It has been confirmed that college students across Ireland will be receiving some financial aid from the government during this academic year.

Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris announced today that brand new funding, worth €4.3M, will be made available to students nationally to help with the rising cost of living.

In the details for this financial year’s Budget, the government confirmed that it would be providing a number of once-off funding packages to help those in need.

As a result, Minister Harris will be launching the Student Assistance Fund, which will be aiming to help struggling students to cope with the cost of rising essentials such as books and other class materials, as well as rent, childcare and transport.

Minister Harris believes that this fund will provide critical support for students who need it, to allow them to continue their education with as little stress as possible.

“The Student Assistance Fund is an invaluable resource for third level students who are finding it difficult to make ends meet,” he stated this morning following the announcement of the fund.

“The fund is there to assist with additional costs they may face over the coming months. It is completely confidential and accessible through the Access Offices in publicly funded higher education colleges,” he added.

The total figure for the Student Assistance fund for this academic year currently stands at over €20M. The fund, according to Minister Harris, is also helping to increase the available maintenance grants for students, as well as reducing registration fees to €1,000.

Minister Harris also confirmed that students who are receiving the Tier 3 – 1916 Path 2 bursary will have their total increased to €500 for this academic year.

This bursary aims to help students from socio-economic backgrounds and those in underrepresented communities to gain access to higher education and succeed in their respective fields. Around 820 students are currently receiving the bursary.

Jennifer Coolidge has joined TikTok!

The White Lotus star has finally joined the popular social media platform, much to the delight of her fanbase.

However, if that news wasn’t already enough to brighten up your Friday, then just wait until you see what Jennifer decided to do for her first video!

@jennifercoolidge Trying out TikTok! @jlo ♬ Jenny from the Block (Bronx Remix – Edit) – Jennifer Lopez

Taking to the platform last night, the 61-year-old actress wowed in a black sequined dress as she addressed her audience. “Hi, this is my first TikTok and I was trying to think of something cool to do, and I think I’m just going to do a poem that I like,” she begins in the video.

With a deadpan expression, Jennifer then begins to do a dramatic reading of a few lyrics from the chorus of Jennifer Lopez’s hit Jenny From The Block.

Then, just when you think the video cannot get any funnier, the camera then pans to Jennifer Lopez herself, sitting to the side of Coolidge and appearing to be very impressed. “I like that! I really, really like that!”, she praises.

For one final glint of comedy, the camera then pans back to Coolidge as she beams teasingly. We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve watched this, and it looks like we're not alone, as the video already has over 1.7M views!

It appears as though both actresses found the time to create the comedic video in between promotional interviews for their new Amazon Prime film, titled Shotgun Wedding.

In the brand new action-comedy, Lopez takes up the lead role of Darcy, a bride-to-be who, along with her fiancé Tom (Josh Duhamel), brings all of their loved ones together for their destination wedding. However, things soon go sideways when everyone at the ceremony is taken hostage by gunmen.

The question is, though – will the gunmen be the cause of any deaths, or will strained relationships between the families be the first casualty?

Coolidge joins the cast as Lopez’s on-screen mother-in-law Carol, in what promises to be a hilarious film when it is released next Friday, January 27. Until then, we guess we’ll just have to keep watching the two Jennifer’s iconic TikTok on loop!

Ed Sheeran has released an emotional song called F64 in honour of his late friend and music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards MBE.

Jamal Edwards, son of Loose Women presenter Brenda Edwards, tragically passed away in February 2022, aged 31, due to cardiac arrest caused by recreational drug use.

As the one year anniversary of Jamal’s passing approaches, Ed has released this ode to his friend as part of F64, a rap series that Jamals’ music platform SBTV created.

The Shape of You singer mentions loving memories of him and Jamal together, as well as his daughters and the impact Edwards’ passing has had on him.

Sheeran’s music video opens with Sheeran standing in the centre of a ring of candles as he begins to sing, “Yo Jam, this is a letter to you. It's been a while, but it's been hard for me to get in the booth. Since we last spoke, I've become a father of two”.

“Therapy sessions, digging deep in depression. I got a life full of blessings, but this just breaks my f***ing heart. At your birthday, couldn't even crack a smile”.

The dad-of-two seemingly sings about wishing he knew about his friend’s drug use, “I never knew you touched the stuff, 'cause you'd always bad me up. You saw me more than drunk, you always hated what it does. Before Lyra I just stopped, I haven't even wanted one. I can't get over, this is f***ed, man I wished I'd known”.

Ed then says that Edwards would’ve been his youngest daughter’s godfather. “You left the world before you met Jupiter. Wish you'd have known, you would be godfather. You would've loved loving my little girls. If not for them, I'd be done with the world”.

“Was there two hours after you passed. Speeding east to west, silent in the back of the car. Was at your mum's, there all week, trying to make sense but I can't”.

Ed then references always being there for Jamal’s family. 'Cause it's been a long night and I cry 'cause I miss my brother. And for life, got your sis and mother”.

The video was filmed in Stamford Bridge stadium, home of Chelsea FC, whom Jamal was a lifelong fan of. The clip shows his name spelt out in the stadium’s seats.

When asked if her C-section birth was a positive or scary experience, Maeva replied: “Scary. I hated it.”

Alec Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, a New Mexico district attorney has decided.

The charge has been brought against the 64-year-old actor following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.

Baldwin had been on the set of the Western drama Rust, and was firing what he believed to be a ‘cold gun’ when 42-year-old Hutchins was shot and later killed. The bullet also injured writer-director Joel Souza in the shoulder.

Prop armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter. Meanwhile, the person who handed Baldwin the gun, assistant director Dave Halls, has already accepted a suspended sentence and six months of probation for negligent use of a deadly weapon.

“If any one of these three people – Alec Baldwin, Hannah Gutierrez Reed or David Halls – had done their job, Halyna Hutchins would be alive today. It’s that simple,” prosecutor Andrea Reeb said today in a statement.

“The evidence clearly shows a pattern of criminal disregard for safety on the Rust film set. In New Mexico, there is no room for film sets that don’t take our state’s commitment to gun safety and public safety seriously,” the lawyer added.

Baldwin and Reed’s charges will be filed before the end of the month. It is expected that a preliminary hearing will be held within the next two months, to allow the prosecution to present their case, before the judge decides if a trial should go ahead.

In October of last year, Baldwin confirmed that he and the other producers of Rust had agreed a settlement with Hutchins' family, and that her widower, Matt, would join Rust as an executive producer.

Baldwin had previously said that he had hoped to resume filming on Rust at some stage this month, but it seems that plans to complete the unfinished film have yet to be agreed.

Melissa Suffield has shared a touching tribute in honour of her husband, Robert, returning to work on a cruise ship, resulting in them not seeing each other for four months.

The former EastEnders star, known for playing Lucy Beale on the BBC soap, has opened up about the difficulties of not seeing her partner for so long and the impact it has on their son River.

Sharing a gorgeous family photo in front of a sunset on the beach, Melissa penned, “And just like that, three becomes two again. After a lovely 3 months together, Robert has returned to the ship for another 4 months- so it’s back to mum and River 24/7”.

“We’ve had a wonderful break, and although we’re all used to this now, it doesn’t get any easier. In fact, it probably gets more difficult- Riv gets more aware, we both start to realise how much he can change in a 4 month window”.

She continued to talk about milestones that Robert, who is a cruise ship director, misses while he is away, “He’s gaining skills DAILY that feel so grown up, it feels like Robert will return to a completely different kid at this point. And although it’s still the right choice for our family, it doesn't make the decision an easy one”.

“But it’s all entirely worth it for moments like these. Time spent together, or seeing River’s face when we both appear as he wakes, and being able to simply sit and do nothing, with company”.

“Tiny small joys that so many take for granted. We never do”.

Many fans of the soap star headed to the comments to share supportive messages for the mum-of-one as she adjusts back to spending time apart from Robert.

“Beautiful photo. I hope these next 4 months fly by til you’re all back together”, wrote one follower.

A second fan penned, “Lots of love to you & hope these 4 months go quickly”, while a third added, “Your gorgeous family. Let the countdown begin xxx”.

Suffield then spoke on her Instagram Stories about her and River’s first morning with Robert being away for work.

She explained, “River understands that daddy isn't here, but I'm not 100% sold that he understands how long he'll be gone. Really difficult concept for any child, let alone a 2-year-old who's seen his dad all day every day for the last 3 months”.

Melissa and Robert welcomed their son River into the world in March 2020, after getting engaged in 2019.

Chloe Madeley has revealed she’s been ‘extremely worried’ about her daughter Bodhi as she had to bring her to the hospital twice in just one week.

The personal trainer shared an update on her daughter’s health earlier today, detailing how her tot’s temperature spiked and dropped quickly, leaving Chloe fearful of meningitis or sepsis.

Posting an adorable black and white video of herself and Bodhi cuddling and giggling together to Instagram, Chloe penned, “My little love has been very poorly this week. 2 trips to hospital and a lot of tears”.

“Her temperature went from 39.8° on Saturday morning to 34° on Sunday night, so I was extremely worried about meningitis and sepsis, but blood tests show its just the Flu Type A Virus. I say just, wow has she been unwell”.

The 35-year-old asked her followers, “Has anyone else had their little one’s temp drop that low with flu virus? I'm still a bit confused as to how / why that happened”.

“I’m also amazed at how much it has impacted my sleep and work load, and how hard the last 5 days have been”.

“I just want to say to any and all mothers out there who have to make these kinds of trips and deal with these kinds of things on a regular basis, that I am in AWE of you. That you are real life superheroes. That you amaze me”.

Madeley closed off sharing her appreciation for hospital staff, adding, “And also to the doctors and nurses pulling the graveyard shifts in paediatric A&E, thank you, you are the best of us”.
