When you wake up on Sunday morning with a raging hangover, you'd probably shell out half your pay cheque for a fast-track cure. But next time you're planning a big night, the hangover solution could be sitting in your kitchen.

Hangover cures come and go (with many of them rarely working), but scientists in Australia may have found the cure… pear juice.

The research found that consuming pear juice, or one whole pear, before a night on the tiles can dramatically reduce hangover symptoms, in particular memory loss (bye-bye blackouts) and trouble with concentration. People who drink pear juice before consuming alcohol also experience less sensitivity to bright light and loud sounds. 

The new study was only tested on Asian pears which are commonly used in the Far East and known as the best cure for a night out in those parts. Researchers want to widen their search though and see if the same results can be achieved with Western pears. But fear not, because most Irish supermarkets do stock Asian pears too. PHEW.

Manny Noakes, research director at CSIRO and leader of the new findings said the wonder cure was all down to a decrease in a toxic chemical thought to be behind those dire hangover symptoms. "Reductions were seen in blood acetaldehyde levels, the toxic metabolic thought to be responsible for hangover symptoms, with pear juice consumption," Mr. Noakes revealed in a statement.

"Overall hangover severity was significantly reduced in the pear group compared to having a placebo drink," he continued. However before you go running to the fruitmonger next time you wake up hungover, it's worth noting that pear juice ONLY has a chance of working if you consume it before alcohol… and be sure you drink at least 220ml in order to gain the full effect.

We just hope this one works!

After a two-year-engagement, it's reportedly over for former One Direction member Zayn Malik and his fiancée Perrie Edwards.

Although news of the split has only been confirmed to the media today, it's thought the relationship ended a couple of weeks back. It was Zayn who called things off, leaving Perrie "devastated," a source tells People magazine today.

"She's been putting on a brave face as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," the insider said. "Perrie's being supported by her bandmates, but she's really in pieces about this." 

Speaking about Zayn's reasons for the shock split, another source told Us Weekly that the singer wanted to leave the past behind him. "He just wanted to move on and start over in all ways," the insider revealed.

The couple got engaged in August 2013 and although they have always remained vague about when their wedding would take place, the fact that they reportedly purchased a house together just weeks ago makes the split all the more shocking. According to The Sun, Zayn and Perrie signed the deed on a £3m (€4.1m) mansion just outside London last month.

There's no doubt that 2015 has been a rocky year for the couple. Back in March, Zayn abandoned One Direction's world tour to fly home to Perrie, after a photo of him with his arms around another woman, a fan named Lauren Richardson, emerged online.

The picture was taken in Thailand during the Asian leg of One Direction's On The Run tour, and when another photo appeared online of Zayn holding hands with the same woman, speculation began mounting that he had been cheating on Perrie. He quit the band just days later, and while he and Perrie have presented a united front ever since it seems things just weren't to be.

The pair are both currently in Los Angeles, but according to People's source, they have yet to see one another since the split. However Perrie has definitely been showing Zayn what he's been missing with a series of bikini shots posted to her Twitter yesterday:

When a lot of people – men and women alike – hit the big 5-0, their need to keep fit and appear super sexy goes somewhat out the window.

Not 54-year-old Carol Vorderman, however: she stepped out last night looking sexier than ever as she left Scott's restaurant in London's swanky Mayfair.

Sporting her new bright blonde locks, Carol re-wore a vivid green Roland Mouret dress – the same, headline-grabbing dress she donned back in 2005 to great acclaim.

The figure-hugging dress was from Mouret's spring/summer '06 collection which took the fashion world by storm with celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Victoria Beckham wearing them to red carpet events. 

To update the look for a new decade, Carol teamed the slinky number with a chunky white belt and light khaki lace-up heels.

And we think she wore it better last night than she did ten years ago.

Carol has clearly been working out as the show-stopping frock clung to her tiny, gym-toned figure and for a woman her age (or any age!) she wasn't afraid to show off her body. But that's no surprise as recently she has been sharing snaps of her enviable physique on social media. All we can say is… fair play.

As many celebs these days would not dare to be seen in the same outfit twice, Carol is not afraid to re-use items from her wardrobe. She has stated in the past that she doesn't care what people think and once she likes something she will stick to it.  

We have to say though, if we looked that good when we hit our 50s, we won't complain!

There have been weeks of radio silence, but we've finally had not one but two confirmations of Louis Tomlinson's baby news… from the One Direction lads themselves. 

After Liam Payne addressed the rumours during a radio interview yesterday, Louis himself spoke out today about his upcoming arrival with stylist Briana Jungwirth.

The 1D lads appeared on Good Morning America just hours ago to promote their new single Drag Me Down, and the first order of business during their post-show interview was a discussion about the expectant pop star's big news.

 "Louis, from one father to another I want to congratulate you on your upcoming fatherhood. So how are you feeling?" GMA host Michael Strahan asked the 23-year-old singer. Not seeming too fazed by the question, Louis responded with a genuine "Thank you," adding, "Obviously it's a very exciting time. So, eh, I'm buzzing."

Speaking on Magic Radio yesterday, Louis' bandmate Liam said he had initially been "shocked" by the news, but that Louis was taking it all in his stride. "Well, obviously I was a bit shocked but he's taken super well to it," Liam revealed.

"He's very excited with what's going on with him at the moment and I feel that stuff like that happens sometimes. He's taking it very seriously," Liam continued. Although they are no longer in a relationship, Louis and Los Angeles-based stylist, Briana Jungwirth, 23, are on good terms ahead of their baby's arrival early next year. 

The duo began dating briefly in May, just weeks after Louis broke up with his girlfriend of four years, Eleanor Calder.

First Louis… will Briana (or Eleanor) be the next to speak out?

His actress wife has made no secret of her desire to crack Hollywood – but it seems that Mark Wright has his own career aspirations Stateside. 

The reality TV star (and sometimes TV presenter and DJ) jetted out to California on Sunday accompanied by his wife of two months, Michelle Keegan.

And in order to get into the celebrity spirit of things – the duo promptly hit A-lister eatery, Craig's.

Mark and Michelle must have felt right at home too: they were snapped by waiting paparazzi as they entered and left the well-known Beverly Hills steakhouse yesterday evening. 

It seems that the 28-year-old has a big future ahead of him also.

Top American TV manager John Ferriter, who discovered Ryan Seacrest and also represents Piers Morgan in America, is quoted by Mail Online as saying: "American television networks hav‎e been following Mark Wright's career in the UK and think he could be a big hit with American viewers and have flown him out for series of private meetings."

On the same evening, Craig's was also frequented by former Victoria's Secret Angel Karolina Kurkova; Sylvester Stallone and his wife Jennifer Flavin, as well as singer-songwriter John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen.

For the outing, Michelle, 28, wore a €95 Lipsy midi dress from her own collection. Meanwhile, Mark opted for a more understated look, donning a denim shirt, navy slacks and brown suede boots. 

Upon landing in the Golden State, Mark had tweeted that he "loved this place". And it seems that he and his wife packed relatively light: they were spotted leaving Heathrow on Saturday carrying only two moderately-sized black bags.

Speaking to OK! Online in May, former Coronation Street star Ms Keegan had said: "If the opportunity came up for me to move to America, I've never been to LA to film or anything, but who knows, maybe in the future."

Showbiz legend Cilla Black passed away unexpectedly on Saturday in Spain, and after initial "inconclusive" reports from her post-mortem, her family have confirmed her cause of death.

"It has just been confirmed by the judge and coroner in Spain the autopsy was conclusive – Cilla Black died of natural causes," a statement from her publicist read today, according to The Mirror. 

"Cilla was sunbathing on her private terrace at her villa in Estepona, got up, lost her balance and fell hitting her head, which knocked her unconscious, and she subsequently died of a stroke. She would not have suffered."

The Blind Date host's son Bobby discovered her body when he broke his way into her bedroom after she failed to get up from her usual afternoon siesta. Sources in Spain say he found her lying on her back on a sun terrace outside her bedroom, at which stage she was already dead. Marks on Cilla's right arm and elbow were reportedly consistent with a fall.

Initial post mortem results were "non-suspicious" but "inconclusive," but further tests were ordered to confirm how exactly the 72-year-old died.

Speaking to BBC News yesterday, a friend of Cilla's said she had been "willing herself to die" and wanted to be reunited with her late husband Bobby Willis, who died in 1999. "The last thing she said to me was she was going blind, she showed me her hands, she had arthritis," Cilla's childhood friend Terry McCann said of their last meeting in Spain in 2014. "She willed herself to die. She said, 'Bobby's waiting for me.'"

In a statement today, Cilla's three sons, Bobby Jr, 45,  Ben, 41, and Jack, 34, said they were hoping to bring their mother's body back to the UK as soon as they could.

"The Spanish authorities have now told us we are able to bring Mum home, which we hope to do as quickly as possible. We would also like to thank all those involved for their assistance with this matter. We respectfully request for our continued privacy to grieve," the statement read.

Some people take it to extremes and would literally try anything to loose some weight, but this latest fad is definitely a step too far. 

It has been reported that in North Korea, women are now resorting to Meth to help them shed some pounds, yep you right that right, methamphetamine. 

According to Vice News, some of the more privileged women in North Korea and has not become that wide-spread just yet, but it is worrying nonetheless. 

"The meth diet" has become popular as the drug suppresses appetite while providing an energy boost at the same time. 

The country is said to have a huge problem with meth but it seems using it for dieting purposes is limited to a select few in the country. The majority of the country have no need for an extreme diet like this as they are forced into labour and it is believed many are on the brink of starvation. 

"The average person has no time, let alone opportunity, to gain weight between mandatory work mobilizations and a shortage of food," a source told Daily NK.

"If the wives who are keen on losing weight would simply share the food that they and other elites hoard," the source said, "they wouldn't eat it all alone and get fat."

In case you missed it over the weekend, female MMA champion Ronda Rousey made headlines when she defended her title in a fight that lasted just over 30 seconds.

Her athletic prowess is something that has fascinated people around the world and with good reason, last year she ended a fight in 16 seconds, and she’s been to the Olympics as a 17-year old.

Impressive. Not one to let an opportunity pass her by, she’s also been developing other skills.

Her screen credits include Furious 7, The Expendables 3 and Entourage. Next year she’ll pair up with Mark Wahlberg for Mile 22.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the star has now been cast to play a very important role; herself.

The untitled biopic about her rise to MMA stardom is based on her autobiography My Fight/Your Fight. If that is the case, Ronda will be tasked with proving her dramatic acting skills as she has quite a life story.

She was trained by her mother, AnnMaria De Mars from a young age and became the first American to win the World Judo Championships and was the youngest competitor in the 2004 Olympic games in Athens.

Speaking with THR she said her agent insisted that she be the one to portray herself in her own story. According to Rousey he said she could become “the female Rock”.

Ronda has also been in the media lately following her epic response to body-shamers who claimed she looked ‘too masculine’.

Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West are expecting their second child this December, and so far Kim seems determined to make this pregnancy a smoother one than her last.

Kim admitted she felt "probably the lowest I have ever felt in my life" after gaining weight during her pregnancy with North, and this time around she is making every effort to ensure things go differently. 

From having a team of fitness experts on hand to getting each item of clothing tailored to ger growing bump, Kim is looking every bit the glam mama so far, but one thing she had to give into this week was sensible footwear.

Kim is known for wearing sky-high heels on a daily basis and has said before that she “hates” how her feet look in flats. However she was pictured in Los Angeles over the weekend sporting a pair of shoes that were very un-Kim indeed – beige flat sandals.

With two-year-old North and her five-year-old nephew Mason in tow, the expectant mum looked as sleek as ever in the nude Alaia pom pom flats, a sleeveless cotton  dress, a Haider Ackermann silk trench coat and her trademark black Hermés Birkin.

Speaking to Us Weekly shortly after her second pregnancy was confirmed, the KUWTK star said she was taking a different approach to eating and working out this time. "This time around I have a nutritionist to keep me healthy while I’m pregnant," she said. "The last pregnancy, I ate a donut every single day, I’m not doing that this time." 

And when it comes to maternity style, the 34-year-old said she's not afraid to make use of certain fashion tricks… like doubling up on Spanx. "Sometimes I wear two pairs [of Spanx] under something or stockings," she revealed to Elle. "It holds you in."

Permanent makeup is something that has been around for a number of years now. However, the trend of fuller lips and brows are tempting some people to go to extremes in their quest for brows that are on point.

In the past people have been sucking on bottles trying to achieve a fuller pout. Cosmopolitan beauty editors are considering this a possible upshot of a certain almost legal reality TV star’s infamous pout.

Now people are going for actual lip liner tattoos. These can last for between 8 and 10 years. Years!

Last week a Cosmopolitan Australia beauty editor had the outline of her lips tattooed to make them appear fuller in order to avoid getting fillers. The salon she visited offer a “Kiss Me Lip Tint Tattoo” treatment, but they are also apparently well known for their brow tattoo treatments.

In order to get the tattoo to complement her natural lip colour, the tattooist blended together three different shades of pink.

The editor was very pleased with her “subtle results”. Despite the minor scabbing that occurs whenever someone gets a fresh tattoo.

Not only does the treatment last for almost a decade, but the cost is nothing to laugh at either. Initially the tattoo will cost over €800 with touch-ups, every 3 to 5 years, costing an additional €230.

We were having some serious 90s flashbacks at the thought of intense lip-liner adventures but some of these after photos do prove subtlety can be achieved.

However, as is the same when people consider any type of tattoo, they are being encouraged to consider all precautions because skin health is a top priority.

Wow, Humans of Dublin has got us so emotional today with it's latest post on their Facebook page. 

They posted the most inspirational story of a young man in Dublin who came across someone sitting on the ledge of a bridge in Dublin contemplating suicide. 

The young man stopped and asked him was he ok and proceeded to talk to him until he agreed to come down from the ledge and ring an ambulance. 

But the happy ending is what really gets us, so much came from one person stopping to say "Are you okay?", but we won't spoil it for you! Have a read:

"I was just on my way to the American sweet shop to buy some Gatorade, when I saw this guy in his 30s sitting on the ledge of the bridge. I just thought, "wow…" I stopped and asked him if he was okay, but I knew from the look in his eyes he wasn't, and he didn't say anything either, but I saw tears coming from his eyes."

"I pleaded with him for a while to come down and sit on the steps, and eventually he did. We sat on the sidewalk on the south side of the Liffey and talked for about 45 minutes, about what was happening to him, why was he feeling that way… I couldn't leave him there alone, but I had to go, so I was going to ring an ambulance."

I told him they could help him feel better. But he was like "please, please don't call them, I'm fine, I just want to walk around for a while, I'm gonna be okay!" I told him to please let me ring an ambulance, that I wouldn't sleep knowing he was just walking around alone. So I rang it, and he was taken to St. James Hospital."

"I got his number so I would know what was going on with him for a good while… And about three months ago, he texted me that his wife is pregnant, they're having a boy, and they're naming him after me. Can you believe that? They're going to name their child after me…"

"He said in that moment that I approached him, he was just about to jump, and those few words saved his life. That they're still ringing in his head every day. "Are you okay?" I can't really understand how these few words could save his life, but he told me, "Imagine if nobody ever asked you those words…" "

This story has already been shared over two thousand times, and rightly so, it has completely restored our faith in humanity.

When Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale confirmed last night that they were divorcing after almost 13 years of marriage they said it was a "mutual decision," but now it seems things were not quite as straightforward as the pair have made out.

A new report today claims the long-term couple, who have three children together, split because Gwen suspected Gavin had cheated on her. The break-up was a "long time coming," a source told TMZ.

But Gavin's possible infidelity is not the only reason for the rockers' shock split. It's thought Gwen hated that her husband was away from home so much, especially earlier this year when he left to tour with his band Bush for over three months.

No Doubt frontwoman Gwen "put pressure" on Gavin to stay at home more, according to TMZ's source, something he resented considering she had often had long spells away with her own work commitments.

Gwen cited "irreconcilable differences" in her divorce filing, and asked for joint custody of the pair's three children, nine-year-old Kingston, seven-year-old Zuma, and one-year-old Apollo. As the pair did not sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married, they are each entitled to half of their communal property, which means that Gwen's estimated $80m (€73m) and Gavin's estimated $35m (€32m) will most likely all be split down the middle. 

The music industry couple began dating back in 1995 when No Doubt supported Bush on tour. They married seven years later in London's Covent Garden, and would have celebrated their 13th anniversary next month. 

Gwen and Gavin's marriage has not been without its ups and downs, however, Their marriage his a rocky spot in 2004 when it was revealed that Gavin had a fourteen-year-old daughter, Daisy, from his relationship with UK designer Pearl Lowe, who he dated before meeting Gwen.

DNA tests confirmed Pearl's suspicions that Gavin was indeed the father of Daisy, now a 26-year-old model.

Earlier this year Gwen got emotional on the TODAY Show as she discussed her marriage and spoke how "proud" she was of it. "If I look back on the whole thing the one thing that's been constant is that we both want the same thing," she explained.

"We both want to be married. We both want to be good parents, and so I feel really proud of what we've done together."
