegan and enjoying a lavish honeymoon together, Mark Wright is packing his bags and flying off to find love.

Another celebrity break up on the horizon? No, we wouldn’t be able to cope, not again.

But it looks like we don’t have to worry about any more heart breaks for the time being. Mark is going to join the show in order to help the current contestants really find love.

Mark, 28, is set to join the Love Island cast in to celebrate Lauren Richardson’s birthday. Lauren, also known as the girl who sent Zayn Malik fans into absolute chaos with one ill-timed photo.

Obviously Mark has already found the love of his life with Michelle, so he’s going to take on the role of DJ in order to help the other Islanders out.

"I'm really excited to be going in to DJ at Lauren's party," The Mirror reports Mark as saying, "I've been addicted to Love Island and I'll be making sure I get all the gossip whilst I'm in there."

We’re sure there will be plenty for him to investigate during his stay.

The current series of the show has been struggling with some lower-than-usual ratings this year and will come to an end on Wednesday night when the winner will walk away with nearly €70,000.

Mark isn’t the only familiar face to make a return to the show, Callum Best also made a reappearance to help the contestants out.

He decided to whisk the guys off for a night out in Magaluf, much to the displeasure of their respective girlfriends.

We’ll just have to wait and see what kind of plans future DJ Mark has in mind for the contestants.

Lauren Richardson was the envy of millions of girls worldwide when she was spotted holding hands and snuggling up to Zayn Malik on a trip to Thailand back in March.

However, Lauren, also known as ‘tattoo girl’, was brought back to reality in the most recent episode of Love Island: she was left mortified as no one came forward to pick her.

"This is a bit awkward isn’t it?" the East Londoner uttered in response. Later in the episode she broke down in tears confessing that she feels like "the ugly duckling of the group".

As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, lonely Lauren has to cope with the rest of the islanders gossiping about her much-publicised relationship with the former One Direction heartthrob.

It seems that for most of the show the rumour surrounding that photo of Lauren and Zayn was the only thing the 11 other contestants could talk about. Ms Richardson tried to control the gossip, reasoning that "I didn’t sleep with him," and that "there was just a picture of us holding hands when we came out of the nightclub".

According to the 26-year-old, the whole incident was blown out of proportion, but that hasn’t stopped her fellow islanders keeping the rumours circulating.

She says she is also still facing heavy criticism from One Direction’s fans, explaining on the show: "My Instagram is the worst. I will post a picture on Instagram and they will be like: 'Oh we hate you, you're a home-wrecker, we want to kill you." Yikes!

Luckily it wasn’t all doom-and-gloom for Lauren as later in the show she was paired up with the cheeky Joshua.

At least Zayn’s fiancé, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, 21, doesn’t seem to be worrying too much about the TV programme either. She attended the Frankie And Benny's Rays Of Sunshine Concert in London with her bandmates on the very night that Love Island first aired.

Zayn Malik might be doing his best to make things up to his fiancée Perrie Edwards after a rocky start to the year, but it looks like someone's just put a spanner in the works.

Back in March, Zayn abruptly quit One Direction just days after a photo of him with his arms around another woman, a fan named Lauren Richardson, emerged online.

The picture was taken in Thailand during the Asian leg of One Direction's On The Run tour, and when another photo appeared online of Zayn holding hands with the same woman, speculation began mounting that he had cheated on his girlfriend of four years, Little Mix singer Perrie.

Last week we reported that Lauren was getting ready to tell her side of the story as part of reality TV show Love Island, and now that promotion for the show's new series has begun, there's no escaping the fact that the blonde fan is about to dish the dirt.

Last night ITV released the first official photo of Lauren as a Love Island contestant, and revealed that she is ready to set the record straight on the "long story" behind the photos of herself and Zayn.

Describing herself as a "down to earth girl," Lauren teased her appearance on the show by saying, "I met Zayn in a nightclub in Thailand. It all got blown out of proportion. But that's a long story."

The new series kicks off on Sunday, and will see six single girls and six single guys being flown to a luxury villa in Mallorca to see if they can find love. Other contestants include former Miss England Rachel Christie, Page Three model Jessica Hayes, and former pro footballer Luis Morrison.

During the show, Lauren is expected to take part in an in-depth interview with host Caroline Flack, during which she will no doubt reveal the truth behind what happened with Zayn.

For Zayn's sake, and for Perrie's, we hope she has nothing too scandalous to share.

Uh-oh… we reckon 22-year-old Zayn Malik needs to get his story straight right about now, because Lauren Richardson is going down the reality TV route.

She is the same woman the former One Directioner was photographed holding hands with and snuggling up to at a party in Thailand back in March.

Is was widely reported that the incident – not to mention the huge amount of coverage it received – prompted Zayn to walk away from the mega-selling band, although he's always denied that anything untoward happened.

And now it has been revealed that Love Island, which returns to screens on Sunday, June 7, will feature 19-year-old Lauren; and she’s reportedly keen as mustard to give her side of story.

“Lauren sees Love Island as a great opportunity for people to see the real her.

“She has kept a low-profile since the stories ran about her and Zayn, and there are a lot of untruths that she wants corrected,” an insider told The Mirror today.

“[Lauren] never asked for the attention but now wants something positive to come from the situation,” the insider continues.

“She is looking forward to getting to Majorca and, hopefully, finding love in the process.”

Lauren was previously linked to the current series of Big Brother, but it seems her place on Love Island is confirmed.

Zayn has been dating Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards, 21, for three-and-a-half years. They announced their engagement in August 2013.

However, the relationship has been rocked by accusations that Zayn has on occasion been unfaithful, and Perrie has lately been spotted not wearing her engagement ring.

During a radio interview more than a week ago she reassured fans the jewellery was merely been cleaned – but on Wednesday at the BBC studios, the item was once again absent.

With Caroline Flack at the helm, Love Island returns to ITV2 on Sunday, June 7.
