Are you looking for more friends? You’re not alone. Loneliness is plaguing society, leaving us craving in-person connections. A recent Bumble survey revealed that forging new friendships online has been a game-changer, significantly alleviating loneliness. Enter Bumble For Friends, a friendship app for finding meaningful, platonic connections near you, which serves as a solution to changing how we connect.

Bumble Inc, the parent company of Bumble, Badoo, Fruitz and Official, announced the launch of Bumble For Friends this week, as a standalone app for finding friends. The app creates a new way for people to grow their friendship circles by discovering meaningful, kind and fun connections in their local area that is separate from the Bumble dating app.

The new app follows the successful BFF mode that’s been available within the Bumble app since 2016, which features three modes for: romantic relationships (Date), platonic friendships (BFF), and business connections (Bizz).

Bumble For Friends is expected to be especially popular among Gen Z, as new research from the app reveals that over a third (38%) of 18–24-year olds in Ireland believe that platonic relationships are more important than romantic relationships. However, a quarter are stuck in outdated friendships (25%) and a third are not satisfied with the ones they currently have.

The research found that while over half (57%) of 18-24 year olds in Ireland want to make new friends, almost a third (30%) feel prevented to do so due to finding it difficult to approach people in person and a fear of being judged.

“Friendship has always been a critical part of Bumble’s goal to living a healthy and happy life. With feelings of loneliness and isolation at an all-time high, now more than ever is a time to prioritise self-love and friendships for our well being. Having a dedicated Bumble For Friends app that’s separate from the dating experience makes friendship-finding easier for people looking to make meaningful platonic connections in their area,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble’s founder and CEO.

“People are more open to making friends online than ever before. In fact, in a recent Bumble For Friends survey, over a third of Gen-Z respondents in the UK shared that making new friends online lessened their loneliness,” Herd said. “No matter your life stage – whether it’s moving off to college, looking for a travel partner or becoming a new mum – Bumble For Friends creates a fun way to connect with people while helping solve the extremely important issue of loneliness.”

How Bumble For Friends Works

  • It starts with creating a profile that reflects the member’s personality and interests through uploading photos and showcasing hobbies that illustrate where the person is in their life and what kind of friends they’re looking to meet.
  • Bumble For Friends models a similar experience as Bumble Date where members see profiles for potential friends based on common interests, swipe right on profiles they would like to connect with and are notified when a match is made.
  • Anyone currently using BFF mode with the Bumble app who wishes to migrate their profile and connections into the Bumble For Friends app will be able to skip the set-up and easily do so upon downloading and logging into the new app as an existing member.
  • Once a BFF profile is moved over to the Bumble For Friends app, BFF mode is no longer available in the Bumble app. The Date and Bizz functionality remains.

Plan Group Meetups

A new, easier way to plan group meetups exclusively available in the Bumble For Friends app

  • Starting to roll out today within the new Bumble For Friends app, it’s easy to get a group together to make a plan to meet IRL.
  • Any member can create a plan for a group meetup with at least two of their connections from the conversations tab.
  • A member selects a planned activity from a list of suggestions or creates their own.
  • Once a member selects a plan theme or creates a title for the group chat, they can invite at least two of their matches.
  • Their matches receive an invite in their chat that is titled the name of the planned activity, which can be edited.
  • Anyone who accepts the invite can join the group chat and start discussing any of the meetup details.

Bumble For Friends is free to use and is available on the App Store and Google Play in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States with more regions to come.

Happy connecting!

“I feel like life is a lot different in [the villa] and outside here. A lot more things come up and different situations happen. Once we'd spoken about it, we agreed that it's not how we thought it would be. It's sad, but at the same time I know we're both on the same page,” she noted.

News of the first confirmed breakup from this summer’s series comes amid rumours that another couple is on the rocks.

Michelle Macken, National Trainer for Ultraceuticals, shares her 3-step approach to tackling hyperpigmentation, from sun spots to acne scars.

Uneven skin tone, blotchiness, dark spots and freckles are all examples of unwanted skin pigmentation – a.k.a hyperpigmentation – affecting many people across Ireland, particularly this time of year.

“Hyperpigmentation is a common skin concern we can be challenged with all year round but in particular after the sunny summer months,” explains Michelle Macken, National Trainer for Ultraceuticals, Australia's leading cosmeceutical-grade skincare brand.

But what is hyperpigmentation, and how can we manage it? We spoke to Michelle to get her go-to 3-step approach to prevent and treat the most common pigmentation conditions, from sun spots to acne scars and everything in between.

Michelle Macken, National Trainer for Ultraceuticals

Understand Your Triggers

According to Michelle, knowing and understanding your skin triggers is the first step in preventing and managing hyperpigmentation. Skin triggers can be internal or external factors. They include UV light and sun exposure, certain medications, hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy, and injury to the skin – for example, post-acne scarring. Or it can be related to diabetes and lead to the cause of dark knuckles.

“Wearing a broad-spectrum SPF is the number one prevention method,” says Michelle. “I recommend wearing the Ultra UV Protective Moisturiser SPF 30 or SPF 50. Apply a generous amount to clean, dry skin 20 minutes before sun exposure and again after swimming, exercising or towelling and reapply every 2 hours.”

Hyperpigmentation can also occur after a trauma or injury to the skin; a typical example is post-acne scarring: “You may notice some darkness or discolouration on old acne lesions. It may appear pinky-red or blue-brown – depending on your genetic pigmentation.”

Michelle’s top tip is never to pick your spots. Instead, she advises to “opt for a localised spot cream to treat your breakout such as the Ultra Clear Spot Complex; this can be used on the spot up to 3 times a day.”

Choose the Right Skincare

When treating hyperpigmentation at home, Michelle says you need to tackle the concern with a synergy of brightening skincare products.

Michelle advises upgrading your cleanser to one formulated to treat hyperpigmentation, such as the Ultra Brightening Foaming Cleanser. Next, she recommends applying a targeted treatment serum. “I’d recommend the Ultra Brightening Serum. This corrective serum has a remarkable formula developed specifically to improve the appearance of mild-excess pigmentation visibly.”

Swap your usual moisturiser for a treatment moisturiser. Michelle’s top pick is the Ultra Brightening Moisturiser Cream, “it’s a nourishing moisturiser that helps to enhance skin’s brightness, clarity and luminosity.”

Boost Results with Professional Treatments

Finally, Michelle says a synergy of home care and professional treatments is recommended to help achieve your skin goals.

“If you are concerned about dull, blotchy and uneven skin tone, I highly recommend a course of the Ultracueticals Radiance and Glow Facial Treatment,” says Michelle. “This features the Ultra Brightening Accelerator Mask with a cocktail of tried and tested ingredients to deliver a more even and smooth skin tone.”

Mitch has landed himself in some hot water!

At the end of last night’s edition of Love Island, Mitch confided in a few of his fellow boys and admitted that he thinks his partner Ella B is “fake”.

Speaking to Lochan, Mitch explained that he has a feeling that Ella B “cares more about being in here than she does about being with me.”

Now, in a brief teaser for tonight’s episode, it seems as though news has travelled fast!

The first look showcases Ella B and Mitch going out on their final date of the season. While the pair are out of the villa, Zachariah decides to let his partner Molly know what Mitch said.

“He was saying some crazy stuff yesterday. He started saying, ‘Ella B’s fake,’” Zach admits.

Later on, Molly chooses to take fellow Islander Whitney aside for a private chat.

“So, on the grapevine, Mitch has spoken to the boys and last night, he basically said to them that he thinks Ella B is fake,” Molly confessed.

Credit: ITV

“So, I’m quite worried about how this date is going right now, if he’s being honest with her, or if they’re going to come back close,” she continues, as Whitney exclaims: “Let me sit up!”

However, the teaser for tonight’s episode also hints that Mitch has regretted his comments.

After his date with Ella B, he notes to Lochan and Sammy: “I will have a chat with her in a bit, and just say, ‘I’ll be honest, I were tripping last night.’”

Credit: ITV

“Ella were worried and I just feel like, ‘Ella, you should be confident with us, and if we go, we go and that’s it,’” he added, referring to the couple’s recent close-call in a public vote.

Will Mitch get a chance to speak to Ella B before she finds out about his ‘fake’ comment?

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media Two.

Amy Dowden has shared an update after starting her chemotherapy journey.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional revealed on Friday that she has to undergo further cancer treatment, after her doctors discovered more tumours. Amy was initially diagnosed with grade three breast cancer in May.

Earlier this week, the 32-year-old began chemotherapy, and she has now taken to social media to share an update with her fans.

On her Instagram stories, Amy shared a snap of her treatment room. The Welsh dancer then went on to post a photo of her hospital’s cancer bell, which patients can ring once they have finished their treatment.

“I will ring that bell,” Amy wrote alongside the image with determination.

Amy’s update comes a few days after she announced that she had received a further diagnosis from her doctor.

On Friday, Amy spoke with rower Erin Kennedy during an Instagram video with charity CoppaFeel.

During their chat, the Strictly star decided to open up about the news she had recently received. “I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.”

“And then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours,” Amy admitted, adding: “My pathology wasn’t what we were expecting and then they found another type of cancer.”

Amy went on to confirm that this news sadly meant that she would no longer be able to take part in this year’s Strictly series. She had been announced as part of the dancers’ lineup before her cancer diagnosis.

“You can take away my boob but you can’t take my dancing away from me,” she stated.

“I was already upset about it, and obviously, this year, it means I’m not going to be able to dance with a celebrity on Strictly but I’m in such regular contact with the team, the BBC have been just utterly incredible,” Amy explained, adding that she hopes that she can still be a “part of the show in some way”.
