Anton Du Beke has spoken out about his dad stabbing him on Boxing Day when he was still living in his family home.

The Strictly Come Dancing star shared the upsetting story when speaking on Kate Garraway’s Life Stories

Ahead of the episode, which airs on ITV1 at 9pm tonight, a clip of the shocking chat between Anton and Kate has been shared online.

During the interview, Anton reflects back to his difficult childhood with his alcoholic dad.

“The alcoholism and the violence…(it was) towards me, because I was a boy, a young man I suppose”.

“You've got an alcoholic father and a situation where if you're in the house (he's) drinking then you end up with the fights and stuff”.

“You'd move room to get away from all of it and then he follows you in and the next thing you know the violence starts and then it came to a head one evening, I ended up in hospital for three days”.

Anton choked back tears as he went on to admit, “I got stabbed. I’ve never said this out loud before".

The 57-year-old revealed he never told friends and other family members about the incident as he didn’t see why he should or what he'd gain from doing it. “I'm a forward looker…I don't like to look back, I like to look forward”.

Recalling the event, Du Beke explained, “I got stabbed in the leg and in the stomach because of a fight on Boxing Day and it was an idiotic situation”.

“I remember walking out of the house to walk up to the hospital holding my leg and a police car drove past and I waved them down and I said, ‘He's in there with a knife’”.

“Anyway, they carted him off and I ended up in hospital for three or four days. My only concern was getting back into the studio and dancing and the embarrassment of it”.

Anton revealed he had told people he ‘pulled a hamstring’ instead of speaking about the stabbing because he was embarrassed.

After the attack, Anton’s dad was cleared in court for wounding his son.

The dancing judge also said that when his dad died, he did not attend his funeral. At the time, Anton changed his name from Anthony Beke to Anton Du Beke.

“I wanted a new start and a new beginning and I wanted to leave what went before, behind, and then move on with the rest of my life, I just wanted to be me”.

Much has been written and discussed about the importance of the microbiome from a gut health perspective, but it may surprise you to know, that the benefits of the microbiome is not just limited to the gut.  The microbiome is a collection of microorganisms (such as bacteria and fungi) that live in a particular environment – we know that they are present in the intestine, but did you know that they are also present in other areas of the body such as the skin, nose and mouth?

The skin microbiome refers to the diverse community of microorganisms that live on the surface of your skin. They feed our skin and stimulate our skin's immunity. They are a part of our body's ecosystem and provide a mutually beneficial support network.

On the top layer of our epidermis (the stratum corneum) microbes lie like a carpet protecting our skin barrier. These microbes are responsible for the overall function of the skin. They play a major role in skin health, they help maintain the skin barrier and support a healthy immune system. A balanced, healthy skin microbiome is key to clear, even and glowing skin.

How do we know if the microbiome has been disrupted?

You can tell if your skin has been compromised just by the look and feel of your skin. If you are experiencing the following symptoms, your microbiome has become aggravated:

  • Inflammation
  • Sensitivity
  • Redness
  • Acne
  • Pigmentation
  • Dryness
  • Itchy Skin

How do we achieve a healthy, balanced skin microbiome?

Gentle cleansing:

Using a mild and gentle cleanser ensures that the skin is not stripped of its natural oils. Avoid harsh soaps and cleansers that can disturb the natural balance of the skin microbiome.

Avoid over washing:

Washing your skin excessively disrupts the microbiome and can cause dryness. Wash when it is necessary but don’t overdo it.

Avoid Harsh ingredients:

Staying clear of harmful ingredients such as sulphates, parabens and fragrances can help to maintain the balance of your skin’s microbiome.

Diet & Gut Health:

Your gut is directly linked to your skin so eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetable and whole foods leave a positive impact on your skin’s microbiome.

Skin Minimalism:

Be mindful of the ingredients that you are putting on your face. The more products you use, the higher the chances of you disrupting your microbes. Using a less is more approach to your skincare can help to prevent your skin barrier from becoming compromised.

SPF:

Always protect your skin from UV rays all year round by applying SPF every day.

Former Love Island stars have been speaking out in defence of this summer’s winners.

Last night, presenter Maya Jama declared Sammy Root and Jess Harding as the winners of the ITV show’s tenth series.

Many fans subsequently took to social media to express their shock at the results, with many declaring it a ‘fix’ and demanding a ‘recount’.

Several Love Island alumni have now chosen to defend the winning couple, and have expressed their thoughts on the final episode.

2018 runner-up Laura Anderson took to her Instagram stories earlier today to speak out.

“I was just looking at all the Love Island trolling. Every year, it’s the same! People are always like, ‘It’s a fix!’. No, you voted. It was you,” the 34-year-old insisted, before going on to share her opinion.

“All the polls I saw on people’s Instagrams and stuff, including mine, all were how it went. So, I don’t know what people are on about. Well deserved winners, well deserved finalists,” she detailed.

Credit: ITV

“I feel like all ex-Islanders are very protective of new Islanders. I think I got trolled for being second,” Laura admitted, before concluding: “Over and out. Be nice.”

Meanwhile, series two star Kady McDermott, who also competed in this summer’s season, penned a message on her Instagram stories in support of her co-stars.

“The comments I’ve seen all over socials with people arguing and not being happy who the winners of LI are is totally ridiculous,” the 27-year-old stated.

“No one deserves to read this nasty stuff when coming out of the villa, everyone in the villa are real people with feelings. No one deserved to win more than anyone else, the finalists all deserved to win equally,” she added.

Love Island producers confirmed earlier today that Sammy and Jess won the final with 34% of the vote. Runners-up Whitney and Lochan gained 26% of the public’s support, while couples Ella and Tyrique and Molly and Zach received 24% and 14%, respectively.
